The Matrix
Time
i could'nt stop laughing at the first matrix movie at how silly it was and how serious it took itself, am i the only one who thought Keanu reeves was playing bill and ted, whoah, excellent!, lol

the second and the third were merely displays on cgi expense and technique, and shall we say a phantom plot?

lets mix future noir cyber punk, anime and kung fu and christianity as into one confusing experience, that really sums it all up to me.

Was it me or was this another film series trying to ape Blade Runner, and the works of Phillip K Dick and his comtemporaries.

it was all very much like the novels of armitage which was made into an anime, and ghost in the shell.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Time
can you beleive there is an extended version of the first tird of a film coming to dvd?

on top of that marvel is releasing a steelbook special edition of X-2: X-men united.

double and triple dip fun begins anew, i even heard that there will be an extended cut of ghost rider on top of the bare bones dvd release.

add in the new spiderman 2.1 and they are just flooding the market and gouging.

they better not mess up ff 2: rise of the silver surfer because they will ruin 2 film franchises with the cast of one stone, both beloved works of the late Jack"king" Kirby.

they cheaped out on the special effects of spider-man 3, i hope they do not do the same with silver surfer.

No John Dystra on spider-man 3, wtf? were they thinking.

I have very high hopes for the new hulk, daredevil 2, and wolverine, as well as iron man but will probably be dissapointed once again as a comics fan. if they mess up the frank miller and chris claremont take on wolvie i'll never forgive the bastards.

Marvel definetely needs to bring the quality level up because dc is bringing its A game , with the man of steel and the dark knight. too bad they shleved new Gods that would've been a hell of a movie if done right, but i said the same about fantastic four. and the corman version is closer to the doctor doom of kirbys book, lol

kind of how i think X-men 3 should not have been made unless it was by Bryan Singer. Superman returns was ok, x-men 1 and 2 were great.

first mistake hire a cheapy horror movie director second, allow the actors to determine the course of the films, hugh jackman and hallie berry anyone? then kill off cyclops and jean grey when anyone with half a brain knows the phoenix story of the comics does'nt do this and is not what singer wanted, he wanted to do star trek 3 via clothed in x-men universe.

Help: looking for... 1997 SE TB Digital Broadcasts
Time
while the pal dvd prservation of the european digital satellite broadcasts are the best quality they are hardly the only ones out there. dark jedi did a set of the special edition laserdiscs from 1997 and it is ntsc.

and for those on these boards claiming he did not do the full screen/pan and scan versions from the vhs, yes he did i own them russ sent me copies years ago.

so far no one has capped the re-release of the special edition 1997 set from 2000 in japan the last release issued and yes japanese subs doh.

i have some rare pal star wars treasures i want to watch, i just need to get my hands on a pal laserdisc player.

these include the pal pan and scan uk oot, and the french coffret set from 1994 before the thx set, both of dubious quality but hey i also bought the executor vhs set so i also need a pal vhs deck, lol

don't even get me started on needing to purchase a betamax player or a ced disc player for my other star wars stuff.

i believe the TB set is from france or something not sure, i know the g'kar is from germany. the best one supposedly was from canal+, but i don't think that one is around? plus it had the canal watermarks on the screen.

i wish i could get my hands on the HD versions of the 2004 star wars trilogy, and the prequel films. or mr lucas would acutually release them on blu ray, come on george pretty please, lol

1980 Empire RSO 2 LP set (Released)
Time
as far as i know of of the missing tracks were included in the anthology set but resequenced to more acuretely follow the film. i myself wish the was a LP rip to cd for the two lp set, but that would probably be unessary because you have the anthology set, then the rca 2 disc empire, and then the sony 2 disc.

pdfs of the booklets from all three original star wars soundtrack lp's would be nice.

star wars did have a 2 cd release from polydor but was missing the fox fanfare, plus i think it was missing the cantina song and as far as i now did not exactly follow the sequensing of the lp set.

yes the original return of the jedi cd and lp are a disgrace i own them so very short in terms of tracks. and empire i wont even go there single cd with the tracks all out of order.

i have star wars on reel to reel as well as the story of star wars unused, wish i could come up wish the cash to get them transfered.

