When did the prequels officially suck?
Time

Is this thread about when people realised the prequels sucked or When people Realised George Lucas started to suck.  I would say it was sometime After The last Crusade was released up until the Phantom Menace premiered.

There were some Signs early on Like More American Graffiti, Howard the Duck, and Radioland Murders.  Return of the Jedi was a drop in quality between star wars and empire strikes back.  And except for some Fine moments Young Indy basically bombed and sucked.  I liked Willow but the critics hated it.

The first turd Lucas put out was the holiday special in 1978.  He was also responsible for the awful temple of doom which incidentally is no longer the bastard outing of the Indiana Jones series.  Crystal Numbskulls now is.

Indy IV was the single worst movie i saw in theaters since Ghostbusters 2.  Even worse than the prequels because it ruined an icon.  The only comparison i can make is If Lucas made episode 7 of star wars and crapped all over the characters of Luke, Han and Leia.

At least in the prequels i never cared for the characters or felt attached to them emotionally.  They were cardboard cutouts in a video game cutscene.

I can attribute my 2 biggest cinema dissapointments in my entire Life to George Lucas.  The First is 1999's the Phantom Menace aka the phantom plot movie, and the second is kingdom of the crystal Skull aka Crystal Numbskulls or kingdom of the crystal turd.

I just about walked out of the theater in 1999 when that Racist caricature Jar Jar Binks made his first Appearance.  It was all downhill from there.  I had extremely low expectations for Episodes II and III and still Lucas managed to dissapoint.

And you think the prequels were bad or had cringeworthy Dialogue Clone Wars was the worst piece of trash to ever come out of the star wars canon.  Skyguy, Stinky and Artooie.

Even the bad and campy jokes of the 30's and 40's movie serials pale in comparison to the poor and juvenile jokes of the prequels, clone wars 2008 or Indiana Jones IV.

You never had Flash Gordon stepping in poo, or making a bizarre love conversation with dale arden while managing to be entirely wooden and creep audiences out at the same time stalker eyes.

I will never pay to see another peice of Lucas modern garbage filmaking again.

He has had way too many chances to get something right and had only gotten worse over time.  He has had like  5 chances to make a good movie.  And yet people still drink the Lucas kool aid.  Ever hear the saying "fool me once shame on you.  Fool me twice shame on me."

Lets count the times Lucas gave people a pig in a poke and they still showed up for his next serving of table crumbs.

1 Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace

2. Star Wars Episode 2:  Attack of the Clones

3. Star Wars Episode 3:  Revenge of the Sith

4.   Indiana Jones IV: KOTCS

5 Clone Wars 2008

Apparently Lucas is well aware of his shortcomings as a screenwriter and director as he is neither writing or Directing Red Tales.  He will only Executive produce the Tuskagee Airmen biopic.  Even his colleague Spielberg lately had taken up the producers role Giving Trial of the Chicago Seven to Ben Stiller to direct and passing on Directing it Himself.  God knows he certainly deserved a year off from directing after Indy 4 .  That phoning in, ahem i mean film shoot must have been exhausting.

Blu-ray prices not coming down
Time

I hope Blu Ray fails because of its non user friendly drm and such nonsense.  It would serve Sony right.  They put out a crappy game system with No good games and the load times are way too long.

PS3 is overpriced and retarded until they have the same size library of games as the XBOX360, in comparable quality. As it is the only game i know of that is exclusive at this point is Metal Gear GUNS of the Patriots.  They lost exclusivity on Final Fantasy XIII which made me lol cause now i don't have to buy a PS3 and can have my 360 which works well on my standard def tv and tell sony to shove it.

Howard the Duck at long last?
Time

The uncut UK dvd is really just the US theatrical version.  The official Vhs tape has always had those scenes.

Only the UK broadcast and UK vhs tape were censored as far as i know.  Though the US broadcasts might have been censored when it first aired on TV.

So basically all it has is the condom scene and the cigerette lighter tongue scene that were cut from the UK prints by the censors.

Man those europeans are strange they also cut that headbutt in Star Wars Episode II.

Thanks to those Uk censors no uncut version of Goldfinger exists because they cut the master print.

Besides Pal speedup, i would never buy the UK version of a film because they cut things that make zero sense.

