Return of the Jedi - The Spence Final Cut (Released)
Time

Wow.... The man really has no real excuse as to why it was that bad....wow...

Star Wars took nearly as long the treatment was written in '73 and the final script was delivered in 76 and they revised as the shooting went on, even in the first part of the real filming script Luke was Luke Starkiller until he became Skywalker.

About 4 years.

Phantom took a little longer, but Lucas was rusty 16 years is a long ass time.

Supposedly Carrie Fisher did an uncredited polish on the Phantom Menace finished script, she was one of the first people Lucas gave a copy to read.

Also Jonathan Hales CO-wrote the Attack of the Clones script.

Lucas appears to have written Sith all on his lonesome and also the film started really in the art department without a script and even the finished film deviated from the initial script in how anakin's turn happened.

Only Lucas has said what he changed the initial finished script has never been leaked or published.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Does anyone think the audio on the blu rays will be spectacular in HD, even with the new Obi Wan Krayt Dragon howl, or will they mess it all up again like they did in 2004.  And use incorrect takes like they did in 1997 rather than the selected takes, on the dialogue i mean.  Will the music be dialed down or flipped in the rear channels.

Just wondering if it is worth getting the blu ray for the audio content even if someone hates the 2004 edition.

I know it looks more doubtful all the time that we will ever get a newly restored set of the oot music, never mind in HD.

I would be more likely for someone to rip the LP's like 7FN did and make a DVD-A disc DTS DISC.

Spielberg comments on digital alterations to his films
Time

We can never forget it was Spielberg's idea to add Walkies Talkies to E.T., Just like Lucas had greedo shoot at Han and miss.

Spielberg also altered the dialog from E.T.

See the south park commentary free hat.

I think that made more sense than the star wars and indy rape analogy in that later episode.

Even though fans of both original trilogy find the idea to be true that the films were desecrated by Lucas and Spielberg.

Time

Return of the Jedi's problem besides the added kiddie content like Ewoks and other things put in to sell action figures and vehicles, was that Lucas compressed 4 movies into one.

The original context of Luke's journey would have taken 6 films to tell.  Add on the prequel trilogy and you get 9 films.  I suppose the sequel trilogy other than having Luke as very old in the first episode would have been completely different from the saga of 9 films, just still set in the same galaxy or universe.

The sequel trilogy makes it 12 films.  Also at one point Lucas also considered 2 other unrelated films, which would make 14.

Now we know Lucas only made the six and claims it was always darth vader's story, lol.

This proves Lucas saves every scrap of film.

It is more truthful to point out that the o-neg has been conformed to the special edition in 1997, not that it is destroyed.

So far he has given every excuse under the sun for not restoring and releasing the originals.  Its too expensive, the negative was no longer in existence and permanently altered, it did not fit his original vision, its an oxmoron to include them on the blu ray.  Now the excuse is the separation masters were messed up.  Its like the boy who cried wolf, even if he is telling the truth this time nobody will believe him.

The anniversary edition of Heir to the Empire is coming when ?

I know there is an unabridged audio-recording on CD being read by Marc Thompson coming out a bit later than the hardback.

Del Rey claims sales figures will be figured into whether or not they reprint Dark Force Rising or the Last Command as special annotated hardback editions, or full unabridged audio recordings.

Kind of sad though that the abridged recordings from audio-cassette are not being reissued on CD, the first one read by Wedge Antilles Dennis Lawson, and the other 2 read by C-3PO or Anthony "tony" Daniels.

I managed to find an unabridged version online.  It's actually digitized from audio cassettes.  While the reader isn't great, I prefer the unabridged versions of books in almost all cases.

Is not that old unabridged just a bare dry recording it has no sound effects, no music and no acting or dramatization of the material.

The new Del Rey unabridged volumes have all the above.

They sound like an official Lucasfilm/Lucasbooks production which they are.

Is Part 3 of Anything Ever Good?
Time

Well back to the Future III was pretty bad but not as bad as part II.

Rambo III sucked.

Rocky III was okay but not great.

Ghostbusters II was an abomination.

Pirates of the Caribbean III was a piece of garbage.

Return of the Jedi i like so i would not include it in the list but it does have some disappointing moments, it is very uneven kind of like Last Crusade.

To me the last really exceptional Lucasfilms were Raiders and Empire, though i will admit i like star wars '77 better as an action adventure feel good yarn, and empire as a character piece, that is quite depressing actually unless you are an imperial fan.

Superman II is crap unless its following the serious style of part one, as the unfinished Donner version did.

Superman III,  was bad because it was a joke film in the style of Lester's other films.

Another reason it was more a Richard Pryor film than a superman film.

And i do like Pryor and he had some funny moments in the film, but i found it inappropriate to the universe as created in part 1.

Part IV was just an embarrassment in terms of the plot the special effects and acting.

Laserdisc players - screenshot comparison

Moth3r,

I refer to this one.

