My Favorite of the 3 original films is Return of the Jedi.

I don't think it is the best made, the best written or directed of the three.  But I like it because it was my fave as a kid.  I would not hesitate buying a print if i had the money and came across one.  Funny that it is the most hated of the original three.  The one where People think George Started to Lose his marbles because of the ewoks,lol.

Have you physically cleaned the film because it looks scratched to hell like it was played in a misaligned projector thirty times.  I wonder what your friend paid for this print, probably thousands of dollars.  I have seen screen grabs from the derann 8mm scope that looked in better shape.  Too bad they don't make it anymore since their negative broke and their license expired.  Your print looks about on par in sharpness and colors with your super8mm project.  Great Quality for a fan project.  But not near gout quality as you have said previously.  The only thing that will put it above the gout to me is the mono mix and anamorphic not letterbox.  and letterbox prints do exist out there.

So is this like a Military or hospital print or a very bad 16mm dupe off the 35mm?

Some of those foreign markets back in the day had 16mm bootleg prints.

Too bad the Film Telecine Labs would not touch this and if they did it would be expensive as hell.  Still would a rank wetgate transfer get finer detail, i'm not sure.

Damn Lucas, warner bros developed a process To restore Technicolor films as seen on their breakthrough robin hood transfer.  If Lucas would only do that for star wars i was born in 1978 so i have never been able to see star wars in true technicolor.  I have read about the beautiful dye transfer technicolor prints in 70mm with six track sound and baby boom.  I wish i had a time machine.

One of the VistaVision cameras used on star wars was actually used on the ten commandments.  Supposedly it gives a negative area bigger than traditional 35mm.

Back in the seventies they were not able to ulilize all the sharpness and detail that was in the camera negative and that could be done with modern tech but Lucas is to cheap to pay for it or prefers videogame cutscene like cgi graphics.

The original star wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were so Lovingly created as can be seen in the cinematography, i mean real cinematography not video but film.

Are those the raw images or are they denoised and color corrected if so what does the film actually look like?

If that is the true color then you have a very good print, but it looks overly bright so i thought it was done in processing, whatever.

To be honest the last Speilberg Pictures i enjoyed were Minority Report and AI and they were far from perfect, but Speilberg like Lucas has more flops than sucesses.

Amistad, Jurassic Park II, War of the Worlds, Munich, Catch me if you can all terrible movies.  Then their is temple of doom, 1941, hook etc.  With gems like Close Encounters, Jaws and Raiders, as well as e.t. along the way.  As well as modern films that are undeniable classics like private ryan and shindlers list.  With films Like the first Jurassic Park that are middle of the road and far from a terrible movie, you just feel cheated if you read the book first because the book was amazing and the movie was ok to pretty entertaining. 

What on the other hand has Lucas done since 1983 and return of the jedi except bring back beloved franchises and crap all over them.  I would have had no problems if the new star wars and jones features were like the old ones and not video game cutscenes with cgi and zero story.  Lucas and Speilberg are supposed to be directors of films not videogames that you watch instead of play.  Games are great as a medium i just don't pay to see them in the cinemas.  and There are games that have far better stories even witn their recycled cliche plots unlike modern lucas films.

I feel the Same way about Robert Zemechis i do about Spielberg and Lucas, Beowulf was an awful, awful movie.  And that train movie just bored me to tears though my niece and nephew loved the book.  I guess i should be glad he did not make a back to the future 4 following Lucas and Spielbergs example and crap all over the originals with bad cgi and script.  Though II and III while entertaining are pretty crap movies compared to part 1 which stands on its own and is a classic, probably the only good thing bob z ever did right in the film business.

Return of the Jedi and Last crusade were perfect notes to end on and we did not need more.  sometimes less is more and is proven in this case where the franchises have become incridibly lackluster in story but filled to the brim with CGI and technical pizazz.

I guess i can stomach the horrible prequels though, because if they were not made and made so much money we probably would not have gotten the much superior Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I probably could abide the prequels if they were some other bad sci fi movie, but the have star wars on them.  these movies don't measure up at all to the originals.  The thing any new star wars is measured against is empire strikes back Anything comes short of it it sucks.  Similar that in indiana jones every movie is measured against raiders.  Return of the Jedi and Last Crusade were not perfect movies but they still had yet to lapse into total suckdom.

People should recal the first time Lucas made a prequel and shudder, it was Temple of doom.  The next time he made a prequel was young indy and that sucked as well, except for maybe some of the sean patrick flannery ones and still they were no raiders.  I give them that Trenches of Hell was genius.  other than that it was phoned in and riding off nostalgia and the coatails of the trilogy sound familiar?  The same thing happened with Phantom menace, attack of the clones and revenge of the sith and kingdom of the crystal skull.

