Watchmen Film
Time

Using a theme from batman and robin for their trailer was probably not the best choice, imho.

It is the smashing pumpkins song which played over the end credits i believe. It was in 1997 i am jogging my memory here, though i do know there is a music video for it on youtube.

The costumes do look like they were inspired by the old batman movies by shitmacher not sure that was a wise choice either.

I think i will pass on seeing this movie, hopefully the spirit will be diffrent but also from that trailer it looks too much like sin city.

The last moore movie adapted V for Vendetta strayed too far from its source and ended up being a bush and far right bashing piece, which is right on with moore's political views but i heard he was not at all happy with the finished movie.

The Dark Knight Movie Discussion (July 18th, 2008)
Time

What is there to complain about this movie if you are a batman fan?

Seriously this movie rocks.

Its not like i have to sit through batman and robin again, literally one of the worst movies i have had to endure in theaters even worse than the star wars prequels.

If you see 2 movies this year it should be Iron Man and Dark Knight, The Hulk is mediocre at best but not pure shit like the last one, and Indiana Jones is just the icing on the cake brought on by the dissapointing prequels.

4 movies people waited over twenty years to see and now wish could be put back into pandoras box, or more relatively George Lucas brain.

The one batman movie I never saw in theaters and wish i had was batman 1989 with Micheal Keaton. I saw batman II: batman returns in theaters before the shitmacher films.

Nolan knows what he is doing has brought respect back to the batman franchise and the character. He does not overload the films with over the top crappy cgi, like batman and robin.

and unlike Superman Returns, Batman begins was a triumph not a dissapointment.

How Star Wars Episode III failed the Star Wars Saga
Time

Episode III did not fail the star wars saga, George Lucas did.

He was seduced by the darkside of cgi and crappy storylines, sold the new films to the lowest common demoninator to make the highest profit.

When star wars was made in 1976-77 they were not even sure it would break even.  Lucas had feared the production would get shut down and the movie would be taken away from him and reedited as had been done on thx 1138 and american graffiti.  That movie was made with an adventurous spirit and a heck of a good story,  the prequels are farts in the wind compared to star wars and empire strikes back.

Anybody who uses Jar Jar voice clips and jedi rocks in their podcasts is a joke anyway.

I really like how that guy says no one cares about the oot getting restored, apparently Robert Harris is a nobody.

Someone should mention the versions of star wars and empire on the afi lists are the original versions, not the uber super crappy fake cgi bastard editions.

TFN gushers really piss me off.  They love the prequels so much they should convince the academy of motion picture arts and sciences to have a special category for racist characters and poop and fart jokes.

Help Wanted: A question about the ROTJ trailers on the Definitive Collection LD set...
Time

I would also like a complete editdroid set and bonus discs.

I tried downloading them but they are not being seeded.

I mainly need the empire strikes back trailer not on the 2004 dvd release in good quality, the one with the temp track from Vivaldis four seasons "winter".  It was the second teaser trailer released in 1979 and released as both a scope and flat print.

What i have is the trailer off of t'bones supposedly done by the editdroid team.  Is the trailer on the dvd better quality or the same?

Things could be far worse.  At least the original negative for Raiders of the lost Ark has not been cut up to create a special edition as what was done to the 1977 star wars.

We are still not that far away from free hat south park becoming reality.  Indiana Jones IV all but proved this to me as well as Speilberg's comments in entertainment weekly where he said the old glass mattes looked faker than the new cgi in IV.

Info: EXCITING news - lost "METROPOLIS" scenes FOUND!!!!!!!!!
Time

To bad the o-neg was destroyed in 1997 to create the special edition.

More metropolis footage is a welcome find and i will buy the next dvd edition from kino as i'm sure my public library will as well.

Kino also put out restored versions of siegfried and kriemhildes revenge by Fritz Lang. I believe they also have a version of his murder movie M.

Kino rules they put out the definitive douglas fairbanks sr. editions with the tri strip technicolor, as well as the restored nosferatu.

RELEASED: "Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Special Longer Version)"
Time

I have a couple of questions

don't know if this belongs rather in fanfiltrations general thread if there is one.

When will forgotten thunderball ,and fanfiltration of the apes as well as star trek longer cut be released?

Well i guess that was three questions, LOL.

I love all your projects, i like the criterion banned bond set better than the lowry if you can believe that.

Mainly because the director approved those editions on laserdisc and not the dvd considering his passing.

