Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971

Are there any HD broadcasts that don't come from the Lowry treated versions?

The DVNR was just bizarrely applied in some of the films as if it was done automatically and not scene by scene or frame by frame.

Even more heavily applied on things like the credits or things like optically composite shots.

Some of the films are certainly cleaner and sharper than they originally looked

But i don't think that was the Director's or Cinematographer's intent.

First DVNR scrubbed and then sharpened and re-color timed.  Its shit its not the films they made.  It may be pleasing to look at but not theatrically accurate.

Transformers: The Movie (1986 animated version) (a WIP)

My issues with the Aus BD is that it's 50hz and has been known to not play in a US PS3 (my main bd player), so it does me no good.  And with all of the extras in Pal as well, it's pointless for me.

Though the UK BD is barebones and with messed up sound (that irks the hell outta me), it is playable for me.

Though you can see the tracking line in one part.

That and even if you could play the pal bonus materials they are frame blended as mentioned and have pal speed up.

I cannot understand why there is no North American BD or Japanese BD, region A   I mean it was produced in those 2 countries. And if it has a market anywhere it would be in those countries in large numbers.  Not to crap all over European customers but Transformers up til a point was always a joint Japanese/USA production.

Best Of Both Worlds

There are aspects of the 1997 Special Edition (but not subsequent DVD/Blu-Ray alterations) that don't bother me at all, so a definitive Star Wars for me would have some but not all of these. Two exceptions would be Greedo not shooting at Han and keeping Sebastian Shaw as the ghost of Anakin. Does anybody else out there fall into this camp?

So what you want is semi specialized versions?

Originally the 1997 was supposed to just be the original first movie restored for its 20th anniversary aka Star Wars, with no added cgi whatsoever.  Then Lucas wanted to redo the effects, and was able to get Fox to pay for the whole trilogy restore and new effects as a test run for the prequels and he had not to pay a dime.

I think the project was initiated at first because when they looked at the state of the negative in 1994/95 they found it was so badly degraded they could lose everything if it was not saved.

For Star Wars being saved and FOX putting up the money makes total sense at the time as they still owned Star Wars 1977 and not Lucas.

The secret prequel deal has always been pretty much figured to be how Lucas got the original films rights back.

Sick of Star Wars Prequel bashing....
Time

To me the thing was with II and III we were supposed to like and sympathize with Anakin.  It would be like losing a member of our family like Rick M said.

It should have been about choices and the slow seduction to evil by slowly making him make compromises which ultimately undermine the person he once was.  But he never really was that noble idealized individual  we thought he was, it was all lies by Obi Wan to train Luke to be a weapon to destroy his own father.

Based on the poor way the prequels came out i believe Anakin in Episode III the Jedi are Evil.  Obi Wan is the most vile and evil person imaginable and so is Yoda.

Luke is just a pawn in their quest to defeat the Sith and Palpatine and cover up their failings.

Had Luke known the truth he would have no more joined the sith than the jedi maybe he would have learned the force  and wiped both of them out as they were both clearly evil and manipulative in seeking their own ends.

Both Sects of the same religious dogmatism and clearly both placed themselves above people.

What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

The rule of two nowhere says there are not hidden Sith splinter groups according to the eu.  Simply that its Bane's line of successors.

Just as why cannot there be Jedi groups not governed or answerable to the council?

We are lead to believe there were limited Jedi and Palpatine somehow destroyed them all with Vader's help.

But in the Eu there are some groups who use the force who neither claim to be jedi or sith.

In reality in think there would be far more diversity and different denominations among Jedi and Sith as there are in and outside of orthodox  Christianity.

Using that reference because i am not well versed in if there are schisms or different tribes of belief in other religions.

Info: Recommended Editions of Disney Animated (and Partially Animated) Features
Time

Creating images digitally and then storing them to return to them years and years later i hear can be a pain in the neck.

Supposedly CBS digital will have their hands full if and when they decide to revisit  Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Voyager.

All the CGI has to be re-rendered in HD.

Not sure if Disney is the same idea.

