I never watch the 2004 special edition or the prequels, much less the 1997 edit.

Star Wars was just star wars Episode IV is revisionist bullshit like calling raiders of the lost ark, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost ark.

The pictures really should be replaced with a picture of George Lucas in one picture frame and in the other Jar Jar Binks,lol.

Also any shot where Indy holds a gun should be replaced with a walkie talkie.

So apparently George Lucas raped some peoples childhoods as early as 1983,lol.  Too bad these people back then could not see into the future and Jar JAr Binks and Episode 1 or they would have been singing Return of the Jedi's Praises in comparison.

I would like to see the Filmgoers complaints of Temple of Doom to compare with the Crystal Skull bad reviews from fans.

Even in 1997 they were spared the godawful 2004 trilogy edit that added Hayden to the ghost trio, and jar jar binks to the celebration scene on return of the jedi.  Add to that the unecessary change of Boba Fetts cool voice with a prequel actors phoned in replacement dialogue, in empire strikes back.  Greedo still shoots first.  and Jabba still does not Look quite right though not as bad as he did in 1997.

The fucked up colors on the 2004 set are a dissaster and so is the sound mix on star wars with muted and reversed surround channels.  Deliberate Creative Decision, yeah right we all believe you George.  Apparently quality control and hiring testers of these products no longer matters because Lucas had his built in TFN fanbase that drinks up the kool aide.

Crystal Skull was shit also and i thankfully only saw it in theaters once.  I saw Last Crusade in theaters twice and to this day along with Raiders it is one of my favorite films of all time.  I typically pretend temple of doom never happened but Crystal Skull was worse than temple of doom.  I guess 2 out of 4 is not bad, but 2 out of 6 or 3 out of 6 for star wars, give me a break.  Half the movies or more sucked.  There was no reason to go back and ruin the old good ones to fit the new bad ones.

If Lucas was still at the height of his powers like in 1977 or 1980 then he should have done star wars episode 7.  Luke was a character we could all root for i could not give a shit less about Gayden Skystalker whiny emo queer.  Obi Wan left him to burn on mustafar and good riddance.

If it was Lucas point that we would care for Anakin and feel sorry for him he failed miserably.  But if his point was to make us hate anakin and Vader and root for Luke to Murder him in the originals he succeded.  I'm sure that if Luke knew Vader mudered his mother he would have cut him down on the death star II because he would deserve it, such a selfish prick and muderor of small children in the hundreds does not deserve redemption.

Anakin could have killed Palpatine and brought justice to the Republic, done his duty as a jedi and been a husband to padme and a father to his children.  Instead he decided to be a no good douchebag.

There is something really sick about Lucas removing Luke as the Hero and replacing Him with Vader as the hero for all six movies.  That is about as nuts as somebody making Six films with Hitler as the hero.

Bring Back Star Wars.  they should do a show called "let it die" featuring Indiana Jones and Star Wars.  A Merciful death when the series meant something instead of just being a cash cow for an overweight aging hack.  Star Wars died in 1983 and Indiana Jones in 1989.  They shall be remembered, but no Zombie revivals to lag on into suckdom were needed.  NO crazed usage of cgi and videogame reject cutscenes are needed either.

If Lucas excuses for this and the poor writing were because of simple budgetry constraints because he is an Independant film maker outside of the studio system, i say they should never have been made if they were meant to suck from day 1 when he first put pencil to paper on nov 1 1994.

Star wars at its gayest hmm.  Lets see.  Would Say when Jar Jar first appeared on screen speaking ebonics and stepped in poo.  Others would say it is a tie between the holiday special, the marvel jedi bunny, jar jar binks, the ewoks and hayden,lol.

Though i must say personally i found emo hayden  dearth gayder pretty much owns all gayness,lol.

Standard definition DVD is fine enough for those us who don't have a 16:9 HDTV.  I have a Standard definition tv set properly calibrated and the gout still looks like shit on it.  Believe it or not anamorphic transfers look better on a 4:3 tv as well than letterbox transfers because they yield a sharper image.

