//RETURNING TO JEDI\\: NTSC & PAL DVD
Time
so what is the list of the materials you've used so far?

Alternate angles from trailers, deleted scenes from trailers, novelization, comic book, radio drama etc.

T'bone's star wars universe has a lot of good pics on jedi, plus he has links to gregs rossiter's site which has a lot of them.

I recommend the illustrated edition of return of the Jedi novelization as it has the same storyboard posted on t'bones site that has Luke making his new saber, and of course art of return of the jedi and best of the lucasfilm archives.

Hyperspace has a lot of design concepts for jedi but I don't know if you can use that stuff unless you get permission from lucas and co.

Then there is that interview with Richard Marquand from NPR.

the one unfortunate thing is that the shooting script has never surfaced, The "real" third draft script written by Lucas, only bits and pieces are published in making of return of the jedi, and annotated screenplays.

draft variations article posted here: http://www.starwarz.com/starkiller/writings/draft_variations_roj.htm

revised rough draft posted here: http://www.starwarz.com/starkiller/scripts.htm

X-Men 3
Time
yeah but that broccoli woman said he was not manly enough to be bond so they picked a blonde reject to play him.

I think pierce brosnan was good for at least one to two more pictures.

On X-3 i don't like how the director who did the first 2 is not onboard and david hayter is not the screenwriter on this one, I think it will suck in comparison to X-2 which is definetely one of the best comics movies of all time.

The title is also stupid : The Last Stand? huh then why is there an X-4?

And dr. frasier crane in blue makeup as the beast is superbly laughable!

Hey at least Hugh Jackman is in it, as well as Captain Picard and Gandalf.

Star Wars in High Definition: OT clips from "Science of Star Wars" in HD
Time
In the future if the price comes down i will buy blu ray since that the one fox is supporting and will have full uncompressed pcm sound. it may be a few years down the road but star wars will be for blu ray most likely because of lucas relationship with fox. on the other hand the uber ultimate star trek motion picture box set I saw on amazon.com is going to be on HD-DVD.

too bad they could'nt come to a compromise and have a hybrid unit because I sure as hell will not buy 2 seperate units to watch my favorite films, but unless something happens down the road looks like us film fanatics will have to bite the bullet and buy them both.

Xmen will be for blu ray,

still no word on which system will have lord of the rings or king kong, which is new line/universal/weta supporting.

It's about time we have the best of both worlds people have been talking about for awhile now laserdisc quality sound and dvd picture merged, only worlds better. No more crap compressed movies or soundtracks now that will change the home theater experience.

who knows what will happen in the eighties Lucas put star wars on both betamax and Vhs and we all know which format won that one. maybe he will support both because of the cash benefit. Unless he's some sort of person who can see into the future and knows which will win.

Criterion Collection: Adventures of Baron Munchausen & The Fisher King (Released)
Time
"Criterion did release RoboCop and Chasing Amy onto DVD. Although RoboCop is now out of print and Chasing Amy I believe is still in print though."

consider me corrected on these 2 then.

but did they have all the same documentary or special features commentary as the laserdisc?

I still believe there are a great deal of releases not on dvd and some never will be because of obvious rights wrangling in hollywood.

Apocalypse Now - Workprint (now available) (Released)
Time
if someone could take the best version from subcin which is on 3 single layers and put it on maybe 1 0r 2 dual layer discs it would be great.

Or maybe even someone could track the the vhs source used to master it and someone on these boards could do a reel good quality transfer of it.

this really should be known as the Coppola Roughcut or producers's cut because it was probalbly taken from a vhs dupe of one of the video masters and given to some producer on the film.

What I really would like to see is a comp of the Lucas/Milius script with the documentary and the Vietnam chopper footage from more american graffiti to show what his vision would have been. Maybe even a fan documentary could pan away from the script and comp in The Scenes that were put in return of the jedi with the ewok's against the imperials to show a bit of the flavor of his original vision of the little guy triumphing over the machine.

Too bad he never made it because it would've been brilliant directed by Lucas, co written by milius produced by Coppola, and the sound mix was going to be done by Walter Murch. Lucas probalbly would
have done what he did with graffiti and his friend later did with forest gump on the music part of it.

Info: The LID Project: Laserdisc is dead.
Time
it's supposed to be a reference to 1984 I think by george orwell.

but I think it's was 2+2=6 or am I wrong?

And for all of us who don't own HD tv's laserdisc will be the best format because of the pcm audio and the not badly compressed picture of dvd.

Besides the fact that every cinephile and audiophile I know own's a laserdisc player, heck they probalbly own record players too I know I do.

The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!
Time
how about the fact that the same usa today article you mentioned says they will be sold separetely not in a box set, and be 30.00 each totaling a 90.00 price tag for all three.

We who have the 2004 versions we should not have to buy them again, some people already bought both the 4 disc and 3 disc 2004-2005 sets and will not want them a second or third time over, but will have to just get the originals.

not only is this tripple dipping but the price could be cut in hald if we could buy the originals only, not only that but the promised future releases with the deleted scenes etc. are not being offered these are bare bones releases.

There are probalbly only a few scenes minutes in each film that have not been remastered for the 1997 or 2004 release, but they have at least 90 to 95% of the job already done, they would just have to restore those few scenes that were not restored for the 1997 or 2004 release. and it would not cost millions like lucas has said to clean up a few scenes.

basically what they are offering is the same laserdisc master as the definitive collection/Faces releases

in spite of the fact that they did not use these masters for the 1997 re-issue or dvd release because of so called artifacting.

Some of the worst official dvd releases out there for movies have simply been laser masters dumped onto dvd with no care involved.

Star Wars books and summer sunsets
Time
Thrawn trilogy

Outbound flight

all three stover novels:

Traitor

shatterpoint

revenge of the sith

brian daley's Han solo adventures trilogy

the rogue squadron books are some of the best star wars novels imho, not the ones by allston though

the republic commando books are some of the best realistic military sci-fi out there

imho the best current EU stories happen to be in Dark horse comics, and the kotor series. too bad no kotor books.

ITS HAPPENED-- OOT AVAILABLE FROM LUCASFILM
Time
is this supposed to be George finally coming back from the dark side?

Is so does this actually mean if fans put enough pressure on him he will make episodes 7-9, or at least episode 7 to end cap the series.

I can't friggin wait man!

By the way does this mean the 2004 version on the same set will be fixed?, and that we will see a remastered blu ray release of the oot in the future?

Hopefully, this is not a very bad and late april fools Joke, and we will all wake up tomorrow to find that we were all played.

Help: looking for... Droids and Ewoks animated tv series preservation attempt
Time
from time to time the original tapes show up on ebay.

I do not know if they ever released all of the episodes in the u.s.a. in ntsc,

but in the u.k. there are a boat load of tapes they are pal of course and hard to track down.

But the pal source would be of better preservation quality, only if you want to be free of pal speedup you would have to fix it afterwords.

Unless of course the word could go out to people who might have taped them on high quality beta, in ntsc.

They showed them on cartoon network once upon a time, don't know if they made changes.

I too wish there was a complete official collection of the nelvana animated stuff, including the animated boba fett cartoon from the holiday special.

The one tape i have seen from u.k. ebay sellers is pirates and the prince original episodes, and the great heep the droids movie.
