Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Which should not be a surprise since the clone wars and thx were released on blu ray in DTS.

The DTS on the blu ray is a codec however so they still could include the dolby mixes, but they won't it will be new dts mixes most likely even though Lucash never allowed the 1997 special edition laserdiscs to be in dts, never mind not releasing the 1997 version with its dts mix on blu ray or DVD.

^ What Zombie said is exactly what I said before but in better words!!!

And in the shots that were originally planed to be optical composites, the generation loss is absolutely minimal, because they used 70mm film to shoot the blue screen elements and then they composited all the elements one by one on one film strip. So only one generation was lost and that was compensated for by using the 70mm film. So it is quite possible that a lot of the original finished composites were just as clean as the live action photography, if not even cleaner due to being handled in lab conditions only.

This is a common mistake to make i have made it before.  Star Wars effects were done in VistaVision, they considered using 65mm but went with VistaVision.  Of course the live action footage was shot 2:35:1 with anamorphic lenses on panavision cameras using regular 35mm film.

From what i understand vistavision is 35mm on its side for a larger negative area for the composite optical effects.

They got rid of artifacts in Indiana Jones trilogy that nobody complained about.  There is no original indiana jones trilogy dotcom site.

For some Reason when Bob Z did the release for Back to the Future on DVD and blu ray however he refused to have the noticeable things like wires holding up marty mcly painted out.  These things hurt willful suspension of disbelief.  I was recently watching superman II or III cannot remember which and the wires were so noticeable because of the cleanup job they did on the DVD, the fact that a fan with some off the shelf software could do it makes the studios lazyness pretty transparent.

They could offer 2 versions of the movies one with things like matte lines and garbage mattes, wires removed, and no story content changed or major changes done, something i don't care about, i did not return my Indiana jones set for being false advertising because the snake reflection was gone in the well of souls.

As for me i don't care if nothing else is touched but i don't want to see big black boxes around the tie fighters in star wars, in the gunport sequence.  Even on a properly calibrated tv on the 2004 they are embarrassingly noticeable at 480P just wait until they hit in 1080P, the bitchfest will commence i can almost guarantee it, unless Lucas convinces them its a part of his original vision, or a deliberate creative decision.

AVATAR and 3D in general....
Time

Whatever man i don't know anyone who is sold on 3-D a gimmick to charge 3-4 times as much for tickets.  They are not offering you three times as much story, with these poorly scripted and acted cgi farces.

I made my opinion clear and won't post anymore on this thread, people want to be contrary just to be contrary it seems, if you really enjoy 3-D fine good for you.

Any Cinematogrpaher worth anything won't shoot on 3-D because depth of field issues have not been solved.  Sorry i don't buy Jim Cameron's nonsense.

He may be a good salesman like Walt Disney.  Does not mean i have to buy into it.

Avatar looked fake because it was all created greenscreen and was cgi fake..

There was no film grain and even the real actors looked like wax figures or plastic.

Totally not sold sorry.

I like true imax with film, or omnimax. not video projection.

If they allow choice which should exist then people can choose, forcing 3-D on people is insane, Not anywhere near the same as the transition from silent to sound or black and white to color.

If i want video i'll stay at home.  Film or Nothing.

It is as crazy as abandoning the art of film for HD CAM, or forgoing projecting real film and replacing it with overly bright and videolike DLP.

They can get DLP to look like film then i am sold, otherwise no sale.

If all of moviedom transitions from professionals to lazy and mediocre then count me out.  Over a hundred years of celluloid traded for pure crap.

If the 1977-1983 versions were released, but without all of the sound tracks and with digital recomposits...

How many of you would still be signing petitions and crying foul?  I know it's not what you'd prefer.  But would you still fight the good (?) fight?

The soundtracks don't really matter to me as much as the visual. We already have the majority of the soundtracks anyway, albeit in less than ideal quality.

But I think it would be weird for Lucasfilm to release a recomposited version of the originals. That would require effort and would make the OOT much more pleasing to the average viewer, which goes against everything Lucas has been doing since the late 90s.

It's much more likely they'd do a straight transfer from a print and just dump it on the disc. Which is all we would really need to do our own OT.com magic.

If Star Wars was destroyed  by time and no good copies exist anymore, then where did they get a source for the gout, and how did they print up those 70mm film cels ?  I have been asking this for years.