If not for region coding on Blu Ray the whole NTSC VS PAL would be a moot point anyway.

You can thank sony and their ultra consumer friendly drm schemes that limit the use of a product people paid for and also have the legal right to fair use.

If not for their rediculous region coding schemes you could play japanese games on your us playstation without having to resort to buying a japanese playstation 3 to play the games.

These constant firmware updates and codes locking you out from watching a movie you bought on the movie player you paid money for is stupid.  Until they stop the nonsense i'll continue to support plain old dvd.

I know that people really hate sony and the drm so a lot of people ilegally download BLu ray rips and watch them on their media center pc.

The Gout is completely unaceptable.  Especially the dvnr on star wars.

Non Anamorphic less than DVD quality.

I'm Suprised more fans and critics are not as outraged as i am.

Lucas releases a 1993 quality release in 2006, he basically put out a subtandard and obsolete product.  He released a 20th century quality of a movie in the 21st century not up to standard.

The cheapskate should pay for a 4k archival scan of the originals by Robert Harris.  I mean we all paid to see his worthless prequel movies its only fair.

Then put out a blu ray release and a dvd release simultaneously.

Then the fans who want the originals like me in exceptable quality will shut up and go on our merry way while he continues to Tinker with his silly cgi.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

JJ is either a genius for throwing out 40 plus years of trek and Starting over or a moron.

Canon in such big fictional Franchises needs to be able to expand and contract.  A lot has been added to the canon throughout the years.  Similar to Star Wars it is almost impossible to make everything match up without Contradictions and so forth.  In Lucas case he very wisely set the EU apart from the films to avoid having constant retcons.  Yet he went ahead and did worse to the canon than the EU ever did with the prequels and Special Editions continued to be tinkered with to fit his current vision of his created universe.

The prequels and their canon was so vastly different from the Original Trilogy i sometimes wonder why he did not make them to Match the original films or completely Remake the old Trilogy.  At least in that scenario the originals would be untouched and would not have to be buried.

Kirk as a rebel was started by Nicholas Meyer and Harve Benett.  Star Trek II revamped the series and injected Shakespeare drama and classic literature, as well as militarism that was not a part of Roddenberry original design at least according to him.

I personally don't think Star Trek was always that way.  His philosophical outlook changed during the Movie years and during the Next Generation.  His vision of the future could no longer have conflict.  Everyone worked together, and there was no disease, hunger or money.  Star Trek did originally have social issues Talked about in the guise of science fiction and a quasi hippie idealism to it in the begiinning.  But it also had conflict and Was basically a space western.

There was sex and violence at least what was allowed in those times in the rejected "too cerebral pilot"   The Cage.

Roddenberry like Lucas after him took way more credit than was his due by Appropriating the work of his employees and claiming it as his own.   A great deal Of Star Trek was Dorothy (D.C.) Fontana and Gene Coon. Also Samuel Peoples.  Nimoy himself pretty much created the character of Spock with Little to go on from Gene's rough idea. Just like the Kirk character was Created and interpreted by William Shatner in a way that made the character live and breathe.  Actors are a large portion of the creation and they almost never get the recognition they deserve especially in science fiction.

Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford should be applauded for breathing Life into the characters in the original star wars trilogy.  Had the characters been played by Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman etc.  they would have been as sterile as the prequels and its phony cgi are.

Yeah starting to get back to the future ish which is rediculous.

The show has become a joke to the Cameron Terminators.

And the time lines getting skewed every week is much more confusing than trying to make sense of T3 after seeing the first 2 movies.

Its Like star trek the next generation every week they can hit the reset button.

Still the show is exciting and action packed and far more enjoyable to most of tv.

Compare this Show to Heroes which has become a joke of Late.  Producers being fired, and its creator lashing out at fans.

Yes and instead of Getting court martialed she is Promoted to Fleet Admiral and Picard has to take orders from her.

I believe i read once that they were looking for a Female Kirk Type Chracter and that was Kathryn Janeway.

They were so far away from home she was supposed to be like the Person on the frontier making decisions.

Kind of Like Wagon Train to the Stars.   Rodenberry never denied that Star Trek was just a space western with Social Themes.

Both Kirk and Han Solo are space cowboys.

