Speaking of makeup your avatar makes me think that if someone would be able to take away that awful one Mark Hamill has on its face during all the RotJ movie, that would be great !

... Ooops. Wrong thread.

That nasty sneer is for Palpatine though, not a nice guy who to defy, lol.

Though i do agree the Avatar kind of is very unfriendly looking, lol.

What do you suggest Mr Rodgers, lol.

Did the advent of Blu Ray kill the Laserdisc Preservation for most films?
Time

The early stuff was not not edited on SD video, or the composite effects done that way?

That would be a very dire case indeed.  Like Star Trek the Next Generation where the raw footage exists on supposedly pristine 35mm, but the effects and final edits were conformed on video.

CBS is currently looking for a technological way to restore the current video masters for blu ray as transferring the film and doing it all from scratch are cost prohibitive they would also have to redo all the effects in HD cgi.

Chainsaw is a much more positive type than me.  People cannot usual understand sarcasm on a post, people think i am being quite serious when in fact i am using a wry grin, cannot really see it online, lol.

Friends and Family do often tell me i have a tendency to repeat or restate things, i guess it is kind of a quirk in my makeup as a person.  I will try to not annoy people too much.

Thanks for the post Bingowings.  I found it quite interesting.  And i am also a fan of doctor who, the older seasons and i quite understand the difficulty of putting the shows on blu ray that were not shot on 16mm film, or whatever they used before video.  I know some of the 80's shows look horrendous even on DVD because the quality seems to be sub 480i like they were bad vhs rips.  Better than nothing i suppose.

I meant outside of star wars of course sorry i should have been more specific.

I meant Laserdisc preservations of films in general or other types, have they gone by the wayside.  Or has the forum kind of always been Star Wars centric, which i guess it has considering all my fan discs where created by the prolific Dark Jedi.

You won't find me bashing his efforts if only i could enjoy his latest efforts.  Perhaps sometime i will get a better computer and grab them, at the moment i am broke and shit out of luck but thems the breaks as they say.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

Wow Abc.  Been a while since i played those 2 arcades or the ported versions.  Rolling Thunder was awesome as were Shinobi 1 and 2, i also liked Strider.  The music for Shinobi was composed by the same guy who did actraiser great score in the symphonic version.

Which brings up one of my fave topics game music.

Who has some fave game soundtracks whether only in game or on CD?

There are almost as many great composers as in film or more so it is hrd to keep track of them all.  Most of them of course are Japanese.  Some time passed and western game companies started hiring American composers, some who even score movies.

I remember i think back in school as a kid their was a discussion of which was better Nes Ninja Gaiden, or sega genesis shinobi was it part III or II i forget.

I like both franchises myself.

I don't do sock accounts or usually hijack peoples threads as i have respect for the other members of this forum.

Nobody comes here at all anymore usually because of being an inclusive group and the crudeness of most posters who get their jollies on attacking the character of other members, or not respecting different kinds of thought separate from the herd mentality.

The Preservation community has all but been swallowed up by fan edits.  original trilogy used to be a grand place to come and chat friendly with people and share ideas.  What happened who knows?

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

Does anyone have an opinion on what Video Games currently have the best presentation in terms of plot, story, music and sound design.  Has Blu Ray and HD made the audio of world creation more immersive.

I have seen, played few games on XBox 360 and the PS3 so i wondered what everyone's opinion was in terms of currently released games no more than older than this game gen.

Fans are unable to stop Lucas from further ruining star wars and Indiana Jones.
Time

I own the factory pressed Gout.  The quality is shit.  I guess i should be happy that is the only form the movies will exist on in the future since the negatives will be lost to time.

No i am not rich enough to build a home theater and track done 16mm prints that are not faded.

Like i said i have ceased to care anymore.  Star Wars is dead to me and Lucas will never get another dollar of my money.

After all like Mr. Lucas says it is after all just a movie.

Maybe i should get a life, right mr simpsons character fink?

Hey at least you can be a Simpson's fan Since Matt Groening has not replaced the originals with bad cgi versions

Hurry up Fink, i am totally missing an Ice cream post right about now, i will be dreadfully disappointed if you don't post one.

Please do another hijack of the thread as you have done to every other thread, i am done.  Turn it into an oh-snap or LolCats marathon. Why have any sort of discussion at all, its just a circle jerk anyway you are right and i am wrong i will begin again right where i started like a cat chasing its tail.  Screw LFL.

I am sorry i ever posted this thread.  please just let it die.

Maybe losing star wars forever and not being able to revisit my formative years was a process of growing up,  maybe i should cease to care for it since it has caused me nothing but grief.  Not in actuality but in a sense as a fan.

Maybe i should be thanking Lucas for destroying film history.

Will people actually be buying the "let them eat cake" blu ray edition, without the originals?

Roll over like a good little dog and finish up master Lucas table scraps, lol.

I guess sarcasm is all i have left because of how absurd the whole situation is.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

This video pretty much confirms Lucas has every single stitch of film for star wars, even if it was conformed to the special edition.

http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000323.html

And it is from his own website so his the negative is no longer in existence or is destroyed is not the whole truth.

