Revenge of the Sith: Awful message
Time

the "you don't know the truth obi wan killed your father" dialogue was the fake dialogue everyone had except for like 5 people who knew the real lines.

Even Dave Prowse on set recorded dialogue was that obi wan killed Lukes father.  And it was Prowse who supposedly Leaked that to the British Tabloids.  Lucas was so furious that when it came to filming the prequels Prowse was not welcomed back, and the rest is history we got Hayden Vader.

We should sue George Lucas.
Time

How about that that info is from 2007 and he is no longer in the movie and the scenes in the first draft script were not even shot, possibly not even written.  Star Trek.com has been dead for over a year and has yet to be revived.  The last Updates were like when the HD-DVD set came out for season 1 and we know Cbs/Paramount purposely put their money on the wrong horse because even then they knew Blu Ray would win.  They only wanted dumb fans money and offered them a release that was obsolete as soon as they bought it.

Because i have the same dumb hope that i did with each prequel installment that they would get better, George would take critcisms over what went wrong etc.

Of course never going to happen right?

I have to sit back and endure my favorite space fantasy be destroyed by the man who created it and who i once respected, and now loathe and have contempt over.

Nothing Like being a fan who has the power to do nothing when something you love goes down in flames, Maybe i should have stopped being a fan in 1983 or perhaps i am a glutton for punishment?

I don't know i don't pychoanalize it .

My  Hate position on  Star Wars and Lucas goes back to the point when Lucas announced the originals no longer existed, and he went about and did everything he could to bury them.

I don't have Star Wars oot in a good quality for dvd to show to my nephew and nieces, or children if i ever have any.  It is Lucas fault.  He does not deserve to be given a pass for destroying 3 classic films. And anyone who says he does is worthy to be regarded with the same Contempt That George Lucas is.

Question about the 2006 dvds I think you call the GOUT
Time

I don't work in the film industry, television industry or broadcast industry so I wish i could give you an answer to what you said here

Quoting Vaderisnothayden

"I think there's something I'm not understanding here. Is there some reason a blu-ray couldn't be made from the laser discs like the GOUT was? Would it be impossible to make a blu-ray (up to GOUT levels) without doing a proper restoration? (I'm not very knowledgeable about the technical stuff.)"

Does anyone know the Maximum resolution of a D2 composite master tape.  I know this format won't work for a dvd restoration or blu ray because it is low res for todays standards and was interlaced and non anamorphic.

Also the D2 is only as good as the film prints or negatives scanned in and the prints used on the gout were in poor shape.  I personally believe that no new film to video telecine was ever even done for the THX laserdisc versions i believe they took their old video master and just cleaned it up with dvnr and did some color correction.

I hope somebody can come on here and prove me wrong stating that a telecine was undertaken in 1992 0r 1993 with then state of the art technology.

Still i need a bit of convincing that all existing film prints and negatives have been destroyed or are in too bad shape to recover.

There are a couple of places pre 1997 that show Lucas did indeed have pristine elements.  The Interview with roger ebert in future of the movies, and the documentary for the special edition anatomy of a dewback part 2 where they took a trip to the Lucas cold storage film vault in the archives.

I was suprised to find this still on Lucas site:  Anatomy of a dewback part 2

http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000323.html

The thing is D2 composite masters or the same interlaced laserdisc home video masters were fine in dvd's advent when first introduced in 1997-98 .  Back then almost nobody had widescreen tv and the first HDTV sets were like 10 grand.  Plus the non anamorphic Star Trek releases were fine in the beginning when people had 4:3 television sets and dvd was only single layered and was not maxing out its resolution then.  If he had released the gout in 98 0r 2000 nobody would have complained .  But in the last 9 or ten years home video technology has evolved by leaps and bounds.  and releasing a non anamorphic dvd in 2006 was nothing short of a Joke.

If in film your movies are your assets then protecting the original copies of your films in pristine shape is good business sense.  So much for being a good businessman Lucas lets his biggest asset the oot negatives and prints rot.  Give the consumer what they want another thing he does not undertand, neither does he understand the filmgoing Public.

The things he is good for using the Star Wars and Indiana Jones name as a license to print money and destroy any credibility he or those films ever had.  If you had told me a  15 years ago that Lucas would do what Parmount did to Star Trek and Bleed it dry i would not have believed you.  Seeing as The Star Wars Trilogy was 3 pretty good movies and was not over done.  Their is such a thing as flooding the market with crap, derivative horseshit.  Until the movie series you once loved is no more and is a shadow of its former self, star wars and indy are zombies.  For the first time in my life i want star wars to go away and just die.  Lucas had to do all sorts of crazy things to start me hating on star wars.