The original Actress picked to play Janeway not Mulgrew was less warm and witty or outgoing.  She was more cold and scientific, very much how the Picard character started out until they made him More Kirk Like.

The funny thing is i think of Mulgrew and i think of the character she played in the movie remo williams, lol.

I also laughed out loud that Tom Paris was played by the guy from Masters of the Universe.  "good Journey"

"You can't say the CG models in episode 1,2 or 3 look bad"

I do all the time they look nothing like the hand built motion control models in the originals.   And being Earlier types in the evolution of star wars ship techology they should look like the originals from an earlier point in time.

They looked all too fake and overly bright and did not have the used universe look to them.

The prequels should look more primitive than the originals not more advanced.  But that is what you get when you make the backstory for a film series 26 years after the fact.

Nobody still got the point i was trying to make that cgi is just another tool the filmakers can use it should not drive the movie the story and characters should.  Cgi is an often inferior tool to traditional effects because it looks phony and is still not where it has to go to be believable if at any time simultated reality can replace real physical objects you can see and touch.

You could make an arguement that the average filmgoer cannot notice the difference, but i can.  A trained eye can pull out every mistake and flaw they make in a film to the point of movies no longer being enjoyable.

People who only grew up with cgi films and they are just the norm will Not skip a beat.

All the best films i love and have seen in my life were all shot mostly traditionally.  They were made in the 70s and 80's and nobody cares for that style of filmaking anymore.  There are few exceptions Batman Begins and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, those are cgi films i like.

I no longer go to the cinema as it is mostly mindless bubblegum crap for the teeny bopper scene.  If anything is even worth a single watch i watch it on dvd.

They don't make em like they used to and that is a crying shame.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars

Every overladen Cgi blockbuster can be tied back to Lucas in some way so i don't understand your question.  JJ is taking inspiration from the prequels and is using the same ILM crew that wroked on the prequels you don't see a connection.  He met with Spielberg and Lucas and nobody that had anything to do with Trek.

If you can watch that trailer and not see that they are going for the same feel as the star wars prequels then you must be blind.  Even the Kirk as a rebel james dean type character is a throwback to Hayden as Anakin.

Has nothing to do with the real canon history of the character as i have read the novels and seen the films Roddenberry sanctioned as canon.

Robert April was Captain of The USS constitution and George Kirk was his first officer.  He did not serve under some no name Cuban captain on some Stupid ship called the Kelvan.    That is JJ idea.  Kirk and Pike were not on the enterprise as the same time try decades seperate.

This movie is a joke to those who loved the old series and the old movies 1-6.  It can in no way be a prequel since nothing matches up.  Unless they use some lame time travel excuse which would be totally orci by the way.  These guys wrote the horrible dialogue for Transformers.  They wrote and directed MI3 which felt like a tv episode and not a movie.  JJ is a tv director not a movie director.  The studio was not at all happy with MI3 but blamed Cruise instead of JJ.  They also blamed Cruise for the failure of War of the Worlds and not Spielberg.  Paramount is a very bizarre studio.  They allowed Spielberg to Direct Indiana Jones IV after the debacle that was War of the Worlds and knowing what Lucas did to the prequels they allowed him to produce and write the story.

Now they made up with Cruise and want a blockbuster MI4 in the vein of MI2 to star Cruise and possibly be directed by him.  If he does not direct he will be the producer.

The paramount suits don't care if this new movie is garbage and not real Star Trek as they never cared for Gene's creation anyway, they only care if it makes money and can be sold to the lowest common demoninator and the teen audience.  So they tell JJ to put in a bunch of sex and explosions and Throw hundreds of millions of dollars at this piece of trash that will be all cgi and rubbish and not true at all to Roddenberrys vision.

Does not surprise me back in the day they dumpstered all the original effects elements of the original series so when they wanted an HD version of the show the effects had to be recreated.  They even sold the props and physical ship models Like the beautiful model that was used on the motion picture.  So they could create an abomination inside a computer by Ryan Church.

When the story should be Science Based Science Fiction that makes you wonder Trek at its best was cerebral not lowbrow action.  It should go forward in time Later than Nemesis not backwards the same stupidity of the star wars prequels.  It should be about contempory issues like the new Galactica addressed and be about Going Boldly where no one has gone before.  It should be darker and more serious in tone to reflect current post 911 world we live in.  The original series and next generation have been done to death already.