They changed the nature of time travel in the new film, it is not anything like the canon definition of time travel as seen in star trek IV.  Or spock could just slingshot around the sun in a ship and go back and save Romulas before it is destroyed.  Hence no movie, or at the end of the movie the real original timeline would be restored.

It does not even follow the definition of alternate universes as in parallels because worf returns to the real prime timeline and nothing changes.

Even in Yesterdays enterprise where the Captain of the Enterprise C dies and Tasha joins the crew due to the timeline changes the timeline as history recorded it still happens.  The Ship is destroyed and the timeline unaltered as far as people know.

Considering this is the same Spock as played by Leonard Nimoy who planned the timewarp in Trek IV the fact he forgets how to do it is a huge joke.

Might as well call the new movie star trek 1 or universe B, since it is clearly outside of continuity with the other original films.

Another thing is this film cheats long time fans out of a true origins movie for the prime universe of the kirk years.  Not only that they will now no longer make Trek in the original universe so it may just as well have been erased.  Would have preferred for a total reboot and separate franchise altogether and left out Nimoy.  Would have been like having Connery in Casino Royale hand off the reigns to Daniel Craig.

JMS proposed a total reboot of the original series in 2004, some of the suggestions seem to had been picked up by Paramount, even if the story is too dissimilar for him to get any credit.  I thought his story concept was terrible but the idea of two separate franchises existing concurrently to be interesting.  Too bad for studio types that is too confusing, like those that did not want new Classic Galatica and New Galatica on the air at the same time.

Confusingly the JJ film is both Trek 1 and Trek 11, it is as they were confused as to what to make of it be it sequel, a prequel or a reboot.

I totally dug the new film really but i won't pretend it somehow matches up with the other films, be honest and alienate the true fans and make a separate franchise for non fan regulars.

Hayden Blackman Quits Lucasarts. No further details at the moment.
Time

Interesting so Force unleashed was supposed to be a trilogy like Kotor was supposed to, and like with Kotor the third game gets cancelled.

Should we blame the current head of LucasArts or does this happen to be another George Lucas move.  Who knows.

The cancellation of the HD game for Indiana Jones was a major failure in my opinion as well.  That game bit it and they put all their energies into the first force unleashed.

I hope this shakeup leads to better games but sadly the games will probably be farmed out Force Unleashed and Force Unleashed II are some of the last games developed internally at Lucasarts.  Most of the recent games being from outside developers.  Hopefully the Old Republic game is uneffected since that is Bioware.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Lawrence is different though.  That was Lean's original vision, and what he shot and intended or at least as close as they could get with surviving footage.  The studio excised that material.

As for star wars they were completely finished films. Anything taken out was done so at Lucas suggestion, or the editors take and Lucas was fine with it.  The studio never took out scenes he intended to be in the film, and he never intended for greedo to shoot or use 90's CGI back in 1977.

Just like Lucas original vision for THX and Graffiti were the original home video cuts with the restored excised footage the studio forced to be taken out.

Star Wars was never taken away from Lucas and recut.

Alan Ladd JR, allowed Lucas final cut approval.  Through the years there has been an on and off argument over whether final cut approval was in Lucas original contract, but the point still stands he delivered a finished film on May 25, 1977 not a rough cut as he has rewritten history to say.

The funny thing is Lucas also promised Kersh final cut and then took the film away from him and recut it until he came to his senses, lol.  According to once upon a galaxy.

He did the very thing the studios did that so incensed him as a creative artist and auteur.  I wonder if he has ever looked the definition of hypocrite up the dictionary.

I mean it is as hilarious as his statement on film preservation of other peoples films, and then he denies his fans the oot and makes sure it rots in a cold storage vault someplace.

Who Felt Return Of The Jedi Was A Letdown At The Time?
Time

It was also the only way Lucas found to get himself out of a hole he had written himself into.  He needed that as Luke's motivation to go apeshit on Vader.

Luke's under the gantry hiding, won't fight Vader and would rather die first, there is no motivation for him to tap into his anger and go over to the darkside.

I mean he is fighting his father, not his father's killer.  Total change in motivation.  If Vader really killed Luke's father and also Obi Wan all you would have is a Revenge tale.

Luke finally in the end throws his saber away realizing he is becoming his father.  Looks at his own mechanical hand and vader's severed stump with wires coming out of it.

He proves to be of stronger character than either of his parents from those prequel films.

To me Jedi has never been a letdown.  I loved everything about it, the novel, the comics, years later i got to play video games that recreate my favorite scenes whether in super return of the jedi or lego star wars.  The Soundtrack is also one of my favorites and i love the Radio Drama.

The Luke kenner figure in black was also my favorite toy as a kid, no i don't have it anymore, but i do have the memories.

Me and my older brother used to reenact the duels from empire and jedi.  He always was Vader, and i played Luke.LOL.  Man we got into so much trouble using sticks or making swords out of old broom handled its a wonder we never killed somebody.