It deserved a to go out on a high note in 1983 and be remembered as it was then a grand space epic and saga.  Now it goes out in a whimper with the Clone Wars movie the first star wars film to be a complete dud.

The thing is Lucas is still getting the wrong message . Just Because the Prequels and Indiana Jones IV made more than the originals does not make them better films.

I find it sad to say but it is probably bad for star wars to be under Lucas complete control.  If Fox owned Star Wars we would have a Properly restored anamorphic release of the originals on dvd.

Look at Star Trek it may be a bad thing overall that Roddenberry had to give the rights up to paramount.  But 2 of the better movies came about outside of his control and he fought those productions every step of the way.  These being of course Nicholas Meyers Trek 2 and 6

Lucas got all rights back to the star wars when he made a distribution deal with fox on the prequels.  They would make a shitload of money and the entire rights of the first trilogy 1977-1983 would revert to Lucas.

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I will concede that perhaps it is a generational thing and that the kiddies of today want to see a different star wars than the one i am familiar with and grew up with.

I guess being 30 does separate me from the little kids who grew up on the prequels and absolutely love this show.  I just wish a more adult animated show could be made for fans of the old movies.  Trying to get what we want from George is worse than trying to get blood out of a stone.

I mean we can't get a properly restored and anamorphic theatrical release of the old trilogy, we cannot get comics or novels anymore that have that old style flavor to them, and the animation and games are all about the prequels and clone wars.

Us old timers favorite characters in the Legacy novels from del rey were pale mocking imitations of themselves in a bad story arc that was a rehash of the prequels.

I have to admit most of my fury and lashing out in hatred for the prequels and special editions is because of Lucas constant mistreatment of the original originals and the so called bone he threw us was the gout what a fucking joke that was.  The worse part being i had to buy the special edition 2004 for a second time to get it and buy all 3 seperately when a box of the 3 oot discs would have been what i wanted.

That being said i find the comics for Kotor and Legacy to be really very good because their is a lot of story potential there.  Unlike the prequels which you already knew what was going to happen in advance.  You knew which characters would live and die.  Lucas should have hired writers and directors to make either episode 7 or do a series set way in the future or way in the past so they could have a way to create new stories.

The stories perogative should be to move forward i hate all the reboots and prequels.  I think They made a mistake making the star wars prequels instead of the sequels and JJ is making the same mistake with star trek when it should be set way into the future and have unlimited story potential.

It is truly sad that the originals today are not flashy enough for kids who have the attention span of a flea to enjoy.  Thankfully i can cue up my Laserdisc player and be transported back in time to when movies were actually good.

Okay so i saw the trailer for the sixth Episode and Looks like they have taken some of the complaints to heart and are trying to improve the animation.  I saw Lip movement and eye movement and character expression.  Now if they can hammer out a good script which is doubtful i would be enjoying this more.

People always forget that i metion i like the Genddy Series and The Republic Comics.

I actually like the Character of Ahsoka in the Series as apposed to her bratty portrayal in the movie.

Believe it or not i actually liked the movie better so far than the series which is the exact opposite of what everyone else thinks.  I like Jedi Fighting Sith and Lightsaber duels.  The politics suck and I could really do without them as much as possibly and i could not give a frack about these clones.  They are just canon fodder for the Clone Wars and were in the prequels as a backdrop to the main story.  Sorry George but you are not going to me me like Wooden Stormtoopers who all sound like that Morrison guy you had redub Boba Fett in Episode V.

What did the Prequels do to 2 of the best film villains of all time ruin them horribly. All Lucas Did with Hayden Anakin/Vader, and Little snot Boba kid was make me hate the characters i had found cool in the original trilogy.

quote "I dont know how things are with you but if I don't like a show say 'Grey's Anatomy' for example, I'll do my best to avoid it. and I certainly wont waste my time spewing vitriol on a Grey's Anatomy fan forum."

Johnny Your analogy would make sense if this was prequeltrilogy.com but it is originaltrilogy.com and is dedicated to the real trilogy from 1977-1983.  When this site gets renamed Prequeltrilogy.com, special editions.com, or starwarsfaneditsofthespecialeditions.com i will take your words at face value.

Besides in post after post i have Elaborated on how crude the animation is and made real critical comments that you just decided to ignore.