Why not the 27th century adventures of an entirely new Enterprise , where the federation is nearing collapse and there are dark forces out there they have to fight.   Too Militaristic and far from Roddenberry's vision but at least you could have some unpredictable ness that would lead to drama.

I guess at Least in spirit JJ's trek is true to Roddenberrys Hopeful Future.  I not sure that is the trek people want right now they tried that already with enterprise.

Are positive hopeful stories even wanted anymore.  The dark Knight was so huge because it was dark and in vogue with our times.

So the casting is all wrong and so is the look of the enterprise.  But this film is clearly not being made for me or my generation.  It is being made for the young people who loved the prequels of star wars and hated the originals.  Still Star Trek is science fiction and star wars is not science fiction.  It is space fantasy they have nothing to do with one another and JJ mixing the universes is like comparing apples to oranges or mixing oil with water.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars

The fact that Simon Pegg is playing scotty pretty much says they are marketing this film to non star trek fans.  i don't think James Doohan and immediately see Simon Pegg playing Scotty.

Who the fuck is Simon Pegg anyways?  and what does he have to do with Star Trek.  James Doohan Scotty was a loved character on an old tv series i grew up with.

This other guy is from some crap horror comedy and is the new Jar Jar Binks in Trek 2009.

I'm sure all the kiddies Love Pegg but i could not give a fuck about the guy as he had not been in a single movie i have watched and enjoyed.  Wow he is some actor who is hip to the teen or twenty somethings crowd whatever not my generation, i could not give a fuck about it.

I am a fan of Alias and Lost but i don't think Abrams is the guy for this movie.  and Ryan Church's enterprise is an Obomination.  The dialogue is cringeworthy just Like these dudes work on transformers and is too much like episodes 1-3.  Also the cgi is way too over the top and just looks wrong to me.  I like the old ILM stuff all this computer stuff is wonky and rather silly and expensive looking.  Looks like a cartoon.

Read Abrams Script for Superman and then tell me he is the right guy to be doing star trek.

That shit was like a hundred times worse than Superman Returns.

When i think of movie Star Trek.  I think of Proberts Enterprise.  I think of Douglas Trumbell and John Dykstras work, and the later work of Ken Ralston at ILM.

I don't think of the guys who worked on the prequels and would not know design if it bit them on the ass.   They design movies like videogames.

Cgi lacks realism and Believablility.  It is still in its infancy and does not yet even approximate reality.  CBS digitals enterprise Lacks the weight and scale the original physical model had.  The model was far more detailed.  Models look more real because they are a physical reality and the naked eye knows the difference.  Cgi is 1's and 0's in a computer.

Just like if you took a picture of a real object like the whitehouse for instance it looks more real because it is real.  Unlike an image faked in a computer.

Yes movies are a fictional Universe of fictional characters and places and objects that don't really exist.  But traditional efects at this point still look more real.  Maybe within the next ten years digital chracters will look more lifelike, digital objects and similated reality and enviroments.  Right now they have hit a ceiling on what they are able to do.

I have seen 3-D animated movies and the art is still not there yet.

It really comes down to what you prefer.  I prefer hand drawn animation as an art over computer animation.  I am still a fan of computer animation and cgi to a lesser extent than the traditional way of doing things.  A compromise of the 2 is the best at this point.  Eventually they will no longer need to go shoot anywhere and no longer need actors except for performance or voice over as 100% of a movie could be made on a computer.  They would only need to capture an actors likeness digitally, and get elements photographicaly that they then would manipulate in the computer.

They tried shooting digital background Plates for Indiana Jones IV for instance instead of Going on Location to shoot it with the actors and it looked awfully fake.

Why do miniatures Bluescreen, glass mattes, and hand built models look less fake than green screen and live action composite i don't know.  Someone just feels wrong when i was watching the movie.  You could see and tell the artists manipulation pulling you out of the movie.  The real art is to not show the work to call attention to itself and augment the story.  It is almost as if you could personify the special effect it is jumping up and down and yelling "Look at me! Look at Me! I'm A Special Effect!".  At what point in the history of making movies did the movie become a showcase for Special effects, and the story and characters were forgotten.