George Lucas calls Spiderman 3 'silly'
Time
that lucas called spider man 3 silly shows just how much he is out of touch with the filmaking public. raimi has produced with the spider-man films what lucas should have with the prequels, fun entertaining movies with chraracters not just cgi.

what it reallly says is just how small a man he really is, and how big his ego is, he's insanely jealous of sam raimi's success. that what you get for taking a 20 some old year vacation from filmaking, hello.

and wow he spent a little over ten years producing one of the biggest turds in the history of trilogies, while simulataneously ruining the only good one he worked on, i'm talking star wars here folks.

he's got to step down from his soapbox or pedestal what have you, and start making good films again with feeling and story.

The i'm a hero, i'm a god, i'm a legend bullshit has to stop, he got lucky with star wars in '77, i wish i did not agree with his more vicious critics, but he is starting to look like a one trick poney.

Making of Star Wars (New Book) Discussion
Time
i had a bad fealing that lucas might get involved with the book and rewrite history or get rinzler to do so, how much of charlies work survives?

i would like to know before buying the book i don't need another expensive picture book or another lucas aplogists work, what i want and have wanted for a long time is the actual story of how the film was made and came to be.

i like once upon a galaxy a journal of the making of the empire strikes back and the making of return of the jedi because they cut quick to the chase so to speak to the real meat of the making, warts and all approach including feuding on the set.

the best book up til now on the making of the first film was skywalking, plus there was the starlog and rolling stone interviews as well as the more technical aspects in american cinematographer. cinefex was not around yet the first film on star wars they covered was empire, unless you count the retrospective they did in the early nineties.

i want the hardcover of making of star wars and the star wars chronicles book just need to find a fair price.

on top of buying children of hurin deluxe edition i shall be very broke indeed, lol

never mind me wanting to buy the making of spiderman 3.

Charles Lippincott or "charlie" as he's known to his fans and friends is one of the nicest and most honest and approachable people on the making of the first star wars. someone who i would personally like to meet someday and thank and shake his hand, same with Mr Gary Kurtz.

Charlies love of the great movie serials Flash Gordon from the thirties and forties starring the late great Buster Crabbe. made him a natural to document and oversee the first advertisements and marketing of the film. Like getting the deal made for the 1976 paperback novel and the marvel comic.

I was not alive at the time so i could not go to the world science fiction convention, i am envious of anyone who was there and bought the chaykin poster, and saw the early 35mm promotional slides and got to meet Mark Hamill.

Darabount rips Lucas over Indy IV script
Time
Lucas could never make a movie as good as the Shawshank Redemption, therefore i trust Darabount's opinions way more than lucas. As far as i'm concerned lucas has been out of touch with reality since after the success of empire strikes back, which many critics and fans see as superior to the first star wars.

raiders still was great despite the fact that lucas had promised to work on it with Kurtz, and ended up using Kanzanjian. I'll give Spielberg and Kasden, as well as kanzanjian props for making sure raiders came out pretty close to the script.

Lucas had not lost it yet and become a mogul either, he still took input and worked with spielberg not against him.

Jedi would be the last time he would ever take anyones input and advice, he did the prequels howewer he wanted and kept all the yes men and ass kissers in tow. As much as Kanzanjain gets lambasted for being a yesman, he was his own person and he did have input on jedi. I can't say the same thing for the guy who took over.

Perhaps this is the first of many people who will finallyt stand up to the man, g.l. and recalls he is flesh and blood just like us not a revered god image that lucas has built up over the years, there should be a book about the real man vs. the myth hes created.

reading stuff from biographies not sanctioned by lucas it seems he has a very fragile ego, also he is kind of perturbed and scared by his success. He is a very private man, what many have called a recluse, does not take advice or contructive criticism well even from his filmaking friends.