Besides being the most poor and crudely animated show i have probably ever seen with such hype, this show suffers from what i would call "prequel trilogy syndrome".

American Animation like disney is fully animated, but even Japanese Animation which is limited animation the eyes and mouths of the characters can show expression and when the characters move in the frame it does not look Wooden like some Kid filmed a wooden Puppet in their basement as a reference for the movement in each frame.

George's animation studio should be compared to others and He can never Touch Pixar which was the first Lucasfilm animation which he sold because he said he never would make animated movies this was in 1983 or 1984 and then in 1999 the phantom menace premiered and was mostly computer animated cgi.

You would think Lucas would take notes on what worked in the prequels and what did not work.  What fans and critics hated about the prequels and the clone wars movie and use that criticism to produce a better series.  His ego is so huge he just does not care one bit what people want to see.

I mean Look at how Much better the Genddy Series was But Lucas thought he knew better.  It is almost as if he was jelous that someone could make better star wars than he could.  Which brings me back to how he treated kersh after empire strikes back was hailed the best of the original trilogy and in george's own mind his own little bizarro world empire is the worst of all six films.

He got tongue lashed by critics on the prequels and reproduced the self same problems of those 3 films in kotcs.  I mean how many times is a guy allowed to fool people and people still fall for it.

It is just like triumph the insult dog named it "Lucas Table scraps".  This is actual fact it is His table scraps and just done for the money.  He no longer cares to put any creativity or care into his films and that stopped in 1989.

I find it incredibly Unbelievable that Episode 1 took the same five years to write that the 1977 star wars did but the quality is not even in the same ballpark, much less the same galaxy.

Kotcs went through a 19 year gestation period and was absolute shit.  Nobody i know in my family or my friends would disagree.  It was cheeseball level self parody and came off as Plan 9 from outer space part 2.

I actually Liked George Pal's version better because.  It had better actors, and real technical wizardry behind the effects not crap cgi.  Oh yeah the best reason no Tom Cruise, second best reason no script by david koepp.

Another pal film that is better than the remake is The Time Machine.

Kind of like how the original planet of the apes is a classic and that remake by burton is all kinds of horrible.

I am expecting nothing less also from the remake of The Day the earth Stood still.  The original is such a classic and is probably robert wise best sci fi film.  He also made the andromeda strain and star trek the motion picture.

Anyway getting back to Indiana Jones IV Kingdom of the Crystal Numbskull.  Can you believe Shia Lebouf actually defended the movie saying it is the same as the first 3 films and the same quality.

Also saying the originals were not real and this one is not real also so they are the same.

Yeah if he was right about Raiders and Last Crusade i would take my dvds and break them and throw them in the trash. But he is wrong because they don't have bad scripts and bad cgi.  Also he probably was not even born when Raiders first was in theaters, fucker thinks he can talk.  Man these kids who don't know a shit about the real indiana jones movies or the real star wars. They probably think the star wars trilogy premiered in 1997.  It is like the same retards who saw Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and picked up the Tolkien Books thinking they were based on the movie and said. dude that tolkien person changed too much stuff.

Considering that the french release was in april 2008 the US NTSC release should not be far behind right?  You never know considering Newman's passing recently.  Then again if it does not get a release i would not be surprised considering the imdb rating makes this film one of paul newmans duds.  Much more attention is put on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

To be honest i never read the book i was only saying Spielberg, and that would Include Peter Jackson are not the kind of guys authors want touching their material.

As a Tolkien fan i was horrified by the hamfisted changes Jackson inserted into a work that was not his own.

Not Only did NewLine butcher the master fantacists work but they did not even pay the tolkien estate their 2% of the net profits.  Which they are pursuing Legal action over and Christopher Tolkien is going to try and get all rights for the books back from Saul Zaentz due to breech of contract.  Meaning no Hobbit Movies.

Furthermore if tintin is a 100% cgi movie who do you think Spielbergs going to go for ideas, Lucas or bob z who did Beowulf.  Awful, awful, awful.  Any movie having its effects done by ILM lucas has a bad amount of relation to.  Even if weta does the effects for tintin what have they done since LOTR that fucking awful shit king kong, and lost the rights both to Evangelion and Halo.

Okay so the first narnia film was decent but the second one was shit.

How many traditional effects houses are left in Hollywood or as Independant's ? It seems to me that all new movies are crap cgi fests.