480i anamorphic is of course better than a 380i  4:3 letterbox laserdisc transfer master tape D2. Especially since the dvnr smearing is so awful that was used to try and cover up things apparent on the pre thx releases which funny enough look more consistant, though they apparently color corrected them on the THX release.

Does anyone know the resolution and picture information lost when converting a 2:35:1 Large Negative area cinemacope film to 4:3 letterbox interlaced video?

I remember somebody once said like 25% where a 4:3 pan and scan loses 40%.

actually i loved tng the series but the movies sucked.  on average they were pretty mediocre or like tv episodes up on the big screen.

Generations, first contact, insurrection all felt like tv episodes extended.  Nemesis is probably the only one which tried for the big theatrical movie appoach and failed miserably.  The shows strengths were that it was a serial based show with some stand alone episodes and the characters had a chance to be developed through seven seasons but they never really did develop at all.  Deep space nine had much better writing and characterization but Lacked the Spacehip Earth type thing.  Well at least until they put in the defiant but a little too late.

And now Patrick Stewart is more well known to the kiddies as Professor X of X-men than Jean Luc Picard.  That being said i always Liked Kirk, bones, and spock they were so much better characters and the old show was very clearly a space western.   Then when During Star Trek II came along meyer made it into a naval type series like horatio hornblower.

Well the new trek is clearly going to suck no models only cgi, and those overly bright HD color from video and not film.

Just based on the few shots up there i hate the movie and jj already.  When he asid they were gonna do so star wars in trek he was clearly emphasizing the bad prequels and not the ones shot with models and motion control cameras.  You know the real star wars trilogy.  just like treks 1-6 are the only real trek films though first contact was ok.

The model Dysktra and Trumbell used on star trek the motion picture should have never been sold.  That model was beautiful.  Now some asshole rich trekky has it either in his addic or basement.

With Enterprise and Nemesis they went fully digital and not for the better the spaceships all look too pristine and unreal.  and the bad acting in nemesis really was on par with the star wars prequels.  The only thing i like about the movie is the soundtrack by goldsmith, too bad Jerry died and now some upstart gets to score the new movie.

Guess who is doing the lackluster cgi fakery yes you guessed right the boys at ILM.  So yes this movie will look like the bad star wars movies.  overly bright graphics, crushed whites and blacks and video game color scheme.

You know who gave this turd an advance good review Kevin Smith the same jerk who gave phantom menace a good review.  Who also Raved about Dark Knight and Watchmen.  I think they could suck too, well maybe not dark knight, lol.

The Phantom Menace is fair game for bashing it sucked, and so did Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and Kingdom of the Crystal skull.  Lucas should retire end of story.

If the new trek movie is being compared to menace than i might a well be prepared for an utter dissaster of such absolute failure and sucking we will never see the end of it.

That shot does not meet Lucas original vision.  The mops have to be replaced with much more realistic CGI mops and all the dude's heads have to have jar jar's head superimposed over theirs,lol.

I find it ironic that those who fell in Love with the 1997 versions cannot get those on dvd either, because lucas sees them as rought cuts just like he views the oot which was a finished movie trilogy despite his bullshit.

Actually the fans of that version get fucked over even worse because Unlike the oot which was released on dvd in a letterbox laserdisc transfer the 1997 version remains only on vhs and laserdisc.

I don't understand negative one's point.  So because i have the trilogy on vhs, laserdisc and ced i should not ask for a restored version on dvd?  Or how about a real restoration which would make the oot viable as a theatrical presentation via Robert Harrris suggestion.  In robert harris own words a home video restoration is not a real restoration unless the negative had been restored and viable prints can be made for theatrical presentation.  And a home video restoration is all fans have asked for and lucas will not even do that little for his fans.

