We should sue George Lucas.
Time

As of now Season 5 of enterprise exists only in the Books.

I choose the Canon of the novel the good that men do over These are the voyages because that episode was crap and moore should be ashamed.

Though the continuence of the voyages of the crew of the Nx-01 in novel form should make them feel right at home because the rebirth of tng, voyager, and deep space nine have all happened in the novels.  Except for Year Four of Tos which is a Comic book.

Enterprise was supposed to be the first trek series to last 8 seasons as the voyage of the Nx-01 was an eight year mission.  So four whole Seasons Are missing from the tv series unlike TOS which is only missing 2, Then their was that second five year mission thing of phase II which became star trek the motion picture.  If you include the never produced and aborted series   there are seven more seasons of tos missing.

TNG, DS9, and Voyager i believe all got Seven Seasons.

Also as far as i Know the TOS novels have 2 seperate continuities.  The Real Pocket Books Continuity which tries to be in Line with the films and tv series and is still not canon, well at least it was not canon until JJ got his hands on things.  And their is the Shatnerverse.  Where the whole Universe revolves around Captain Kirk and His Decisions and even in the Next Generation Era Picard plays second Banana.  People have alleged that Shatner is massaging His own ego in these books.  That may be true but some of them are damn fun.

I'm not jumping to conclusions But i imagine Hunter6 is going to say that the screenwriters of the jj pic are going to plagiarize stuff from the pocket books novels.  This might sit okay with cbs paramount who own pocket books, but what about the work for hire authors getting their work stolen?

Like if they Lazily cobble together other peoples work they should not have a job in writing at all.

Lucas and Spielberg both have allegedly commited grievous Plagiarism and got away with it.

It can never be proven in court but Star Wars is probably the biggest piece of plagiarism ever produced. And this not according to me these are not my theories.

Many unauthorized Biographer or Website has discussed argued these points.

Most of the source authors Lucas mined for Star Wars were Alive at the time the film was made and received no compensation.  People Like Frank Herbert and Isaac Asimov.  alas for the passed away authors who could not protect their works like Edgar Rice Burroughs.  Not Sure if E.E. Smith was alive at the time but his works were plundered wholesale as well.  A case could be Made of Liberally Borrowing from the works of Professor J.R.R. Tolkien Like Lord of the Rings and The hobbit specifically.

He borrowed from Kurosawa but that score was settled when he helped raise the money to get Kagemusha made.  Just like he supposedly gave money to the JCF or Joseph Campbell Foundation. Joe Campbell's book the hero with a thousand faces is also Very much used in Star Wars.

You know the most moving thing emotionally about Lucas and Spielberg's Films is John Williams Music.  I Don't think he gets nearly enough Credit what would Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Or Jurassic Park be without his music.

Not only does the music lend Humanity to the characters, but lends believability to them.  Under Williams you believed Superman could fly, and Elliot and ET could fly.  The Grandeur of Jurassic Park was almost completely in the score not the often mentioned cgi. Star Wars succeeds as well as it does because it is almost written as an opera without singing, space operas were never meant to be literal but Star Wars was indeed an epic space opera.

I find it in no way bizarre that almost all my favorite movies have had a Williams Score.

Even some of my most hated movies as well, but i at least like the soundtrack for them Like Episodes 1-3.

In fact probably the biggest dissapointment to me in years was the Indiana Jones IV score as it seems like it was totally phoned in so i don't own that cd.

One of the greatest thrills of my Cinema going life was to hear a reprise of the superman theme in the Score for Superman Returns.  The movie stunk but that was quite exciting.  Though not nearly as good as Williams and the LSO version it still was cool. I will also admit to getting chills from hearing the old Indiana Jones music quoted in IV but their were no Substancially new themes.  Maybe Williams Composed more music than what ended up on the CD or in the movie.  I would not mind hearing the complete score with alternate takes and cues and the same for the first 3 films as well.

My favorite thing about episode 3 of star wars was the quoting of the force theme/lukes theme and the throne room from Star Wars 1977.  I would like to find one person who was not generally moved in the theater.  Everyone in the packed cinema house i saw it with were.

Spielberg and Lucas Worst Kept Secret everytime They went from the frying pan into the fire it was williams that saved their bacon.

inspiration for creating Indiana Jones?
Time

The sources for Indiana Jones are almost as numerous as those of star wars.

