Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time
can't wait for final fantasy XII it's been delayed more times than i can count. Plus a second edition of mtal gear solid 3 with extras, and the real metal gear 3 which turns out to be 4 the sequel to the sons of liberty with solid snake, not big boss snake. And of course the twilight princess zelda game, kingdom hearts 2, the ultra secret new grand theft auto game, and the movie advent children sequel to final fantasy VII. Halo 3? knights of the old republic 3? fable 2?. I'm even looking forward to the new mario, donkey kong, starfox, and perfect dark games. Maybe a new videogame featuring the original star wars trilogy characters in the expanded universe like, new jedi order.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
wait for november first then take all the deleted scenes off the second bonus disk, to make a fan edit of episode III. As not all the scenes for episode I and II were released i'm not holding my breath. Lucas won't release the cut scenes for the original trilogy either. Knowing some fan would probalbly alter his vision by making a longer cut of the film by restoring the deleted scenes, or take out all the useless cgi garbage.

V for ...
Time
V for vendetta should be either a great film, or another catatrophic plop in the toilet. With the creators of the matrix doing it however, and natalie portman being in it i'm hoping it will be good. What I would really like to see would be luc besson make the prefessional 2 and natalie should star in that.

Piracy not to blame in decline of moviegoers
Time
The quality of movies has gone done hill over time, lack of creativity or originality. High ticket prices, the advent of dvd, piracy and other factors are to blame. A survey done by entertainment weekly said Parents want more family fare, people want lower prices and no television ads before the previews. Most movies are classified as killing movies, cheapy horror movies, shoot em up sex movies, and a whole load of bullshit. PLus don't forget videogame style cgiied to death movies.

Brosnan is no longer Bond, Daniel Craig is now Bond.
Time
the studio type's wrecked another good thing by trying to save money. Just like cancelling enterprise. Just like Lucas not doing the sequels to star wars because a new cast would be cheaper. Whatever fag they pick to be the new bond i won't go to see, they already screwed over sean connery and now brosnan. who said bond had to be a perpetual 30 something, it would've been interesting to see adventures with a aged james bond who came out of retirement for one last hurrah. By the way Casino Royale was the very first bond novel written by ian fleming, and originally serialized in magazines not a novel to begin with but edited that way later. Of course hollywood has gone too far with the new prequels thing, star wars, the new star trek coming out in 2007, batman begins, they even made a prequel to dumb and dumber without jim carrey that sucked. The only prequels i really like are Revenge of The Sith (only parts of it) enterprise, and the silmarillion and the hobbit which are prequels to thr rings trilogy but have not been made yet into movies. Harve Bennet's Prequel idea for star trek Vi that got cancelled eventually got used in the game starfleet academy.

Flash Gordon Rumor - now a 'general discussion' thread for Flash Gordon
Time
the new flash gordon has been in development hell since the late 90's as well as the new buck rogers movie. others film in development hell are Jack Kirby's the new gods, John Carter of Mars, and Star Blazers. Still there are plenty of good science fiction books/fantasy books that would make good films. Sure they finally made I robot but it was not faithful to the asimov novel, Imagine hollywood taking a cerebral story and making an action film out of it. Why could'nt they just Have shot the script that asimov put together with ralph macquarrie as conceptual designer?
X men 2 is the best comic book movie of all time, next to the first superman film. One of the most underated comic book movies is the crow based on the works of Jay o"barr. The studios are planning to make neil gaiman's sandman into a movie, and They still are talking about ender's game the science fiction novel by orson scott card. The Fantastic Four movie failed miserably why could'nt they just have followed kirby's original story? They were able to get the kirby and claremont stuff into the xmen movies. Hell there are literary classics being made into films, like beowulf and gilgamesh, and they still have'nt made a movie based on the odyssey for the big screen, troy and alexander sucked. i still would like to see the live action evangelion movie from Weta, and the rest of tolkien books made into a film the hobbit and the silmarillion. There going to make a series of narnia movies if the first one is sucessful, in fact since the new charlie in the chocolate factory was so sucessful they are doing a remake of the classic the wizard of oz. I would like for Terry Brooks shannara series made into films, or magic kindom series. Or even Robert Jordan's wheel of time, terry goodkind's sword of truth, or george r.r. martin's a song of fire and ice series. And what about the foundation trilogy by asimov?