The George Lucas who made star wars from 1977-1983 and the George of today are very different people.

First major changes that impacted him as a person the split with mr Gary kurtz who many saw as george other half creatively on star wars and empire, and the divorce from marcia the brilliant and most talented film editor of all time who wanted out of the hollywood scene.

The best things for writers, or filmakers is to have other people help you put things in perspective objectively. Thus a spouse, friends, collegues, editors, agents who will be brutally honest and not mince words.

The prequels despite all the people who worked on them and did the pre viz art, was really a one man show, the first time lucas actually was able to indulge himself and the films have suffered for it. The original trilogy as well as the original indiana jones and last crusade were collaboartions made in heaven, if he had only had such people on the newer ones.

Would you still watch SW without John William's brilliant score?
Time
id like to wtach the rough cut or lost cut of star wars with the temp track music for curiosities sake.

Mars the god of war from Holst the planets was a very awsome choice as was the theme of the charioteers from ben hur.

did anyone know that both john williams and jerry goldsmith studied at the juliard school of music around the same time or that both were in the 20th century fox orchestra conducted by the famed alfred newman whos fox fanfare williams resurrected for star wars.

they were both contemporaries and to all accounts classmates and friends, Jerry Goldsmith is immortalized for creating the fanfare for star trek the motion picture that became the theme for star trek the next generation when mixed with tos theme. John Williams is of course going to be remembered mostly for his star wars scores for the original trilogy of films, after he is long gone. I guess id also put him up there for e.t., raiders of the lost ark, superman, jaws, jurassic park, hook, harry potter and the prequel scores for sw.

Heres to hoping that his new indiana jones score with the london syphony orchestra is nothing less than stellar.

Indiana Jones IV
Time
i hope shea lebouf is not indys son, if the holes kid is then the movie should be boycotted.

Am i the only one who thought the idea of having natalie as his daughter was an awsome idea, certainly not uncle george mcduck lucas.

I also do not like how this unknown other than having a bit part in i robot is the main guy in transformers wtf?

So he had a cheapy horror movie come out this weekend, i'm not impressed.

Am i the only one who thought short round and willie were the most annoying characters ever and that except for the mine chase scene which was supposed to be in raiders temple was the worst of the trilogy.

Soundtracks!
Time
my two favorite soundtrack composers are John Williams, and Jerry Goldsmith.

I think the score jerry did for nemesis is quite good the movie sucks.

i also like the harry potter scores by john williams even though i'm not a fan of the books or movies.

other than a few themes here and there the prequels are more miss, than hit on a hit and miss ratio.

I do like duel of the fates, battle of the heroes, across the stars.

Jerry Goldsmith rocks he did the score for the original omen.

is there any Star Trek Enterprise fans here?
Time
i'm a huge fan of Enterprise and am Excited at the prospect of a revival via the books telling the real story of what happened to trip. in the book The Good That Men Do.

have not read it yet but supposedly it leads into what would have been season 5 and the first war between Earth and the Romulans and the founding later of starfleet.

I found enterprise refreshing there is only so many times you can watch repeats of tng.

I only don't own them on dvd bacause of evil price gouging at 120.00 a season. they had them for like 85 once at sams club but they all sold out, lame.

Yes i know of places where you can get the bulkpack for over 300.00 of all four seasons still beyond my price range.

I heard that after this show is cancelled the new Flash Gordon series sci fi is prepping will take it's time spot.

supposedly sci fi thinks galactica's mature and hard edge themes is what made the ratings slide, i think they are morons myself.

they seem to think that a less serious series like Flash would be more welcomed with opened arms.

