Plus, why should I be mad at George if Disney owns the Sw franchise? It's a buried hatchet.

I can't wait for the rise of the Disney bashers. If Disney doesn't ever release the OOT, it's bound to happen.

I think its far more likely the haters will go after Abrams.  Like they did Lucas.

Or perhaps the fans will be split like on  Abrams star trek.  You know the divide between absolute loathing of Abrams, or outright worship or maybe like the average joes not give a damn and fall somewhere in the middle.  Like i don't care as long as their is plenty of action and plenty of stuff blowing up  and woman walking around in their underwear, the last part unlikely in  a children's film.

Some so called Star Trek fans have used the same term about Abrams destroying  their childhood, so why not star wars.  And i suppose hot waffles will bring their song out again and replace Lucas name with Abrams.

JJ Abrams blanked our childhood.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

I loved Lincoln but some of his modern stuff is hit or miss.

Crystal Skull is an aberration really though and its not as bad as i thought back in 2008.  Its still the worst of the 4 films.

Can Kathy be forgiven for KOTCS yeah i think so as long as Star Wars VII at least hits its mark.  Makes tons of money but a critical failure like episodes I and II i cannot see happening.  Nor can i see total box office bomb like john carter or lone ranger.  The critics can get it wrong they mostly loved Indiana Jones IV and Star Wars episode III. So if episode VII is even in the level of quality of those it will do well.

But from a money standpoint its brilliant marketing keep changing the films so people continue to watch the product.

If he let them alone they would be stuck in the time they were made, perhaps Lucas worried the would and cease to be relevant.

Would people have paid tons of cash in 1997 to see non restored not cgi versions of the films.  Would just as many people have bought the dvd's and blu rays if they were simply the theatrical films untouched?

I wish the answer would be yes but i don't know.  Its possible the majority prefer the newer cuts with all the bells and whistles and its borne out really by how much the blu rays have sold.

I've been told by those in the department stores selling the blu rays no one wants the terrible old versions with the bad effects and models on wires.

Mark, Carrie and Harrison have yet to be officially announced as being in the film though.

If Luke's the central hero again and its was Kasdan's idea i really cannot judge until i see the film.

There is already a lot of ageism going on even without a single bit of footage yet shot.

And i take the rumors with a grain of salt, Kenobi's granddaughter.  Ridiculous sort of thing like some of the early prequel ones.

What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

Kind of like Gantoris having a purple lightsaber in KJA trilogy.

And everyone hates KJA.

Lucas expressly stated that the good guys only have green or blue, and that the bad guys are red only.

I remember Kotor had 3 colors and they were by class like an RPG thing.  the only one besides blue and green was yellow.

Kotor II allowed your past lightsaber and lightsaber build to be multiple colors but in both Kotor I and II red is pretty much a Sith color.

Who should the villain(s) of the sequel trilogy be? (if the sequel trilogy has villains)
Time

That is what i thought.

So i got my memory a little mixed up because i read both originally around the same time.    Have not read Dark Empire in over ten years and am afraid it would be too jarring to read again as i think it has probably not aged well.  Loved it in the 90's.

I bet i would be super critical of dark empire II and Empire's end as well.  Probably better left in memory only.

Also if i am not mistaken Zahn, Veitch and Anderson tried to have some kind of overlapping continuity if not successful in execution they had the idea for the stories to intersect.

Worst thing about the Jedi Academy trilogy for me was Mara and Luke not being together.  But apparently that was a decision that came from LFL and they did not relent til vision of the future and union were published.

Throw in Barbara Hambly not being on the same page and creating Callista its sort of a mess.

I wouldn't even call it "voice acting". They're not voice actors, they're just big-name celebrities using their regular voices =|

I do remember people being incensed that Dana Scully's voice was in the movie.  Gillian's an actress.  Your stuck on her playing a single role too bad.

Anyway that is what i said to one of my friends who hated that she was in the movie.  Watch the DVD with the Japanese dialogue track with subtitles then.

