Putting The Original-Original Trilogy's Prequel Story together
Time

From what i remember the original emperor was more of a combination of Richard Nixon and the Wizard of Oz.

The man behind the curtain who you never actually see but people speak of him with awe and fear.

I must say the description used by Alan Dean Foster in the 1976-77 novel happens to sound an awful lot like the emperor of Frank Herberts Dune.

And if that was not intentional on the part of Lucas then it probably is foster's own addition. Perhaps he is a fan of the novel dune?

Even in The Empire Strikes Back the emperor as he appears to be mysterious and dissembodied like a ghostly apparition.

As played by Clive Revill he was a much more powerful character becuase he was literally like in the original novel the unseen imperial voice, he sends his personal agents like vader to do his bidding.

In fact at one point the sith were the emperor's bodyguards as well as assassins in the script.

In rotj the emperor becomes more human even if slighly grotesque and satanic.

Lucas has not a single original idea the imperial world is actually taken from the novels of isaac asimov's empire trilogy and its sequel foundation trilogy. There it is called Trantor. Also there is a rebel world in his novels called Korell. LOL

The jedi are one part kurosawa samurai and another part lensman of the galactic patrol. Who are not answerable to anyone and are judge jury and excecutioner as they see fit.

Very few people have ever seen let alone had access to the 9 film outline. All we have is second hand info from People like Gary Kurtz that cannot really be taken on face value as evidance when he seems to think he knows star wars better than its actual author does.

Did the guy who wrote the annotated screenplays actually have access to the story outlines. How about Rinzler?

All the evidance seems to suggest all we have are prototype scripts and outlines and discarded ideas for a new hope that had been re-used for the prequels. and that no outlines actually exist for the prequels before he put pencil to paper in 1994. Never mind the sequel trilogy outline the biggest urban star wars myth of all.

It has never been a secret that both Luke and Anakin stem from a character called anakin starkiller in the rough draft script, and that both are actually the same prototype character in essence except one chosen to go over to the darkside and the other does not. Vader is Luke's shadow self or dark half. Which is pretty obvious after seeing the dual in the dagobah cave.

One of lucas favorite concepts is yin and yang, so he had kenobi the good father and vader the bad father etc.

The Dark Knight Movie Discussion (July 18th, 2008)
Time

SPOILERS AHEAD!

list of complaints i have heard from people who have seen the film:

1. Movie too cerebral, aka comic book takes itself too serioulsy and acts all hitchcock.

2. Too long

3. Utterly Humorless and boring

4. Pathos of the characters makes no sense aka the batman saves joker.

5. destroyed the batmobile again

6. The batman character has no motivation in the film, no save the girl or get revenge on the man who murdered his parents like in the 89 movie.

7. costume design epic fail like watchmen, batcycle uncessary and stupid only in film to sell toys.

8. The movie is so dark in tone that it is batshit crazy and runs off the reels. Unlike begins which was middle of the road.

9. the joker performance advertised as chilling to the bone comes off as accidentaly laugh out loud funny, there were people in the theater laughing their asses off.

10.  Movie is dissjointed, there is no real beginning, middle and end.  The movie fails thematically and their is no resolution to the plot at the end of the film, neither is there any hint at a cliffhanger the movie just ends like it is a story only half finished.

Did anybody see Wall-E?
Time

Now i am pissed because they promised their next movie would be John Carter of Mars instead we get something called "up" wtf?

Or will the burroughs sci fi project get delayed as often as toy story 3?

There are some people who like the Pixar films for their content but still prefer traditional animation. I have a loathing and hatred for almost anything and everything cgi because of the star wars special editions and prequels. To me it makes everything look like a videogame. this was the stupidity of the later bond films starring Pierce Brosnan like die another day as well.

I am worried how these ilm people will handle the effects in the new trek film for next year.   Will the enterprise look like a retarded cgi cartoon?

OT Special Edition haters
Time

Okay lets get one thing straight once and for all. That piece of garbage lucas unleashed on the world in 1997 is not the original trilogy. the original trilogy was released between 1977-1983 and did not need changing. It made tons of money won lots of academy awards and pretty much was loved universally by film fans of any ilk. Kids and parents both equally loved the movies. Even old timers who remembered the golden age of hollywood loved the series.

Millions of people loved the movies except one man hated them George Lucas, so he went back hacked them up and butchered them for his own reasons.  I would not mind if this was a personal fan edit by lucas that he watched in his own home but instead has buried the originals forever.  The gout was the last nail in the coffin.

Info Wanted: a Fan Restoration of the uncut 'who framed roger rabbit' - using the new remastered dvd and the 1988 laserdisc - has one ever been done?
Time

Not much was changed except for a few frames of nudity of Jessica Rabbit the studio had to go and pull a disney and censor.

If you count the censored version and the repainted version on dvd there are three versions of that scene alone.

I won't lose sleep over it, but like the censoring done sometimes on the tex avery cartoons i find it retarded.

Next thing you know disney will release a heavily censored and politically correct song of the south if at all.

