"17 images that will ruin your childhood" article at cracked.com (OT related)
Time

Well there has been good Indiana Jones and Star Wars after 1989 just not by Lucas.

The worst parts of Indiana Jones IV were his invention.  I know had Spielberg been allowed to make a good film he would have.  Instead he was stuck with a temple of bad scripts and a backseat director.

There are genuine Indiana Jones scenes in that film , but they are few and far between, and i give the success of such scenes to Spielberg, not Lucas who thinks kiddy jokes are so great like nuked fridges and prairie dogs, not to mention jar jar stepping in shit.  Or alien saucers.

The whole thing was just like a bad fanfiction.

After reading all the previous scripts and how awful they were Koepp should be commended for making the movie work on any level at all.

Seeing Jim Henson behind the scenes does not ruin my childhood, but i was devastated when he died being a huge Muppets fan and dark crystal fan. To me he was Kermit the Frog, there is no Kermit without his voice.

Info Wanted: Pre-'93 Japanese Special Collection LD transfers?
Time

The technidisc for Jedi would most likely still have the picture missframed because all released before the definitive collection were that way.

I suppose someone who owns it can check to see if the picture is not corrected.

Moth3r as far as i know the japan special collection for star wars does not have the incredible shrinking ratio problem, but i could be wrong.

If it is not screwed up like the US pressing you could buy a copy of the japan laserdisc, if you don't mind the picture being shifted way up in the frame and burnt in subtitles.  Also is in CAV format and not CLV.

Save Star Wars Dot Com
Time

Its more than offensive when you consider before Lucas godhood he would sign fan items for free.  Same with Spielberg and both were very approachable.

I got an item a starlog magazine he signed on star wars 10th anniversary.

It is real and authentic as the writer of the article for the magazine sold it to me.

This was right after Lucas had done the classic star wars trilogy, and the first two Indiana Jones pictures.  At the height of his powers before he destroyed star wars and indiana jones in a 9 year span of time from 1999-2008.

The pre CGI is king Lucas.  When he was a good filmmaker and not pissing off fans of the oot.

You cannot piss off your most vocal and ardent supporters and the ones who supported you from day one and get anything but flack in the fan community.  And all he had to do to alleviate it was release a decent anamorphic release of the oot on DVD, but no.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

While Modern fans are at the height of excitement over the blu ray release, my fan interest in star wars is at its lowest ebb in my history with star wars as a avid fan.

TFN fans will be ecstatic at the messed up colors and crushed blacks and poor audio mixes.  They will love the fact that these were not even scanned at 2003-4 HD ceiling on resolution, no indeed only 1080P when they were doing 2-4k scans back then.  And now they do 6-8 k and up, with much better tech advanced in seven years.

The 2004 master is at an obsolete resolution, and not even up to release print 35mm quality.

Its an outrage.

Lucas its good enough and cheap enough approach it will get passing grades and high marks despite not being a demonstration quality blu ray release, and it won';t look film-like.

Really a joke when you consider they spent a record amount of money in 1994-1997 to restore the original elements to make the special edition, which Lucas did not pay for Fox did.

Did Lucasfilm advertise the 2004 DVD boxset as...
Time

Nope they had long since dropped the special edition name and were advertising it as the original trilogy proper.  The boxset i bought even had 1977, 1980, and 1983 as the dates instead of 2004.

I know plenty of people returned their sets as false advertising to best buy.

Obviously just a few of the oot fans or this set would not have broken records in sales.  Sadly that helped pave the way for burying the originals.

The bu ray set will probably be the best selling blu ray item ever.

Sadly i now have zero hope of ever seeing a restored oot.

I have my 2006 Gout and have to be satisfied with that i guess.

The Music of the Stars Circa 1977
Time

The writer claims Hermann wrote and scored Bride of Frankenstein.

Also makes an unsourced claim on his psycho score for star wars, i can clearly hear the influence myself, but there is no proof for this assertion.

The article while thematically correct did not have any fact checking done, which makes it poor journalism.

Qui-Gon is back

Finally  something to look forward too. Qui-gon is my  3rd best character of all 6 films  right behind Luke and vader.

About this causing yet another plot hole. I am sure it will. Lucas and clearly shown he  does not care if something causes a plot hole. One more in his mind won't hurt anything.

As much as I hate the PT films  I suggest anyone who has yet to watch the clone wars show to do so. Especially the last two seasons. They are everything the PT films should have been in regards to the anakin skywalker character. He is likable and he  behaves like a respectable jedi knight.

I agree despite the rough patches caused by Lucas meddling the cartoons are still good because he is just an executive producer and idea man, as should have been the case on the prequels.

Okay so maybe he would have had to lay it all out and write episode I and Direct it, but there is no good reason he could not have broight in better writers and directors on II and III.

The only thing that can be said is that he probably started to believe the yes men, that he was infallible and some great auteur artist. The outcome of the prequels which could have been some of the best written sci fi films of the new millennium is the final act of hubris, after burying the real versions of the original star wars trilogy.

The jump in animation quality from the wooden stick figures in the movie to the high quality of season 3 is just amazing. The writing and Directing get better with time as well.  All Misgivings about messing up the Canon aside.

The only 5.1 mix was done for the 1997 special editions.

The only star wars laserdisc besides the phantom meance in ac3.

Phantom was of course Dolby digital ex though, and not just plain vanilla 5.1.

The original films never had any real quality audio release on home video until the Definitive collection and the PCM tracks on those were really nice.  Though i hated the added sounds on star wars.

Also the digital audio releases were rather late in the game even in japan.  Late eighties, Jedi being the first in Digital on laserdisc i believe.

I think they considered testing digital mixing on empire but it was not a proven thing yet, and the THX system had not been created yet by Tom Holman.

The first digital mix was star wars done in 1985 in stereo for home video, but did not make it to laserdisc in the states until 1989 at the earliest.  japan got it in 85 or 86 in the japan special collection, and also the pan and scan digital release predating the 1992 issue of star wars in the USA.

They totally missed the boat on that one.  No prequel images, no jar jar, no hayden, no nuked fridge and shia in indiana jones, or aliens.  What were they thinking.

I didn't know that the Star Wars prequels and Indy 4 were part of your childhood...

I disagree i think they would be very relevent conisdering the oot is buried, star wars has been sullied and destroyed.  Lucas has tarnished his legacy.

The page was on images that would destroy your childhood pretty much the same as Indiana Jones IV and the Prequels.  Not the behind the scenes stuff like the Rinzler book that made me love the oot version of empire even more and made me even angrier that it is ruined by Lucas and not restored.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Of course the scores on the editdroid are low quality, most likely equivalent to a mp3.  You cannot fit a full bitrate PCM on there and keep the video quality as well, and have multiple audio tracks in lossless unless you are creating a blu ray disc.

From what i am aware of You cannot fit the gout video and the 1993 audio PCM even with the menus and lego thing stripped out, and fit it on a DVD9.

With no compression, much less fit on on a DVD5.

return of the evil dead remake
Time

Well they already crapped all over the franchise with bad comics and video games so a fourth movie cannot do worse, or could It ?

I mean its not like he would be the only one doing remakes, how many night of the living dead remakes or sequels do we really need.

The zombie thing has been way over done.  I mean is there any new idea or twist they can do with the genre ?

The craze of the last decade has all but killed the genre, even though the studios figure there is still money to be made.  I mean its like how many freddy or jason movies do you really need.

Next thing they will remake Poltergeist but with CGI and a bad director.
