I know you've still got them!!!!
Time

Nope i don't since they were stolen when i moved to where i currently live when i was around 10 years old.

Stolen along with all my masters of the universe, GI Joe, Transformers g1 stuff.

Not that i care they would be yellowing pieces of junk collecting dust and space.

I don't collect children's figures either, or go to conventions dressed up as a stormtrooper either.

If i did if would be suggested to go see a therapist because at 32 years of age it would be absolutely ridiculous.

It does help to point out i don't have any children.  A lot of adults have toys in their house for their kids to play with, and get enjoyment and nostalgia out of seeing them do so.

The only thing i really want at this point is restored theatrical oot star wars trilogy on dvd, you know the real thing, the films. But Lucas won't let me have that.  He took all the fun out of being a fan.  Once star wars was destroyed i stopped collecting stuff.  The real star wars died sometime in the late 90's.

Petition for the Theatrical Cuts of the Original Star Wars Trilogy on Blu-ray
Time

Fang Zei said:

The next release of the SE needs a Final Cut treatment anyway. There are still some unfixed effects errors in the '04 version like the transparency issues brought up in the People vs. GL thread. The most glaring effects error of all is the second time the Death Star II blows up a ship and all of the ships in the background roll with the camera.

Oh, and the deleted scenes are gonna be on the blu-ray no question. They were conspicuously absent on the '04 release and we now know that people at LFL are going through the material. So deleted scenes are a given. I still don't think that's gonna be enough for LFL to get the numbers they're looking for without throwing in a remastered OOT.

You know what would be like rubbing salt into an open wound.  If the oot is not included but the deleted scenes are in better quality than the gout and in anamorphic.  I bet George would totally do that.  Even worse if they complete the deleted scenes with cgi.

The ting with red leader talking about Luke's jedi father who was not darth vader at the time, won't make it uncut.  It would prove that Lucas did not have vader as the father from the very beginning. It would dispell the great mythology of lies built up around darth vader in order to support the changes made in the prequels and special editions.

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)
Time

It would help to destinguish which 70mm mix you mean because according to imdb there was a 70mm 6 track dts of the special edition.  Probably only seen in like 2 theaters though, lol.

I do know it was shown i believe at the Royal Premiere in London England.

And at the US premiere.  It was not at Grauman's Chinese.

Can't remember the name of the theater its the place they had the premiere for return of the jedi in 1983.

Info Wanted: 70mm OT digital restoration? Are there any?
Time

Probably not as most of the reels were destroyed after being sent back from the cinemas, unless some are in private collections.  I have seen reels for empire and jedi being sold on Ebay but since owning them is illegal i never put myself in harms way by bidding on them.

Plus they were faded to almost no color left and pink.  And who knows what condition the mag tracks would be in since they apt to warp over time and even desintegrate.

The 70mm masters themselves if they are in the Lucasfilm Vault would most likely need to be restored if the collectible cels from willets designs are any indication.  Star Wars and Empire were pre LPP Eastman Kodak.  Almost all prints are useless as a source.

I wonder if they made a 70mm printing master of the special edition before adding all the cgi, even if they did it would have had the final changes and audio mixes.

Lord of the Rings Theatrical Blu Ray Trilogy ruined By DVNR.

It's a sad day when the HDTV broadcast is better quality than the retail Blu-Ray

Blu-Ray

HDTV

Just looks how much more detail can be seen in the HDTV version while you can clearly see the DNR on the Blu-Ray version.

Supposedly the blu ray uses the same HD master as the HDTV broadcasts, except some moron turned the dnr dial up to 11.

All based on hearsay of course, no official word from the studio.  Though they had bluray site remove the screenshots, some say it was damage control.

So they did not bother to go back to the original master whether it be a DI, or the original negative.  Someone on AVS forum said the master for the films was only done in 1k, if that is the case.  Then unless they go back to the original film and redo the effects in 4k or higher you are stuck with crap.