George Lucas interviews
Time

I remember hearing about the restoration of the oot which the SE started out as, then George lost his marbles and added cgi that did not belong in a 1970's movie, 1980's movie series.

If it was just a straight up restoration as we had been promised history would be different.  NO bad special editions and even worse prequel sequels.

AOTC bloopers
Time

The entire prequel trilogy is a blooper, aka as the mistake we wish could be undone.

Some bloopers can be funny. The prequels are a big steaming pile of shit, considering that the poop and fart jokes in the phantom menace make a sort of sense.

When jar jar steps in poop, what he is actually stepping in is George lucas prequel turd mess. Icky-icky goo, indeed. LOL

Just curious is all.

I know there was an xvid by some flair guy but i don’t have a membership to rapidshare aka rapishit.

I’ve read that was a low quality xvid when someone probably could produce a dvd quality version using all the available footage.

looking for LOTR (Bakshi) original version
Time

Without having a copy of the vhs in my possession i cannot say for certain whether or not it has the original ending narration.

It is fairly obvious why the change was made since part 2 was never made and will never be made.

The only things produced on part 2 the script, storyboards and A and B rolls of film and some animation cells.

The A and B rolls apparently are no longer in existance and for years bakshi has been selling the production art so no preservation can now be made.

His site has the deleted scenes mostly unfinished from part 1.

I have always wanted to read the script by Peter s. Beagle and he tried to have it published but was blocked by Saul Zaentz inc. His script before it was revised and filmed was way more faithful l to the tolkien books than any Peter Jackson tinkering.

The score is way too much like star trek IV, or star trek IV score is too much like lord of the rings in actuallity since the composer Leonard Rosenman plagiarised his own work. Who can blame him as the lord of the rings film made no money and was a box office flop of the ages.

George's original unaltered trilogy

It was created to place the blame at his doorstep where it belongs.

in 2006 laserdisc master was used 4:3  interlaced letterbox telecine from 1993, and released as bonus disc. LOL!

Non anamorphic not using the full resolution of even standard definition dvd, and now we are going into the blu ray era.

Next thing you know lucasfilms will release the first non anamorphic blu ray from a laserdisc master, LMFAO.

What about the Remastered Star Trek or E.T.
Time

They had to redo the effects on star trek since all those years ago paramount dumpstered the original effects masters and elements. They could not recombine them with the HD remastered video like George lucas had done in 1997 since he saved everyone of the original elements.

I find it appaling paramount had those effects masters thrown away but they did that on almost every show and movie back in the day.

We should be thankful the original camera negatives were saved vaulted somewhere and untouched since they were shot.

Richard Edlund worked on the old star trek show so some of those effects that were dumpstered he actually worked on. He like a lot of people who worked on the show are not listed in the credits.

Darren Dochterman should have been the one to do the new effects work for trek purists, but they gave it over to cbs digital in house because that way they could streamline the process get them out quickly and on the cheap.  Me personally i wanted those guys who did the effects on the enterprise show since there effects reel was the best.  Not sure i think their name is edenfx.

Darth Vader is in Soul Calibur 4!

This is simply marketing, they did something similar with the last dead or alive franchise game when they had a female master chief. Hell even nintendos last smash brothers series game had solid snake.

Why are people so surpised star wars is george lucas marketing whore for the highest profit.   After seeing those prequel and less than special editions people did not get the picture.

Do you feel like this: pre-1977 to 1983 is the real Star Wars Canon
Time

How about Leia's real mother did not originally die and was in hiding.

This is what i put together reading the very small reference in the jedi novelization.

The original idea was probably she was one of the early leaders of the rebellion, was in hiding until palpatine found her when she went to visit her baby on alderaan at the organas and was arrested tried for treason and executed.

The drama would have been very strong here because she would expect anakin/vader to protect her from palpatine but he stands back and does nothing when she is put to death. Perhaps she was tortured to find the skywalker heir, or obi wan's hiding place?

These are far better story points than "she died of a broken heart". Like Luke says in that g4 parody "that is retarded" and i have to agree.

The sifo-dyas thing is easily explained in the episode II shooting script it was sido-dyas aka sidious. Lucas thought it would be too obvious and give away the fact that palpatine the senator was actually a sith lord, as if we did'nt already know that from the original trilogy and episode 1, LOL.

This is not the first time the canon of the oot has been changed. Up until the release of episode II obi wan was owen lars brother. Read the return of the jedi novelization, it was in the script at one point as well and talked about by kasden and lucas during story conferences. Whether or not this scene was actually filmed?

I think the dialogue was changed before they had guiness read his lines since it gave away too much if lucas wanted to make those prequels.

Up until the prequels the G-canon or george lucas canon was, the movies, the novelizations and the radio dramas.   At that point in time remember their were only 2 radio plays jedi was done in 95, or 96?  and did not feature mark hamill.  Also i don't find that play authentic to the canon since they added mara jade as a character as a dancer in jabba's palace arica.

That kind of puts it in the realm of an EU piece.

Does anyone else here agree with me that TPM is the best of the PT?
Time

The best reason why episode 1 is the best of the prequel trilogy is not in terms of content, But that it was actually shot on 35mm motion picture film.

