What are your favorites? List 'em 1-6
Time

There are only 3 star wars films.

Star Wars 1977

The Empire Strikes Back 1980

Return of the Jedi 1983.

I like them about equally since they tell one story, though i do know empire is the best made of all three.

The most fun, probably a tie between star wars and jedi.

I like to think there is only 1 star wars trilogy, and 1 indiana jones trilogy.  everything that came after is self parody and a lame joke pulled on the fans.

Actors/Characters Who Destroyed OR Helped a Franchise
Time

Hayden Skywalker/Vader.  Destroyed a cinema icon of a villian that stood for more than thirty years and raped the childhoods of millions.

The New Kirk ruined star trek and captain kirk, whats his name pine or something.

Daniel Craig, ruined james bond.

Believe it or not Harrison Ford did more to ruin Indiana Jones than Shia.

Hugh jackman was horrible in wolverine origins, another part of my childhood ruined.

The next Nolan-led Batman film - my thoughts.
Time

Only thing i am truly glad about is Nolan had enough power to veto 3-D video and will be shooting this on 35mm motion picture film as well as the imax camera in 70mm.

He was also rumored to direct the next superman flick, but supposedly will now only produce it.

He was also rumored to helm the justice league movie, but he has also passed on that.

I am glad he finally came forward with a script and a direction, otherwise these stupid suits probably would have hired another director to get the film out in time.

I want to see the Joker return with some other classic villains restyled.  Maybe the Penguin and the Riddler.  But after how horrible they were handled in those other batman films, i would not be surprised if the director chooses someone else.  Just like no robin and no catwoman.

Info Wanted: Avengers (1998) - original cut & final version - a workprint...
Time

The original tv series partially inspired the Bond film series, the remake film was garbage.

One of the most crap and phoned in performances by Sean Connery.  Fiennes and Thurman both looked bored as hell.

None of the sexiness, gadgets or fisticuffs of the original series.

Bad script check, bad direction check.  Uma almost as bad here as in Batman and Robin.

Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971

Glad to see Live and Let Die has finally been given proper treatment, but Thunderball just seems to get worse over the years. I remember first popping in the UE and expecting it to blow away my letterbox VHS. Yes it was pristine, but the colors were way off and muted not to mention the soundtrack had the different cues. YOLT has almost all of the color stripped out when compared to previous versions. At first I just thought I was used to a dirty video master or something, but then I saw the UE of LALD and the awful tinted opening on OHMSS-these have led me to question things.

Did this project ever get anywhere? I see it was canceled for being too close to an official release, but this would actually be a preservation of a LD restoration from 1995 and not the SE DVD or Lowry UE and Blu ray. They are entirely different transfers/masterings. Or is the original SE disc of Thunderball sourced from the LD master? I don't own it so I can't compare. It doesn't have the original mono though.

There were different laserdisc masters for thunderball.  The deluxe set i have has less picture information on the sides than the non restored original letterbox release or Connery Collection disc.

Most of the SE lasers were cancelled.  Not many received the THX standard, or ac3 on laserdisc.

Though i do believe the anamorphic dvd of the SE is from the same print as the SE laserdisc.

The old Laserdiscs and SE dvd's had the proper color timing. Only a lot of wear and tear, scratches and dirty opticals.  I still think lowry removed far too much grain, the new ones UE look like updated for a modern look colorwise, and look like video not film.

If i was a director the last place i would bring my film to be restored is Lowry.  How many films have they reduced to looking like video and pristine.

When did you realize the Prequels sucked?
Time

The Zahn trilogy was sucessful in the 90's because it was the further adventures of Luke, Han and Leia and the Rebels, or now New Republic.

Nobody cares about Hayden Skywalker/Vader, or any of those prequel cardboard cutouts supplemented by videogame graphics.

Now that i have seen how bad the prequels are and how he ruined the originals i am almost glad their is no episode 7, episode 7 would be as bad as crystal Numbskull, only worse because it would have been directed by Lucas not Spielberg.

The Jedi: Do the ends justify the means?
Time

Obi Wan warns Luke i think it is either in the novelization for star wars or the radio drama, that misuse of the force can lead to the dark side.

I think the problem is the more you use the force to cheat the more addictive it gets.  But asking a jedi not to use the force would be like asking one of us to cease breathing.

