Star Wars GOUT in HD using super resolution algorithm (* unfinished project *)

To me it looks like it has some standard up-scaling artifacts the way you do it. The superres one looks softer but cleaner, and generally more appealing.

Indeed, I used one of the most simple upscaling filter, but have you noted the problems on the superresolution version? OK, I must admit they are very tiny - infact you have to zoom in a lot to see them - but they are there... look in particular the eyes...

I expected much more quality, according to comparison examples...

Don't know if this is due to compression artifacts (even if I don't think so, because 20Mbps should be enough to avoid them), but it seems that the superresolution algorhythm you are using is not that effective... a simple avisynth bicubic upscale, using the compressed MKV SD video you provided, sharpened a bit, seems very similar...

what do you think?

Info & Help Wanted: on adding 35mm Film Grain...
Time

First: thanks to AntcuFaalb for the idea of using the grainplate; kudos!

I used a grainplate on The Arrival, and final result is good, in particular because there were almost no grain in the BD I used as source...

I added a grainplate also for the replacing shots of AVP:R taken from the DVD, to be similar to the BD.

Visit fanres.com and sign up; there are very interesting topics there, and I don't exclude to write an article about grainplate sooner or later!

Ghostbusters - Criterion PCM Track (see Jonno's post; plus lots more info) (Released)

Let's say that BD 4K has the "right" color grading, but it has also contrast problems, while the BD pre-4K has the right contrast, but not the color grading... well, as the contrast problems could not be completely solved, we could just regrade the BD pre-4K using the BD 4K as color reference...