I personally wish the negatives and original prints were not rotting in Lucas vaults because they could be lost for all time, a criminal offense.  In the future the films will only be viable as a 1080P HD video transfer with all the bogus cgi additions.  That is all lowry had access to by the way.   no 4k or 2k scan was ever done.  There is no evidance that any film prints or negatives are in existance unless Lucas allows someone into the vaults to document that.

The only evidance i can find is from around the special editions making and is called the anotomy of a dewback part 2 and shows the Lucas cold storage vault for all his films, and he says he has saved every peice of film of every movie he has done.

As robert harris has also suggested despite the criminal altering of the negative the technology is there to bring it back to its original state.  The original scenes that are missing in the oneg would have to be replaced from someplace else.  Like if Lucas still has those YCM  technicolor seperations he talked about in the future of the movies book by siskel and ebert.

So i call bullshit on him saying that all film prints and negatives are destroyed.  He would have had to be insane to have done this, that would be like a film museum destroying the original Mona Lisa. Not only that it would be against sane business practices since millions of people worldwide clamor for the original released films.  Even the french who support lucas wholeheartedly and at cannes film festival bashed his decision to not have anamorphic versions on the 2006 release.

Only in Lucas version of reality which i call Bizarro world do fans have to track down heavily faded 35mm film prints that are 30 years old to watch the real star wars trilogy.  This is beyond insane!

These CGi changes are generally done on video and then printed out onto a new film master, no other films i know of have had them cut into the physical original Negative.  Someone out there should find out through Pacific Title and YCM LAboratories who worked on the 1997 restoration if the negative was really permanently altered or destroyed.  Though i imagine Lucas had them sign a non disclosure agreement.  It is very fascist to control the information on the state of the negative and keep it under wraps, Only communists or facists operate in this manner.

Indiana Jones and the Big Bang sounds like a bad porno title.  In Fact They should have used it as the title of that recently infamous south park episode.

Infodroid if i remember correctly the darabount script had no wedding and no shia lebouf character.  So you removed the wedding but not shia.  Better than nothing i suppose.

Kingdom of the Gods i think has since been reused by Dark Horse Comics for their new indy comic.

This game would have been awesome if you played as vader throughout the entire game and hunted down the remaining jedi.  You Know what episode III should have been, and what got basically moved to the Dark Horse comics purge.

But of course the clone wars and jedi purge had to be told in a multitude of media to maximize profits.  It is all about the greenbacks for Lucas, the story is completely secondary hell you don't need a script as long as you have cgi,lol.

Since then we read about the republic jedi vessel outbound flight. 

Supposedly and i am relying on memory here did'nt the republic have a fleet of warships and no way to crew them because of years and years of piece and no wars, so they needed the clones?  Or were the old fleets decomissioned and a whole new one built up by palpatine?  I was under the impression at that point the republic had no military, and no protection except for the jedi.

I mean seriously if the republic was not a joke they would have had a capable military and political senate and would not need the jedi.  Lucas basically made democracy look like a joke, and they need a theocracy like the jedi to run everything.

The reason the fandom is fractured as you say AxiaEuxine is because of Lucas.  I mean really it is his fault he had made it into a generational conflict by Denying the existance of the originals and not putting out a qualtiy dvd release of them.  If he did that nobody would have to take sides to like the special editions or hate them because We would have what we want and be happy.  Instead he trys making everyone watch the 2004 bastardization.  I want my childhood the way i remember it not replaced with bad fake cgi.

To me as a movie buff and buyer of many dvds the Gout was a slap in the face, it was like you love these movies go fuck yourself.  Watch 1993 laserdisc transfers in 2006.  I mean really do you think this is a normal business practice and not just a dude with a major ego?  Ridley Scott. Steven Spielberg, and Francis Ford Coppola have no problem releasing restored Anamorphic theatrical versions of their movies.

What Lucas has done grows even more absurd when you realize his stance on the colorization of old black and white movies and film preservation.  That a so called film presevationist Cut up the original camera negative to create the 1997 version is criminal at least to me.  Not only that he had gathered up all remaining film prints allegedly and had them destroyed so the 1977, 1980, and 1983 oot can never be released again.