What about Disney/Lucasfilm they could  re-render the horrid star wars prequels for higher resolution but the price tag would not be worth it.

Boba Fett Spin-Off May Put a New Character in the Armor
Time

Heard this rumor and frankly it is a terrible idea. Imho. It is implied Boba in the original trilogy was just some random dude who stole the Mandalorian armor an impostor.

Its not as bad as say him being Jango's clone although he already has been overdubbed by that bad actor in 2004.  So how can he not be his clone if he has the same voice?

Would prefer they pretend the prequels never happened or were just vid tapes that were made by unreliable narrator's.

John Williams CONFIRMED for Episode VII
Time

The two Non Barry scores on Bond done while he was alive were not as good if he had done them.

Yeah variety is great and all but other than the main themes Spy Who Love Me and For Your Eyes only were pretty big misses in my book.

While Living Daylights was a  great score by Barry.

Its all opinion of course.  I have met people who prefer Hamlich over Barry.

The Rocky Composer whose name escapes me at the moment was passable but no Barry.

Sick of Star Wars Prequel bashing....

Of all the prequel movies at least episode I is a film even if a Mediocre one.  II and III were shot on low quality HD cam and starred that horrible Hayden Christensen.

II and III have aged really badly because of their really cheap fake green screen made sets and bad cgi.  But above all the acting is atrociously bad and so is the plot especially in episode III.

II is just unwatchable at any level.  And III technically a C- but an F in terms of execution of the plot and acting.

All three suffer from unlikable characters but most strongly in II and III.   Bad pacing, bad editing.  Extremely sophomoric directing hard to believe its the same man who directed the original star wars, American Graffiti etc.

They were not superbly written by any means but Anakin and Padme were sort of likable in Episode I even at a poorly done level.Heroic, plucky and noble.

In II and III they are insufferable, selfish arrogant and pretty much evil people.

Clone Wars.

I hate that Boba Fett was no longer a mandalorian because Jango was revealed to not be one in the clone wars cartoon.  Never liked Jango but by extension Boba was no longer a Mando.  Extremely stupid.

Disliked the Return of Darth Maul.

Hated Maul's brother and insipidly stupid name Savage Oppress.

Anyways its all the same as i said before verbatim.  Lucas additions to the series were shit.  Just as his input into the force unleashed games was.

The stuff Lucas had no hand in was easily better than the prequels.

Flat and lifeless? it was effen beautiful! Deakins shold have won an Oscar

Flat and Lifeless aka artificial.  There was no film grain.

Did not mean colorless or that the actual shooting was suspect.

Nine out of ten people probably would not notice any difference however.  I am not claiming his work is unprofessional in any way.

One thing i really do appreciate about the Craig series is the limited cgi.

Shots may still be manipulated digitally but you don't have silly things like invisible cars.

The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread
Time

I read an article from the new york times regarding Lucas retirement around the release of red tails and he seems to reference Adywan's edit without even mentioning by name.

“On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie,” Lucas says, referring to fans who, like the dreaded studios, have done their own forcible re-edits. “I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.’ ”

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

darklordoftech said:

The Luke-Vader-Emperor scenes in ROTJ are truly underrated. Vader's redemption makes me cry every time.

Yeah as long as its the version without the noooooooooooooooooo!

Another horrible addition that borders on trolling.

Yeah Lucas thinks he is clever.  Chewie does the Tarzan yell in the original 1983 version of return of the Jedi so he thought I'll make Vader in rots Frankenstein's monster.  At least we were spared his Tarzan han solo.  growing up with the wookies and being chewies bro.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

I did not hate  Furlong in T2, i did hate him in that horrid 3-D movie as well as Arnold.  It was totally phoned in with a bad story as well and supposedly written and directed by Cameron.  Some even called it his T3.

As for star wars what audience is Disney shooting for PG?

I assume they want the broadest possible audience so there is little hope the sequel trilogy will be adult in any way.

I doubt Disney would even do  what Lucas did on Revenge of the Sith with the violence on the volcano planet when Skywalker loses all his limbs and burns in the lava. Securing a PG-13 rating.