I know the Stewart Granger version of King Solomon's Mines is one, and another is gunga din from rko pictures.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre, CasaBlanca, The Maltese Falcon, North By Northwest.  Zorros Fighting legion, Zorro's black whip.  Tarzan.  The greatest show on Earth (lion tamer) .  Don Winslow of the Navy and Don Winslow of the Coast guard.  Tailspin Tommy.  The spy smasher.  Terry and the Pirates comic by Milton Caniff.

Haggard's novels or the film adaptations of them Like She, and the already mentioned King Solomon's mines.

The movie Stagecoach which was also an infleunce on star wars similarly as Tarzan and the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs were.

The Pulp and dime novels of adventure fiction from the 30's and 40's.  Nothing in particular has ever been told to fans as far as source hunting goes.

Of course Lucas interest in the social sciences, archeology and history and world mythology also had an impact on the series.

Again it has Never been proven a source but a real man named Vendel Jones i believe searched for the Ark of the Covenant.

Oh of course the often forgotten source of James Bond, It was almost meant to be that Sean Connery who was bond would be indiana jones father in the movie because that was the original impetus for spielberg to make the movie having begged cubby broccoli to make a bond movie.  He had about as much success with Ion productions as Lucas had in trying to buy the rights to flash gordon from king features.

What sources are mentioned in the making of indiana jones by Rinzler?

I know a bunch of film serials were mentioned in Great Movie Stunts, and Making of Raiders of the Lost ark.

Ok so apparently Doc Savage was also a source and so Was The Lone ranger.

So what doe you now have to sit down and watch the entire catalogue of The republic, and Universal Serials.  Which are all forgettable and bad.  One which people consider to be bad was the high water mark and was the most expensive produced flash gordon.

I would also like to check out secret of the incas, But it exists as a so called public domain source on ebay according to a seller.  I don't know if this is verified It may just be a bootleg.

I read one review Claiming to have seen the best copy so far on dvd that was a bootleg apparently telecined from a film print.  If the movie is truly public domain then anyone who owns a copy can go down to a lab with a rank telecine and get it transfered.

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)
Time

So i went back and compared the 16mm sample with the finished puggo super 8mm and the 16mm is much nicer.  Though for some reasons the light levels are off don't know if this is the XP workprinter causing that and just severe fading.

Also the cropped sample does not to appear to be anamorphic or even play back at the right ntsc speed it almost sounds a bit sped up in some players.  Is this audio pitch shifting?

I wish someday that someone can Do the Cineavision widescreen digest on super8mm, or the Rare scope version of part 2 of star wars released by Ken Films.  I bet you both of those releases though are not true anamorphic widescreen probably flat prints that have letterboxing.

You know what would be really neat to see is the super8mm Marketing Films Raiders of the Lost ark digest.

I know the bridge looks awful, the christmas lights are none too appealing to me.

All the actors look like they belong on some teen show like smallville and not star trek, especially Pine.

The overly bright and rediculous design is actually reminding me of sci fi's flash gordon from 2007, with a little bit of the phantom menace and the apple ipod store for good measure, lol.

We have not even seen the cgi enterprise yet wait for the trailer and cringe since the Kelvin Looked like a ship designed for a ps2 game.

Zoe Zaldana looks hot as Uhura,  still i am not sold on this reboot.

Heroes fans will show up because Sylar is in it.

The one major concession they made to tos fans was having leonard nimoy come onboard to play spock.  Reportedly he is only in twenty minutes of the movie.  He makes a good spokesman for jj though.

To be fair to JJ i liked Lost and Alias.  But MI 3 sucked.  This guy just does not have the directing chops to pull off this movie.  He is in the same territory of a first time director as Whedon who made Serenity.  I'm probably alone in this but i think they are tv guys and not movie directors.

As first time trek Directors go we have the good Star trek II,  Meyer, III nimoy, the not so good V shatner.

Why JJ was n. meyer unavailable, why not Nimoy for such a spock centric movie.

Seems to me with the young cast, the fake and expensive cgi and the JJ connection they are going for the same youth market later teens they marketed Cloverfield to, i'm fealing a pg-13 rating.