Movies are like a competition between the effects houses to see who will get the Academy Award, and how they can one up each other.  Just Like each Star Wars film had to outdo the last in terms of Special effects.  There is a danger in the focus being shifted to the effects and the story being forgotten.  Yes the artists deserve recognition but their job is to make the story work not to draw attention to themselves.

It would be like a magician getting on stage and showing the audience how all the sleight of hand was done.  and so the magic dies.    The audience has to be made to believe it is real in the context of the movie and its story for 2 hours or the art is ruined.

The Prequels did not lack stunning Effects what they lacked was subtlety in terms of using the effects to further the story.  But it is not the digital Artists fault that the scripts were technically brillliant but lacked a good story.

A good movie always depends on starting with a good screenplay.  Then you get a good director and good actors to follow.  Good actors cannot salvage a terrible script and an incompetant director who is poor at dealing with actors and getting a performance.

You know what's better than Star Wars?
Time

I am glad the original trilogy fits Ralph's Designs fairly closely minus small details.

Had the originals been designed by Ryan Church this site would probably not exist.

one of the biggest problems of the prequels is it did not follow those original ralph designs and concepts, the used universe.  The prequels looked like a videogame and nothing like the originals.

Doug Chiang style was different but he tried to incorpate ralph's ideas  into his design paintings, he wanted to honor those designs somewhat.  He was not involved in episode II and III to a great detriment to those films.

His art was more art noveau instead of art deco like Ralph's.  Still his porfolio was collectible and sold out.  He made a book called Robotica which he worked on with Ralph i think.

Those who hate Ralphs work also hate real star wars as the prequels are not real star wars movies.  I'm going to buy the book the art of Ralph Mcqaurrie as soon as i have enough money as the trade edition is a 150.00 bucks from a small press.

I had to laugh out loud when negative 1 said lucas releasing the originals on dvd in non anamorphic from a laserdisc master was innovative.

Gone are the days when LFL was about innovation and pushing the envelope.  If you think backwards technology in 2006 that would have been acceptable in 1993 is progress than there is no talking to you.

The original negatives are rotting someplace and may be too late at some point to ever have those versions of the movies again.  Having a 2004 cut in a limited resolution master of 1080p is unaceptable.  When the original should get a real restoration by someone like Richard Harris at 4k.  So the movie can be seen in the cinemas again and get a real dvd and blu ray release.

The Lucas who created the oot and the Lucas who created the Prequels and suppressed and destroyed the original movies are 2 very different people.

The modern Lucas is responsible for the trend of CGi Blockbusters with zero story that are junvenile in nature.  His influence in modern cinema is currently destroying another franchise Star Trek.

Lucas hands people a pile of shit and they eat it up like it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Seriously Keep drinking the Lucas Kool Aid and eating his table crumbs while the original films are buried and may be lost to time.  The cutting up of the negatives was criminal at least imho.

The last decent film he made that was not full of crap cgi was in 1989.  and was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  Directed by Spielberg and Executive Prodcuced by him and story credited to him.

Young Indy was a drop in quality but was still a good show in many ways because of the other actors, writers and directors involved.

The ruination started in nov 1 1994 when he put pencil to paper on the first prequel movie.  Then came 1997 special editions which were embraced at the time as a cool alternative edit and not a replacement for the originals.  Had lucas honesly told filmgoers i will bury the old movies they would have boycott the release in 1997. in 1999 Star Wars suffered the worst it could ever suffer up to that point with the Introduction of the Phantom Menace and Jar Jar binks.  Poop and fart jokes and racist characters, lol what a winning combination.

Each movie that proceeded that last got progressively worst.   Return of the Jedi was the weakest of the oot but was still a pretty good movie despite the ewoks and Han Solo standing around for 2 hours with Nothing really to add to the story.   Then Episode 1 came out and was even worse than Return of the Jedi.  Only getting return viewers to see the duel of the fates at the end of the movie.   Episode II was even worse looked like a friggin PS2 game cutscene.  and Episode III  Sith was the worst of all because of the failed believability of Anakin's turn to the dark side and the over acting by ian as palpatine and anakin as wooden as ever.