Yeah because i am not an 8 year old kid in 2008 and i am 30 years old i have a particular bias towards the oot, but at least the majority of film critics and book writers on the subject back me up on this.

I recent years i have begun to reexamine is lucas was ever the genius filmaker that cultural myth makes him out to be, that maybe he was i guy with a few good ideas that was just in the right place at the right time and got lucky.  He had great collaborators.  He never was a good writer some of the dialogue in that 1974 script is as bad as the prequels.  But at least back then he hired competant screenwriters to write the scripts.  Starting with Return of the Jedi he all but wrote the scripts himself and and chose the direction the film would go in himself.

Supposedly on jedi all Kasden did was a final draft rewrite.  It was not the collaboration of empire strikes back or star wars.

Same thing with Attack of the Clones Jonathan Hales did a basic rewrite and it is a Lucas script.  Same thing with Indiana Jones IV Lucas wrote the script and had Koepp do a single rewrite.

This guy should never be allowed to write another movie all on his own.  He should write the treatment and come up with a general outline or first couple script drafts and hand it off to a real writer.

They never allowed Frank Darabount To go to stage 2 on his script which would be another draft or 2.  He could have delivered something brilliant, too bad all we got were cgi gophers and monkeeys and a temple that transforms into an alien ship.

If star wars and Indiana Jones are to continue they need young blood to take over.  The best thing that ever happended to star trek was when they handed off to the young Nick Meyer to shake things up a bit.  They are probably doing just as good a thing with having jj abrams reboot.  Even bond and batman have been reborn while star wars stays stale and predictable.

Lucas has connections to a lot of great artists and writers he will not allow to take over because he does not want his vision muddied.  Probably bad for the franchise that he keeps sole rights to the series.  The better star trek movies for example would not have happened if roddenberry was able to keep the rights to trek and have an iron clad rule over the series.

Lucas had a vision all right it is tunnelvision of the mediocre, the predictable and overly cgi kind.

Here is a Billionaire who continues to make the safe movies that will make money no matter what.  and continues to talk up those small experimental pictures.  He sure has the cash to make a few wacky and wild movies that could be original, god knows he can afford it.  He should make another movie Like THX 1138 that is original and not made to make a zilliion dollars.

In the last couple of years There was a dvd released that had his student films that was released to little or no fanfare since he did not pay to advertise it.  Yet those LIttle films are better than his clone wars crap could ever be.

Then again there are 2 unsung heroes between THX 1138 and American Graffiti.  They are Walter Murch, and Haskel Wexler and lucas takes all the credit. Not to mention Lucas would have never ever gotten the opportunity to direct or get to make those films if not for Francis Ford Coppola.

There is a laserdisc version with the book on the making of the film.  I wonder if anyone has done a transfer?

supposedly all versions are in very poor shape.  The video masters out there and film prints are not in good shape?

What about a restoration of the movie from the original camera negative.  I wonder what robert harris would say on the state of the film.

The Japanese version on yesasia claims to be ntsc but there is no way of telling if it is from a pal master.

American Animation is most certainly made for children because in the u.s.a. the idea is animation is childish. 

This animation is not made in the u.s.a. like the genddy series but in singapore via outsourcing so it takes away american jobs. 

I am an anime fan and prefer japan animation anyways so i thought i'd like this series because Lucas said it was a star wars anime.  Instead it looks like thunderbirds in cgi instead of with puppets.

Japan animation  can be just as annoyingly childish as american animation but they also have adult stuff like Akira and Ghost in the Shell which america wishes it had made.

Maybe Titan A.E. and Iron Giant as well as the Pixar films are up their in quality with some of the japan creators if not the Miyazakis.  Its not that i hate the disney type of animation i just hate musicals and everything they make has a dumb song in it.  The one exception is probably fantasia since it uses existing classical music.

