what about the original untoyed around with thx 1138 or american graffiti, did these ever get done on these boards. Also what about the original version of willow. Thanks. I too would like to see a quality dvd rip of howard the duck from laserdisc, but it would have to be full frame because no anamorphic or letterbox home video version exists. Unless we ever see an official release, but that is as slim as the star wars holiday special, or the original versions of star wars on dvd. Maybe so fan out there has a theater print that could be telecined, who knows?

it's funny that lucas claims to be a film preservationist yet won't ever release teh originals again. These are the films a new hope and empire on the afi list, not the special editions. The very first star wars made 400 million domestically in it's first release in the u.s. and in 1977 dollars, i doubt any film could do this in today's dollars.

i was asking for somebody else to take the reins, because i don't have the resources or knowledge on how to do this. I have a really old crappy computer with no dvd rom or dvd burning and i have no laserdisc player or capture equipment, or the laserdiscs. I thought someone on these forums might be able to do it. I know rikter use to trade the discs for caravan of courage or battle for endor, but has ceased doing so because of the official release. Rik if your out there if those discs you were offering before were good quality, could they be used in a restoration project?

Anyone know what the quality is on the laserdiscs and vhs tapes, as i have the recent dvd release, and their are parts of the two features that have wonderful video quality and then it drops out in places where the video quality is poor. Any way for a fan to do a remaster using all the available formats? If not I hope lucasfilm will digitally remaster the both of them, and do a 5.1 soundtrack. If you viewed the laserdiscs ripped to dvd verses the official release would the picture quality differ, i am asking this because at one point the fan preservations were available and are not now. I think these 2 little gems of films deserve just as much as the other star wars projects to be preserved. Does anyone have the theatrical trailers, they were not on the official release. Were they on any of the laserdiscs?

I originally posted this in general star wars discussion but since no one has read that thread, the one where codester asked what to include on the bonus disc. Here goes:

how about the original overseas theatrical trailers for an ewok adventure: Caravan of Courage, and the battle for endor shown in theaters on the big screen (only internationallly just like these shows were. One time a guy was selling them on ebay as film reel trailers in widescreen, which these trailers were. Never seen them so don't know if it was fake cropped widescreen, i know they were shot on 35mm film in fullscreen. Don't know if there is anyplace online they can be downloaded.

um, how about screw the prequels and special editions, and further versions. How about the true original unaltered star wars trilogy fully digitally remastered and restored in high definition, without all that horrible changes and cgi garbage, and the deleted scenes released from the lucasfilm vaults. Knowing how lucas is won't happen though, but it is my hope this will happen someday. I hope the legacy of the true star wars trilogy and star wars fans will prevail, and lucas can be turned back to the good side.

Phantom Menace. This is comparing it to the other star wars movies though, i seen many worse movies. The podrace was awesome, and the lightsaber duel with maul is still my favorite because ray park is the only martial artist actually in a lightsaber duel. My two favorite villains would have to be maul and fett and they both met untimely deaths, but somehow jar jar survives the entire saga. and i still think Return of the jedi would've been a better movie is kersh and kurtz were involved, sure theres still some good bits in there but it would've been a more adult film. Besides the fact that you could tell things were sloppily rushed and ends tied up, when originally it would've taken two trilogies to tell luke's story, four films were compressed into one. The film ended up being kiddieized and turned into a movie with teddy bears. I was lost thinking this is star wars not a carebear movie.

The star wars prequels, special editions, extra special edition 2004, and ultra super duper 2007 special editions.

reality television, retarded studio types who cancel good sci fi shows like enterprise to show britney spear reality show. Again Retarded studio types who thought it would be cool to make nemesis and ruin star trek the next generation franchise, and studio types who thought firing pierce brosnan as bond would be a good choice. Casino Royale should be boycotted by true bond fans, and Brannon and Braga, ronald moore and rick berman should'nt be allowed to work in sci fi again. ALL THE P'MOUNT suits who like berman should be fired, same for those who had enterprise cancelled just when the show became good. The roddenberry family should get back the rights to the franchise, if star trek can ever be saved. I hate " the man reponsible for everything" for ruining star wars and not making 7-9. I hate that Peter Jackson decided to do king kong, instead of the hobbit, and i hate thAT INDIANA JONES 4 is taking so friggin long.

other than the messed up sound on star wars, my biggest complaint obout the '04 version is the f****uped lightsabers and the garbage mattes, the black boxes you can see around tie fighters, and the speeder bikes in return of the jedi. They spend millions of dollars adding new cgi but could'nt fix this with their lousy computers, also the colors are all screwed up to try to match the prequels. Oh yeah, and lucas added jar jar and hayden to jedi. Greedo still shoots first nOOOOOOOOO!!!

why not just rip the 1992 audio and sync it up with one of the widescreen/letterbox transfers, as the 1992 release was fullscreen. Like either use definitive collection, or faces. and use the 1992 sound mix. There are tons of projects out there of course star wars super 8mm, star wars beta tape, and those things that look like laserdiscs but are not capicitance discs.

Theres also the Beowulf filmed completely in iceland, which will probably never a u.s. release most faithful to the material, also "cringe" beowulf directed by robert zemechis. There's also Gilgamesh, a big budget epic based on the sumerian/mesomatamian epic poem. Speaking of beowulf, still waiting for michael drout to publish his editing of tolkien's translation of the poem. Another movie that supposed to be made star trek 11, and edgar rice burroughs a princess of mars. James Bond Casino Royale, without Pierce Brosnan. Currently in development hell "The Hobbit" not even listed on internet movie database.

um, george is not a very good writer. He had Williard Huyck and Gloria Katz help him on the first screenplay, and lawrence kasden pretty much wrote all of empire and jedi. He comes up with the story concept technical details in the script like camera moves etc., but he is a terrible writer, but he is a great visual storyteller avante garde filmaker. Carrie Fisher was the script doctor on the Phantom Menace, and Jonathan Hales who wrote several scripts for young indy helped with attack of the clones. Lucas reportedly wrote revenge all by himself, and when you watch the film you can see the results of this. If you read the Matthew Stover Novelization you really wish other than getting into the chracters heads, it would've been great if they filmed that. Although much darker than the film, it would've gotten An R rating and not made as much money, but would have been a better film. Just like Terry Brooks Novelization is better than the phantom menace film, and also attack of the clones by r.a. salvatore was better than the film. Lucas even had help with the opening scrawl of the first star wars, spielberg, depalma, scorcese helped him rewrite it so it was coherant. Even Coppola helped lucas with some of the first drafts of star wars, just like he did for thx 1138 and american graffiti.