I mean he did Lost so why not a X-files movie, he made alias why no bond movie, but he is directing Trek something he has no experience with whatsoever.

The screenwriters wrote the horrible script for transformers it's not like we are getting a brilliant script Like Nick Meyers for star trek II.

I fear this movie will be the last nail in the coffin, i mean the screenshots alone vitually make it an accidental parody of tos just like the star wars prequels were of the oot.

Remember Optimus Primes Dialogue in Transformers "my Bad"  classic lines like that are up their with Indy 4's "space between the spaces".

Hmm... The Old Republic game?
Time

so I went back and rewatched the video and some of the guys who worked on kotor and mass effect are involved.  There is also the possibility this could be a good game and an awesome mmo, but i fucking hate mmos.  That is why despite how awesome people claimed it was i never did play final fantasy online.

I prefer a game with a single player story Like a movie, or novel would be like.

Except you can choose to Be light side or male or female and how your character looks.

The creator's or creator make a script and story plot that is followed.

MMO's as far as i know are random Chat online in game, or talk with other people online and do random quests battleling and leveling up and there is no story only a change in setting.

You could pretend a story in your head, and you do get more customization of how your character looks and evolves in an mmo but story has never been the point of mmo.

MMO to me is crap it is like that old dungeons and dragons card game only online.  Nerds can hang out and converse i can already do that for free.

Funny how people Love the online version of halo 3 for example but their is no story and only random battles like an mmo.  I only like the single player game because there is actually a story and not just some randomness, it may be fun but is it worth the money?

Next thing you know bioware will announce plans that Mass effect will be scrapped in favor of a mmo, and some angry fan will go crazy.  That is about the same thing they are doing here.

Plus this is star wars and will be kept kiddy.  At least mass effect had sex in it, Lucas will never allow that in star wars. No Ultra killing or violence.

I mean seriously all people want is a lightsaber so they can go apeshit and cut off other enemies limbs, cut them in half etc. Since it is Lucas i bet major censorship is involved.  Since he took out violence in the special editions, toned done the violence in Return Of the Jedi in 1983.   Remember Luke so called "stun setting" lightsaber on the skiff barge in return of the jedi.  He strikes them with his lasersword and all they do is fall into the sarlacs maw.  No severed limbs or cutting in half.

I am not a fan of ultra violence or killing type movies, violence just for the sake of violence is dumb.

But still Lucas had no problem with Maul being cut in half in menace, or Anakin losing his arm in clones, or losing both his other arm and legs in sith.  See he is never consistant.  Removed the laser burns from the troopers in star wars and had greedo shoot first.  But in the same movie you still have the smoking skeletons and Ponda Baba getting his arm severed by Kenobi in the Cantina and there was blood.  Then In Empire Strikes Back Luke gets his hand cut off at the wrist and there is no bood and the wound is cauterized.

Now he does not even allow kissing in the clone wars cartoon. Guess he better go back and take out those scenes in empire strikes back, Return of the Jedi, Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith. Since romantic kissing between a man and woman is now considered off limits.

Video Confirmation that they are abandoning making a single player Kotor III for this crap mmo.

It is set 300 years later and you never find out what happened to Revan.  So basically they are ass raping the fans of kotor1 who fell in love with Revans story and played part 2 to uncover the little tidbits about him being in the unkown regions.  I mean this would be like if star wars and empire strikes back came out and the third act return of the jedi was never made.  Lame.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/starwarstheoldrepublic/video/6199708

The guy who came from EA to take over Lucasarts is a jackass suit, who will strongarm the game creators and represent Lucas interests solely. Seriously scary.

And i hear no mention of  drew karpshyn since he is currently working on mass effect 2.  Sorry Lucasarts is not getting a dime from me much less an online fee.  I never fell for the lucas pig in a poke Galaxies online so why now?

I'll save my money for Mass Effect 2.  The only way of there being a real Kotor III is if this thing bombs hardcore.

Of course the same people who loved the prequels, the special editions, force unleashed and clone wars will probably be eating out of Lucasarts hands and begging to give Lucas their money for more of his table scraps.

I don't mean you ot.com guys who want the oot saved and restored not destroyed, i mean tfn types.

Funnily enough they gave the last Legacy of the Force novel an imperfect  score, but Indiana Jones 4 and Force Unleashed are the best thing since sliced bread, lol.