Military laser brings 'Star Wars' reality closer
Time
the u.s. gov. has only ever funded the space program becuase of their interest in space based weaponry, not for humanitarian reasons or exploration. Notice how after the cold war space race, how all of that funding dried up, the shuttle program is nearly 30 years old for god's sake. Space weapon satellites for the sole purpose of nuclear warfare. Although a laser would be good for defense but we all know the scientists won't just stop there, they will make even more deadly weapons to kill their fellow man. As a race were doomed if we continue with this kind of thinking. Just think of the countless billions of dollars being spent on the iraq war, could be used to finding a cure for cancer, to find a new fuel source to end the energy crisis, or even space exploration. I know your talking about deploying the laser on a plane but i'm talking about reagon and the strategic defense initiative or sdi for short, which reagon and bush sr. tried to put into action but was never actually built and billions spent, or so the government says, who nows if they have a working prototype. It scares the hell out of me though when we have madmen on both sides, both thinking their right in god's eyes on the nuclear button. We need to have leaders who respect human life, not just looking for a war excuse, although the taliban had what was coming to them. But we should not stoop to their level of depravity when we can make smart and informed decisions, and proceed wisely and intelligently.

Poll: who is hotter. Padme or Princess Leia
Time
natalie portman is way hotter than carrie fisher now, if she looked like she did back in the day it would be a closer tie, but i'd still go with natalie because she is a much cooler person. I know, fan boy idiotic drivel, but that's what most of the posts on star wars on the internet are. No wonder why star wars fans get picked on for being too nerdy to get girls.

Who are your 25 most valuable people to the Star Wars films?
Time
1. J.R.R. Tolkien (The hobbit, the lord of the rings, the silmarillion)
2. E.E. "Doc' Smith (Lensman Novels, skylark of space novels)
3. Edgar Rice Burroughs ( Tarzan, and martian tales)
4. Frank Herbert (dune saga)
5. Isaac Asimov ( foundation trilogy, I robot, empire series )
6. Edmond Hamilton "the husband of leigh brackett"
7. Alex Raymond (Flash Gordon)
8. Joseph Campbell (The Hero with a thousand faces)
9. Hans Christian anderson
10. and the brothers grimm (fairy tales)
11. Gene Roddenberry ( creator of star trek) george lucas was a fan of the original series when at usc, a little known fact to all you star trek haters out there.
all of these writers are the most valuable considering lucas "borrowed" ideas from them, since i don't want to say steal because we would'nt want to be politically incorrect now would we. Without them star wars could not exist.

The Indiana Jones Project (Released)
Time
quote "They were from a guy that called himself Maxiuca - he was talking about doing a proper telecine of a ROTJ film print and also a 16mm SW doco. I must try to back in contact with him" I new this guy from ebay when he was registered under the name mnobic, and also his maxiuca site which is no longer working. Also he no longer returns my e-mails, he was a good friend of mine in the past, selling me rare and hard to find star wars dvd stuff and he lived in warsaw poland. he was going to give me one of the first digital telecine dvdr copies of that jedi print and the a new hope documentary, and he was looking for people to help him with info on the making of the films because he wanted someone to make a fan audio commentary, and said i would help write some thing up having bought alot of the behind the scenes magazines and books off of ebay. He asked me to do the audio commentary but i don't have the equipment or knowledge how to record one, no hi speed internet access or digital audio or dvd rom drive. Plus he said he have to sell way more stuff on ebay or help getting funding from star wars fans, and directed him to get in touch with the boards at originaltrilogy.com but i guess he did'nt. I know alot of you guys are savvy knowledge wise and could have done a great commentary. he was trying to get prints for all three 16mm original versions of the films, and i kept an eye out for him telling him about some of the ones off of ebay. Both of us tryed and tryed to find a print of a pre new hope star wars with the monaural soundtrack, but no chance. He wanted to do the all of the original trilogy as newly recorded fan audio commentaries, since there was only little bits on the definitive laserdisc release, not a enough for the whole films. i know their is a whole lot of audio and video clips out their but editing them all together and making them seamless would be a chore. I reminded him of the audio snipets in the behind the magic cd rom disc two under the scene by scene sections, but some of the audio material came from the same as the definitive laserdisc release. Also at the time he even considered getting a hold of the dr. gonzo set, since their was no tr 47 or anything else as good at the time, and scrap doing at the efford of a transfer. But i was aware that some star wars fan helped by donating the print of jedi, and defray some of the cost. This guys laserdisc collection is awesome, he has nearly every pal, ntsc, or english or international version of star wars on laserdisc and some very rare disney titles or most of them. He even accuired all of the indy documentaries from a guy in the u.k. and other rare star wars stuff.
