Recreating the PT from Original Film Takes
Time

All of Anakin's scenes would have to be reshot in II and III to remove the horrible Hayden Christensen, that would be a start.  But not a complete fix you would still have the horrible direction and horrible script.  Ineptitude of Lucas and all involved to tell a compelling and moving human story.

Anyway there is no reason to redo them they were extremely successful business ventures as was Crystal Skull despite what fans thought of them.

Just like the sw blu ray saga set records and there is zero reason for Disney to release the originals based on sales of the already available set.

What to please a few people ?   They are a business and in business to make money.

The possible Few thousand who care about film preservation or like the old versions better is not enough to undertake a major and expensive restoration.

the Amazing Spider-man worst of the Spider-man movies.  Really missing the Danny Elfman music.

Has no life to it, no fun.  And the actor was extremely wooden/sullen if not as bad as Hayden Christensen in the star wars prequels.

The love interest cannot recall the actress name at the moment was underused in the movie, there seemed to be little exposition between the two characters or any real connection.

The movie looked far cheaper than the other spider-man films and not as dynamic in terms of theatrical presentation.  Did not look like film.

Seemed to be a set up vehicle for part 2 but i was so underwhelmed i probably won't see part 2 when the green goblin obviously surfaces.

I also thought Martin Sheen was underused and barely a placeholder in the movie.

1.5 stars out of a possible 4.

Speaking of Bond and Martin Campbell i still find it mind boggling the man who directed Goldeneye and Casino Royale is the man who also made the turkeys legend of Zorro and green lantern.

Should have stuck with Bond.

Who should Direct the Star Wars VII, VIII, and IX ?
Time

Fang Zei said:

It ain't Vaughn.

Several weeks ago when news broke that Vaughn was dropping out of First Class 2, it was reported that he would be directing a movie of Mark Millar's Secret Service instead. Then the Episode VII news broke and people starting going "Oh, I bet you THIS is the REAL REASON he dropped out of First Class 2." Mark Millar himself even debunked the rumor.

For the time being, it appears to be down to Bird, Abrams and Spielberg.

I loved Abrams' Star Trek (and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the partially-filmed-in-true-15/65-IMAX sequel), but for him to go from two Star Trek movies to directing a Star Wars movie would be a little too much like what happened with Bryan Singer going from X-Men and X2 to Superman Returns. Plus, I'm already hearing people make jokes about lens flares during lightsaber duels.

I love Spielberg, but I think the time for him directing a Star Wars movie was 1999. There's too much ill will towards him now after Crystal Skull, regardless of how many of that movie's problems may or may not have been caused by Lucas.

Bird is probably my favorite all-around choice. I saw Mission: Impossible 4 in honest-to-God 15/70 and the IMAX sequences were amazing.

If Vaughn is not directing X-men First class 2, and if Bryan Singer does not step in to direct it i will refuse to see it.  X3 and Wolverine origins sucked.

Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years
Time

Is there someone these days as good as Lawrence Kasdan in his prime when he wrote Empire and Raiders?

I want someone that good to write the new movies.  I want someone as good as Spielberg was on Raiders, Lucas on Star Wars 1977, or Kershner on Empire to direct it.

Also why settle for matching the oot for greatness when you could top it, the prequels made us lower our expectations to the point where a Sub Return of the Jedi effort would be acceptable.

The Kind of money they have and the technologies that now exist should mean they could make the best star wars movies ever possible.

But probably won't happen.

Recasting our heroes

But they killed Fett again in the EU,  With Lucas permission in the Boba Fett is dead comics.  Only so they could have Mirta his daughter take over.

I wish Mara Skywalker would be in the movies but doubt that, it was Lucas decision to have her killed anyways in the EU because the choice  Karen Traviss wanted was Luke and he said no.

Zahn was not even asked he created the character but Lucasfilm owns it.

A bit Spoiler-ish but those lousy ea books have been out for years.

James Bond 007 Thread
Time

I have always wondered what the story for the aborted screenplay of the third Dalton film was about and what kind of film it would have been.

As interested as i would have been to see a Brosnan version of Living Daylights.

I would have liked more quality Dalton and Brosnan pictures but it seems like the newest bond actors make the fewest films.  I would be very surprised if Craig does 4.

Since Skyfall returns to the classic film Bond formula i have not been more excited over a Bond picture since Goldeneye.

But not sure that counts cause it could turn out to be a turkey coming from the screenwriter of star trek nemesis.

The previews make it seem like a Brosnan Bond film only meaner and tailored to Craig with no smart one liners.