That along with Lucas statement on the anatomy of a dewback video part 2 make me call bullshit on the official story. Altered and conformed negative for the 1997 special edition absolutely, no source for the originals, absolutely false.  Seperation masters exist.  It would be a generation less than the original negative but more than good enough to splice in from a scan with the oneg for the rest of the footage.

The problem that the o-neg represents is it is the raw camera footage no color timing exists on it.  So in 1997 they had to do a new color pass, and again in 2004.

Better leave Heavy Metal alltogether. Nowadays they would do it at the computer becaues nobody can be bothered drawing anymore. Same that happened with Ghost in the Shell 2 where only a handful of things were hand-drawn and the rest sucked.

THX sequel rumors uh? LOL nice idea. We need a fake trailer too

You know what was worse.  The only restored version of Ghost in the Shell the original has added bad cgi, a new soundtrack and new color timing, they Lucasized the damn thing and it sucks.

The non Restored Blu ray is infinitely preferable.

With all respect to your views Zombie,

I have no problem with them removing eyesores like garbage mattes and changing nothing else.  They never were supposed to be visible in the first place.

The Lowry botch job is going to make them very visible at blu ray resolution.

A lot of regular folks are not even aware of the changes.

Most people don't even know there are 3 versions of the trilogy.

My sister was watching the DVD's and did not even know they were updated, beyond Hayden Christensen sticking out like a sore thumb.

A part of it is George stopped advertising them as Special Editions, they are the only versions of the film he will admit exist.

Not in this household 3-D is a gimmick and is useless to me.

I will cling to my 35mm film viewing until theaters phase them out, and cling to 2D movies and tv they will have to drag me kicking and screaming otherwise.  The day all cinema is 3D or Video, or tv is televised completely in crap 3-D is the day i go back to reading books and books only, lol.

I mean these twerps probably want the news in 3-D too, is just banal and stupid.

Outsource it to someone else who cares about the oot which is not currently Lucasfilm.  It does not even have to be funded by Lucas just license it to whomever.

Have the restoration done by Bob Harris.

Have restoration prints run in the cinemas, then have a blu ray/DVD release simultaneously afterward.

Lucas and Lucasfilm would still benefit in terms of royalty profits, let someone like Fox pay for the restoration, they apparently paid 20 million to restore star wars trilogy in 1997 which was ultimately changed and not restored.

In other words moth3r means a decent mediocre sci fi movie of the week, star wars was supposed to be more than that.

Star Wars downgraded to the very crappy copy cats and other sci fi films that jumped on the bandwagon, the same thing can be said of indiana jones IV stooping to copying copies.

Just because it has familiar names, Jedi and laser swords does not make it star wars.  The creator of star wars himself made the ultimate without substance  knockoff.

Starting with Episode 1 star wars became star wars in name only.

In my Opinion a lesser film that the first 2, Jedi was still the last real star wars film.

How many of you watch the Clone Wars series regularly and what do you think of it?
Time

I wish they would push the envelope in terms of animation and do what only can be done in animation and not live action film.

People say the other clone wars show was over the top, over the top is what animation is about not subtlety.

No one could ever accuse Lucas of being subtle.

His moniker is "Faster and More intense!".

If films, uniquely American films, are part of our society's cultural heritage then he is not only changing or rewriting history but doing a great disservice.

If he in the past talked about the altering of films and how evil it was why is he doing the same thing.  I see no difference in him being the creator, because he is also the studio media mogul and not just the artist.  No difference at all between him or the studios he rightly demonized and criticized.

Someone please ask her why the original versions are suppressed, and why she cannot ask her dad to be a cool dude and release restored versions alongside his preferred versions.

No one would think less of him.  In fact it could heal a good deal of the rift in the fanbase.

Yes the prequels would still exist but we would have the star wars we love back and be able to enjoy it.

Seeding.

Sorry about that, I just bought a new 2TB hard drive and I'm moving all my Star Wars stuff over. I should have them all seeding again soon, but if there are any other SW torrents that need priority, let me know.

BH18 star wars the making of the myth is dead, and so is star wars music by john Williams.

Pulling returning to jedi and reivax as they are seeding.

It is sad that a once great filmaker and storyteller sold out and became a toys salesman.

Joined the Video dark side and whores out cgi.

No longer working with true craftsmen like traditional effects artists or even working with real film.

The oot will be a lasting monument to cinema when film was film and not video, or video games replacing films.
