Idea: Another Star Trek Phase 2 idea
Time
how many of the actual phase II scripts were made into next generation episodes.

By the way william Riker and william Decker and ilia and troi are too similar to just be a co-insidance.

There is some test footage of phase II on the second disc on the star trek I director's edition, don't know how much of the actual pilot was shot though I think only temp footage scripts and storyboards and audition tapes for Xon exist.

The future of trek would've been entirely different without spock, and the possibility of kirk being written off of the show with decker as the captain of the second five year mission would've been weird.

Idea & Info: star trek the motion picture - preservation
Time
any one going to preserve the special longer pan and scan version from laserdisc?

According to some sources this is taken from a television cut of the film for networks as prepared by paramount.

don't know if this is the one that was on abc or nbc? or cbs? when it was world premiered on the tube.

The theatrical version i have transfered from the laserdisc by someone on these boards is of very dubious quality.

I do not know if this is because of the source laserdisc used the equipment or if the person does'nt know how to capture something properly. the pcm sound was tops though, great scoe by goldsmith!

Personally I'd like to see the theatrical widescreen cut in dvd quality on a dual layer disc. I do not know if the official dvd could be used to re-cobble together that cut. with the full bit rate pcm of course.

I also wish the same could be done for star trek II and VI with the full bit rate pcm. I took the bare bones release of these 2 out of the library and it appeard they were taken from the laserdisc master, and they were single layer and had bad artifacting unlike the LD.

Plus i wish someone would preserve all six original trek movies from the full screen laserdisc versions for notalgia sake, since this is the way I saw them on t.v. and vhs back in the day. Plus they are not available on dvd in full frame versions as far as I know. plus the full frame lasers have the original stereo tracks and not the dolby surround.

If I was going to do a laserdisc preservation of star trek II i would have the Ld episode of Space seed as a bonus.

.: Moth3r's PAL DVD project :.
Time
Moth3r just wanted to say I think your Pal dvd set is exceptional.

The transfer and image is much sharper than the ntsc transfers.

The only thing is I live in the u.s. and hate pal speed up, but Your transfer of the LD is the best one i've seen yet.

Too bad there is not a similar transfer From a native NTSC source, and I don't mean re-inventing the wheel because that is pal transfered over to ntsc.

Your set is a bit dark in places but, out of all the preservation/versions out there it is the only one that comes close to the offcial dvd release in terms of quality.

Yes ocpmovie's set is nice but the color is a bit garish in places and overly bright because of being taken from the official dvd release. Too bad they did such a bad Job color correcting the 2004 release, and messing up the soundtrack on a new hope. If they fixed those issues as well as omitted the new cgi form 1997-2004 we would have a near perfect release, as long as they fixed the bad mattes and other glaring issues that are present.

Darth Solo would you mind posting hi-rez versions of your covers in this thread or the cover release thread?

The Official babyhum Release Thread
Time
most of the documentaries that were shown in the U.K. only were of exceptional quality, like the omnibus specials, the big breakfast and GMTV during the release of the special edition. Also the doc they made on episode 1 was awesome, The story of star wars.

Feel the force re-cycles a lot of material from previous interviews or is the same stories being told by people like mark hamill, I still like it though.

have yet to see generation jedi but hear it is a good one too.

Episode II from Az was also really neat when I first watched it.

J.J. abrams to helm Star trek Prequel
Time
They want it done in time for the christmas 2008 movie season.

They (paramount) have dropped Nicholas Meyer as director and the Earth vs. romulan wars plotline in favor of a film set in the academy days of Kirk and spock. They wanted abrams becasue they liked the job he did on MI:3, and also like his shows alias and Lost.

They have yet to announce the actors or any possible candidates for the roles of James T. Kirk or Mr. Spock.

Obviously shatner and nimoy are too old.

when i read the headline it was about another original star trek movie, but then after reading the article i realized it was a prequel and not a return of the original crew.

Anyway, the doctor and scotty being dead theres only the rest of them still alive.

Idea: babyhum's proposed new <strong>Studio Ghibli</strong> project (* unfinished project *)
Time
any updates on your fine project Babyhum?, ghibli rules!

By the way speaking of Lensman there is also a Japan laserdisc collection of episodes of a series, which I think was condensed for the movie version which is also available in japan on LD.

There is an official U.S. Release on LD, which Is a rare find on ebay whenever it appears, i think i is a streamline pictures release not sure though.

I to can think of many anime LD's that need preservation mainly for their superior audio and features.

There are 2 different criterion versions of akira, which I own

the ghibli box set which I own which only goes to the year 1995

the princess mononoke laserdisc which I also own.

Plus the evangelion japan laserdiscs.

I wish someone would also preserve the project a-ko letterbox LD

and the original streamline dubs of the dirty pair features.

I also have Final Yamato LD letterbox
and Be forever Yamato fullscreen LD with the stereo soundtrack.