Flash Gordon has tons of fans built in Long before the awful 1980 film, Alex Raymonds superb comicbook and the buster crabbe serials are the real flash gordon as far as i'm concerned and i was born in 1978, lol

I will admit to as a kid likeing the strange cheasyness of the 1980 film because of the awesome queen score and the use of the music from the atari game vanguard.

not to mention a pre bond timothy dalton as prince baron.

The suits will never understand good sci fi, they cancelled such stellar outings as enterprise, stargate sg-1, galactica, firefly, farscape. morons who understand nothing but nielson ratings who don't even bother going to fan conventions or reading fan mail to see what a following these shows have and had.

To dumb down and completely ruin shows by turning them into complete drivel or t&a fests to compete with desperate houswives is lame. The average american viewer is a retard if they think shows like american idol and desperate houswives are better than shows like galactica.

Anyone else totally disregard Obi-Wan being Anakin's friend?
Time
i follow what's it the return of the jedi novelization that makes reference to the original prequel outline.

Ben served Bail during the Clone Wars, he was owens brother and took Leia to live on alderaan, and then luke to tatooine.

it also makes reference very vaguely to Leia's real mother possibly being around during her early childhood.

there is a scene on Dagobah where Kenobi takes personal reponsibility for anakin's fall, via his ghost self. He never seems to take repponsibility in the movie, in fact he completely glosses over the fact that both he and yoda lied to Luke, had him trained and raised to believe he was to be the one to kill his fathers killer, not his own father.

That his father was a hero, a champion of justice and a good man and friend, not a butcher of younglings and the killer of his own wife.

Both Boba Fett and Han Solo were to appear in the original third prequel. Fett with the mandalorian hunters helped vader track down and destroy the jedi knights, and Han Solo would have been nothing more than a boy, or orphen on Corellia. Not like in the earlier revenge of the Sith drafts where he was raised as a surrogate brother to Chewbacca, and chewies family as his only known family.

There are several points that i totally disregard in the prequels, though you guys know these are just movies and not real life i'm not such a dork that i lose sleep over the incontinuity between the two trilogies.

If i really gave a damn anymore like i did as a teenager where lucas was going to take the series i would say.

1. No damn Midiclorians or how ever it is spelt.
2. NO friggin Jango Fett
3.NO darth maul he was only created spur of the moment the only sith lords should be the emperor and vader.
4. no count dooku or draku
5. no demodians
6. no gungans and especially no jar jar binks
7. no starting with anakin as a little kid
8. no poop or fart jokes
9. everything as real as possible like the old movies no fake Cgi.
10. no special editions of the oot that competely alter characters or storylines like the 1997 and 2004.
11. he should have started with the sequel trilogy with Han, Luke and Leia and then went back to do the prequels, but that would have required him to return and not have a 22 year hiatus.
12. vader's wife dies much later during leia's early childhood, not dying in labor because of a broken heart. What a lame way to go out for a supposedly strong female character who was the inspiration for leia.

Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971
Time
ah the first deluxe letterbox series from mgm/UA, yes i've heard of that. one of my buddies on ebay sells a lot of those titles sealed and not sealed.

i Have the deluxe CAV laserdisc THX set of thunderball which is identical to the dvd release of the special edition. I bought my copy sealed too bad it was'nt during the original release because i can no longer send away for the free poster repro.

Very cool poster the original theater copies go for big bucks now, its the same one on the back of ash's cover he made for your project. Bond with the Rocket pack, the girls, and the underwater scene with spear guns. three scenes or a tri-poster.

by the way i really appreciate the work you did on the three banned bonds of preserving the legacy of Terrence Young, through the commentary, and the repro of the CAV discs onto dvd because these were the only approved versions by Terrence before his death.

Thunderball was my fave bond film as a kid as i was very imaginative back then, and really thought the underwater sequence was cool and the rocket pack. Plus bonds care was more than words could describe, i was just wowed by the whole thing as a kid because i'd never seen anything quite as imaginative or fun except for star wars or indiana jones.
