There is a thread in this forum where you can ask for an invite.
Or, simply, wait about a week after the release, and you’ll be able to find it “in the wild” - not difficult to find out where, google is your friend… 😉

will AvP (alien vs predator) come too?
It will… first I thought to release the open matte version, but I came to the conclusion that’s almost impossible to get a perfect image from the two HDTV versions - get rid of the logos, reintegrate missing frames etc.
But I’m working onto the regrade of the BD, using the HDTV - color gradings are quite different.

I can chime in, as I have (almost?) all the HDTV recordings available…
- Cinemax (Theatrical cut) AFAIK it’s the only TC version available; there is also a German mux around here, but video seems untouched
1080i MPEG-2 29.97fps 12.8mbps - the best version around, period! Color grading is cold, tealized
- France (Extended Edition)
1080i AVC 25fps 7mbps - UK (Extended Edition) presumably Sky
1080i AVC 25fps 5.8mpbs - RTS UN HD (Extended Edition) with commercial breaks
720p AVC 50fps 10.2mbps
image is soft, cropped on right or both sides; color grading neutral - seems to stay between Cinemax and DVD
- AXN HD (Extended Edition open matte)
1080p AVC 23.976fps 8.3mbps - Unknown (Extended Edition open matte)
1080i AVC 25fps 7.7mbps
image is soft, not cropped on the sides (apart obviously missing some details due to the fact it’s open matte); color grading as DVD, plus magenta blanket
- Japanese
I have lost it! 😦
image was not bad AFAIR, but with annoying hardsubs in the image; color grading warm and unique to this version (like, for example, T2 onto squeezed LD first edition); it possibly be a transfer without color timing
Notes:
- ALL DVDs (PAL and NTSC) have the same color grading
- Dealer tape contains about 70minutes of the movie (have still to check it, but probably it’s the first part without trims [EDIT: CONFIRMED!] ); color grading is different from any other - in some shots is similar to one version, while in the shot after is similar to another…
- Laserdisc is also available at 1.90:1; again, color grading seems different from other version, but it still has the magenta blanket (still to check if 2.35:1 is different)
Comparisons, from top to bottom: Japanese, DVD, AXN, UK, Cinemax

will AvP (alien vs predator) come too?
Possibly, open matte with a different color grading from BD.
and is there a plan for doing more all scenes in, extended, extra long movies
I seriously thought about this, and I must admit I like the idea very much… still haven’t decided to follow this path, though!

Seeing how the BD & CINEMA tracks are ± identical
this is not always true, in particular referred to older movies
and keeping in mind cinema DTS is presumably worse than consumer DTS
they are different codecs, but it’s not necessarily true
which is about half the quality as AC3 at the same bitrate
DTS Cinema quality is really good; yep, I could also agree that it could have half the quality of AC-3 at the same bitrate, but I’m not aware of any 1mbps+ AC-3 track…
it is incredibly daft to listen to the cinema track when BD AC3 is available because you’re listening to much reduced quality for no benefit.
This is not true, unless the AC-3 track is 640kbps AND it uses the same mix; in that case, quality could be comparable; if AC-3 is 448kbps, Cinema DTS is better.
Thanks Jetrell for this DTS thread - and all the others here, and there, you know… 😉

Nope, V2 has a 50/50 mix of LD/BD colors and, according to an expert, it’s the closest to theatrical presentation up to date.

About 70mm cells: I don’t know where to find them… hope someone else would chime in and help in this task!
Trailer: even if I’m aware that colors are (almost always) not the “right” ones, I prefer it, color wise.
Latest regrade: it’s nice, I like it, but too dark… try to use the BD luma “as is” - I often use this “trick”, as many BDs use the original negative as master, so colors could also be messed up - due to the technical problem to render color timing using digital manipulation, and/or deliberately revisionism… but it is supposed that contrast should be right - more or less…

