Legacy books: star wars sacrifice (spoiler warning) do not read unless you don't want to be spoiled.
Time

all i can say is i wish the legacy series would be boycotted cause they killed off Mara Jade Skywalker, i hope whomever decided this gets lots of hate mail. i refuse to read the book and will cancell reading the legacy series and all star wars EU is now dead to me.

i wanted to strangle someone when they killed chewie and anakin solo.

that they make a strong and beloved female character like Zahn’s Mara go out like a chump to her whiny nephew jacen who seems to be the reincarnated darth vader of the prequels, is unforgivable. especially just to give Luke Skywalker the motivation to go out and kill again.

With George’s Treatment of the originals, the special editions and the prequels, and now this is think star wars is official dead to me.

star wars 1977-1983 r.i.p.

star wars eu 1978-2007 r.i.p.

star trek XI J.J. Abrams
Time
will this movie revive the frachise or kill it forever?

is it a good idea or bad idea to make this movie now that Rick berman is no longer involved.

Paramount blamed Tom Cruise and not JJ for the failure of MI:III and fired him instead. i find that funny and that abrams has been allowed to actually helm the new film as director.

The reports of it being set in kirk's and spock's academy days and no starship enterprise until the second or third picture if the film is sucessfull to me is a bad idea it is not star trek without the enterprise.

Being a reboot and apparently being simply titled STAR TREK, i wonder how well it will do and if they can find someone to fill william shatner's jackboots.

Transformers: The Movie
Time
the recent trailer is saw on tv looked like crap, and i winced when i saw that lebouf kid and some girl i've never heard of in really bad acting and dialogue.

Now if that is not bad enough hasbro is going forward with the live action G.I. Joe movie.

The live action transformers movie makes the hand drawn cel cartoon, and movie make the live action a joke just explosions and bad actor cameo roles.

if this movie makes money similar robot or mecha shows from japan will be made into live action movies to bad american versions.

Live action Gundam, robotech/macross, and evangelion cannot be far behind.

Plus other japanese anime being optioned for ameircan cinema or actually being made, like naruto, battle angel by james cameron, ghost in the shell, astro boy, and starblazers which is really space battleship yamato. Hollywood for years has tried to get the right to do a big budget live action akira, i hope to god it does not happen.

Star Wars - The Vintage Edit (* unfinished project *)
Time
if this recreates the original star wars in watchable quality i'm all for it keep up the good work.

the 2006 GOUT Star Wars 1977 is an absolute disgrace it looks awful even on my non widescreen television.

Smearing and artifacting everywhere, this was a problem during the premiere of the dvd player with there being only single layer movies from laserdisc masters, but in 2006 when there are stellar anamorphic movies out unacceptable.

not only is the 2004 set ruined by bad mixing on a new hope, apparent matte boxes visible, cgi that don't belong in a seventies or eighties movie, and poor color correction. they also ruined the 2006 bonus disc by using a bad master tape from 1993.

it is an absolute joke that the only watchable copy i have of a new hope is fan produced, and has pal speedup. Moth3r's. I heard citezens was better but that is not available as far as i know except through trades.

in Moth3r's pal star wars episode IV: a new hope you can see the starfield that seems to have been lost in all the ntsc home video releases.

Intriguing new info on Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy deleted scenes gleaned from CELEBRATION IV.
Time
i would only buy a star wars dvd set again if it had all the original trilogies deleted scenes, and the oot restored and anamorphic on dvd.

i would only buy this if it was released on HD and tell lucas where he can shove the prequels and the special editions.

Biggest fanboy pipedream of the ages, and it is not happening folks.

now i'm just waiting for lucas to ruin indiana jones with fake cgi in indiana jones IV.

So, um... no new DVD's announced this year?
Time
the market is already flooded with previous releases.

from 2004, 2005, and 2006 thats 3 times the 2004 special editions have been released and one time only for the letterbox bonus oot.

Lucasfilm is still cautious about blu ray because they are worried about the copy protection being hacked. I think they much prefer at this point cinemax and HBO, and at some point pay per view on demand movies of the HD versions.

it is much more expensive to master and produce blu ray discs instead of dvd, and not everyone has hi def tv sets yet, it is still a niche market for early adopters of technology.

Yet Lucasfilm always saying it stays on the cutting edge on technology and entertainment makes me think Blu Ray is somewhere up there sleeves, and you know fox is breathing down his neck for them to be released, as well as sony the makers of the blu ray format. Because if star wars is released on blu ray as an exclusive title say bye bye to HD-DVD.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Time
to me the only stupid people are the ones paying to see a popcorn flick and expecting shakepearean drama.

this is a pirate movie, a swashbuckler. it proudly succeeds as one of the b movies genre it is susposed to be.

it would be a more fair comparison to say it is not as good as the movies that came before in its own genre, namely the sea hawk and captain blood.

if you are one of those people that subscribes to the fact that hollywood makes stupid films with no plot, remember it is a business and every time a dumb special effects movie breaks box office records it sends the wrong signal to hollywood, that there is an audience for these entertainments. if people were not goint to see them or buying tickets then they might change the way they make movies.

author peter biskind who wrote a book called easy riders, raging bulls. credits lucas sucess with star wars in 1977 the bad turnaround for hollywood making sharp character driven movies of adult themes, to what biskind labels as twerp cinema.

he even blames spielberg for twerp cinema.

celebrating 70 years of The Hobbit and 30 Years of the Silmarillion.
Time
i am very excited about the upcoming seventieth anniversary edition of the hobbit, as well as the two volume history of the hobbit.