I don't think their is a single thing i loved as a kid that has come out unscathed in hollywood.  Transformers by bay was an abomination, Gi Joe probably will be too as well as the masters of the universe remake and thundercats remake, and voltron remakes.  Even Superman was ruined by Bryan Singer who was at the time both the savior of the comic book movie and the x-men franchise.  X-3 by that Other dude was frickin awful.

I've been done this road before with the awful batman and robin, the awful superman III and IV, and the ang lee hulk.  Thankfully Iron Man and Dark Knight are good movies.  I cannot believe i payed 10 bucks to see indy 4 instead of iron man.  I also paid to see that gay Spidey 3 movie and passed on Pirates 3 but that is another story.

Well it is pretty true fans got their childhood raped twice.  First the 3 prequels and then indiana jones IV.

While the creators of south park may make light of this fact i want my ten dollars back for indiana jones IV.  The movie was like a huge fuck you to the fanbase, that you wish was an april fools joke that came late in may.  That movie was the biggest peice of shit since the star wars prequels i have ever seen.  I left the theater feeling empty, angry and betrayed.  I wish someone would start a petition demanding Lucas and Speilberg to retire and Stop making movies, they fucking suck as directors now.

Seriously though the scene where Indy shoots the arab swordsman has always been a favorite even though the radical islam  use movies like that as an excuse for 911 and hating the usa.

I am suprised the arab swordsman does not now try running indy through and misses Like greedo shooting first.

The indiana jones special editions trilogy when released will have bad and fakely added cgi and walkie talkies instead of guns.

Another favorite scene is from true lies when the radical islam terrorist is on the missile and arnold says " you're fired!" and blows the helicopter to hell and the dude with the missile, lol.

Sci Fi shows can have a huge fanbase and still not be saved.  A million fans got together writing to paramount to save enterprise and they still got the axe, and a similar situation happened with Journeyman.

They don't care that there may be millions of potential viewers or fans.  They want these shows to get the same ratings as puke reality shows like American Idol.  I am surprised just how idiotic and dumb the average american is and how they all have add.  Even in the 2lst century they don't get science fiction.  But then again this would explain why younger generations ate up the substanceless prequels and indy 4 and clone wars, Our technology gets better generation while the kids get dumber.

Not only do these stupid excutives cancel these sci fi shows and replace them with inferior ones, but when they dump the cancelled shows to dvd like paramount and charge 120 dollars a season and say see the dvd sales there never was any audience for this show to begin with.

Fox are morons they cancelled futurama because it was not the simpsons in outer space, and they cancelled Space Above and Beyond because it was not Star Wars for tv that they wanted.  X-files should have been canceled after the first few seasons. 

Many Cotto could have saved enterprise though the show died because of the firing of rick berman as star treks head honcho.  Because of the lackluster nemesis movie and they also cancelled the romulan wars movie penned by the screenwriter of band of brothers.  They went in a completely different direction with a reboot and jj movie.  and are currently in talks for a sixth television series.

Why would they cancel this show right when they are trying to sell us on that mcg trilogy.  Which even with Christian Bail sounds to be full of fail all over.

You know that Salvation Movie that is supposed to be rated pg-13 and have lots of bad fake cgi, instead of makeup and animatronics.  Al little Cgi goes a long way.  I think Carmeron even got carried away in t2 on the effects.

Both the Ntsc and pal releases of the gout were taken from a 480i D2 master tape.

Laserdiiscs are interlaced.

Just becuase they flagged the dvd as fake progressive does not make it a progressive scan transfer.

Any more than a fake resizing to anamorphic would make it an anamorphic  release.

So i watched the movie and the first 2 episodes and they are all garbage as far as i am concerned.

Typical modern Lucas, wow look at the nice computer graphics we can do.  Asolutely without subtance just like Indiana Jones 4.  Things just get continually worse.  The star wars prequels were pretty crappy But Revenge of the Sith is worlds better than clone wars, and indiana jones IV.  Even with Harrison in that movie it is still awful.

Brings up the idea to me just how lucas would get episodes 7-9 wrong if there were made.  You would have the same actors and cgi and zero story and laughable script and dialogue.

If the Dialogue is as awful as it was in the movie and the comic book then i will not bother watching it even for free.

George is a Billionaire you figure he could at least hire somebody who can write.  I will not give them a pass simply because it is a childrens show.

Seems like they are trying to carry the show on the visuals alone and not even bother about the awful dialogue.

They can still do the stories and animation they want and not insult the intelligence of kids and adults everywhere with the talking scenes.

And the flirting is disgusting Ahsoka is not even 18 years old and akakin is married. If he went that route not only against the jedi code and cheating on his wife but also a pedophile.  But then again he is a mass murderer of children in revenge of the sith so i guess it sort of fits his character.

