Continuity is really a pain in the ass when it comes to creating a good movie and story.  When everything is already defined you don't have much room for creativity, which is why i don't understand why there are not more original sci fi or fantasy films not from an established property.

You get boxed in by the continuity it happened to the people who did the star trek before the current one, and it happened to George Lucas on his star wars series.

First Class may be well a great film in its own right but is it an X-men film ?

Dealing with the issues the comics did and such makes it so, but without the actual characters and no continuity makes it sort of a separate thing like JJ's Star Trek.

I would not say its a bad movie.

But is it the kind of X-men film i would have made, probably not.  But the writer and director have a right to cement their own creative vision and comic book fans be damned.

There are many reason's why i despise prequels.  Even if the film itself is good, i don't like prequels in general as i would rather get on with the story and not focus too much on origins unless it is just maybe the first film in a series.  Like Batman Begins, or again JJ's Star Trek, the second one of course will be when we see more of that characters and universe since they had to be established in that first film.

Sometimes though a director does the movie that establishes the character and story outline and then does not get to do the sequel, as in the case with Superman Returns where the sequel was completely erased from existence and they went reboot crazy.

Spielberg comments on digital alterations to his films
Time

I hated temple of doom and i hated crystal skull, now i sort of like parts of doom like the mine cart chase, but i still cannot stand shortround or the screaming chick anymore than Jar Jar Binks.

But hey at least the stunts and filming were all done in the raw and real not digital and no cgi cartoons were inserted.

There are also some pure indy moments in skull that i love but they are few and far between and obvious are Speilbergs doing, the prequel era lucasiism's ruined the rest of the movie.  I cannot watch Last Crusade and enjoy as i once did either because they made Brodie into a moron and Sallah into a racist caricature.

So all in all there may as well be only 1 Indiana Jones film that is Good, Raiders of the Lost Ark.  Yes their are some silly moments there but not to the point where the rest of the film is ruined or you lose willful suspension of disbelief.

The Jeffery Boam parts of Last Crusade work but not the Lucas parts.  One should give Lucas all the credit for Temple and those wonderful writers of Howard the Duck, Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz. Well okay they did write 35% of star wars and wrote American Graffiti, but doom and duck both sucked as scripts.  Doom was obviously a very entertaining action spectacle.

The only nearly perfect script is Kasdan's Raiders.  And they moved the mine cart chase and shanghai to Doom.

Box office is not everything transformers 2 is one of the highest grossers.  As for X-3 it followed in the wake of both the excellent x-men and then x-men 2 by Bryan Singer.

X-3 while a crappy or mediocre film still was better than the even worse prequel wolverine origins, i have not even bothered to see the other prequel.

Havok instead of Cyclops, and they are not related wtf?

Also this prequel lacks the gravitas of the other films because no Ian Mckellen and no Patrick Stewart.

I really dislike they are calling it first class and it has nothing to do with the Jack Kirby inspired comic.

It is possible that a Bryan Singer X-3 could have been worse he wanted to cast Sigourney weaver as Emma Frost, lol.  Or it could have been great i mean look at what happened to spider-man 3 when the first films were so good.  The studio wanted to sell actions figures so they forced Venom into the storyline.

Also look at Superman Returns and compare that against X-3.  We got both a crappy Superman and X-men instead of a good x film.

You'll have to look for it on newsgroups.

That is too bad then i already pay an insane amount of money to my ISP, not paying for newsgroups.

Whenever someone posts it to tehparadox or a fileshare i will be interested.

Otherwise i will wait an eternity for the blu ray release.

 Blu-ray's are coming next year.

Confirmed source or DigitalBits rumor mill ?

Like is there an Amazon link for preorder? If not, then i don't believe it.

Wheres the Lucasfilm press on it if it is coming next year ?  They did a big deal with star wars going to blu ray.  I have not heard a peep from the official site on Indiana Jones.

Also TFN would be all over this blu release like flies on shit, now since they have not posted anything or the official site, and nothing has been released by paramount i have my doubts.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)

97 Special Edition would be very nice!

Agreed as much as i loathe the 1997 special edition the colors and sound were not botched, and return of the jedi did not have Hayden and jar jar like in the 2004 cut.

It would also be nice to have all three cuts on Blu ray.

I would like a fixed or tweaked 2004 with correct colors, the 1997 laserdisc sound mix.  The closest thing i can get to that is Adywan's A New Hope Special edition in HD, but he removed Jabba and greedo shooting so it is not a pure preservation.

What do you LIKE about the EU?