I think the whole Jedi Credo is to teach proper use of the force and restraint. Whereas the sith would say the strongest rules and that justifies the ends.

J. Williams &amp; LSO, The EMPIRE STRIKES BACK <em>AUDIOPHILE EDITION</em> - Restored &amp; Remastered Score (Released)
Time

Hi Abc i tried to send you a private message but i am getting blocked because i am not on your friends list, lol.

I see you sent me a message.  I was going to ask what exactly AE is,lol.

DOH audiophile edition, lol.

Your newest go on fixing Empire Strikes Back, right?

I was already satisfied with star wars and empire.  Still i appreciate this anyway.

You already did your best with return of the jedi, sadly their is not much that can be recovered from available recordings.  The best sounding soundwise is a truncated 1 LP or 1 CD from RSO.  I have both, the CD is almost sonically identical is not as warm as the vinyl.

George Lucas Quotables - Currently : &quot;When 'Star Wars' first came out, I didn't know where it was going either. &quot;

I know unabashed Lucas-hate is the order of the day, but is it possible that he was being tongue in cheek to his peers? He's not above a little self-deprecating humor now and then.

Exactly, other things that come to mind that Lucas is messing with the fans:

-Lucas said about a year ago, "We all know that Empire Strikes Back is the worst Star Wars film!"

-And Lucas wearing a 'Han Shoots First' T-Shirt on the set of Indy IV.

I actually think Lucas is a pretty funny guy when he doesn't take SW too seriously.  He has that dry sense of humor, and many take it the wrong way because they don't know if he is joking or not.

Like when he punked us with the gout.  Nobody was laughing however.  But it was still a joke.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Remember when zombie84 reported on his site that the 2004 versions were only done in a resolution of 1080P.  Not exactly blu ray reference quality.

Not sure Lucas will get away with it, but he probably will if you use the example of warner's and lord of the rings, or gladiator, and paramount with star trek 1-6.

For most people good enough is better than nothing.

Funny thing about those releases they all included the theatrical versions, which won't happen here.

New Bond film suspended indefinitely
Time

The last time something like this happened there was a gap of several years between license to kill and goldeneye with Dalton replaced with Brosnan.

Hopefully this does not mean the next bond will have a different actor but it is entirely possible if it takes a few years.

Still i cannot believe with all the crazy money The last 2 films made combined they cannot afford to bankroll the next one.  that and that the film is a billion dollar franchise commodity.

No one would buy MGM even for the rights to the Bond franchise, wow must be a really bad market in the film business at the moment.

Besides i thought the whole new bond thing was to do these as real as possible, raw and on the cheap with little or no cgi.  No more invisible cars and such nonsense.

By the way a while back i read on some site it is also holding up the hobbit films, i guess new line won't pay for the entire thing, rather warner bros, even with a billion dollar franchise.  Greed is the order of the day, just like wallstreet.  Who will bail out hollywood?

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Since it won't include the oot, Not interested.

No restored originals= no sale and a big fucking epic fail of galactic size.

Thanks again to the beard with an ego the size of the cosmos itself, thanks to Luca$h.

Pretty late for an April fool's joke, i wish it was a joke.

Another nail in the coffin for the oot, and star wars itself.

Star Wars Trilogy

1977-1983 R.I.P. killed by its own creator, truly sad.

Transformers 2 Mediocre. CGI somewhat amazing in some scenes, storyline dumb and predictable.

Iron Man completely underwhelming, and Downey's acting like a block of wood.  Storyline laughable as well as the cgi.

Star Trek 2009 would be Bayformers in space if not for Leonard Nimoy.  The only reason i bothered to watch the film once, though i have mentioned it several times.

Kevin Spacey in Superman returns actually tried acting,  Whereas Hackman just phoned in his performance.  And so did Brando.  Christopher Reeve was the star but was paid less than them, and he was the one who put in all the work.  His performance in that film is criminally under rated.

Routh tries really hard in his acting in the movie Superman Returns but as a virtually unknown with little acting experience he did a decent job.  At least he tried.  Not the same for Kate Bosworth completely unnaceptable phoned in performance for lois lane.  If they wanted to portray lois as a bitch they succeded.  Especially since she dropped supes for cylops, lol.