How much i wish That the prequels and special editions never existed so  questions like this one would not have to be asked, and would be irrelevant.

This like the question on versions of the movies would not have to be debated if the saga ended in 1983 like it should have.

All Lucas did was go back and destroy 2 of the favorite franchises of my youth, and added Bad and fake cgi where it was neither wanted or needed.

1999 Phantom Menace was hard to stomach Racist Characters like Jar Jar and the Gungans, and the Nemodians.  Poop and Fart Jokes and writing that could have been put together by a juvenile moron.

This movie is awful just as i predicted it would be.  A slap in the face to Toriyama fans everywhere. 

The Chow Yun fat voice over is awful.  THe costumes and fighting remind me of batman and robin.

It is almost as if they decided to make a Live action movie based on Final Fantasy and shit all over it.

The one thing i have heard people say is "bulma actress is hot i'll see it for that".

The worst idea since disney tried making a starblazers film based off of Space Battleship Yamato and renamed the Yamato the Uss Arizona.  I have no problem with it being renamed the argo because at least that brings up the story of jason and the argonauts mythic journey for the golden fleece, similar to the star forces Journey for the Cosmo DNA, or Cosmo Cleaner.

The phrase was actually coined by that Altman guy who directed free enterprise. After he saw the special edition of star wars in 1997 he said something like " Wow that was like watching 2 hours of your childhood being raped".  THe guy who has never appologized for being a bigger star trek fan than a star wars fan.  The guy who Likes Kirk Better than Han Solo, fantasized Kirk kicking solos ass.  Thinks Kirk is a cooler dude and more of a ladies man than han, in essense an uber nerd who needs to fucking get a life.

The KIng Midas Myth Reference is too funny.  Everything MIdas Touched Turned to Gold because of a wish made of avarice, so it was a curse.  In comparison Everything Lucas has touched since 1994 has turned to shit instead of Gold.  But the avarice and greed of a king midas who is selfish and greedy and a rich prick may hit too close for comfort.

If they could have kept this looking gritty and realistic looking like the oot, and have that Live action feel to the 3D rendered animation as well as a good story and that Classic 77 lived in look of the old spaceships i would be the first to hail it as a return to form.  Sadly it continues the same Bad Prequel Characters we hate like Anakin Emo Goth Wannabe, and bad cgi wooden animation and incredibly awful plot and voice acting.

The should have Done a show based in the new republic era or a anthology series drawing from all the Different eras and not Only Focus on Jedi, sith or the Skywalkers. 

The Skywalker story is sacred to the fans and Lucas fucked it over by first not making 7-9, and producing awful cringe worthy prequels unworthy of the name star wars.

Hey at least the 2010 or whatever year the live action show is coming out won't further ruin the Skywalker clans storyline, as if any further ruin could be produced.  He will further wreck Boba Fett for that show, but I don't see that prequel character as fett only the oot one so i don't care what he shits all over.

I always thought it was well known that there was a script for Indy 4 called "Indiana Jones and The Saucer Men From Mars".  Real script, real title not fake.  George Lucas wrote the story and he paid some other dude to pen the screenplay which he showed to Steven And Harrison in 2003 i believe and they passed on it because of the rediculousness of the Alien THing and the magguffin being a crystal skull.

Fast forward a few years and we get the very same fucking thing Spielberg and Ford fought Lucas over, why they caved, i'm thinking dollar signs not for creative reasons.  There used to be a saying "Cash or Kudos" Lucas seduced Spielberg to the Dark Side of Cgi, and Speilbergs Love for That Transformers kid from even Stevens disney show ruined the movie.

I believe a documentary a very good one i've heard of but Never seen was Made on the Tuskugee Airmen.  George Lucas rewrites history and does not repect it He is the last man on earth who should be even near this movie.

Despite the Existance of the Gout, before that he pretty much wiped the oot from history and existance and butchered the oneg to make a videogame cartoon out of a classic trilogy.

We were denied a Kotor III that showed what happened to revan in the Unknown regions for this peice of shit that craps all over oot continuity.

Some of the worst voice acting i have literally ever heard.

The cutscenes are far less cinematic than the first 2 Kotor games and feel like the bad cgi of the prequels.

I don't care for this cardboard cutout starkiller character.  I like the Stories of Revan, Keyan Farlander, and Kyle Katarn.  Fans of the old movies wrote those and Lucas had zero involvement to crap all over them.

By the way the Farlander papers described the founding of the rebellion in a far better way.  Also The Radio Drama, and old star wars novels.  Tim Zahn's version of events was described in the thrawn trilogy.  ac crispin's han solo trilogy and the correlian trilogy also elaborated on it. Even the west end game supplements were better.

