Sci-Fi Channel
Time
sci fi channel is run by people who don't understand sci fi or its audeince, want proof?

they cancelled galactica after only four seasons, and that is ahead of time for flash gordon.

and they replaced the excellent sg-1 with the inferior atlantis.

then again the suits of other netoworks have also been as moronic cancelling enterprise, space above and beyond, firely, and farscape.

i've had about just enough of fake wrestling, or reality tv as i can stand.

The only sci fi i have looked forward to in a long time other than the possible release of season 3 of the new galactica on dvd, is babylon 5 the lost tales.

Darth Bane Novel: A Great Exploration of the Dark Side
Time
there is going to be a second darth bane novel. a sequel of which the working title is rule of two. supposed to be another hardback coming out suppodesly late in the year.

i enjoyed the dark horse mini series jedi vs sith that besides Kevin Anderson's short story was the first appearance of him.

the special sith issue of insider by karpshyn was really cool. will have to read path to destruction.

I loved Kotor 1, and Kotor 2 was ok. Wish they had a third one on the 360.

speaking of the film of revenge of the sith at least Lucas did not use what he had wrote in one of the drafts where palpatine had created anakin through a tenchnique plagueis taught him to infleunce midiclorians, vader being lukes daddy was enough. the emperor being luke's grandfather would have been laughable.

never mind how the whole rule of two continuity Lucas put into place is completely ignored in the game force unleashed which lucas helped co-author.

Similarities between Star Wars and Dune
Time
the bene gesseritt and Prtincess Leia in an early draft being a swan sensanna.

Spice

dune arrakis/tatooine

i think there are far more similarilties between star wars and the lensman saga than dune however.

you could easily make a list about a hundred pages long on how many things lucas ripped off for star wars.

He removed enough of the homages, references, and influences in the final script to avoid copyright infringement from edgar rice burroughs inc. and others.

30th Anniversary - Empire Magazine
Time
the real quote that is always censored is attributed to harrison ford is " you can type this shit George, but you sure as hell can't say it"

they always say stuff even in the making of star wars book, at least the people who made when star wars ruled the world allowed harrison to use the real quote.

nobody would say stuff in colloqialized speech, it just sounds unnatural like some beaver cleever 50's crap rather than how ameircans really speak.

the academy luke wants to go to
Time
to further confuse matters there is a rebel space academy on tatooine in rebel assualt.

You play as rookie one and train to fly X-wings by running through beggars canyon in a t-16 skyhopper and blasting wamp rats and you can even fly through the stone needle.

Then again i don't know how canon Rebel Assault is since it is rookie one who fires the shot that destroys the death star.

They have a little backstory in Brian Daleys han solo novels about the imperial naval academy.

What You're Reading Now: Revisited
Time
i'm slowing making my way through the dry as bones J.R.R. Tolkien Comapanion and Guide by hammond and scull. some good scholorship there. I already read the children of hurin but want to read it through a second time.

I'm going to re-read the entire history of Middle Earth Series, and the Lord of the rings while waiting on the 70th anniversary edition of the hobbit and making of and fascimile manuscript.

I need to re-read the shannara series since it has been optioned for film with the first movie being elfstones. though my fave is sword despite being a poor mans knock off of lotr.

I'm stuck in two fantasy series and forget how far i got in reading them they are the sword of truth and wheel of time series. still need to make my way through george r.r. martin's a song of fire and ice.

I finished reading the making of star wars and thought it was a good book despite screenshots being from the special edition or lucas comments being re-writing of history.

Shatner Out, Nimoy In
Time
William Shatner has a new book coming out at some point called Star Trek: The Academy--Collision Course it apprenrently features both kirk's enterprise and picard's and possiibly time travel, and has little or nothing to do with his other kirk books.

Not sure if this is the academy story he wanted to be the reboot or has nothing to do with the new movie.

William Shatner has been known to have a huge ego and probably wanted a bigger role or more money, cash or kudos so to speak.

I'm suprised Nimoy is involved since he turned down directing generations or being in that movie in a cameo role, Deforrest Kelley also turned down the role of bones in that film.

Paramount waited to long to do a another classic trek picture or reunion movies as both scotty, and doctor mcoy actors are dead.

If the studio could not afford shatner's fee what does that saw about the special effects will they fuck up again and not use ILM. Remember nemesis, insurrection or trek V they did not work on them.