As you can see in the pictures, the video quality is the worst of the PAL editions I have, but maybe with a better player, cable, comb filter, it could be watchable... and it maybe "smear-free" too!

I believe the contents of that boxed set are the same discs as the 1994 individual releases - so, according to LDDB, a bad master but better pressing than the 1989 release.

I suspect that it's not worth the effort, and you were right to discard it.

But it has from star wars to jedi in the set, only pal release on laserdisc though i doubt it comes from a pal master.

I have no way of checking my copy as i have no pal laserdisc player but i believe that either it is dubbed in french or has burned in french subtitles, kind of like how the Japan release has burned in subtitles.

Well i lost my Grandfather and great Uncle to the disease so i have personal reasons for taking it very seriously, My only surviving grandmother and grandparent is also legally blind and cannot walk without help because she suffers from it.

On Lucas i also believed George's mother suffered from it though they never knew what her illness was in those days.  She was always bedridden and sickly, he was mostly raised by his nanny Till and his dad was almost always at work at LM Morris company.

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)
Time

The original German dub was archived on the German gout, now out of print as is the japan release and the USA release.

Too late to buy new copies.

The USA release is still easy enough to get through second hand sellers on Amazon.com, but unless you live in the UK getting the UK release is next to impossible, the same with wanting to own any other regions release or countries.

Ah, interesting. He says the cyan strip was out of synch, so that's why the separations were no good.

As with Lucas weight i wish people would leave jokes about the size of his neck alone, the poor man has suffered diabetes for about half his life or more.

This is a terrible illness which can result in blindness, loss of limbs due to necessary amputations in the worst cases and yes death.

Has Steve Perry ever written anything really well? He's all over these franchise EU material, but all his stuff reads the way a fourteen-year-old would expect, although maybe he simply knows his audience in that regard.

The only thing i can think of is his Shadows of the Empire novelization, and the best parts of that merely echoed things from empire strikes back and foreshadowed return of the jedi.

His indiana jones crystal skull prequel with Mac and Indiana Jones, and Zombies. Is one of the very worst things to ever come out of the indy franchise, and i am including Crystal skull in this.

More Old Republic game

Jesus Christ, you people don't like anything do you?

I cannot believe that for once i agree with you, lol.

Old Republic as an extension of Kotor is welcome to me.  I only wish it was a single person game and not an mmo.

I am hoping they are keeping George as far away from this as possible, he ruined the force unleashed with his nonsense and he also did so to the clone wars cartoons.

Watched the trailer that Clint Eastwood like smuggler character is badass, reminds me of a fistful of dollars if it was a sci fi movie with bulletime like the matrix.

He looks kind of like the man with no name, but also resembles a Han Solo or Dash Rendar type.

and isn't that the Spielberg you prefer?

Yes that is the Spielberg i prefer.  But i am not wrong in saying the film is not totally original even JJ Abrams said it was basically a send up of his memories of watching Spielberg films back in the day.

Does that mean i hate the movie far from it i love Star Trek 2009 even though i think it is star trek in name only.

I wonder if Abrams can bring Spielberg around, all we need is for him to work with people like JJ or others instead of Michael bay or modern Lucas.

Many people have said Star Trek is what the Star Wars prequels should have been.

A JJ Abrams directed star wars film would be something, maybe better than a Lucas prequel.

Are you talking about of between Episode III and Now what is called Episode IV but what i call Star Wars ?

The reason that is forbidden is because that is the era Lucas is doing the live action series.

Not exclusively forbidden if you count the dark times comics, that other Vader comic that just ended, force unleashed, and dark lord novel the rise of Darth Vader.

But stuff they have not been allowed to to do is what now.  They established the rebellion twice once not counted because it was a deleted scene in revenge of the sith, and the second time on force unleashed.

Not sure i probably would do Jack Kirby X-men were i in charge, or Chris Claremont.

Maybe First Class is the fresh take the series needs.

With Bryan Singer in the fold as an producer, and Shuler Donner hinting at an X-4 with the possible return of Patrick Stewart, and a sequel as well X-5.

I think they should really do a new series of films branched off from first class and just leave the trilogy alone, as much as i miss a singer wrap up it never happened and now won't properly unless he goes back and reshoots x-3 entirely.

They tried to get Singer to direct First Class and they are trying to sign him for X-4, i am sure they also have to re-sign all the other stars from the previous films except for Famke Jansen and the dude who played Cyclops forget his name.  Xavier's consciousness merged with his twin brothers dormant body.

If X-4 happens i think we are led to believe or assume the deleted scene of Xavier's return and the slight hint when Magneto is playing chess at the end of X-3 that his powers are returning and are a part of the continuity.

Personally i think doing more sequels is a bad idea, but its all about the brand and they are going to milk it dry.  Though i was and am looking forward to the second Wolverine picture if they can find as good a director as they lost for part II, the guy who did part one obviously is not a choice because that sucked, though i liked it on DVD enough, but the lack of the Claremont/Miller Wolverine tales was felt by most fans.