The Lucas canon version in force unleashed is stupid, goes against the novelization and deleted scenes in revenge of the sith.  Seriously this guy thought having palpatine as anakin's father was a good idea in an earlier script draft for episode III.

I mean could you see the revised return of the jedi in this instance Palpatine to Luke " I am your grandfather.  You see i created Your father by manipulating midichlorians as darth plagueis the wise taught me"lol.

Fuck Lucasharts i will buy Mass Effect 2 as soon as it is released by bioware and will support a bioware kotor III, but that is it.

So the Godfather restoration was released on Blu Ray and Dvd Restored by Robert Harris and nobody on these forums had anything to say about it much less review the set.

Lucas should pay Harris to overhaul the oneg for star wars and restore it back to its 77 incarnation.

Never going to happen.  Which is too damn bad i guess.

So despite the traffic on this site for adywans super duper special editions to make Lucas green with envy, this site has all but been dead since the gout was released in 2006.  There used to be a lot of preservation projects, that were awesome.  a Couple are in the works here but not that much compared to yesteryear.  This site has become a faneditors like forum where people make their own home brew special editions when the original idea for this site was a properly remastered dvd release of the originals in anamorphic.

2 projects i am interested in Puggo grande, and Jambe Davdar's star wars documentary.

Other than those 2 the most promising was the X-0 Project which is now dead, though the thread gets revived like an undead Zombie.  and people keep beating that old dead horse like vbangle.

It should be like the close encounters and Blade Runner boxsets which included restored versions of the theatrical cuts in Anamorphic Widescreen.

Personally I would prefer just a boxset of the oot fully restored and anamorphic at this point, in decent quality and i would settle for it barebones as much as i want deleted scenes.

But Lucas will never pay to restore the originals he said so through his spokesperson Lynn Hale.  So i will never buy another thing from Lucas again especially after the debacles that are the special editions, the prequels, the clone wars movie Force Unleashed and Indiana Jones IV.  Unless it be fully restored theatrical Versions of the original Indiana Jones Trilogy and Star Wars trilogy.

You Could not Give Me those turds Clone Wars and Indiana Jones IV for free on blu ray i would throw them right in the trash where they belong, sell them or give them away.

He was great in Butch Cassidy and the sundance Kid.

Newman's own Lemonaded Ice Tea, Microwave Popcorn and Italian Salad Dressing are pretty good also.

I have to disagree with the news reports of him being the most noticeable and famous actor having those blue eyes, that would actually be Crooner and actor Frank Sinatra who they called Micky Blue eyes.

I don't get it they were able to get Prowse back for some obscure star wars boardgame vhs, but they could not use him for either the special editions or the prequels.

They even got Gil Taylor to do the shoot for that game. 

Both Taylor and Prowse have been banned in the past by Lucas because they did something that angered him.

Prowse For leaking fake script dialogue that was fed him on purpose to look like an ass, when Guiness and Hamill Were Given the real dialogue at the last minute.  Prowse told the Press that Obi Wan was Luke's father. lol. 

Gil Taylor fought Lucas on the location shoots in Africa And On the Elstree set.  He did not like the Gauze lenses that Lucas had told him to use, so he changed them with Kurtz okay and Lucas was so furious he wanted him fired but Left it up to Kurtz.

I like the original Trilogy Vader helmet because It reminds me of both a german world war II helmet and a samurai helmet from feudal japan.  I like how menacing and Black it was in star wars and empire strikes back.  I like the eye lenses better in empire though.  Jedi made the suit far too pristine and shiny and Sith was just the epitome of horrible.  Anything designed on a computer versus traditional design is shit.

And they Got Chad Vader for Force Unleashed instead of James Earl Jones, and some terrible actor to replace Ian for the Emperor.  Both ideas speak of fail on the part of Lucas or should i say Greedo, as i like to call him now or better yet LucashFilms Limited on Integrity and Ideas.

I had always thought Lucasfilm said the Blue White Saber of Kenobi in Star Wars '77 was a prototype Lightsaber and they never had the time or money to get it right or how they wanted it to look. It always looked Like a spinning rod with 3M motion picture screen tape on it.

Yes if you want it to look how it looked in 1977 you would reproduce the Unfinished Saber that was Painstaking Animated frame by frame onto the film, Although you would still have that funny scene were his saber turns off in the duel and you see the prop in Guiness hand,lol.

Going Back in and redoing it they wanted to make the saber consistant with empire strikes back and return of the jedi.  But then they decided to Prequel-ize the sabers and the Colors as well, that was shit.

The thing is The prequels are not even worth 15 seconds of your life.  Much Less Six hours.  and People waited sixteen years for episode 1 absolutely pathetic.

You know the saying "fool me once shame on you.  Fool me twice shame on me."  Lucas fooled people 6 times