Lightsaber Goofs...
Time
my most hated lightsaber goof of all time is vader's pink bubblegum lightsaber in the 2004 dvd's. Not crimson Red like it's supposed to be.

another one is the one that has always been in return of the jedi because of a deleted scene, Luke's lightsaber Being attached to vader's belt after he threw it away and then suddenly it is in Luke's hand without even a force grab to get it off his belt.

Watched Star Trek II on HBO the other day, what a difference in effects compared to the OT!
Time
Star Trek II is better than the sci-fi films coming out today,

just because there is no modern 21st century cg, does not make it a bad film.

If they ever add cg to wrath of Khan, it would be as rediculous as the star wars special editions with effects from 2 time different time periods.

Re-do's of effects on classic sci-fi films never work and should not be done unless the movie sucks so bad it would definetely need it. Like Star trek V for example, that could defintely use some new effects.

I hate how fake all of todays films look, how horribly overblown all the cgi effects are in them.

worst offenders:

peter jackson's king kong

star wars prequel trilogy

Lord of the rings trilogy

Star wars 2004 and 1997 Lucasized cg crapped on versions

A &quot;Star Wars&quot; reference I'd love to see on &quot;24&quot;
Time

Quote:

"You know. I've never seen 24 before.
I used to think it was a science fiction show in which the basic plot is:

There is a time machine that can send someone back in time exactly 24 hours from our current start point. No more, no less. Jack works for the government and constantly goes back in time to save people, prime ministers, presidents, buildings, and various other things that can be destroied if not for the magical time machine. Every episode starts out with something horrible happening, and then Jack goes back in time to try and stop it before time catches up with him."

perfectly describes the show Seven Days which starred Jonathan Lapaglia, which has yet to come out on dvd.

They released star trek enterprise, seaquest, earth 2, space above and beyond and sliders to dvd so why not seven days?

another sci fi show I think should be on dvd is Nowhere Man

Legacy Comics series Revealed in star wars Insider
Time
It is set about a hundred years after Legacy of the Jedi story arc from Del Rey.

There is a new Empire and a new sith Order, as well as a new skywalker.

The new Skywalker character is Cade Skywalker, He looks sort of like a cross between anakin skywalker and luke skywalker. No word yet on his relation to the skywalker clan, is he supposed to be descended from Ben Skywalker?, or did Luke and Mara have more children?

what do other star wars EU fans think?

At first I was hoping it was an april fools joke.

and furthermore the Dark Nest Trilogy was rather Lackluster with some good points/ moments

will The legacy of the Jedi series of Novels bring back the EU star wars we all know and love, or will it be more rewriting of the saga/tying in with the prequels crap?

Info Wanted: Episode II on HBO in HD &amp; Alternate Versions
Time
getting any of the star wars films on HD is as illusive as accquiring the HD broadcasts of lord of the rings films.

Until like 2007 when the blu ray Lucasized versions are released as a six movie set or individually.

Defininetely looking forward to the HD version of Peter Jackson's King Kong, or if he decides to revisit the rings trilogy in HD!

Special Collection : UnSubbed Edition (Completed)
Time
For some reason the Japan Special collection set has much nicer colors than the other laserdisc sets and less denoising of the image. The first u.s. domestic widescreen set was derived from the same master, but the transfer is less nice than the japan release, very odd.

Can't wait to see what you've accomplished here with these Laserdiscs,

If it's anything like your first version you did with segaflip but without the subtitles and centered better on screen, than this should be the best Ntsc transfer period. aleast until the XO project is completed sometime in our lifetimes.

Idea: babyhum's proposed new <strong>Studio Ghibli</strong> project (* unfinished project *)
Time
just wanted to say Disney messed up again with their new totoro dub, good thing the region 2 release has the same audio track from the fox video dvd release and in widescreen!

plus the Japan release of Howl's moving castle I have is four discs!, disney 2 disc a shame.

I have heard the the american release has higher image quality, but without the old dub. too bad we can't have a perfect edition, the new transfer with the old dub , a much needed preservation project. I'll just go and buy the region 2 dvd. In fact i think i'll pretty much stick with buying region 2 anime releases becuase they are always better than the botched u.s. editions, even without the subtitles.

Don't know if they messed up whisper of the heart too, if they did I'll have to get the region 2 of that as well.

Idea: Fan Edit of ROTJ
Time
would'nt changing Luke's Saber to blue be like changing vader's blue saber to red in revenge of the sith?

One edit I want to see:

"Revenge of the Jedi"

The overall feel of the film would have to be darkened somewhat, and it would have to be re-edited so Luke sets out to kill vader and have his Revenge.

all the silly muppet footage and ewok stuff would have to go too!

Wanted: Radio Dramas on CD...
Time
unfortunetely you will have to buy both collector's editions if you want all the extras.

the first limited edition was only star wars and empire and had radio ads by threepio and the making of radio drama. this was limited to 5000 copies only and is harder to find now. the coolest part is mark hamill interview in the making of segment.

the limited edition trilogy had only return of the jedi supplements. it was limited to 7,500 numbered copies