I wish the cgi overladen film era would implode.  i am sick of paying to see movies that Look like videogames and were written by a bunch of monkeys. Cgi and bad scripts ruined star wars and Indiana Jones.

I thought i already reviewed the Fifth Epsiode and said it sucked.  The animation is still wooden, The characters faces have zero emotion.  You know like in traditional animation where the chracters move fluidly and there eyes and mouths move and don't look like puppets carved out of wood.

The show is still about the "roger roger" robots which i said some retard had to have thought that would make a good series based on those annoying Robots from episode 1.  Might as well base a whole show on Jar Jar's adventures but i don't want to give Lucas any ideas.

A show with the Jedi, realisticly fluid animation Like live action and a good script could have made this show awesome instead we get cgi more cruddy and inept than episodes 1-3 combined.

I don't want thunderbirds in star wars what a horrible idea that was.

I mean this show is like watching someone else playing that battlefront II game only the cgi is worse and more wooden.

I want a Live action tv show that is like a subseries of the movies or a spin off cartoon, and what i got was a videogame cutscene made for third graders.

Last i checked on Rottentomatoes the Clone Wars movie had a pitiful 19% that is actually Lower than George W Bush approval rating, lol.

Wow that movie sucked.

The funny thing is indiana jones 4 is still hovering just under 70% i just don't get those critics man Indy 4 was worse than Clone Wars because it would be like Lucas making an episode 7 with Mark, Harrison and Carrie and the Movie just fucking goes and ruins the old trilogy.

At least with star wars i could care less since he is ruining the prequels which i don't like anyways.

The reboot of doctor who was a huge success, and is probably a better idea for him to work on that.  I can hardly blame Moffat.  I would keep as Far away from Steven Spielberg or George Lucas as possible they ruined 2 franchises.  Spielberg is not the go to guy for adapting books Look waht he did to jm Barries peter pan, he did far worse than disney could ever have done.  And while Jaws was a good film it did not stay close to the original novel at all.  Spielberg made up the ending as it is not in the book.

See i never cared for tintin so Spielberg can wreck that as he pleases.  I was a bit more angry at his and bays ruination of Transformers, Spielbergs own ruining of welles war of the worlds.

I was not one bit Pleased when Spielberg got the rights to Ghost in the Shell.  Seeing as he will rape another classic.

You want advice on the new trek movie JJ go talk to Manny Coto nit George "i love to rape childhoods" Lucas.

Well i saw those pictures from Empire magazine and i have to say it does look like trek 90210.

What i find really suprising is people still fall for Lucas pig in a poke every time.

He is still Raping peoples Childhoods, and crapping all over their memories.

I mean seriously First a totally meh game like force unleashed and now instead of a real kotor III we get a bad mmo.

If they never really intended to do part 3 and are just lying, i think Bioware should go back to working on making Mass effect 2 as awesome as possible and fuck lucasharts.

Somebody on Amazon called this movie "Crystal Numbskull"  It had me Rofl.

Other Reviews talk about If you are gonna get a nuke dropped on you get in the fridge, and ride it for three miles through the air, lol.

Aliens were in the movie, people were expecting Jar Jar to show up.  A mayan Temple transforms into a ufo and goes to where no man has gone before "the space between the spaces"lol.

The article on star wars official site was probably deleted.  You know because Lucas does not want any evidance of the oot existance, or the incredibly lame and stupid cgi added.  He wants people to think these versions from 2004 are the star wars trilogy.

Any body who does not have a copy of the making of star wars by Rinzler should get a copy before that book dissapears from Existance because it does not relect Lucas original vision.

Internet explorer should be illegal.  It is pure Microsoft anti trust garbage.  Riddled with Spyware.  It's security features are fucking swiss cheese since it has been around so many years longer than firefox the code is easier to crack and make viruses on.

I can still remember on my old computer ie would install Microsoft as my home page and their browser rewrite over my own chosen one without permission.  So i had to set up a free program call spybot search and destory to block it.

Bill Gates should be sued by the Government for the anti trust until he goes broke and pennyless.

But my god we all should be standardized since it makes all our lives easier. according to Biff Standard. lol.

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Ziz i like plenty of Star Wars after 1983.  A lot of it EU where authors tried to Remain true to the original trilogy.  The star wars i dislike are all George Lucas.  I like the Zahn Trilogy, the Bantam Books era, a lot of the NJO.  I felt del rey failed star wars with the legacy series they went in a different direction from what i would have.  I like Knights of the Old Republic, shadows of the empire.

