this is the end of our beloved saga. i will not stick around for the re-release of the phantom menace with 3-D jar jar.

the u.s.a. broadcast or whatever channel it was on had the audio clipped and censored when indy says in last crusade" two selfless martyrs, jesus christ" they kept the jesus in but blurted out christ. ruining the entire context of the scene henry sr still slaps him and says "thats for blasphemy".

i wonder if raiders had the i'm your new damn partner replacement dialogue instead of i'm your goddamn partner.

oh and they used the same color corrected transfers lowry did, the same overly bright and overly blue as they always do.

they used to show the untouched theatrical versions on tv with some dialogue and scene cuts. like the heart ripping out scene in temple of doom being trimmed or cut out altogether.

that depends on whether the movie is good and whether the fans accept it as canon. if it sucks we will pretend does not exist like the prequels and the special editions.

Sure george and steven can say its canon until they are red in the face but if it does not fit the first trilogy its complete garbage and a cash in.

really makes me wish that the script was written by larry kasden who retired from screenwriting after return of the jedi and body heat.

his 300 page script for raiders is actually better than the filmed movie and more serious and less campy, it is up their with the dialogue of casablanca. it had the mine cart sequence in it and everything, that was of course saved for temple of doom.

i often dream of how great return of the jedi would have been had Gary Kurtz stayed on as producer, if it was directed by Kershner and written by Kasden rather than just add quick touch up to george's script.

It could have been serious and entertaining in the same way as Empire Strikes Back, which George says is the failure of the series.

the six movie saga story of darth vader is revisionist history and a lie. it was always the adventures of Luke Skywalker as far back as the early script where it was the adventures of Luke starkiller. it was intended to be at first 12 then 9 film series. six of the films would have starred the middle trilogies cast. since their salaries must have gotten bigger on return of the jedi i can see why lucas decided to get a new cast and do the earlier episodes without mark hamill.

Besides the fact that the films are all fiction and i am very aware of the fact, Luke Skywalker was a better hero to cheer on, and a better role model for children unlike a mass murdering killer of younglings, and whiny emo bitch like hayden's anakin.

paying for the storyboards as special features is ludicrous especially since they were once on the indianajones.com website for free.

first they were only available as dvdrom material link for the 2003 set, then they were free to everyone, then mysteriously pulled.

hmm kinda like the missing directors's commentary and deleted scenes that were promised for the 2003 release are not on that release or even the 2008.

plus their are hi def transfers for these films but no blu ray disc is forthcoming.

anyone with half a brain will refuse to be triple dipped on standard dvd.

unlike with the prequels the screenplay as far as i know of is not being published ahead of time or the novelization, comic book or soundtrack to spoil it.

people were able to read the script for phantom menace or attack of the clones ahead of time and went into the theater thinking "man this is going to suck"

is you can get your hands on an adanced review copy of the novelization or somehow be lucky enough to see an advance screening maybe someone can review it and tell the rest of us whether it sucks or not so we can save our 12 dollars for something else.

actually the film was shot in the academy ratio of 1:33:1 on spherical 35mm film and was presented in theaters in 1:85: 1 dynamation widescreen.

aspect ratio here is a matter of tastes but the full frame was on the criterion on harryhausen suggestion.

the dvd is 1:78:1 anamorphic widescreen. not letterbox i was wrong i looked it up.

real bare bones release though. i hear clash of the titans is getting a new clean transfer remastred for blu ray with all the bells and whistles, but no remaster for standard dvd.

i do own the pioneer special edition of the 7th voyage of sinbad it is oar 1:33:1 unlike the dvd and has an isolated score also not on the dvd.

i am going to have to drop serious cash to get the criterion release of jason, unless i can somehow get it for cheap.

the one problem reviewers have had with the criterion release is that the sound is in monaural and the feature was recorded in stereo which is very strange.

i have also read that the pioneer release was better in terms of picture but did not have the commentary.

cannot find any and i have rented the letterbox dvd and it is not the proper ratio.

the 1:33:1 of the criterion is closer to the o-neg ratio.

the criterion release has these features not found on the later dvd release which was not from criterion:

i don't think this is a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, but i don't buy robert downey jr. as stark.

i was a fan of the comics and stark was supposed to be a very suave sophisticated type almost like sean connery as james bond.

kinda similar to how ai thought casino royale was a kickass movie but i don't buy craig as james bond.

i think their are three writers because they are combining several of the tv episodes together to make this movie. Though some material will be exclusive to the movie and an eventual dvd release.

there are japanese dubs available in region 2 but are only monaural.

i know someone once on these board wanted to preserve the original theatrical german dubs since they are not on any of the dvds.

i believe star wars (now called episode IV) got spainish, french and german as well as japan dubs all done in monaural .

well actually the spanish one was more of a narration than a dub as i recall, it is a very rare laserdisc release.

as far as i know a couple of the prequels got official mandarin dubs on vcd not sure which ones though.

upscaling a non anamorphic video master will not give you more resolution, as a new scan of the negatives anamorphically enhanced would.

i mean its a stupid question right it would display better on a 16:9 TV possibly. but you are not going to recover the 30% loss of quality evident in older 4:3 letterbox releases
which would have been ok in 1997, but not 2006.