Then came Indiana Jones IV.  My god this movie was just so bad it was like a sequel to plan 9 from outer space.   The cgi was laughable and took you right out of the movie.

Oh sure their were parts i liked.  But the film does not stand apart on its own like the old movies do.  This had the same problems as the prequels a phoned in kind of feel to everything.  And the whole selling point was nostalgia.  The prequels and Indy 4 would have failed had they not been riding the coatails of the legendary originals.  At least the scores for the prequels were better than the films.  Not much to recommend on the fourth Indiana jones score even Williams seemed to be generally unispired by the new film.

The clone wars film was even worse than Crystal Numbskulls.  and even the music was worse.

As much as a drop in quality and crap as they were i at least bought the dvds and cds for the prequels.  I refuse to Buy the Dvd and cd's for Indy 4, the Clone Wars movie because they just are a rental at best.  They utterly sucked.  I will probably buy the dvd for the clone wars cartoon series just because the quality is a little better than the film and Indiana Jones 4.  But not by much.  The Jar Jar character and the roger roger robots have got to go however.  I liked the genddy series i wish the third series was like that.

The savior of Star Wars in the 90's was Timothy Zahn.  His trilogy kept the feel of the original movies intact while introducing new characters to the star wars mythos.  Zahn and Bantam books as well as Dark Horse comics resurrected the franchise.   In the End the Destroyer of the franchise was its original creator Lucas.  He even ruined the EU by making the authors rewrite everything to fit his current vision.

Del Rey's Legacy of the Force Novel series ended up Being a very bad retread of the prequels.

I hated episode II and III.  Darth Vader became a Whiny Emo Goth character.  The bad ass that was Vader in my childhood was killed by Lucas.

Very unsurprising since he ruined the coolness of Boba Fett in episode II and also runied the coolness of the Jedi in the prequels by making them a bunch of spineless tools and retards.

Anakin was not even a sympathetic character i wanted him to fall in the Lava and burn, the little asswipe.  He was a prick in epsiode II and III. "  Its all Obi Wan's fault hes holding me back."  "Your with him you brought him here to kill me. liar"

Anakin was sympathetic as a character in Phantom menace but Lucas forgot to tell his story in the next 2 movies.  Unless his aim was to alienate the audience and make them hate anakin and wish for him to die on Mustafar.  Then he succeded brilliantly.

Lucas is such an unbelievably poor writer.  You get a better sense of the Story reading the novelizations from people who can actually write, and listening to Williams Music score.

Even so the audiences vision of the prequels from watching the original trilogy was better and grander than what we finally saw on screen.  Had the movies been made to fit the original trilogy instead of going back and adding unnesscary cgi and changes to the originals it would have been better.

Imagine a Prequel series done in the old style of the original trilogy and fit those movies like a glove.  And if cgi must have had to be used then used effectively to aid in telling the story.  Lucas original belief was that effects were to augment the story not replace.  even he said back in the day all you are doing is showing the amount of money spent and the work achieved if you make the effects overide everything else.

I can imagine in an alternate Universe Lucas followed through with his beliefs in the from star wars to jedi documentary and made a prequel series focused on story and not cgi.lol

Too bad Lucas ceased being a Luke Skywalker type and became more like the Emperor or Darth Vader.  Because not only would the prequels have been better movies but he would have given us a awesome episode 7 with the return of Luke Skywalker to the screen, and Indiana Jones IV would have been great.

But he lost the touch once he was sucessful.  Once he no Longer had to strive for greatness.  In his Youth he had abilties that were rediculous in comparison to those around him and in the industry.  That spark or fire of youth that was alive in his eallier work is missing in his new stuff.  The humanity of his earlier work is missing as well.  The cgi prequels are sterile by comparison.

So Lucas is after all Human and not a god as some have treated him through the years.  Everyone eventually loses it.   It happens to writers and musicians too when they get older or produced their best work early in their careers, and can never catch lighting in a bottle a second time.

I am saddened by the fact that George will be remembered for pioneering technology and not as a storyteller.  He had such gifts in editing and story ideas.  All he needed was to ask people to help him augment those ideas better.  Hire better screenwriters, hire directors who can direct actors.  Character directors.  He is a terrible writer in his own words, yet it is only the difficulty in getting those ideas onto paper as they are fully formed ideas in his mind.   I believe he has the mind of a genius like Thomas Eddison.