As much as the prequels rubbed me the wrong way I did not hate them as a whole, they were just executed poorly as evidanced by how much better the novelizations and ancillary books are.

In fact the first time i have literally found myself completely hating star wars was in the 2004 cuts of empire strikes back and return of the jedi and the new clone wars movie and series.  Where did Lucas go wrong?

The spirit of the oot is tarnished by these new products Like the Special Editions, the Prequels, and the clone wars 2008.  I have already mentioned i Like the Genddy series.  I have also stated Revenge of the Sith was the best of the prequels but still failed miserably because Lucas could not Make Anakin's turn believable and botched it.

The Zahn Trilogy was true to the spririt of the original films and brought the story forward for the Characters we cared about from the first trilogy.  You know the Luke Skywalker adventures and Stories Lucas abandoned to make the Prequels.

They are doing really cool things with the Kotor and Legacy comics.  Also the James Luceno Novel Dark Lord was very well written.  I also liked The Drew Karshyn Novels based in the old republic and about Darth Bane.

Plenty of artists and writers still get the tone and feel of star wars.  Lucas is the only one who has changed and not for the better.

A director who was out of Practice for Sixteen Long Years.  Anyone leaves their craft for that long is going to get rusty and make shit.  You cannot be a recluse and out of touch with the average american filmgoer for over twenty years and still expect to Resonate with audiences.  Their is a general Disconnect since Lucas is now lord of his Empire and no Longer the Luke Skywalker Figure Battling to take down the empire of hollywood, he is a businessman first and forgot that Movies should be fun and the storytelling should come before the cgi.

The Lucas form that Documentary From Star Wars to Jedi would have been appaled with his modern self, for overuse of cgi and Special Effects before story.  He is not the same revolutionary Maverick filmaker who in the Seventies and Eighties knocked hollywood on its ass by making films outside hollywood and on his own terms. The Lucas and Speilberg's at the height of their powers Could kick the ass of these new hollywood upstarts.  Only now they are a part of the problem with the cgi and lack of a good script and generally Lazy and Uninspired directing.

The prequels and Indy 4 had some of the most cringe worthy and worst Dialogue i have ever heard in a movie, The scripts were just a joke.

I would not hurt Lucas to take some writing classes or hire some writers who don't make a parody and a mockery of one of the most loved sci fi epics of all time.

The Prequels were Star Wars in name only.   The magic was gone and the films felt utterly forgettable, did not resonate with Mythic themes.  Sure there is Jedi, Lightsabers, spaceships.  But without all these things they would just be some terribly expensive mediocre sci fi movies.  Something was not quite right, the films felt tonally different

No Heroes Journey to anchor the movies.

The only thing they got right with the prequels was Artoo Detoo and See Threepio.  They felt like the same characters from the other films.

Star Wars Saga: Silent Film Edition (Released)
Time

The one time i know of that star wars has been released in Black and White and Silent with Subtitles is the Ken films release.

That being said I was looking forward to the 30's and 40's era serial Edition as i am a fan of the Flash Gordon serials with Buster Crabbe.

Silent film edition is a nice concept as well but i first came into this thread thinking you had done the same thing that person on youtube did with Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The prequels being Silent does that make them any better.  Did you fix the awful Lucas dialogue between padme and anakin ? Just taking out Hayden whining voice is a real plus, did you take out Jar Jar?  Did you fix his dumb ebonic speak like phantom editor did?

To be fair lately i have Found Mark Hamill's whining Voice in the originals Grating on my nerves, but not like getting a root canal like Hayden Christensen's voice.

It would be cool To make a Noir ish detective story out of Episodes II subplot with Obi searching for Kamino, too bad most of the footage was never shot or finished. If Lucas played up that old hard boiled detective story angle it would have been cool.  I know he is a fan of The Maltese Falcon.

Is the Silent  film edit cut like Metropolis by Fritz Lang?  I have always thought it would be a cool edit to do of star wars 1977 to edit it in black and white and Call it "the metropolis edit".  Sadly i am no fan editor to i leave that up to those with the skills, lol.

From what I have heard the rough cut of star wars by John Jympson almost come off as a flash gordon serial with the sillyness of the film Help! thrown in for good measure.

The deleted Cantina rough footage for instance on the Behind The Magic CD-Rom is very much like Flash Gordon, though Kenobi cutting the dude down in the bar fight is from either Yojimbo or Sanjiro a Kurosawa film.