I come off sounding Like a real jerk and original trilogy fan extremist but when will Lucas draw the line, how much abuse of the fanbase is allowable until enough is enough.

I mean it is disheartening that  the man who created star wars sees its legacy as nothing but dollar signs.  I care for star wars more than Mr Lucas does, perhaps a bit too much.

IS summer Glau a good actress or just a pretty face.

Seems to me this show is sold just on looks alone, but as a sidetrack has a somewhat decent plot.

Unlike Knightrider which is only about the car and the boobs.

I'll be honest and say that when that i heard that dude i hated from that show i hated 90210 was going to be on this show.

Thankfully he does not reprise the role of the douchebad from that show.

Hey it could have been worse they could have got Dillan instead, lol.

You know that guy from the awful Buffy movie, the invasion tv film and bit part in the fifth elements prologue.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

SuperCastleVania was pretty sweet as were the nes versions.  But castlevania 64 sucked. While the first 3d mario 64 was good.  And later when they made 3D versions of metroid for the gamecube and the wii they did not suck though i like the sidescrollers better.  Donkey Kong Country was awesome on the snes, but the 64 one also sucked.

If not for games Like Shadows of the empire, Mario 64, or Goldeneye 64, Perfect Dark, Conkers etc. the system would suck.  It still cannot touch the supernes.

Super nes had the super star wars trilogy, Final Fantasy II (really IV) Final Fantasy III (really VI), chrono trigger, secret of mana, zelda a link to the past, Super Mario world, Super Metroid, Starfox, Actraiser. Breath of Fire 1 and 2, and Lufia 1 and 2.

If you love rpgs the super nes was a killer system for rpgs like the ps1 and ps2 would become.  and of course the xbox.  It is a little too early to say if the 360 or the PS3 is better but i am leaning towards the 360 because it has mass effect, will have mass effect 2 and will have Final Fantasy XIII and Fable 2.

Blue Dragon and that other mistwalker game suck.

I am not sorry to say the PS1 won me over the 64 for the masterpiece that is final fantasy VII.  What does the 64 have Quest 64,lol. The ps1 also had the first installment in the metal gear solid franchise.   Followed up of course with ps2 metal gear solid 2 and 3.  4 has gotten nothing but a negative backlash for the load times and being on the blu ray ps3 and not on the standard dvd 360.  Also people are pissed that it is not the last game as promised since Kojima is making a part V just without solid snake.

If you don't have an HDTV and a Blu Ray sony PS3  which are both overpriced you miss out on the much overhyped part 4.

You can watch the cutscenes on youtube until they are pulled for useage violation, lol.

We should sue George Lucas.
Time

Wow see C3PX got what i meant.

Of course i meant that ford spielberg and the film crew had to be there with the A camera.  And of course it was a complaint based on the abundance and overuse of cgi in the film that Spielberg was going to do old school and chickened out at the last minute.

The film has that overly bright washed out look to it and is not consistant at all with Douglas Slocombes cinematography on the old film trilogy.  It has that prequels look to it.  The same butchered recolor job Lucas did to the 2004 trilogy to make it match, crushed whites and Blacks and video game colors.

When is someone going to shoot a film the old school way, and even if it fails i would pay to see it because i like models, motion control and puppets rather than cgi.

Of course it was unrealistic to think no cgi would be used but it could have been used more sparingly and effectively and not drawn attention to itself.  That is the problem of the new ILM versus the old ILM.  Old ILM cared to keep things consistant and not pull you out of the movie, while the new crew of kids just want jazzed up cgi bubblegum crap that shows the work they have done but does nothing for the plot.  This actually goes against a rule Lucas himself made in 1983 documentary from star wars to jedi.  If you don't believe me then go watch it.

I dread that word Elements that was in the quote i used.  Like When Rob Coleman talked about needing to get all the elements for Jar Jar.

The prequels were not consistant with the original trilogy.  I might have cost three times as much to shoot all three on film and use models, motion control, puppets, blue screen, Glass Mattes and composite things optically instead of digitally.  But at least Indiana Jones 4 and the new prequels would have remained consistant.  That being said the worst part of the new movies was not the overuse of cgi it was a lack of likeable characters a story you cared about or a good script that fucked these movies up.