THE FUTURE OF CINEMA
Time

captainsolo said:

A increasing number of theaters have their films streamed via satellite to projectors automatically with no one ever in the booth. This combined with the poor projection, lowering of bulb brightness, non-removal of 3D lenses, lack of quality control, and absolutely piss poor sound has signed the death warrant of theatrical exhibition as we know it. Few theaters still have 4K resolution, and even then it is almost always possible to have a better presentation at home with a BD for $10-20.

Absolutely i agree with this statement.  I saw Dark Knight Rises in theaters and it looked like shit, and i am sure the less than twenty dollar blu ray after discount will look considerably better, because they had the projector bulbs dimmed and the picture focus was overly soft.  The music and surrounds muffled as if incorrectly installed or calibrated.  I wanted to go into the booth and punch the fool out who was in charge.

Who should Direct the Star Wars VII, VIII, and IX ?

Quite a few names have been mentioned on the internet.

Not sure if this has already been asked in another thread.

Two names that are already obvious are J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon.

Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson, Matthew Vaughn were also mentioned.

How are they going to get around the DGA situation though is beyond me.

Most of the big name directors are already attached to films for quite a few years to come.  And the less known are probably who will be chosen.

Star Wars - Episode VII - FACTS IN TOP POST
Time

What Bobocop suggests sounds a lot like the back story hinted at in Dark Empire or Crimson Empire both Dark Horse titles.

The del rey books also had a divided empire.  One with Good Imperial reformists like Palleon and the other the moffs who wanted a return to the palpatine days.

I mean really is there anything that they have not done or thought of in star wars fiction.

They did the future with Legacy and The ancient past with Birth of the Jedi.

I don't think any era has not been significantly mapped out at least in the EU that is.  But if you ignore all the EU except what has been adopted into the canon film series you have a lot of room for story development.

That means things like the cartoons, comics, video games even the higher canon clone wars cartoon don't exist.  Only the six films.

Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years
Time

But this is Disney right.  They did not exactly handle Edgar Rice Burroughs or CS Lewis works in a good way.

They did not mess up the Avengers, but i count that a minor miracle and mostly because of Whedon.

But with their real franchise being Marvel projects like Avengers 2 where does star wars fit in?

Disney are also known for revision and rewriting history and altering their films. In some cases for good reasons like removing racism, in others just idiocy and political correctness.

On the other hand they give Pixar a lot of creative leeway, and respect the films of studio ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki.  They did not get in the way of Whedon on Avengers or  Stanton on John Carter.  But they probably should have on John Carter.

Maybe Lucas has a contract with them that allows him to choose a director or writer, or have ultimate say in things. If not why sell Lucasfilm.  As far as i know they were not in financial trouble like after Lucas divorce or Howard the Duck which is probably why those star wars prequels were made.

More star wars films really is not a concern unless it further buries the oot.

As it is i only watch star wars, empire and Jedi.  And the Indiana Jones trilogy there is no new star wars trilogy or Indy 4.

So even if these 3 new movies are utter shit i still have six good movies in the indiana jones and star wars trilogies  Six good movies and seven ones that are shit is not a bad ratio.

Two Words for Disney: PREQUEL REBOOT
Time

The prequels awful little in terms of character development or story.

It was a mistake to make them in the first place if they would not adhere to the already written backstory with the changes of Vader Being the father and Leia the sister.

Luke's story should have been continued and the story brought forward and actually see the characters mature.  Otherwise its just 3 static films.  And Luke never gets a love interest or actually does anything after becoming a jedi.  They just roll credits.

If the prequels had to be made then we should have seen Vader hunting down the Jedi, not leave all the cool bits up to novels and EU merchandising stuff.

Hayden did not look right in the suit he is not tall enough.  David Prowse should have been in there somewhere.

The Lightsaber duels in the prequels were too showy they were ridiculous.  Should have been more like empire strikes back.  The twirling in Sith and i have the high ground come to mind.  As does the bad acting when Hayden says you turned her against me.  and you underestimate my power.

I wish that the Zahn books would be adapted Anchorhead i really do but Lucas does not understand good drama.  He said in the empire 30th doc that nothing happens in that film and that they just stand around.

Kersh got star wars. He understood it was a fairy tale not science fiction.  And he understood the human element.  It does not surprise me that to this day Lucas still does not understand the impact of empire strikes back.

And since initially Jedi made more money Lucas thinks his instincts were right.

Make these movies cheaply and just good enough, they are like the old serials cop out became his manifesto.

Most of 4 Billion going to charity
Time

Lucas pulled a Steve Jobs or a Stan Lee.  Though neither of those two as far as i'm aware was willing to give away their landfall of wealth gained for selling pixar/,marvel.

This is still kind of weird though its like bargaining with Satan to give you worldly riches with the end goal of giving it all to the church, lol.

George is a good man when it comes to charitable giving, but now Disney gets to ruin star wars.