Or were they dubtitles.  I cannot exactly remember been ages since i saw the DVD.

Yeah for some reason Hayden was chosen specifically because he was sullen like James Dean or something.

Sullen and wooden.  And its not just star wars he is horrible in everything else i have seen him in  and unbearable.

And Natalie Portman possibly most overrated actress in modern times.

Not as bad in Thor but still wallpaper.  And could easily have been replaced with almost any other actress.

Sadly only a few complained and the 2004 set was a huge success, and pretty much the same thing happened with the blu rays.

Just owning the films regardless of what was changed is what average joe's cared about.

The 2006 set with the non anamorphic  bonus dvd was a non event really and did not sell as well as the 2004 set.  Or the Blu rays.

The claims are that it sold poorly because the original was not restored and was from a 1993 master, Lucasfilm seems to think it sold poorly because no one is interested in the originals.

How Many Han Solo type clone characters are there or multiple versions of copies of the Millennium Falcon?

The EU made them dime a dozen.

I sort of hate them but i understand why they exist.

Even when they are not specifically the same thing and not a Corellian YVT freighter.

Han Solo first became a template.  Its like Boba being the template for all the later Bounty Hunter character ripoffs.

Was Zahn the one that had the Emperor keep slain Jedi's lightsabers as a trophy. Or was that Dark Empire.

Or was that specifically just Luke's lightsaber stored at mount tantiss along with his hand in the vault?

That seems to me the kind of conceit the Emperor would have like when he refers to Vader as Kenobi's star pupil in the Return of the Jedi novelization.

The Disney one is Michael Keaton on Porco Rosso.  The laserdisc i have is some other actor.

But i also believe like all the older dub's except for Kiki it was released on DVD prior to being excluded on the blu ray.

Note i only mentioned Kiki because Warriors of the Wind is a cut version of Nausicaa and only available on vhs.  And never in Japan.

The English script for Princess Mononoke is quite good, its Neil Gaiman.  But most people cannot agree they either love the voice acting or hate it.

Did Lucas intend the Jedi to be so stupid in the prequels or is Lucas himself actually as stupid as they are?

They come off as stupid.  But i think its to show how dogmatic they are and set in their ways like religious fanatics.

Morally superior and arrogant to the core.

If i did not know any better i would think it was a nod to certain Christians of the right wing political persuasion in our own country.

After all Anakin quotes Bush.

Was Palpatine supposed to have a lightsaber when ROTJ was made? I ask because Kasdan asked Lucas if Palpatine was a Jedi and Lucas responded by saying that anybody can use The Force.

Not as far as i know he only ever had a cane like Yoda.  And then both have lightsabers in the prequels which is rubbish.

Also does the 97 have digital smearing

 Yes.

IIRC the only masters with "digital smearing" were the ones used for the DC/Faces/GOUT because the notorious "dirt concealment" method was used.

That would mean the '97 is smear-free.

Only real problem would be its from an analog video disc from 1997-98.

Unless of course the DVB  were used, you would have to ask Team Blu.

Anyway the DVB have their own issues as well.

This started Mr. Lucas on the long trend of combining characters for narrative efficiency that eventually gave us (General  Vader+Prince Valorum+Starkiller=Darth Vader) and Leia as Luke's sister.

You know, I think I just realized the fundamental problem with the prequels...

The rushed time frames the scripts were produced in.

You need to have time for rewrites, because you need to get the script to that level of quality that comes when you revise it from the script.

You don't start the script in pre-production, you start pre-production once you've finished the script.

(for the record, I'm in the middle of a massive rewrite of my own script right now, and it's rather cleansing)

That is only true on episode II and III which really began in the art department. Episode I was started in nov 1994.

On the originals Lucas had other writers, people who contributed ideas and  criticism.

He had no such collaboration on the prequels unless Jonathan Hales had a great deal of influence over episode II.
