Space Battleship Yamato (2010)

Just saw the live action film (with English subs). It was horrendous!

I am someone who loved the cartoon as a kid.

Which was supposedly more inspired by New Galatica and JJ Trek than the space battleship yamato series of films and tv shows that are now a part of legend.  Though the new animated film was a letdown as well and bombed in japan.

I have yet to see either the new animated film which i do have on DVD, and i have not yet gotten the new film.  Of course neither has a USA release with subtitles.  ENgrish subtitles even on the official import copies hardly counts in my honest opinion.

The new movie not sure it can be called a film was the first two seasons of the cartoon compressed into one film with changes made to the characters.

Which has the effect of being even more compressed than the first animated movie which was the warp speed version of season 1.

The new movie instead of being a planned trilogy like Disney had an idea for that was scrapped for starblazers and the USS Arizona.

Supposedly after the success in japan of the low budget Yamato live action there is supposed to be a Hollywood version in the planning, no word on if its Yamato Americanized or Starblazers.  Either way if not for a soaring classical score and big special effects, it will most likely ruin peoples memories.

The Dead Zone TV Series
Time

I have seen it and though a fairly good show at the start it kind of got less good as time went on and got cancelled.

Still kind of laugh with the Guy from the Weird Science movie in it.

It was very hard to except Anthony Michael Hall as a serious actor, even though he was pretty decent on this show.

After seeing him in the breakfast club and weird science and what ever other films i cannot remember.

Ghost Rider - Movie
Time

Never bothered to watch this or the second horrible fantastic four movie.

Too bad i did watch, spider-man 3, x-3 and wolverine origins all awful movies.

Too  few good comic book movies, never mind excellent or better than good.

Just because the subject matter is often juvenile they think it gives them license for lazy filmaking and bad storytelling, and even if they even attempt those there is always the almost required awful cgi.

Most films don't have the budget for good cgi, or don't use them well.

Directors that can use cgi seamlessly with the live action are few as i know, not that i can name many except for Nolan.  I used to think Raimi did too, then i went back and saw how horribly the cgi in the first 2 spider-man films has aged.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

At what bitrate is the audio for the mono mix and 77 stereo on the blu ray, same as the limited LPCM as belbecus created?

I wish there was a true 77 blu ray from Lucas with the mono mix in HD, but the chance of that scenario happening is less than zero.

I am going to be buying an HDTV and Blu ray player for the official discs, so i might as well watch this space for dark jedi's blu set availability.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

If Fox owned the rights as a corporation out to make profits you know they would put out awesome restored versions of the oot, sadly Lucas retains all the rights.

If Lucas was as good a businessman as he is reported to be he would see the demand for the oot, or at least as a man on a board dedicated to preservation of films he should just let his ego go.

It makes no logical sense, having the oot out there does not mean he cannot sale a new original vision version every few years.

Not only that putting the choice in the hands of the consumer is ultimately democratic and the American thing to do.

Okay, who actually LIKES the Prequels
Time

Two of the reasons the prequels are virtually unwatchable if you can ignore Lucas bad direction and poor scripts, is that David Tatterstall is a horrible cinematographer in my honest opinion, and ben burrt a horrible film/video editor, except of course for the film he won an award for special effects.

Other than that what can i say i like about the prequels some of Williams music but not very much of it is as iconic as the oot, the saber duel in menace is a bit overdone at least ray park is a real martial artist/gymnast, skilled in kendo. The duels in II and III were laughably bad.

Jake Lloyd is almost bearable in Episode 1 and overly criticized once you get to the transition worst actor possibly ever to grace a star wars film, hayden christensen.  Jake at least came off a precocious kid and dreamer, and was likeable nothing likable about hayden's version of Skywalker.

Unless being a whiny emo bitch and treasonous to the Jedi order are noble traits.

I always thought the difference in fighting styles between the two trilogies was obvious.  One group of movies were made in the late 70s to early 80s, the other group of movies were not.

Trying to explain away the differences with anything other than that sounds like comic book nerd bickering, and not the cool kind.

Its easy to do one set of movies were good oot 77-83

The other movies were bad 99-2005 and were nothing but a cross between a videogame cutscene and action figures toy sales promotion.