The anniversary edition of Heir to the Empire is coming when ?

I know there is an unabridged audio-recording on CD being read by Marc Thompson coming out a bit later than the hardback.

Del Rey claims sales figures will be figured into whether or not they reprint Dark Force Rising or the Last Command as special annotated hardback editions, or full unabridged audio recordings.

Kind of sad though that the abridged recordings from audio-cassette are not being reissued on CD, the first one read by Wedge Antilles Dennis Lawson, and the other 2 read by C-3PO or Anthony "tony" Daniels.

I actually remember there being a big chunk of one of the books where Han is gone so the story follows Lando for a little while, whilst Han is off in Corporate Sector. Though it might be shorter than I remember. =P

As for the Dark Times, it's not strictly off-limits, there is actually a comic set in that time period with that very title. It's actually my favorite Star Wars comic series. I'd highly recommend it.

As for anything else Star Wars related Anchorhead might like to check out, I'd recommend the daily newspaper strips that started back in '79. You can find them by clicking on my sig. It starts off pretty good, then the main writer and illustrated had to leave due to illness and it gets a little iffy for a couple stories and then BAM it becomes fantastic.

I still miss Al Williamson and Archie Goodwin.

Archie as an editor of the Marvel series get very little credit these days. though he was a big contributor to the EU.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

2 words in that article on the DC horrify me, Lowry and grain removal, lol.

The extra grainyness was supposed to be an effect of the original cinematography to suggest a documentary.

Same with American Graffiti.  Then they changed the color timing the audio and the grain levels on the DVD, its an abomination.

The biggest crime Walter Murch's soundwork is gone on the blu rays.

Newly created mixes were put in place instead.

Spielberg comments on digital alterations to his films
Time

I wish he asked him about Crystal Skull and if nuking the fridge and aliens were George's ideas.

Some of my respect for Spielberg has been regained after reading this, but i can never forgive Indiana Jones IV.

If he could make a part V to make up for the bad part IV it might be interesting, but since Lucas would be involved would be another cgi piece pf garbage with star wars prequel-esque kiddie jokes.

What makes Spielberg a genius he said Aliens were a bad idea, he said the end of part 3 was the perfect ending for the series.

But for his friendship with George he made the movie, but not his way.  He wanted to shoot it old school with traditional effects, but no Lucas had to put his foot down and demand CGI cartoons to be added.

Celebration VI

I see nothing about the current state of Star Wars to celebrate.

Indeed why go to a large gathering of warsie nerds who dress up as stormtroopers and kiss Lucas ass the sycophants, when the original films are locked up in skwalker ranch and he won't release them.

Lets pay money to the almighty bearded one and worship him. And celebrate the destruction of the oot.

It's not like they have panels praising the ronto butt shots or ROTJ Hayden. =P They love Luke, Han and Leia just as much as the next person. Is there prequel love going on at these things? Yeah, but that's just another part of the fandom now and easily ignored.

The last Celebration was Empire Strikes Back themed and they had Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Jeremy Bulloch, Robert Watts and Gary Kurtz all there. Not to mention a slew of actors that played bit parts in the films like Wes Janson and Dak, Ackbar, Veers etc. They're the really fun ones to talk to because they're easily accessible and honest with their opinions.

I am by no means a fan of the SE but I also don't let it ruin my enjoyment of the OT. Especially not when I'm a part of an excellent community like this one that helps people enjoy the films like they were. Star Wars is still fun, you just have to let yourself enjoy it again.

I will always remember the last celebration as the unveiling of the blu ray and Lucas bullshit nonsense about including the original being an oxymoron.

Okay the deleted Jedi footage of Luke Building his lightsaber being introduced by Mark Hamill  was cool.

But just brings up how ridiculous having deleted scenes are when the movies won't even be on the blu ray, the 2004 is not, emphatically not the original star wars trilogy. Special Edition 2.0 is what it is, anything else is false advertising.

What is a real crime in my opinion against art is that the originals have not been seen the way they were intended for 25- 30 years.

The originals should be seen in cinemas and in a restored print.

the 1997 which began as a restoration was in fact the opposite, it was a way to bury and destroy the movies.

The new Blu-ray releases of American Graffiti, and Legend, BOTH looked and sounded GREAT! although the Director's Cut of Legend did not look as good as the US Theatrical Cut.

Yeah too bad the real version of graffiti is not on DVD, or Blu ray, the same with THX 1138.  And We know the original star wars won't be on blu ray either.

I don't like the Lucas revisions with new color timing, cgi or dvnr.