I read the children of Hurin the first new tolkien book in 30 years, while celebrating the 30th anniversary of the silmarillion.

This is also the thirtieth anniversary year of the sword of shannara by terry brooks, as well as the 30th anniversary of star wars. and the mass market printing of the alan dean foster novelization.

really the 31st anniversary is you count the 1976 printing.

New Clone Wars Trailer!
Time
the animation looks quite impressive, too bad it is set during the prequels.

i wish it was set during the original trilogy or later in the EU where epiosdes 7-9 would have taken place if they ever were done.

when i heard lucasfilm was setting up it's on animation studio in singapore and that george was a fan of anime i was quite excited. Because of the prospects for other animated films and tv shows.

it is kinda funny seing as george founded pixar and later sold it to steve jobs who later sold it to disney, lol

i am quite excited becuase although i was not a huge fan of the prequels i loved the clone wars comic series from dark horse written by haden blackman who also happens to be writing for this 3-D animation series.

lets just cross our fingers and hope to god jar jar's not in it.

Any Harlan Ellison fans here?
Time
i am only a fan of his script for city on the edge of forever from star trek tos.

but since he's now a star trek basher and all around jerk i will not buy a single book he publishes, he goes to fan conventions and bad mouths roddenberry.

He also seems to have the biggest ego out of all living sci fi or SF authors.

I also think Orson Scott Card is a better writer, to each his own i suspose, lol

Tales of the New Republic - fan film
Time
i've seen 3-D design by ILM, and Square Enix that blows this crap out of the water thats what i meant by amateurish.

i still prefer hand drawn cel animation. most 3-d is gimmicky and crappy by comparison.

things i do like about this fan series set in new republic era so they can use zahn characters like one of my favorites mara jade. also it has my favorite characters from the original trilogy, hopefully they won't add in anything from the prequels like the eu has done resently because that will ruin it.

people hate the work of kevin j anderson, i don't i actually like his star wars stuff. it's not the best but it is better than the prequels. i liked the eu stuff from the early 90's up til before the prequels, the bantam stuff put a want in my mind for the sequel trilogy which was rumored to be in production back in the early 90's and nothing was much asid about the prequels except that one might feature mark hamill as anakin befiore he put on the mask.

that all came from the rumours i read in the dark horse comics mag published in the uk that by some strange chance my newstand had copies of.

there are many more bakstories and motifs etc george had in his protype scripts he did not use in the prequels like he should have, like the whills elaboration that was in the revenge of the sith novelization and the script but not in the movie because they could not get liam to reprise his role.

i know i just went way off in a tangent, but i do like the maquettes of princess leia and padme that gentle giant made, if they can achieve that anime esque design simililar to the star wars manga, or clone ware cartoon that aired on cartoon network id be an avid watcher, as long as they use stories other authors already wrote and just animated them. i do not want to see some fanboys fanfictions animated because that would be totally lame, but i see no way then can get permission to use the dark horse, bantam, or del rey materials.

i also do not see why lucasfilm could not have had a live action show now, with at least mark hamill reprising his role as luke skywalker. They could adapt the new jedi order or something and have some dark stuff along the lines of the new battlestar galactica.

New Star Wars Movie...
Time
there are still fanboys out there, so desperate for more star wars movies they make up rumours of them.

it is funny when a lot of these guys belong to the media, news, magazines and what have you, lol

i wish the sequel trilogy would still be made but with lucas only as executive producer, and someone like peter jackson directing a story based off of the Zahn stories.

Tales of the New Republic - fan film
Time
this looks like a fanfilm because the animation stills look pretty amateur, but so don't the stills shown so far by lfl for the new clone wars LOL!

say what you will about Genndy Tartakovsky's 2 clone wars seasons, but they were very professionally done.

i don't really did not like his style all that much at first, but it grew on me. I still prefer traditional illustration, in fact the style i'd go with if it was me would be as realistic as possible animated but like live action.

speaking of Genndy Tartakovsky, i am looking forward to his big screen version of astro boy, i hope it lives up to the hype.

Info: Star Wars Super 8 film black & white - any use for people here?
Time
this is the subtitled silent one right?, as far as i know this one pops up far more often than the color renditions and just like hose there are longer and shorter versions, i think?

also depends on what country it was released in, i know france, mexico, and germany had diffrent releases not all of which were from ken films. i've heard the uk also got releases. there are even very rare test 16mm clips made for ken films full frame and 8mm cinemascope versions from ken films, not widely advertised i know i've seen them on ebay.

according to the star wars collectors website there were two versions of empire the one released during the 70mm run and then pulled and one featuring the regular 35mm mix released later. i think ken films went out of business so there was never a digest version of return of the jedi as far as i know in 8mm. there was a film distributor in the uk who had the trilogy in cinemascope full features on like six reels or so. for each. i think the last time i checked they still had return of the jedi if you had like a thousand bucks, lol

the german ones were german dubbed i believe and were cut for censors reasons, i think they were called marketing films and were like short trailers of the features.