Mark Hamill endorses Barack Obama....
Time

Who anybody supports in hollywood will not sway my vote.

I could not care less who the looney libs want for president.

I can be a fan or mr lucas and mr hamill and still think they are nuts to support barack.

I hope that the time has not come when we will hand the country over to the subversives or the communists and socialists.

my two great uncles who died fighting in world war II would not want that to happen to america and neither would my recently passed grandfather who also faught in ww2.

What was that cool website with all the rare photos?
Time

Thank You very much. I have the official black and white photocopies of these issues from cinefex, but they are not in color and jedi is missing some pages.

I already own the three american cinematographers. I have the rolling stone empire stikes back and star wars articles i am only missing the return of the jedi one.

I have the yuma daily sun revenge of the jedi piece.

You would'nt happen to have the pressbooks and press kits from 1977-1983?

Now if i can only find someone who have the american cinematographers and cinefex issues for the first 3 indiana jones movies.

Boycott is right.  If the "special edition" of Raiders of the Lost ark shown on tv makes it's way to dvd and blu ray, i really hope the fans pull out all the stops.

Star wars was ruined.  Indiana Jones IV sucked.   At least leave the Indiana Jones original trilogy alone, pretty please george.

What's next the swordmans trying to cut Indiana Jones Head off and a fake cgi dodge before the arab swordman is shot.   Or better yet maybe the arab will atack Indiana Jones with a walkie talkie, LOL

Saga Book Boxset - The 6 episodes in one box !!!
Time

This would be great if it focused on the original versions of the original trilogy and not the revisionist history cgi crap.

Still looks like a nicely crafted set. But who wants six books of screen grabs of ludicrous cgi.

Now if this was a film cel collection book featuring cells from the original three films, and featured notes by George Lucas before he was suduced by the dark side of cgi i just might buy the set. LOL

I still find it hard to believe that limited set collectors items like this which are extremely expensive can be produced but the original unaltered star wars trilogy that started the legend remains buried, sigh.

The GTA series rocks because it is a big sandbox to play in and is pure fantasy.  Anybody mistaking it for reality deserves a trip to the looney bin.

I am so Glad that ass thompson is being disbarred.  We have 5 dollar a gallon gas almost and troops dieing in Iraq and all he can do is talk about the violance in videogames, LOL.  Truly sad.

The best tongue in cheek moment of GTA4.  When nico kills the lawyer who says "Video Games Kill People not guns".   That nut the other Jack Thompson from the law and order show said the same, and he was a member of the NRA.  HE did not get very far in his bid for the presidency and thank our lucky stars he did not.

Robert A. Harris on Film Grain and Blu-Ray
Time

So what it pretty much comes down to is film grain is not dirt and dirt is not film grain.

Film is film, and HD video is HD video. Home Video and 35mm motion picture film are not one and the same.

Blu Ray will never come close to film resolution because it is an imperfect modern technology, film has been a perfected medium that has endured for over a hundred years.

A home video format that came out in the last few years obviously cannot match it. People will say but film is analog and analog is inferior to digital, getting their info from such uses of misinformation like mr George Lucas.

Don't get me wrong digital is becoming cheaper all the time while the cost of film does not come down, and independants like Lucas who finance their own films have every right to make their movies on the new technology. The only thing that is grossly irresponsible is trying to convince everyone else that it is the superior format.

I love that Scorcese, Depalma, and Spiellberg have refused to go digital. They do so under constant insults from George who is an old friend of theirs and insists his way of doing things should become the standard.

Indiana Jones IV may have had a terrible script. The thing i absolutely loved about the movie in the theater was there was Grain in the movie, like the serials of old. The 1930s and 4os serials were all shot on film. How much better would sky captain have been if they shot it on film?

I'm convinced the reasoning behind George's support of HD Video is that he supports the independant one man studio system, and wants to bring old hollywood to its knees. George's friends rely on the old studio system for financing and for the analog film as well as their technical crews. He has always had a grudge against hollywood and wants to bleed them dry.

It also seems to me that with all the fights he has had with the unions he would prefer to make films without needing them.

Now as to film grain being removed or minimized in lucas films i am entirely against it.  Having a perfect cleaned and scrubbed image for American Graffiti and THX 1138 when they were shot in 16mm with the grainyness as part of their art.  Just like Lucas wanted star wars to look like a documentary shot on film, grain should be there.

Then the dvd releases get digitally scrubbed and dvnr so that the crappy added cgi does not stick out line a sore thumb.