So you want me to go and say it then fine, George Lucas raped my childhood with cgi.  And i am prepared for my star trek memories to be ruined also next year by ILM with the new cgi crap.

Compare and contrast the First ILM Special Effects book with the later into the digital realm.  The first one has beautifully crafted shots of models and matte paintings and effects.  The second book is filled with cartoon like fake cgi, and should be thrown in the trash.  Hey guess which book my library has on file for historical record of motion picture production the first book.  They never bothered buying that cgi mess.

I don't want digital millenium Falcons, X-wings or the starship enterprise i want the old models or nothing.

Cgi might be up to snuff barely for cartoons or videogames but is not nearly lifelike or realistic enough for live action movies yet.

These may be fictional stories and not real.  But a hand built model can be seen by the eyes to be real, and if at home you build model kits you can feel and touch the models and they are real tactile objects.  Not so with 1's and 0's.

People wonder why Lucas does not get a pass like peter jackson who directed lord of the rings which also was abundant with cgi.  Because he had real sets, and actually shot on location and they actually built highly detailed models that can be seen on the dvds special features.  This stuff could have all been created in the computer but only at the sacrifice of the story feeling real and authentic.

So they built lots of Models and sets for Episode 1. and went to tunisia, and italy.   But the way the image is too bright and overly saturated people who watch it think it was all shot on a computer.  It was the only prequel shot on 35mm film.  The person responsible for the final color grading should be fired.  The colors look nothing like 1977 star wars.

I am really surprised some fanedit has not been done to make the colors like the old trilogy.  To edit out the majority of unecessary plot or cgi.  Maybe it would be a ok movie.  Episode II is just a mess.  and three is ok but unforgivable that Lucas could not pull off anakins turn into vader and make it believable.  But he is not an actors director.  Someone like Christopher Nolan could have pulled it off but not Lucas.

And for a film series like 1-3 that could have been serious in tone and Shakeperean in its story, or like a greek tragedy or epic Lucas decided for it to be childish and mostly forgettable, be marketed to the lowest common denominator for profit and happy meals and action figures.  There was a good story there somewhere with the right writers and directors, we could have had a trilogy not only match up to the oot but possibly surpass it.

There are films i constantly rewatch and those i don't.

Movies that go into the never watch pile:

Indiana Jones IV

Clone Wars 2008

Temple of Doom

Star Wars episodes 1-3

Batman forever, batman and robin

The redo of  THX 1138

Redone American graffiti that  had new cgi opening added

Star wars 1997 and 2004 special editions.

Star trek Nemesis

movies i always get around to watching again:

Raiders of the Lost ark

Jaws

Et

Clone encounters of the third kind

The last Crusade

Back to the Future

star wars

The Empire stikes back

return of the jedi

Lord of the rings trilogy

Superman donner 78

batman begins

Original Graffiti Home video release

Original THX 1138

star trek movies 1-6

Almost all modern cinema is pure garbage.  There will be only three watchable films this year for me Dark Knight, Iron Man and Quantum of Solace.  I wish i could get my money back for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of, the temple of the crystal turd

Narnia 2 sucked as well.

Star Trek next year had better not suck as sci fi is dying for a rebirth after the lackluster prequels.

And as much as trek Fans hate on enterprise is was actually better than Lucas prequels, but the retconning was just as bad if not worse in enterprise than in episode 1.

even the one big draw for even sucky star wars films the lighsaber duels were fucked up for episode 2 especially, and bad to passable in episode 3.  While the duel in menace was probably the only thing i liked about the movie.  As Ray Park is a real martial artist.  Though the duel had to be filmed in slow motion for Ewan to keep up with him.   In Three even though Hayden lifted weights and gained muscle for the part he still came off as a wimp, and Ewan was still ok.  Though you really could not focus on the duel because the cgi backgrounds were so distracting (ooh look at that fake cgi lava) and the speed of motion was too fast and they had the same color lightsaber.

I know Return of the Jedi was entirely shot in the US, except for the soundstages in London,  And Star Wars and Raiders Reshoots were in Death Valley.  That a lot of Last Crusade was shot in the usa.  The motocycle chase was filmed on Lucas valley road in california and not in germany, lol.