Jerry Goldsmith is dead so who is doing the music?, and if they cannot get Matt Damon for kirk who should they hire on?

I have very little faith in the studio that botched enterprise by cancelling it despite about 4 million fans who wrote in to save it. the same people who cancelled the original series and had no faith in it til they saw the cash cow star wars was and wanted to get on the bandwagon.

I look at how beautifully restored the live action footage is in the cgi crapfest of the new version of tos and i'm mad that they did not keep the original elements to be able to have HD versions of the old show. Some of the effects on that show were revolutionary at the time and were done by Richard Edlund who later worked on star wars.

This new movie will be a decidedlly diffrent departure from the planned trek 11 by berman which was to be directed by nick meyer and be the romulan vs earth wars. His contract was up in 2005 and he was not rehired, though it has been reported in some places that he was fired because of the failure of enterprise and nemesis.

With new young blood being added into the mix as well as new writers and producers it may be a good film or it may not. I personally think despite his age nimoy should be the director of this movie.

movies 1-6 are much better than the next generation movies except for the excellent first contact.

then again i still think trek 7 should have been the ashes of eden.

star trek the return would have also made a good sequel to generations but it is too late now.

Battlestar Galactica Telemovie Edits (Released)
Time
do you have or know of anyone who has the extended theatrical european/canadian cut of the widescreen movie that ran in 1978 in theaters?

it was different from the tv edited pilot episodes and the us dvd of the movie or theater release.

there were some of the episodes edited into movies on vhs such as the terrible galactica 1980, or galactica earth.

For Babylon 5 Fans
Time
i absolutely loved this whole series as well as its movies. Except for the spinoff show and legend of the rangers, the lost tales look friggin awesome and i cannot wait. I loved the music on this show i have a couple of the cd's but need to buy more.

I love the works of JMS, and i appreciate the fact that he is also a fan of lord of the rings and the lensman series by e.e. doc smith.

His comics work is astounding, i especially enjoyed his work on spider-man.

not only do i consider babylon 5 to be intriguing in terms of its use of character development, mythology and politics, but also a worthy and great saga of science fiction and the space opera tradition in the grandest sense.

The whole space station idea was reletaively new for tv when the show was first put on tv, then deep space nine came along and kinda copied the premise albeit needed being shoehorned to fit roddenberry's universe.

Babylon 5 is greater and more satisfying to me than all sci fi shows of its ilk when it was on tv towards the end of its run, and is up there as one of the greats next to star trek tos and the next generation.

Bruce Boxleiter is awesome, i love his work. very underated actor, and interesting enough was in the casting call for star wars for luke skywalker though was not one of the callbacks for videotape.

I also loved this show because the Psi Corps and the Rangers were kinda like the lensman of the galactic patrol or the jedi knights. and because Chekov from star trek played bester named after the famous sci fi author alfred bester another space opera luminary in the tradition of the doc.

Lucas these days plays up the Joseph Campbell and mythology stuff but does not mention how he ripped off E.E. "doc' smiths lensman opus and J.r.r. tolkiens lord of the rings.

RELEASED: "Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Special Longer Version)"
Time
i am really looking forward to the widescreen version of the longer tv cut since that is the one i grew up with on vhs instead in fullscreen.

i was born in 1978 so not only was i born to late to see star wars in 1977, i was only a baby and could not see trek 1 in the theaters.

i enjoyed the HD2DVD of the theatrical version so i am interested in seeing your version of the theatrical cut with the real theatrical sound mix. the HD version i beleive has a 5.1 which is not the theatrical version but is strangely similar yet different to the directors cut.

I just wish someone would take this movie and all its deleted scenes to reconstruct alan dean fosters script in thy image the pilot for phase II.

Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971
Time
the making of is on the new official u.e. of thunderball and on the previous special edition release. if you look earlier in the thread fanfiltration said it was not his desire to make stuff available that was already out officially since he supports the official dvd releases.

I am not trying to be an jerk but it is also against this sites rules to ask for stuff that is already officially a release on dvd, so i suggest you support the filmakers by actually buying the official release.

Indiana Jones IV
Time
it is official now that Sean Connery will not be in the movie although Henry Jones senior was in the script, connery turned the movie down preferring to remain retired. I wonder if it has anything to do with the less than specatacular prequels.

Still the scenes in the script that reportedly had all three generations of the jones men in adventure together will only be two.
