Are the Jedi so good?
Time

Depends on if one views the Jedi through the prism of the prequels.

I don't, the prequels are from a galaxy remade in the 1990's.

Lucas basically rebooted the whole universe, but instead of remaking star wars, empire and jedi he keeps trying to edit them to fit the context of the re-imagined universe.

I view the Prequels the same way i do Star Trek 2009, completely different continuity from the prime universe, in this case the OOT.

These are not the prequels Lucas had in mind in the 70's and 80's so they had no reason to have been made.

Let's all say something nice about George Lucas. No insults allowed.

They could have done King Conan with Milius but the studio would not back it.

And honestly with Arnold's age, they would have to have played that up in the movie or recast, or do what they have done reboot.

I would like a version faithful to REH manuscripts, not the butchered edited version by L. Sprague de Camp.

I think John Carter should be animated.

I heard the 2006 set with the GOUT is now gone...

I have the GOUT, but I will not buy another copy for back-up. I will not even buy a copy of a properly released OOT (if it ever happens). Lucasfilm will get no more money from me. Ever. If my version of the GOUT is lost, stolen, or stops working it will be sayonara to Star Wars for me.

It will probably be for the best.

If that happens to me i have non rotten laserdiscs which will probably never rot since they were pressed in japan.

The faces laserdiscs.  The Definitive USA printing is a definite rotter, my japan set has none.

My Japan special collection discs play as new as well.

I'm not a big Nirvana fan, but I'd say that they had a pretty big impact on music. Pretty much everyone knows who Cobain is.

Moreso than Alan Jackson, at least. Don't hear much about him if you're not into country music.

The best thing to come out of Nirvana is Grohl, oh and of course Foo Fighters would not exist if Nirvana did not go bust.

Nor would, them Crooked Vultures.

If George Lucas won't allow public screenings of the unaltered original trilogy...
Time

It would be nice to have official screenings of the vintage versions of the films fully restored from the negative and best possible surviving sources.

We all know Lucas is never going to allow that.

Even the 1997 version is now orphaned, while the 2004 is readily easy to find if not on blu ray.

Sure if you can forgive the holiday special, Howard the duck and temple of doom.  This before even radioland murders, the star wars prequels or Indiana Jones IV.

Spielberg may have made raiders but he also made 1941.

Lucas had to really fight to get the film for Spielberg the studio wanted any one but him after 1941. Speaking of Raiders of course.

Paramount had to put huge penalties in place if the film went over schedule or over budget.

I liked old Lucas the one who said "a special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing"

He articulates this point far better in the peecher book on the making of jedi, even taking an anti cgi stance.

Funny how modern Lucas made sure that documentary is not on the blu ray, lol.

For those who are not following i was referencing from star wars to jedi, which along with the OOT is now buried.

Save Star Wars Dot Com
Time

That was before his big plan was to destroy the childhood memories of millions by erasing the original versions from existence.

He has been doing that in earnest since the mid 1990's but we did not find out his true intent until after 1995.  When the originals were not available from 1995- until 2006.  And them being on the dvd set was Jim Ward's idea and came out of marketing it had nothing to do with Lucas changing his mind.

If anyone thought otherwise Lynn Hale's statement makes Lucas stance very clear.

The fact that the bonus discs have been allowed to fall out of print speaks volumes.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Phantom Menace had very fine grain anyhow, as Lucas chose a purposely low grain stock i believe.

But now they have completely removed all the grain, this looks worse than the first gladiator blu ray, and worse than the first blu transfer of fellowship of the ring.

Have seen American graffiti and there they used a light touch, the grain is intact.  Much more prominently then say in thx 1138 george Lucas directors cut of which the HDTV rip has plenty of grain but the blu ray had been scrubbed, star wars trilogy still has grain if a but too much removed.

What is with Lucas these days he used to make films, not videos with cooked fake color levels and almost no grain.

Not Only does the complete saga set not have from star wars to jedi, the hope that it would include the Parbot documentary has since been crushed.

The original ending of Ponda Baba
Time

Well in the novelization and the screenplay was not Ben supposed cut the guy in half, into two gruesome sections from chin to groin.

This like Vader ripping the rebel troops arm off, or stormtroopers heads exploding were toned down for the film.

Since this scene is borrowed from one of Kurosawa's film where Mifune kills the guy with his Samurai sword the cut in half part was probably too graphic, and the spurt of blood etc.  In the Kurosawa film it is more implied you don't see the guy literally cut in two.

I cannot remember which of the two films the scene was in its either Yojimbo or Sanjuro.