I guess this is typical hollywood stuff though.  The sixties batman cave was shot in an old salt mine from what i have heard.  And of Course those fake paper mache props and planets were built right under the hot lights on Paramounts sound stage for star trek.

Too bad we owe the era of bad cgi fakery to a mostly entertaining film Jurassic Park.  It truly created a monster, made Lucas go gaga for cgi "ooh, ah.  Yes that looks faker than it did before i'm sold, how much time and money does it save me."

It is not just Toriyama, but the Japanese in general that have a strange sense of humor that is quite out there and sickening to western readers, or viewers.

I read the manga and i understand the joke set up.  it is a pretty jevenile joke.  Goku realizes that Bulma does not have the same as him down there, lol when he sees her naked or something i'm trying to remember since it has been years since i read the manga.  He was also surprised she did not have a monkey tale like he did as he thought that was normal and everybody had one.

Then again i am not sure if these were the real jokes since i cannot read japanese and this is only based on half remembered stuff from the viz translation.

Dr. M's Reinventing The Wheel Edition (PAL to NTSC+) (Released)
Time

This projects source was moth3r's pal laserdisc project.  Not the 1997 special edition.

Like he said he used the vhs audio from 1995 in the uk for the english audio, and the video came from a french laserdisc which has a french dub he did not use.  There were subtitles in the lower black area but he removed them i suppose.

The speed up and pitch is actually worse on the pre thx pan and scan uk release because the master was an ntsc same as the us laserdiscs. no to mention the discs were major rotters.  They never got a definitive edition in the uk on laserdisc, the closest thing they got was the pal executor vhs boxset.

In 1995 Lucasfilm i believe had a seperate pal Master created to fix said issues, yet that was not used in 2006 for the euro pal dvd releases, lol.

And Also as Moth3r stated Dr.M used the lossless PCM from the us definitive collection laserdisc.  The mix was created in 1993 specifically for The THX laserdisc program and was not any of the theatrical mixes of the trilogy.  The only theatrical original release of the old trilogy that had a digital mix was Return of the Jedi in 1983 and few theaters had the equipment.  Star Wars mix was redone in 1985 in digital and therefore was a new mix not just digitizing of the analog mix.  Empire Strikes back as far as i know is the same 35mm mix up until the 1993 redo but was digitized to be played back digitally in later laserdisc releases.

The Gout had the 1993 mix crappily mixedown to dolby 2.0 for space considerations.  Had this been an anamorphic release as of now on blu ray there would be plenty of space for the Full PCM track.  Though i would imagine Lucas would have burtt cook up a new mix DolbyTrueHD instead.  Which is probably what will happen when the Crap 2004 edit is released on Blu Ray.  Unless Lucas is as lazy as he was with the gout and just re-uses the same dolby digital 5.1 EX tracks from the dvd.  On which a new hope's mix was messed up, the music was dialed down during the trench battle to it almost being inaudible and the surround channels were improperly swapped.  So much for a deliberate creative decision.

The 1997 mix had none of these issues, and is well done for a late nineties  job.  But Still Tom Christopher and Burtt even though the new mix was sonically improved .  All they did was get a better frequency to noise ratio response.  and Of course audio technology could now reproduce the mix the same way it would have been heard by the mixers.  Therefore things that had been hidden before or were not perfect had to be redone from original master tapes.

1997 mix is almost crazy  the work that was involved going all the way back to the 6 track master that the 4 track master was created from, and all the original sound effects library reels had to be tracked down.  We are talking about a brand new mix from scratch including going back to the studio master tapes for the lso music.  Unlike the 1993 which was a sweatening and blending of the first three theatrical mixes for star wars form the four track masters.  a generation removed from the orginal six track master.

There are so many different mixes for these films a book could be written about the changes and the differences, and creation of new mixes.  Star wars alone had what 3 original mixes, plus the 1985, the 1993, and the 1997 and 2004.  Wow that makes seven frickin mixes. ouch, lol.

Sending one guy to shoot still photographs to composite in cgi hardly counts as going on a location shoot so you can keep dreaming.  Also Hawai is a part of the us.

Talk about a major fuck you to the fans.

First they put off Kotor III for that mediocre crap Force Unleashed and now this.

Fuck Lucasarts, fuck them up their stupid asses.  To quote Jay and Silent Bob.