Gout of Star Wars 1977 is pretty much unwatchable.

it is pretty sweet to be a fan of blade runner or godfather as they got and are getting pristine restorations. star wars is forgotten by lucas except when he needs money.

Are all the Tom Baker episodes going to ever be remastered and released?

That was the Doctor Who i loved as a kid, the one they used to show on pbs around the mid to late 1980's.

Yes he wears a funky scarf and is dressed like a hippie, but this show was really cool when i was a kid. I used to pretend time travel based on this show, using a telephone booth because that is what the doctors time machine looked like, lol.

I still find it funny that Peter Cushing aka governor tarkin played dr who in a movie. Which i read somewhere not entirely sure that it was not canon.

Cushing is awesome in those old hammer horror films as DR Frankenstein, Van Helsing etc. Also funny how Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) played Dracula.

it did get renewed for a second season, along with chuck, and also heroes and lost got renewed.

journeyman, bionic woman were both cancelled.

No word on when season 2 of sarah connor will premiere.

I have heard the only reason it was renewed was to beef up interest in the new terminator trilogy starring Christian Bale as John Connor

The bad terminator villain has not been cast or announced yet but i read that they were considering Vin Diesel to Replace Arnold. They said their may be a scheduling problem though with him doing the fast and the furious 4 a direct sequel to the hit first film.

Now lets be honest how many guys watch this show, that includes all sci fi geeks as well because Summer Glau is in it, from the awesome show firefly.

In the U.S.A. it pretty much comes down to how it effects peoples wallets.

World War II was good for business and the economy.

both gulf war I and gulf war II left the country in a major recession.

only good thing i can say about bush sr.'s war was it kept my dad employed at the GE.

but after the war ended their were major layoffs.

By the way i voted for bush, i don't hate the man at all. i just wonder why every other day they are cooking up another case against him or dick cheney at the justice department to get them impeached.

Then again i live in massachusetts, not something to be proud of, most liberal state in the union. All the news is definetely biased because everyone seems to worship at the altars of JFK, and Bill Clinton.

So if fox news is right wing, and cnn left wing where the hell do you get news that is not lies or bias?

Hell at least fox news has 2 viewpoints and lets the dems have there say as well like any proper democracy should.

I remember the 32x game got dismal reviews.

I think the reviewers also confused the two arcade games.

Sega's Sega cd, Sega saturn and sega dreamcast were all before their time, the 32x apparently sucked as much as the virtual boy.

The gametrailers people skipped the ground breaking rebel assault cd rom game, as well as x-wing and tie fighter, dark forces and the whole Kyle katarn jedi knight series.

they barely mentioned kotor.

the next episodes they are doing revolve around the shitty prequels.

because like flash gordon which these movies were based on the hero never dies.

even the villains don't stay permanently dead. as ming rose from the dead in flash gordon so did the emperor palpatine in dark empire.

i think people try to make the movies look serious when they were made for ages 5-9 and are kiddie fare.

like the transformer cartoons unless looked at through rose colored glasses of nostalgia don't hold up to the mind of people in their 20s or 30's, hell even some teens find the films laughable or contemptible. still they are worlds better than the prequels, just like buster crabbes flash gordon is better than the new sci fi version.

the new jedi order was the first star wars series to try to add some adult and real world things to star wars like death, and non black and white characters i.e. ambiguity. the prequels did this also but rather poorly, similar to how poorly the legacy novels are being handled.

as to whether the oot is relevent to the time in which we live, post 911, in comparison to say the new battlestar galactica is a discussion for another time.

i also do agree that bush and co are still spreading the lie that 911 had to do with saddam and iraq, and even the republican front runner mcain is irreponsibly doing the same.

if bush's aim was to attack every nation that harbors terrorists we would be at war with the whole world and even ourselves since we allow al qaida folks to like right in the u.s.a. under diplomatic immunity.

most people are proberly unaware but the president or vice president being reponsible for using their authority against a political rival by putting the same persons wife at risk who was undercover is terms for the death penalty.

i am neither a republican nor democrat ass kisser. i am an independant.

i am also aware that former president bill clinton allegedly commited high treason for selling our nuclear secrets to socialist red china.

that would mean both recent presidents should have gotten the death penalty if found guilty, and would have if they were like an average american to have to follow the law. too bad they are untouchable bigshots who can break the law as many times as they see fit.

the biggest joke in american history, they did not get slick willy on chinagate but blowjobgate.

also the link posted above seems to be anti american rhetoric and propaganda produced by another country perhaps france or germany since they have language i cannot read above the videos, including middle eastern characters, which i am only familiar with the look of since they show up in bin ladin videos on the tv.

the trailer looks like garbage, looks like graphics from a nintendo 64 game.

this movie will suck.

we as oot fans have 2 options pretend it does not exist or boycott it and every other piece of new lucasflm trash until the oot gets a proper release.