ABOUT
The Fundamental Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, has been dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality, avoiding revisionism that plagues many of the latest releases.
Our commitment is to publish the defining moments of cinema for a wider audience, tired of watching their preferred movies with revisioned colors, wrong aspect ratios, excessively degrained, or listening to modified audio mixes.
Each film is presented uncut, in its original aspect ratio, as its maker intended it to be seen, and eventually we include also an open matte version, when this improves the overall entertainment. Every time we work on a film, we track down the best available video and audio sources in the world, use state-of-the-art hardware equipment and selected software capable of reproduce as closer as possible the colors of the chosen reference, and we add the best audio original mixes, in different languages, with their related subtitles.
We aim to create the most pristine image and sound, as closest as possible to the theatrical projection, so to recreate the original, fundamental experience felt when the movie was originally released in the theaters.
FORMAT
Final format chosen for our releases is Blu-ray; video is encoded in 1080p, using the best AVC encoder and settings, at an appropriate bit rate to maintain a great quality and grain structure; audio is encoded in DTS-HD MA, when available, or in DTS, PCM and Dolby Digital; up to five languages are included, when available. NO DVD or other lower quality format are used for our feature film releases.
Video sources used are the best high definition versions, but in selected occasion we could be forced to use standard definition for particular shots/scenes not available in better quality; we use the best upscale techniques to improve the image quality and let these insertions as seamless as possible.
Color references used are usually the older master which, in many cases, retain the original colors found on the released prints: nowadays the original negative is used to produce a master and, albeit the quality is obviously superior, digital regrade often can’t reproduce the original color timing found on the release print. That’s our job to use the best high resolution source, and regrade it with the best color references.
Audio lossless tracks are used when they reflect the original mix; if not, we try to use the best available, high quality audio tracks with original mix, from the Cinema DTS tracks to laserdisc DTS, AC3 and PCM ones.
MISSION
Our mission: to fix the films which need to be saved from modern revisionism.
In particular, what we do is:
- use a color reference to regrade the film so it could be closer to the theatrical presentation
- add an open matte version as a companion to the OAR version
- reinstate eventual cut shots/scenes
- add a film grain plate when the grain is absent or weak
- clean the image only when needed
- adjust the aspect ratio when wrong
- select the best audio mixes, using the original ones when available
- include five different languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish) when available
and, what we DO NOT is:
- regrade a film without a color reference
- add an open matte version when it is heavily cropped, or contains unwanted objects like boom mics and the like
- use the original shot when director wisely chose to replace it with fixed one, like security ropes deleted, matte garbage removed etc.
- add always a grain plate even when the grain is right
- clean always the image even when it is right
- use the best quality audio mix when it is not the original one, and the latter is available
So, our releases, albeit our best efforts to find and use the best possible audio and video sources, could be not perfect sometimes; still, the spirit of the theatrical experience, which is fundamental, is always there!
FAQ
Which movies will be released in the Fundamental Collection?
The movie genres that will be included are mainly sci-fi, action, horror, fantasy; we can’t exclude other ones, though. Mainstream flicks will be the first ones to be released, but maybe other less known films will follow.
What is the reason of a movie choice?
As written before, our mission is to “fix” somehow movies released before with something “wrong” - color grading, aspect ratio, missing shots, audio mixes etc.
Which languages will be included in each release?
We aim to include five main languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish - with suitable subtitles - whenever these tracks are available; that’s because we want to please a vast public all around the globe!
Do you have a release schedule?
Not yet; we plan to start with a new title each month, and eventually reach twenty releases per year in the next future.
Will bonus material be included? What’s about menus?
We have decided to include only the main feature, and to go “straight to the point”: no fancy menus = no loading time… just put the disc in your player and press play!

Timeline (2003) Fundamental Collection [#010] [BD-25]
The movie was released only in Italy, Japan and Spain on Blu-ray, and there are no plans about future releases in other countries. It was filmed in Super 35mm, and in this edition you have the opportunity to watch it in full open matte; at the contrary of the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 as intended by the director to be seen in the theaters, here you get a 1.78:1 frame, with no image loss at both sides, and with more details on top and bottom, leaving no black borders when viewed on any 16:9 display.
Original source was the 2K scan of the original negative; colors and contrast were slightly tweaked, and a real 35mm grain plate was added at the end, to improve the video quality; this is, so far, the best HD open matte version of Timeline available!
As usual, multiple languages tracks are present – DTS for English, and DD for French, German, Italian and Spanish audio, full subtitles for all the languages, plus forced ones for German, Italian and Spanish, specially made for this edition.
1080p High-Definition fullscreen 1.78:1 open matte, 23.976fps, AVC encoded - 116min
DTS 5.1: ENG - DD 5.1: FRE, GER, ITA, SPA
FULL: ENG, FRE, GER, ITA, SPA - FORCED: GER, ITA, SPA
Full open matte 2K master from Super 35mm original negative

Too many projects to complete, so I’ve decided to do only movie-related ones, and left the unfinished extras out… but I’m sad, because they have some interesting material not found anywhere else.
So, if there is someone with technical abilities to release a proper DVD with custom menus, AND willing to finish one or more of them, please let me know.
The ones that I’d like to see finished are (from the most important):
The Arrival
Cube 2: Hypercube
Supernova
Usavich
The Thing
I have also few material related to my other projects that could be used as well.