I hope that is not true because it would mean Lord of the Rings was rendered around the same res as phantom menace, but not close to the res of star wars special edition which was done in 2k.

Would not be the first time going digital has bit a studio in the ass when it came to release the film on blu ray.

Info: 70mm reel 2 of empire strikes back up on ebay, not my auction and sadly the film is pinkish
Time

Another 70mm reel of empire has surfaced, are they all faded this badly.  This one looks worse than the last one. It is reel number 4 and if i remember correctly it is the same seller.  If he has the whole print he is selling is piecemeal pretending he is selling filmcels, still wonder why ebay lets this go.

"The People Vs. George Lucas" documentary...
Time

SilverWook said:

If that is the case, what was the big deal on the 1997 "restoration" with claims the films would be faded past the point of no return if they had not acted in time?

Because they chose to go back to the original camera negative, with no generation lost.  Also using this source they needed to redo the opticals and had to find all those lucas had saved and recomp them.

"The People Vs. George Lucas" documentary...
Time

Hopefully it is not a suck up to Lucas project to get a foot in the industry, because there is a real issue at stake the preservation of the real star wars trilogy.  I don't give a damn about fan edits or their merits or demerits, it takes focus off what is really important.

I mean Wizard of Oz can be restored but not star wars.

Lucas will never get another dollar of my money unless he restores the real movies that made the legend.

Star Wars animated series aimed for pre-schoolers a-comin' (you heard me right!)
Time

The thing is i bet Lucas wrote it into his will that no more films can ever be made.  But that his kids can profit off of new star wars merchandising long after he is gone.

His kids will whore out the franchise even further than dear old dad.  As if there is not a single aspect of star wars left that has not been destroyed, ruined, sullied or forgotten.

Star Wars became the Lucas merchandising empire, when it started out as a pretty good high budget B grade film fantasy. The story existed first, not the merchandising, which is the opposite of the prequels.

I signed the petition.

I want the original Dolby stereo road show 70mm six-track magnetic originally restored to pristine condition and preserved on Bluray and DVD as it was exhibited to the lucky few that heard the true discrete version of the film back in 1977, 1980 and 1983.

I want that vintage Dolby taste in my hands.

Oh, and Fox please use DolbyTrue its just as good and keeps in the tradition of the Star Wars sound mix as these films were mixed in Dolby not dts.

You would be correct with the exception that the special edition was released in 6 track dts and 70mm.

Which somehow was left off the laserdiscs of the 1997 version. they did not put out a seperate DTS discs.

I've actually been looking at getting one of the droids.  The only downside I can think of is having everyone I know ask me if I only got it because I am a Star Wars fan.

I would have thought the first thing is that Lucas would earn money off the droid trademark, i would be hesistant to buy one because he won't release the oot in a decent release and i don't want him getting any money.

Celebrating 30 years of Empire

If you are in Paris france in April you could see Empire at "Le grand Rex" theater. However I don't know if it will be shown in french or original audio with subtitles.

Mark Hamill is announced to be there among some others:

Since it will probably be the special edition, french fans will be less than pleased.  Especially the ones who boycotted the gout.

Luke VS the Emperor- What if Vader hadn't been there?

veritas said:

I have to disagree on that one.  The Rebel fleet on started to win after Palpatine was killed.  Palpatine was probably holding the Imperial fleet together with some kind of battle meditation.  Once that was gone the Rebel fleet was able to gain the upper hand.

Yup another thing Lucas borrowed from Lord of the Rings.

THX 1138 bad directors cut only to be available on Blu ray.

Just stop paying attention to what you dislike !... Enjoy what you do.

I love THX, and it is only available on VHS and Laserdisc, or if you are lucky you can sometimes find a badly worn 16mm print on the market.

No DVD at all.  Even the star wars trilogy got a laserdisc port, but no THX 1138, not that i would settle for a 4:3 letterbox junk release.