Bioware is also on my shit list for releasing a buggy version of mass effect for the 360 and a fixed version for the pc.  also the bonus level is free on the pc version and i have to pay to download it on the xbox version.

A mmo just reeks on the part of Lucas greed i mean he already charges money for the official site and now will charge a montly subscription fee for this game.

No restored Star Wars trilogy, no real Kotor III equals no sale.

You would have to be crazy to give this jerk any more of your hard earned money.  Special Editions sucked, then the prequels, then Indy 4, clone wars and force unleashed when will it end?

IT was not enough to destroy the Eu and assrape two beloved franchises, now the games have to be ruined too.

If they end up on newsgroups or rapidshit, i can only do pif, blanks and postage, or torrent.

I already pay highway robbery for fios why should i have to pay for both a rapidshare account and newsgroup access to ab star wars.

Kind of like how i skipped from final fantasy ten over to twelve because eleven was a stupid mmo.

Lucas lives in his own version of reality I like to call "Bizarro World".  Where the 2004 set is perfect and the gout was good enough to placate those Older fans who did not get his "vision".

Also Jar Jar was such a great character he needed to be added to Return of the Jedi, lol what sane person wanted that!

Lucas seduced Spielberg with the Dark Side of Cgi and convinced him it would make Indiana Jones 4 better when Spielberg's instinct was to shoot it worldwide on location and use traditionally bulit sets props and models and Glass Mattes.  He should have followed his first instinct.  The entire movie looks like it was shot in a fucking rolls royce factory on green screen and Only us locations.

No going to Peru, tunisia, or any other location needed we can fake it all in the computer nobody will notice.  I certainly did.

To this day i cannot fathom why Lucas, Spielberg, or Koepp still have a job in the film business i mean that movie was that bad.

It also sent Lucas the wrong message, the same wrong message of the prequels.  It made more money than the first three Indy films combined before adjusting for inflation.  How the fuck that movie made over 700 million dollars worldwide i will never know.

I understand the south park episodes message that Lucas assraped 2 franchises.  Still these movies are critic proof and seemingly box office proof.  any Indiana Jones or Star Wars film except clone wars practically gives Lucas a license to print money.  Why else would he want INDY V.  That being said i will never pay to see Indiana Jones V in the theater as my faith in Lucas ever making a good movie again is gone after 5 horrid movies in a row.

What are you talking about negative one?

I have the 3 disc et 60 dollar boxset and it is a nice set.  Also came with a filmcel and a making of book and cd, of and unlike the gout et theatrical is anamorphic. So in 2002 Spielberg could get right what Lucas could not in 2004, or 2006.

If you add that to the Ridley Scott Blade Runner set, and the Speilberg 3 disc Close encounters which both have restored from pristine film elements anamorphic theatrical versions, oh and another set the restored godfather.  Where is Lucas resting on his laurels and pissing off his fans.

Also in the last few years the Rambo Trilogy, the bond films, The Dirty Harry films the Rocky films have all been restored for their theatrical releases.  Hell even Dune got restored and so did The Last Starfighter for an HD-DVD release. Also the planet of the apes movies were restored.

But the biggest box office smash trilogy of all time nowhere in site, unless you count the gout as an acceptable release in the 21st century.  I do not.  I find it a joke and laughable.  It ought to be criminal to release three landmark epic sci fi/space fantasy films as bonus discs dumped from a laserdisc master.

That might have been acceptable in 1997 but not in 2006 pal i hate to tell you the facts.

The Indiana Jones trilogy dvd set was spared being wrecked.  But not so for THX 1138 and Star Wars oot both were added crap cgi that ruined the plot of the films, hell even American Graffiti landmark opening shot has been replaced with a cgi one because Lucas liked it better, fucker.

If Spielberg ever goes back and adds a cgi Shark to Jaws at Lucas suggestion i hope they make another South Park Episode where Speilberg and Lucas get ripped.  Free Hat and That latest China episode were classic.  Though i would say that last one crossed the line, and i don't like Spielberg Being stereotyped as the typical Money hungry evil jew caricature that they had in  those 2 episodes.  I mean those writers must be anti semitic or something.

The howard the duck pinball machine was awesome though, remind Lucas of his great claasics like howard the duck.

