a few years ago, i probalbly would have said a new hope.
Now that i'm older, i'd have to say empire because of it's darkness and subtle nuances, and is more adult.
I know that everybody will probalbly think it's blasphemy, but now that i'm older and more jaded i like empire and revenge of the sith the best. kids will always love the adventure, and the positive values of the original films including episode 1. in fact among most children today phantom menace is their favorite film.
My nephew when i showed him the first five films, wanted to watch attack of the clones and the phantom menace over and over, the original films not so much.
if you look at both trilogies, without whining about how much the prequels suck, you can see the common threads between the films. Luke and Anakin are the same archtypal character they just chose different paths, but they have the same weaknesses common to all men the darkness within, and their yearning and spirit of adventure is the same. if you read the novelizations for all six films , cotinuity errors aside it makes more sense than the films, especially if your familiar with the radio dramas and have read the hero with a thousand faces by joseph campbell.

the metal cards with pre-production art, do not know what company put them out.
His website sells an exclusive dvd, and has most of his stuff up.
Of course their are the three original art of star wars books,
plus the three sketchbooks, and the 3 portfolios put out by dell rey which are now collector's items.
There are also three slideshows of his preproduction artwork on the definitive edition laserdisc from 1993.
there is some material on the bonus disk from the new official dvd release, like the trailer for empire which uses only mcquarrie artwork with narration. Plus his art for the unreleased poster for the star wars, it is in a book i have called from star wars to indiana jones. His art for the 1976 pre release paperback for star wars, and for splinter of the mind's eye. and there also are illustrated editions of the novelizations of empire and jedi, with sketches and the empire strikes back notebook.
the art of star wars universe co-written by kevin j. anderson has some other stuff. one sketch is in star wars the magic of myth by mary henderson. their is also the new cinema of george lucas book, quite expensive, and the star wars chronicles also quite expensive. a wealth of materials exists in the lucasfilm archives, that has never been seen or released and probalbly never will. Just like we will never get to see the rough cut of a new hope, or read all the screenplays/ story treatments that are all locked away by lucas. this is including the so called non existing original cuts of the films, and the treatments for episodes 7-9 which has been verified to exist but he insists that they don't, oh yeah and those so called original treatments for episodes 1-3 which are buried because he never had them, yeah right.

Harrison Ford is in the original Trilogy, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher Nuff said.
Luke was more indentifiable with, just like mark hamill instead of HaYDEN As Anakin.
Harrison Ford just exemplified coolness!
Carrie Fisher was hot, remember back then? ( although natalie portman is'nt bad either)
Their is a reason why the original versions of the original trilogy are called the immortal trilogy or the holy trilogy, and compared to mythology, epic fable, and folktale, and compared to tolkien's lord of the rings. Lucas has already admitted tolkien's influence on star wars and willow.

Was this the episode that guest stared george Lucas, if so then it's funny you thought it was better than his movie, seeing that it was a lucas centric episode and that the stars and creators of the o.c. are huge star wars fans just like the creators of buffy the vampire slayer, t.v. show.

The one change I actually liked is from the 2004 edition of a new hope, a much more faithful rendering of Jabba.

I hate the new sound mix, and the 1997 sound mix the best is from the pcm on the definitive collection
laserdiscs.

Plus the color correction in the 2004 edition is a little too bright and funky looking.

I like the original color scheme developed by cinematographer Gil Taylor which used prints from deluxe and technicolor.
I did not like the jedi rocks scene, used in replace of lapti nek, or the new ending for jedi without the yub yub ewoks tune.

I especially loath the changes to the end of jedi 2004 version with Haden, instead of sir sabatian shaw, and jar jar saying wesa free.

I don't like how lucas changed the storyline for the original trilogy, in empire by having it hinted that vader knew all along about luke
and was hiding him from the emperor, until he was a grown man. This obviously means vader went to get Luke from the lars, and
when he found out he had gone off with kenobi he had uncle owen and aunt beru fried by the stormtroopers.

I read the making of revenge of the sith and he even half jokingly, considered putting Padme in the ghost scene at the end of
return of the jedi.