Georges biggest fault is he never appreciates his own work, it is never perfected or good enough.  I find it strange that he wants to keep the originals out of peoples hands because he is unhappy with them.  Well how about he can continue to tinker all he wants as long as the originals are preserved in good quality.

His colleagues allow many different cuts of their films to be available side by side and allow audiences the choice to pick the one they want to watch.  This is a very democratic method and i don't understand why Lucas opposes it.  When Someone Like Ridley Scott has five different cuts of Blade Runner put out so every fan is happy and can pick and choose.

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are largely responsible for the films of today being almost all crap cgi.  The turning point happened in 1993 with Jurassic Park.  Which was mostly traditional effects and animatronics but the cgi became viable on that movie.  The rest is history.  Too bad a pretty good movie and story lead to the obomination that was the Star Wars prequels, Indiana Jones IV and War of the Worlds, and Transformers.

I cannot think of a movie that has come out in the last decade and a half that has not been full of CGI and a bankrupt lack of creativity or story.  There are some exceptions Being Batman Begins and the Dark Knight minus the rediculous harvey dent two face cgi stuff. I would also put lord of the rings into the same category with some things i found overly done and stupid.

I think bad cgi and think of movies like 1998's godzilla.

Cgi movies sell large amounts of tickets and make the studios money that is the only reason i can see that the movies are all made that way.

Does it have how George Lucas destroyed Star Wars with the special editions and prequels, or how he ruined Indiana Jones with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

Lucas did not change the world all he did was change the size of his money bin.

Does it mention how in 2006 he released the original films as non anamorphic bonus discs from a laserdisc master, the biggest joke in cinematic history.

That the only star wars film to ever flop was 2008 Clone Wars?

I cannot even believe they are Giving Him Credit for Pixar.  Look at how crap the clone wars animation is in comparison to Wall-E.

I am glad Lasseter looks to great people like hayao miyazaki for inspiration and not george lucas.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

I just hope the movie is better than the early screenshots and the trailer because i hate the trailer it is the worst trailer out of all the star trek films so far.

I mean come on this movie looks to be so bad and watered down for the masses that Nemesis will be looked back on more postively by longtime Trek fans.

Personally i would have preferred another next generation film to get the bad memories of Nemesis washed away.  Or if no More next gen films, or old tos films then leap foward in time to far in the future and have the voyages of the enterpise F, or whatever letter straight onto Z.

The original series ended with The Undiscovered Country.  I would have liked to see at last one more adventure maybe something like Ashes of Eden where the enterpise A goes out in a blaze of glory rather than be decomissioned as a museum piece.  Still Paramount and Berman took their sweet time and in the years we lost both Deforrest Kelley and James Doohan, bones and scotty to those non trek fans.   It has been obvious since the days of Star Trek II that the cast was too old to be in any more movies to the point where age became a part of the story.

They had to either recast the old actors roles or do a cgi movie with the actors voices.

The next generation took a different path than it was originally going to take.  Riker still married Troi but he became Captain of the Enterprise E instead of the Titan.  Picard would have become an admiral in Starfleet.

Though supposedly Picard never became an Admiral because James Kirk told him not to accept a promotion in Generations.  Funnily enough in the same movie Riker claims he wanted to Captain the enterpise D and picard says there will be another Enterprise and he may well yet get his chance in the future.

Not sure if this was in the novelization or the movie.

Info: Italian super-8 print on eBay
Time

Six reels that are a 180 meters each.

How long does that make this print?  in terms of minutes or hours?

Does not since it is completely faded to brown and probably has italian subtitles or language track.  Also the shipping from Italy would be insanely expensive.

English is not the seller's first language and it would be hard to find much about this print out, Also not pictures of what the footage on the real actually looks like.

I will not bid on this.  But if i was the guy doing so i would definitely pass this up unless you are a collector of oddities, rarerities or just have to have every copy of star wars ever released.  Other than that i would wait for a derann scope 6 reel anamorphic print to show up for sale if i was a person who had an 8mm projector and that was how i watched my movies.