Though i do wonder why they have singled out Lucas and Spielberg.  Michael Bay also Deserved to be ripped for Transformers, Brett Ratner for X-men 3 and Next year jj star trek, possibly.  I mean if you added up all the dudes who supposedly raped peoples childhoods and destroyed franchises it would be more than 2 guys.

the 2004 set was a con nowhere on the box was it stated it was the special editions, and the copyright dates on the back all read 1977, 1980 and 1983.  Plus it was labeled as the original star wars trilogy and was advertised as such.  No mentions of the 1997 special editions or 2004 cuts anywhere.

I know a bunch of people who brought their sets back to best buy for a full refund as it was false advertising.  They got their money back and said they would never give Lucas another dime of their money.

Hell the movies are being aired without mention of them not being the original versions or special editions on spike tv.  They may trick some young kid who was not born back in the seventies, but clearly their con job never got past me.

The kid who said the gout was the original unaltered movies is a moron.  If they were unaltered they would be anamorphic with beatifully pristine technicolor and the original sound mixes.

They were not.  The 1993 set was digitally scrubbed by dvnr and formatted for 4:3 television sets with a resolution no greater than 480i, though the laserdisc picture was 380 lines interlaced.  The sound mix was completely new and was none of the three mixes on star wars from 1977.

Star Wars was modified when it was retitled Episode IV: A New Hope, and a new digital sound mix was created in 1985.

The 35mm mix was only ever available as far as i know on the fox rental tape from 1982 and the 1985 CAV laserdisc release.  So it was availble for what three years until it was buried.  And the rental tape and the laserdisc can have rot issues.  My tape has tape rot, and my laserdisc laserdisc rot.  Even the backup dvd i have of the 1985 CAV authored by darkjedi on dvdr has rot set in.

The mono MIX and the 70mm six track stereo mix with monaural surrounds have never been made commercially available.  Although the mono mix was lovingly restored by Belbecus he did not have access to the masters but a pal itv recording and a nstc bootleg of the theatrical cut of the movie from 77.

Someone tried recording the 70mm in the theater but the results are less than spectacular as you can imagine.

The original mix on both the 35mm and 70mm prints was derived from a 4 track master.  with home audio equipment you can listen to the 35mm mix and decode the surround information.  It is a very nice mix and only limited by the reproduction of the 1985 laserdisc audio fedility.  Which is crap in comparison to how it would sound on a brand new pristine print in a properly set up theater .

The 35mm does not have the heavy bass and boom that the 70mm had or the similar bass heavy 1997 theatrical editions which were released in dts 6 track.

Indiana Jones fans and star wars fans had their childhoods raped by Lucas and Spielberg, lol.  Just wait til next year when Gene Roddenberry rolls in his grave and the trekkies childhoods are raped by jj abrams.

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

The animation quality of this show sucks.  It is pretty much on par with the Cartoon Networks other lower budget animation crap shows.  It looks wooden and their is no realism or fluidity to the animation.  The characters look like they are carved out of wood.  Wow you would think a billionaire like Lucas could afford to do an expensively animated and cool star wars show with good writing and such instead you get this waste of time.

The guy never gets that you need to hire competant writers and animators, and a couple years back he claimed they would give Pixar a run for their money and compared it to the best of adult japanese animation.  It is none of these things.  Pixar is still king and Lucas is still a lame joke after the prequels and indy 4.

John Lassiter is a genius, Hayao Miyazaki is a genius, George Lucas is a hack.

Bring back Genddy and jettison this crap series or lose lots of fans Lucas will.

Dave Filoni is too much of a Lucas worshipping fanboy, and Will not grow the balls to steer this ship in his own creative direction and tell Lucas his ideas are shit and to fuck off. Very Much in the same way Spielberg Tolerated Lucas constant interference in making indy 4 a good movie and backseat directing that goes all the way back to Return of the Jedi when he rode Marquand on the whole production to get things his way to get even with Kersh.

What retard thought it would be a good idea to have a whole series based around the "roger, roger" robots from episode 1?  WTF.  Might as well make a whole series about JAR JAR and his journey to different planets and he steps in poop on each one and the animals all fart and he says pee-yousa.

That last episode was a complete wankfest and they could not even show padme and anakin kiss because it is too much a kids show.