I'll admit i hated the genddy style too at least at first.  But those cartoons came closer to the feel of the oot than the prequels, lucas had no hand in them.  I would much prefer a third season of the genddy series or a traditional animated oot era or new republic era cartoon with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.

Yes the fan made trailer is better than this whole series because it has mara jade and Luke Skywalker, princess leia and han solo in it.  I hate anakin skywalker in the prequels with a passion.  Funny that i liked ewans portrayal of obi wan but hated hayden christensen.  Also funny that i am one of the ones who felt jake lloyd did an okay job in episode 1.

Hayden sucks as an actor i saw him in jumper that dude is another canadian who could not act his way out of a wet paper bag in the middle of a blizzard.

The other show Filoni Worked on had better writing and better voice acting even if it was a kids show.  It was called Avatar the last airbender and makes clone wars look like a joke.  Even for a Dragon Ball and Naruto knockoff that says something.

Every next project Lucasfilm puts out is lower in quality than the last ones they did.  I have no problem believing Indiana Jones V will be the single biggest joke in cinema history.  It will make the pig in a poke part 4 look like the greatest film ever made.  The live action tv series will make the Phantom Menace look like Citezen Kane or Casablanca, lol.

It is time for Indiana Jones to hang up his hat, and the jedi to stow away their Lightsabers for good.  Lucas should not be allowed near another video game, movie, book or anything with star wars or indy in it.  He should he banned for Life.  He ruins everything he touches including the negatives of the oot.

Their has never been any proof that he scripted the wookie battle on the fourth moon of Utapau, or that The wookies were trained by Ben and Luke to attack the Death Star.

They may have been ideas but they were never written down.

We will never really know the truth of the matter but i am sure yoda and ben came from joseph campbell, and the ewoks from the brothers grimm and Bruno Bettleheim.

I have always thought the Ewoks as the Viet Cong and the Empire as the United States was always complete bs.  I mean the battle is turned only when they steal that at-st and use the empire's technology against them. There sticks and rocks do little to nothing.  Yeah, George has said it is about the Human Spirit and all and i get that but he may have fudged things a bit there.

Plus cgi has no place in the oot except for those all experimental vector graphics.

The vehicles in the prequels do not look real or believable and don't have the carbon scoring and lived in look.  They all except for the naboo starfighters in episode 1 look like a computer graphic and extra fake.  Even the naboo fighters looks much never and sleeker than the oot.

No i do not like John Knolls added cgi fighters to star wars trench run.  Those cgi effects look far more dated today than even the old motion control work does.  It looks like a work in progress and something that should not be in the film at all.  That is what i hate about the special editions. a testing ground for the shitty prequels while ruining my favorite movies.

I used to be able to escape the bad prequels and special editions in the EU but Lucas got his claws on that as well and ruined it to fit his prequel vision.

I am happy now that he never got the rights to flash gordon because he would have ruined it in the same way he ruined indiana jones and star wars.  As he would likely ruin willow if he made a sequel to the first one.

I would have liked to see his original prequel concept he developed with Gary Kurtz and not that bullshit he started on Nov 1, 1994 known Then as THE BEGINNING.

The prequels could have been  really good if he gave someone else that old general outline and the oot films to watch to match it to.  You know like He could have hired real screenwriters and diirectors to make them into the super fucking Epic films we all expected after waiting twenty years.

Anakin in the cartoon is pretty consitant with how annoying he was in the prequels.  and now he has a bratty whiny padawan to give his emo jerk character a run for his money.

Plus Padme in the movie was just as boring as Natalie Portmans delivery of dialogue.  And in this show and the movie the dialogue is on par if not more cringe inducing that the prequels.  Hey at least Matt Lanter is as wooden and boring as hayden is a bit less grating on the nerves and annoying.  Lets all give him an oscar,lol.

Plus this cartoon makes an average meh game and storyline like the force unleashed the epic of our times,lol.

Guess i will just pretend this does not exist and sit back and watch the oot.  Kind of like what i mostly do with that phantom plot movie and its sequels.