This is why 2 and 3 look like a videogame, LOL.

But did'nt you know digital is better you will say as Lucas has hoodwinked all those tfn gushers into believing the myth and drinking the cool aide.

He tried to sell all of us star wars fans a pig in a poke with the prequels.  We should not have gotten fooled again but we did, we hoped Indiana Jones IV would'nt suffer the same fate.  Well at least Spielberg shot it on film good decision and only good on the entire movie.

Info Wanted: Batman (60s tv series) - has any preserved them?
Time

fan projects and preservations should never be sold period.

The best thing to do and put the guy out of business is accquire one set and then pif them free of charge except for b+p, and put it up on the newsgroups and the torrent sites.

unless they are printed on gold plated dvd's or all dual layer discs whatever price the guy sells them for short of a few bucks to cover blanks and postage is highway robbery.

You can get a 50 rack of taiyo yuden sl for next to nothing these days if you win a cheap auction on ebay like me. i paid about 15 bucks.

I find it funny that the 60's movie is getting released on blu ray and the tv show the movie belongs to is not even on dvd.

Did anybody see Wall-E?
Time

i'm not too sure, but that looks like to me to be a false domestic take since it looks like it includes all the numerous re-releases as well as the 97 special edition. it should be adjusted to reflect only the 1977 gross adjusted.

Plus if we are talking about not readjusted gross titanic is still number 1 and no star wars film ever beat it. Sad but true and no movie has yet to break its record of #1.

Return of the King and Revenge of the Sith made valiant efforts, even rotk tied titanic for number of oscars.

I am kind of biased when it comes to Wall E since i loved artoo detoo in star wars and ben burtt worked on wall e, so i like the movie.   I do hate the pc save the earth garbage but i'm not sure it was overly done, still i wonder if they had al snore as adviser on this film.

Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis (Released)
Time

Does anyone actually have the laserdisc rip that is out there with the music videos on it?

I had it once and gave it away in trade. I wish i had a copy to watch as the laserdisc goes for over a hundred dollars just for the japan version with the burnt in subtitles and analog only sound. The only copy i can find for sale of the digital us release goes for 200.00 and a guy in japan owns it.

I wish i had the laserdisc so i could rip the sound full bitrate pcm and not some overly compressed mpeg audio or fake dolby 2.0.

I have spoken to those who saw this in theaters and they say the soundtrack was awesome. I wish someone who had a film print could somehow extract the audio, LOL.

It is probably more likely the germans who got the neverending story for the same reason they got the superior blu ray release of dune. I have always wanted to see the true cut of the neverending story with the real music, the american version is an attrocious piece of crap as far as i'm concerned since i have read the Michael Ende novel.

I'll take a dark symphonic score over an 80's chick rock band ballad anyday.

I do prefer the original organ score as re-recorded by Kino. of course they did not have the technology to record sound back then or it was in its infancy, so the score was played live while the movie was shown like a silent film.

Still the 80's rock soundtrack and color tinting i find amusing in its own way.

Though 24fps was not proper speed for metropolis i read on some german site it was 16fps.  or supposedly this was how it was made.  but was shown 26fps at the berlin premiere which is weird.

The amount of money a film makes is no bar to how creative and artistic a film is.

The prequels made shit loads more money than the original versions of the original star wars trilogy and they suck as far as i'm concerned.

More than suck, actually they are a complete unmitigated unforgivable travesty of a classic, so far watered down now for the kiddies. and they added fake cgi for the bubblegum brained morons who like this shit better.

If the amount of money a film makes is the only important factor then films the dumbed down american public goes to see, (aka the average stupid american who watches american idol), are the most sucessful and artful films ever made.

The love scenes in AOTC
Time

Yes you are so right he is so rich, that 20th century fox turned down that bad videogame cgi cutscene called clone wars and he had to get warners to release it.

After the shoddy prequels regardless of how much money they made any studio in their right mind would turn down any new star wars film or tv show.

It is just going to be crap, crap and more crap.

I am pretty close to saying goobye to star wars as a fan after what Lucas had done to it, nothing more than a cash cow.

How would have fans thought back in the day if you told them star wars would be bled dry just like paramount did to Gene Roddenberry's star trek. Lucas sees star wars as just another money making property he cares nothing for the universe and its characters as evidanced by his burying of the oot for all time.

Also he could not leave his ruination to star wars He also ruined THX 1138 and now he ruins Indiana Jones with a movie so bad it should return "to the space between the spaces"

Star wars original trilogy 1977-1983 R.I.P.

Did anybody see Wall-E?

I thought wall E was an awesome film and was right on target quality wise for pixar.

It was nice to see Ben Burtt work on another film than star wars.

The director of wall E next project is based on the John Carter of mars series, they better get it right.  A Princess Of Mars is one of my all time favorite space fantasy novels, and frazetta's paintings brought them pretty well to life.  Too bad if they take out all the nudity, sex, and violence i don't want to see it.

Since it is disney and from being a purist as a burroughs fan seeing the abomination that was the animated tarzan i cannot get my hopes up.