Obviously the 16mm Prints that Puggo has are better than 8mm.  and 16mm is the happy medium for home cinema people to scan themselves with a workprinter as 35mm is just not viable at this point.  Although 35mm Prints are the best quality you can get unless somehow a 70mm print that is unfaded is still out there, yeah right.

Hold me like you did by the lake on Naboo... barf
Time

Hayden's acting was horrendous in Episode II and III as well as Jumper.

Then there is that bad movie he is in with Jessica alba running and screaming saying "their trying to kill me" and  all bad performances.

Never seen Life as a house but in every other Movie i have seen him in he is awful.  They chose him for star wars because of the intensity of his eyes, and his brooding which they Called Being Like James Dean.

Brooding in every movie hardly translates to acting.  To be fair to Hayden though Lucas had to be the worst Director ever for actors, he cannot direct actors as he is not a character director.

Faster.  More Intense is all he does.

Some actors can compensate for awful dialogue and little or no direction Like Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark hamill also can have a sense of humor about it.  Generally actors are put off by quiet directors who don't talk to them.  Don't work with them to get a performance and stick them in front of a blue or green screen to act against cgi that with be put in later.

Shoot the actors seperately because a composite performance can be put together later.  Have an actor just basically stand there and look dumb because the cgi backdrop you put in Later will distract the audience from the fact there is no acting or story.

Lucas should only do special effects, have someone else direct the actors and write the story.

He should direct the the cutscenes  for videogame companies he would excel at that.  Well as long as he leaves Jar Jar out, lol.

He is for pushing the technology of moviemaking forward at the same time he is the King of Wooden Dialogue and Twerp cinema.

Preserving the...<em>cringe</em>...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)
Time

There is probably more of a chance of the holiday special being released on dvd than the oot being restored for a proper release sadly.

Also if it does get released how do you know it will not be cut or reedited Like the Ewok and Droids Cartoon.

Or that George Will put a Cgi Jar Jar in there, lol.

What is the state of the holiday special master or the nelvana cartoons?

Is the holiday special nelvana negative intact?   as i heard the negatives for the droids and ewoks cartoons were destroyed, or lost.  No one really knows.

I was suprised they held on to the original cel artwork for the special since they gave away cels to fan club members of star wars insider.  Mostly crap in between shots and not real worth much cels.  I am sure Lucas probably kept the fett and artoo and C-3p0 in his collection.

For years they sold seri cels at walt disney world.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Nimoy as spock, about time they showed that Considering that is the only thing they are doing right about this movie.  I miss shatner, but he has nothing to do with this Spock story.

William Shatner is now quite available since Boston Legal's last episodes are done and to be aired.

Too bad they cannot shoot something and just stick him in there as Kirk somewhere like in the credits or something at the end.

Zachary Quinto should be quite available for sequels as i hear heroes might get cancelled.

kevin kerner vs. john williams
Time

You are probably right.  I guess i am guilty of Prequel bashing Again.

Maybe if Kiner worked on Real Star Wars and did not ruin a classic theme i would give him a chance.

Again i don't think he is a horrible artist i just think he is not the Epical feel of Star Wars.  He is just the guy they needed for a childrens cartoon however.  That is the problem the Movie was advertised as a movie that was animated star wars that could be another episode up there with 1-6.  Instead it was a proof of concept that they used to sell the show to the networks and was sold as a standalone film to make a buck.

Who would ever Accuse Lucas and Warners of False Advertising, lol .

I can sort of feel the matinee serial vibe for his clone wars music perhaps he should score the new Flash Gordon movie.

Oh by the way his Wing Commander score was better than that awful movie deserved.  Though he had help from the David Arnold who scored Stargate the movie, and Independence Day.  They said Kiner would follow him in the biz with epic movie scores too bad he got shit on for being involved in a crap film.

He gets respect for his Sg-1 music which of course adapted Arnolds score for the small screen.

In a way i am almost happy and glad that he is making the music his own and not Copying williams.  There are too many artists who copy rather than create something different and new.

The music is different but not bad in fact in like the clone wars music for the movie and the series.  Only the Opening theme gets on my nerves, but i guess i can get used to it.

The funny thing is why does the music sometimes remind me of jungle music or tarzan or something.
