For Sale: Star Wars 1977 First Reel to Reel soundtrack George Lucas ATTENTION!!! - $200
Time
This was a rare send away for those who purchased a Teac reel to reel machine in the late seventies.

I have two copies one played and in pretty poor condition, and One with the reels unused with the tabs still on them and stored perfectly for almost thirty years.

The guy Originally wanted 500.00 dollars for it, but He brought the price down to 250.00 so I bought it. I think the guy calls himself tahoe toys, being a toy seller of star wars figs, and transformers etc.

The pretty heavily used one was 65.00 bucks from Cloudcity.com so I guess you get what you pay for.

I've seen other one's still in their original mailing box go for a lot of money, still none of them have appeared on the market as unopened.

There are some rare radio ad reels for star wars, and the empire strikes back interview reels or lp are out there if that is what you mean by radio stations.

Idea & Info: star trek the motion picture - preservation
Time
I'd like to see theatrical anamorphic versions of Star trek II, and VI.

I have the two disc ones and i hate the changes nick meyer made for his director's editions.

There is the bare bones earlier dvd release of the two films but are they anamorphic or are they even in the original aspect ratio?

Then there are different releases on LD of full screen versions of the films 1-6

which laserdiscs feature the stereo tracks, or digital surround sound?

X-Men: the animated series (1992-1997) (Released)
Time
Was not this Cartoon based on Jim Lee's anime esque X- men comic?

I know the movies are based on the Claremont Re-Imagining trying to keep as much of Kirby as possible?

I loved this cartoon back in the day, and Gambit was one of my favorite characters and I was pissed when he was not in the movies. I always loved the animated styling of Wolverine and Rogue as well.

Info & Offer: 1984 CBS Star Wars - could it be of any help to anyone?
Time
Russ did you ever consider writing something about all the different versions and posting it, or including it on a dvd release like starkiller did?

Does anybody here have the two versions of the trilogy as shown on SCI-FI network back in the day when it was a pay channel?

One was hosted BY Carrie Fisher and the other Mr. Billy Dee Williams.

The first t.v. broadcast had Mark Hamill, I think. on regular t.v.

Does anybody have the versions shown on Home Box Office or better known as HBO. I remember that there was something different in Return of the Jedi when I first saw it there.

Info Wanted: Akira Criterion - has anyone done a preservation of this?
Time
Any updates?

I have accquired Both Criterion releases, and the Japan Special Collection. Is the original u.s. dub on any of them, or do I need to track down the first VHS release.

Also, before anime actually came stateside my cousin had a friend who had a UN-official fansub of akira, which was the theatrical version. Wish I knew who owned a copy of that one.

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (Released)
Time
I absolutely love the criterion transfers they are absolutely tops!, film grain and all wow!

I felt like i was actually watching real movies not artificially/ digitally cleaned up versions.

The commentary rocks also.

Why criterion never released these on dvd , and cancelled and recalled the initial release On LD and substituted it with a Censored commentary one wonders, why?

And why In the hell did they not have a commentary by Sean Connery?

I also really wish criterion took as much care in the presentation of there dvd's as they did the former laser releases. Japan for instance has much cleaner dvd versions of Kurosawa's films. And plus they lost a lot of rights to movies they had only been licensed for LD, and not dvd as argued by the companies that licensed them out originally in court. We obviously know who won, and it was'nt criterion. Although generally they have been able to keep the rights on the commentary tracks for the same film companies have to pay them to use them on dvd releases.

Idea: for an edit of Batman Begins
Time
I still feel that it needs to be re-edited to fit as a prequel to the first batman film by Tim Burton,

I really wish he had done the sequel he was planning on doing with Val Kilmer or Michael Keaton, that would've been better.

What all this let's kill a franchise and revive it happening in the last decade, first star wars, then star trek, then batman and now James Bond need I say more?

Besides the utter ridiculousness of A rocky VI, after a sucky V.

My fave Batman Films are :

1. Mask Of the Phantasm (Mark Hamill as the JOker!)
2. Batman : Return of The Joker
3. Batman (Tim Burton)
( The original animated series that was styled after film noir and Anime would top all but was not a film series)

Batman Continues should be About the Joker and batman's first meeting this being a new series obviously, and Mark Hamill in Heavy Makeup Could make a hilarious and terrifying Joker. Was that part he played in Jay and silent BOb a riff on that part he played in the animated series?

The Indiana Jones Project (Released)
Time
speaking of the sound mix on the official dvd release of indiana jones trilogy, I was looking at the box today and there is no stereo mix just 5.1, unless someone does a preservation I will be buying a laserdisc player to watch the original versions film grain and all, Including the so called removal of mistakes.

The dvd's we have now are not the versions I watched when I was a kid, those were full frame transfers on Vhs, and neither are they identical to the first theatrical releases.

There really should be a preservation similar to what Russ has done for star wars

by making many of the different versions and sound mixes available, Like the Cav Versions of Star wars and empire strikes back.

By the way, there are Cav full screen versions for both raiders and temple of doom, but not last crusade.

Isomix versions with the full soundtracks with unreleased tracks would also be really cool,

And maybe even the story of Raiders of the Lost ark LP produced exclusively for records by ben burtt!

I know i'm probalbly absolutely in the minority here, but I have always prefered films in stereophonic sound to dolby 5.1, especially if that is how they were filmed or recorded, rather than artificially created after the fact 30 years later. Although 5.1 and 6.1 and 7.1 are viable now, and create better spacialization stereo tracks should be included on releases, (also known as dolby 2.0) or better yet Pcm Stereo uncompressed!

The official star wars dvd release that everyone absolutely hates at least had the common sense to include them, it's very puzzling?

and furthermore just like the star wars trilogy release no deleted scenes or the original documentaries GRRR!

In fact so many of my favorite films have been butchered on dvd, that a laserdisc player is almost absolutely necessary to back up some of them for my private little collection. I have no hope that the studios will ever get anything right with classic films or older releases, even with blu ray or HD-DVD will we ever get anything close to the definitive edition transfer of star wars. Nope we won't, we will get lucas so called third draft or fourth draft versions of his super duper edition re-edits crap versions, and even better (Sarcasm People) Special Editions of the prequels oh joy!

and that's just the tip of the iceberg I was reading Droid maker and can you believe what they tried to pull on Tom Holman ( Creator and original Engineer of The THX sound system) when he left the company, read the book and you will see what I mean.

Evangelion anime Project (Released)
Time
would love to see this!

this is in my opinion one of the great animes of all time, if not the greatest.

The compression on the dvd's audio according to some sites though says are not As good as the re-issued laser disc box set or movie box set. If I had the equipment i would definetely do transfers of the lasers.

In fact there are a lot of anime laserdiscs that need preservation being as the dvd releases are inferior in most cases or changes have been made.
