Better every time. Genius performance, brilliant direction and sound design, paranoid, and features a highly fashionable raincoat.. ;)

4 creepy Harrisons out of 4 secret recording balls

Is it just me or does anyone else agree that this is a better film than Godfather II?

I like it better than the Godfather which is considered blasphemy.

Godfather a film Coppola did not even want to make and did not write the book it was based on. An adaptation he did to get out of debt.  Debt largely caused by Lucas and THX 1138 and Warners cancelling all Zoetrope projects.

Godfather may be the best film of its type.  The acting is top notch, the directing and the screenplay, however it is far from original and is overrated slightly imho.

Last comic read
Time

I was reading the unauthorized by Edgar Rice Burroughs inc adaptation of the martian series, supposedly Marvel is doing an authorized version.  which probably is changed to fit the new movie sadly.

The unauthorized one i was reading took liberties too but not in the same painful manner that the script by Stanton does.

None of the adaptations have ever done the material justice.  I have always hoped for a Frazetta / Alex Raymond/ Al Williamson type effort.

Some of the IDW Trek stuff is well written, the stuff not by Orci or Kurtzman.

But the art is almost always bad and the photoshop covers, and cgi interior line art is bogus.

Star Wars Blu Ray Impressions

IMO, the one overriding reason that the set can be "worth it" is for the 3 old-school documentaries on Disc 9.  The prices on the secondary market for legit versions of "The Making of Star Wars", "SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back", and especially for the Japan-only "Classic Creatures" LD together rival the cost of the BD set.

Yes, I know that almost everyone on this site has at least on LD-to-DVD transferred version of each of the documentaries (Rowman's for me) but to have a proper release is nice in itself.

How are they encoded? AVC? How high is the bitrate?

Not sure how they are encoded on the BD since i don't have it.  I do know they are from the digital video masters from the 90's, probably the self same as those used on the japan laserdiscs without the burned in subtitles of course.

These are not proper releases because not only did Lucas not go back to the negatives, he did not scan 16mm LPP prints either.  Dump to disc just like the gout.

Silverwook i read about Luca$h adding fake grain to the blu ray but i thought it was another internet myth, sigh.

Luke's saber appears to be green in the making of Star wars documentary
Time

Danny was basing this on the very faded and clearly Eastman Kodak release print reduced to monaural and 16mm for the documentary.

This looks exactly like what an American print would look like six months or a year after being struck.  A UK IB Tech print would have still retained all its colors.

Luke's Saber in Star Wars was blue white. In Empire  Blue and Green in Jedi.

What was the "fatal flaw" of the Prequels if you think they sucked? (aka. Let's take a break from hating on the blu-rays)

Ben Burtt looked like Lucas's timid slave in the prequel documentaries. Just another yes man stroking George's ego.

I used to think the Burtt was a genius coming up with the Star Wars sounds in my youth.

He is a genius when kept to what he is good at sound design, not editing or anything else.

His work on Wall E and Star Trek were pretty good.  I guess he was just giving George what he wanted.

I have a feeling on some parts George just told him to go nuts, like with the roger roger robots in menace, or the asteroid explosion in clones.

ok, finished watching return of the jedi,

i think it came out the best... about 97% was

very clean, and there are a few glitches and

skips, but it's not worth trying to recapture

for those parts..

jedi is good because its not time compressed,

so it sounds and looks right.. the colors are

dull, but that's how it was encoded..

i think i can make one decent version

of empire strikes back... there are glitches

in both versions..

i'll check star wars again, and work on fixing

and encoding them..

later

If Jedi is not time compressed like the first issue laserdisc pan and scan i am very much interested in it.  Is this the white caddy or blue caddy version? Never found out the difference i have the rarer white one and both discs.

Star Trek TNG on BluRay confirmed !
Time

Ironic that the film elements when scanned for star wars opticals yield a better quality image than the effects stuck at 1080P done in 2004.

Just think in the future Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith will have to be uprezed from 1080P in terms of being shot on video and the effects as well.

You can have 4k projection for the 4 films, but Lucas shot the last 2 movies as videos.

Anyone here keeping up with the EU right now. What do you guys think of the newest series. And was anyone else upset that they actually killed Darth Caedius at the end of legacy of the force. I really wish they had him come back and become sorta like how raynar is now.

I remember that horrible series the one where Jacen Solo was supposedly irredeemable and his sister murdered him.  The one where they brought back Lumiya or whatever her frak name was from the marvel comics and killed Mara Skywalker.

The one with Emo Jacen doing the Hayden Skywalker thing.  Not as bad as the bug trilogy but probably the worst star wars series at least until fate of the jedi that is.

I almost wish someone other than Del Rey would get the license ever since the NJO they have been ruining the EU.

And by the way its Expanded Universe, but whatever.

I don't know if we should expect anything more from ADM in the Harry Potter series, but has anyone had the opportunity to check out if there is worth while deleted content on Deathly Hallows 1?

I've been sort of holding back on this title since I have the weird feeling that well see an official Deathly Hallows 'Whole Bloody Affair' sort of thing talked about in the near future.

Edit: And hoping to not be TOO off topic, if no one else is going to tackle Half-Blood Prince, I've been thinking I'd start putting together an extended edition later this week.

Don't expect menus (unless someone wants to volunteer some), and I'm not sure I'm even going to do a DVD9 release (unless there is serious demand for it).

I would be interested in an edit that reordered the scenes and made it into one film.

The problem is what would you cut and or add?

TehParadox.com would be a good place to put it (no need for invites, and no ratios needed either).

That's exactly the place i was thinking, using jdownloader makes dl easy.

I found some rare stuff and have myself upload a few over there.

This would be a welcomed idea.

At least as far as i am concerned.

OFFICIAL: Library of Congress had original prints replaced with 1997 SE
Time

Is it possible that lucasfilm is not lying and that all existing prints, IP's and IN's are all in poor shape?

That the so called restoration in the 1990's was anything but, we also got the o-negs recut to the 1997 version.  An outrage.

So if no new restoration is undertaken at this time these films could be lost forever.  I don't care that Lucas seems to think a 1080P scan from 2004 is the new master digital negative.

Other studios can restore classic films at an 8K resolution.

If Warners can do it and MGM can why not Lucasfilm?

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

For most people lazy 2 and a half star blu ray is good enough, so that is broke a worldwide sales record.

Lucas can be as lazy as hell and still rake it in because of the brand name.

Truly a sad and dark time to be not only a star wars fan but a cinema fan.

Seriously the prequels were phoned in and so was Indiana Jones crystal skull and look at the money they made.