Lucas' attitude
Time

Nah Lucas has always been overly descriptive and never trusted the audience, it was Kurtz who insisted on the force being ethereal and Lucas wanted the Kiber Crystal , then Lucas went back and agreed with Kurtz on compromise.

But that was before the yes men and sycophants.

Some of the worst Prequel ideas seem to have been discarded ideas from abortive drafts of the first film star wars known now as episode IV.

These prototype scripts are available for all to read on the jedi bendu script page.

I cannot prove it but i am more than willing to believe a lot of material left out of the first 3 films and discarded was simply used in the prequels because of no budget constraints and no being fought by the studio or his helpers to weave a coherent narrative, a big part of which was Marcia's sensibilities as an editor.

The most enjoyable human elements were stripped almost completely away beginning with the phantom menace in being replaced by snazy graphics that pop off the screen and say " look at me im a special effect.  No story need apply look at the pretty backgrounds pay no attention to the nonsensical story or the bad acting." And horrendous pacing and bad editing, not to mention how they ruined a good many john Williams pieces with the edits they did.

The originals are not there! That should cause people to march on the streets.

No other  video release is sold like this, in which the ONLY thing that matters is not EVEN there. This should not even be sold as SW, but people will inevitably ignore it. What a shame. It is LIKE someone watching a brutal murder, and saying or doing nothing to stop it.

And don't trust these initial reviews.

That they are calling it the complete saga without the inclusion of the originals is ludicrous beyond comprehension, the films that made the star wars legend.

They should slap Lucas original vision 4.0 on the box and call it a day, i won't be a bit surprised if the copyright dates are 1977, 1980 and 1983 again as to dupe people since the special edition title had been dropped and no mention of them being 2004 new cuts, so why would they then now put a 2011 updated copyright when that would draw attention to the lie that  it is marketed as the  original trilogy.

Deceptive and immoral marketing practices, joe public will be confused into thinking these are the real versions of the movies which is what Lucas intends, the erasure of the oot from historical record, impossible to do completely. but not that he has not tried.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Over at that HD site the guy says you could almost feel the force at the Presidium, yeah the dark side.  Since the originals are not going to be on the blu ray.

As Yoda says in those awful movies "the dark side clouds everything"

One thing the mockups reveal is that the phantom menace looks spectacular because it was shot on film, episode II and III look horrible, even worse than superman returns and that is saying something,

Also that they apparently retransfered all three prequels yet tweaked the 2004 master stuck at 1080P for the blu ray for the 2004 un-original originals.

Lucas not only hates the oot apparently he also just plainly hates the original trilogy period and gives all the effort on the shitquels.

Still even for aficionados who think the prequels were not up to par its nice that we are finally getting some of the non released deleted prequel material like qui gon's duel with maul on the queen's ship ramp as they leave tatooine.

For me the deleted return of the jedi material is worth the price alone, the lightsaber build scene in complete unfinished form and also the extended bunker scene and sandstorm, though no jejerrod being choked by vader which is disappointing.

The deal-breakers for me.  Price of set and no inclusion of the oot or 1997 versions, only selected deleted material is being presented culled from over 30 plus years of the archives, no from star wars to jedi, the other docs being in standard def from old digital videotape masters made in the 90's, no empire of dreams, the cut down version or the unreleased longer director's cut version which they had hoped to release someday.  No Star Wars 77 rough cut or lost cut.

Also would not have killed them to offer the theatrical prequels, the imax cut of clones and the 1996 redone oot footage from special effects.

The 2004 original trilogy edit being stuck in pre 2004 state of the art resolution, and no new scan like zombie has said they cannot even get the special editions right.

You cannot get the oot deleted scenes and docs outside of the saga set, you have to buy the hated prequels to get them they are not in the trilogy only pack.  Its almost as bad as having to buy the 2004 version twice to get a non anamorphic laserdisc master from 1993 ported over as a bonus disc.

If it was a painting no one would have batted an eye, but it's CG and the guys says "look CG!" and acts like he's made some kind of wry observation.

EDIT: On second glace, seriously, IS that a painting?

Lucas the billionaire is obviously too poor for a drew struzan painting, the same as he is too poor to transfer 35mm film like the original star wars trilogy.

Why not crap Photoshop they did it with the star wars 2004 dvd set, and the 2006 .  The art Director at Lucasfilm should seriously be replaced first the blu ray art is horrible for star wars and now this stupid red tails poster.
