Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 - (HD)TV recording - do you have it?
Time

I’m working on the open matte version of the complete Harry Potter saga, and I have all the episodes now in HD; first five with no TV logo, sixth and eight with TV logo (but a second source to remove it).

But for HP 7 I have only a 720p version (with logo); now, to remove it, I need another full screen 1.78:1 recording - possibly with the logo not placed in the same position of the version I have, Nova HD, top left, as the following: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/209732

As I was informed by few members that in US and Canada Harry Potter saga is broadcasted quite frequently, and almost always open matte, I’d like to know if some of you have a recording of this film - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 - (1080i/p would be perfect) and can share it, or if can record it next time it will be broadcasted - possibly within few days/weeks, I know I’m asking too much… 😄

If some of you think their recording is pan&scan and isn’t suitable for the project, well, it’s true; great part of the movie is pan&scan, cropped at one or both sides (but with a bit more lines of resolution top and bottom), while few shots are open matte, including the whole “three brothers” animation: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/undefined/id/55238 - so, even if good part is “just” pan&scan, animation alone worth the whole movie, and indeed it is needed as a companion to get a complete Harry Potter saga in open matte, ehr, 1.78:1 full screen!

Thanks in advance to anyone who could help!

"Three Brothers" Harry Potter animation open matte restoration (Released)
Time

Yep, I’m aware that the logo is still noticeable in many instances; as I wrote, another 1.78:1 version would greatly help - until the logo isn’t placed in the same top left corner…

Of course, a 1080p would be ideal, but if it would not pop up, a “simple” SD version will be better than nothing!

I did my homework, as usual, and I searched all around the world, literally (yes, from my couch, of course 😉 ) and I haven’t found one - yet… I’m a bit sad, because this would be the only one title in the saga that risks to get not a proper restoration/reconstruction…

Alien Vs Predator - regrade (Released)
Time

Started this as open matte project, discovering that it’s hard - if even possible - to align the two available sources to get rid of the logo… meanwhile, I discovered that the BD has a different color grading than the HDTV, so, what the heck, I was there, just regrade the BD! 😄

Top BD, bottom BD regraded using HDTV as color reference:

Someone who got the German or French BD of the theatrical cut please send me a PM, thanks!

"Three Brothers" Harry Potter animation open matte restoration (Released)
Time

I worked a lot on the “Three Brothers” animation, to get rid of the logo; this is my best attemp - far from perfect - with an alternative dub found on youtube, by Chazz Rauenelle
https://mega.nz/#!JqBWDYDS!ZJtyE9VghZH4d65eT0kzMlDplLDJSAKsfW4Esgf-6CE

Three alternatives: leave it “as is” (I’d like TO not choose it), find a second open matte source (the best and fast way), or find a crazy person who would like to take the honor and responsability of fix it, frame by frame, using also few images and a bad quality 4:3 version (the only way to get the perfect delogo version without a second source).

[spoRv] projects - past and future
Time

[spoRv] as a project label is no more… it remains as my nickname, but new (and old but revised) projects will be released under a new label, “Fundamental Collection”; here you are the link to the thread where I’ll post some updates:
http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Fundamental-Collection/id/54989

EDIT: forgot to mention: few years ago a user printed some of my projects covers and disc labels, but I can’t remember his name, nor find his post… if that user is reading here, or someone is aware of his post, please let me know, thanks!

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows part 2 open matte broadcast (Released)
Time

Basically there are just few brief shots - maybe five or six through the whole movie - apart the animation, which is all open matte; they are the same seen in Vouka’s screenshots:

At least it’s interesting to see that color grading is different - it’s the only difference I spotted so far, apart ep.8 BD/Novy Kanal.

I searched on youtube for that animation clip, and I’ve found a couple of clips, really bad quality, that were indeed full screen 1.33:1; I wonder where they are from, as the source could be used to phase out the logo completely…

Yep, I finished to analyze roughly ep.7, and indeed there are (very few) shots which adds more image on top and bottom.

That version would be of great help, to remove the logo; I have obtained good results, but still not perfect, and, with that version, most probably, I’ll find the way to phase out completely what remains of the logo.

Star Wars saga - Extra Extended Edition (1080p) (* unfinished project / WIP *)
Time

ETA is postponed, as I forced myself to finish first my previous projects… but I can say that, with the new PC, and a bit more experience, I can finish project really fast… Now that I have finished A LOT - I mean it, 11 in, what, two months? - and with few remained to be completed, I can’t say an ETA… weeks? possibly… few months? probably… years? definitely not! 😄

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows part 2 open matte broadcast (Released)
Time

Back on topic - Harry Potter and open matte…

1 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) - Open Matte HDTV, available
2 - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) - Open Matte HDTV, available
3 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) - Pan&Scan HDTV, available
4 - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) - Open Matte HDTV, available
5 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) - Open Matte WEBdl, available
6 - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) - unsure, probably exists as other previous parts were broadcasted
7 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010) - almost entirely cropped (NOVA HD) available
8 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011) - Open Matte/Cropped HDTV (HBO US/Новий Канал UA/NOVA HD) available

(EDIT: comparison BD/HDTV for ep. 3: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/209721)

So far, 1,2,4,5,6 are actually open matte, 3 is pan&scan (with a tiny bit more lines top and bottom), 8 are partly open matte and partly cropped; 7 seems to have only the animation open matte, the rest is cropped; 6 seems to be impossible to find, even if it’s hard to believe that it’s the only one without a complete (or partial) open matte version…

Feedback Wanted: 'The Matrix' - 1 pass Blu-ray regrade. Based upon earlier 35mm release.
Time

The work you did seems good, capturing the “spirit” of that 35mm scan; I’d like to see a screenshot comparison at 1920x1080, to see better the result.

But, as others said, it seems that this scan lacks all the green that supposedly should be there… even if I like neutral, natural colors, there are certain movies where it should be avoided at all cost, and The Matrix is one of them, IMHO.
