Original Trilogy Soundtrack 4 CD set
Time

Yeah and Vader magically Lands on death star II that has not been built yet and Jejjerodd greets him.  When he was supposed to land on his star destroyer, lol .

A lazy re-used footage from Return of the Jedi that not only adds needless information, but destroys the pacing of the scene.  Even the new James Earl Jones Dialogue "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival"  is not as good and chillingly delivered as the pissed off Vader in "bring my shuttle"

I mean its almost as laughable as "noooooooooooooo!"

or this liitle exhange in the 2004 cut of empire:

Emperor " i have no doubt the young rebel who destroyed the death star is the offspring of Anakin skywalker"  Vader "How is that Possible" lol

To me the worst change of all in Empire is T. Morrison redub of paul wingreen as boba fett's voice.  Seriously i wanted to smash something.

I guess we should be glad Lucas did not have Hayden redub Mark Hamills lines.  I would hate to give uncle George any more of his brilliant ideas for his extra extra super special special editions for Blu Ray.  Next thing he will have Han Solo have a walkie talkie instead of a gun, and replace chewbacca with Jar Jar.

In that version Greedo will shoot first with his walkie talkie and miss and Han Solo will shoot second and greedo will be stunned by the walkie talkie.

Original Trilogy Soundtrack 4 CD set
Time

That is because Lapti Nek film version is lost forever except for as it appears in the film itself.  The music master tape could not be found anywhere in the Lucas archives.

It may have been borowed Like the Master for the Jabba scene during the making of From Star Wars to Jedi.  And now since both are permanently Lost.

Lapti Nek exists only with the film.  Been so long since i have seen Return of the Jedi, i believe the problem is Jabbas and Oolas Huttese dialogue is mixed in with the music.

I am sure fans and bootleggers have tried making a clean version of this from this souce and given up in despair.

The only thing That could be done if Lucasfilm cared was to re-record it from the original music sheets, that is if the artist who sang it is still even available.  But they did not do so because they now had Jedi Rocks the only piece of Music written for the special editions not by John Williams.

Williams wrote that new end piece in Jedi that goes "ya ya ya ya ya."  Instead of Yub NUB, or yub yub.

There was also an LP with the dance version and Disco version of lapti nek, as well as the album version.  That with the film version means their are 4 versions of the song.

There are 2 versions of Leia Breaks the News, and 2 Versions of Funeral Pyre for a Jedi.  2 versions of The ewok Celebration song and 2 versions of the forrest battle.  The ewok Forrest battle not used in the movie is the concert suite version.

Even if you have the anthology and the rca or sony versions you still don't have all the music, but close to it.  Much closer to a complete scores than say for all 4 indiana jones scores released recently which are missing hours of material in that boxset. The prequels scores are also incomplete much more so than the original trilogy music.  The original trilogy music is a lot more played and popular and has way more re-recordings than the prequels.  The Public consensus seems to be that the prequel scores were not as good.

In fact the only Modern Scores that come close to dupliacted the quality of the oot scores are those by Howard Shore for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.  Not sure everyone would agree with that, or that the movie trilogy of lord of the rings is the modern equivalent of the immortal trilogy that star wars once was.  Before the dark times, before the gout.

Wookie Groomer's 1080p Star Wars Saga project (Released)
Time

I don't know enough about the arri lenses and arriflex Cameras used on the Phantom Menace but Star Wars in 1977 was shot on the 8-perf VistaVision system.  This was mostly the composite opticals and some live action plates.  The rest of the film was shot on 4 perf Panavision i believe.  only on Return of the Jedi during the original trilogy was the Panavision system not used.  Lucas wanted to buy 2 cameras but they would only let them rent them so they used a different camera on Jedi.

I had always thought that was a 2:35:1 Anamorphic image.  Obviously the negative area may be bigger than what is chosen to be actually shown as desired by the cinematographer.  Negative width and Chosen aspect ratio are 2 seperate things.

Yes i know some modern films are like 2:40:1 or wider.  And there are some Early examples of a wider selected aspect.  Usually it was for films that were to be shown in the 70mm format.

The only info i can find on the cameras used on episode 1 is here

http://www.theasc.com/magazine/starwars/index.html

It is under camera lenses on the Episode 1 section.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Yes In a Mirror Darkly was the best Star Trek in Years and Fucking rocked.  The last time is saw something so awesome was scotty on the enterprise D holodeck original 1701 bridge.

EdenFX did those Incredible updates on the old series effects style in cgi on In a mirror darkly. They should have done the effects on the remaster instead of cbs digital.  I think they also did the effects on Nemesis though that were less than stellar.

These are the voyages was a joke.  Second worse Trek i have seen in Modern times since Nemesis.  Yeah the old series had bad episodes during the third Season but at least those are campy fun.  You Know Spock's Brain and Turnabout Intruder.

Despite what Trekkies say Enterprise was True to the spirit of the original series and i was sad when it was cancelled.   Gene Jr who is known ad "rod"  embraced the show.

I cannot say the same thing about the new movie, it neither looks or feels to be at heart Roddenberry Star Trek.  In Fact it is Trek remade in JJ's own image.  It will be slick and Fast faced like most of his works but largely empty of any substance.  This is the guy who likes Jerking people around with Plot twists and insane drama on his shows.  Yet Lost and Alias at the end of watching them was mostly a wtf?  Like a mind fuck basically, same with Cloverfield.  Gets you to go hmm and maybe think for a bit but there is no emotional attachment to any characters and his series are loose on themes except for quick cuts and lots of action.  He be perfect for a Jason Borne movie just not Star Trek.

Info Wanted: Is anyone working on The Clone Wars 2008 - with extended material added?
Time

I thought one of the deleted scenes from the clone wars movie ended up being used in a videogame.

If you guys love Clone Wars you should really check out the Dark Horse Comics the cover art is awesome.  Too bad the interior art is never as good as the cover art though.

If you liked the prequels you should definetely check out the Republic comics that were done a whiles back, as well as The mini Obsession, and Grievous.  Also the Darth Maul graphic novel and novel are excellent, as Cloak of Deception the novel fills in the period before the Phantom Menace.  The novelizations and comic adaptations for the prequels are excellent, Dark Lord the rise of Darth Vader is an awesome follow up to Stovers Revenge of the Sith Novel .

DarkJedi i don't hate everything Star Wars i still enjoy those laserdisc preservations you did for the original films like the CAV Star Wars and Empire full screen pan and scan version.  One of my faves is your dark/sega special japan collection dvd trilogy.  And i was looking forward to the version you were working on that removed the japanese subtitles.  Too bad you scrapped that.  I also liked the Preservations you and BobaFeta put together like the 1997 special editions.

Your Flash Gordon and Howard the Duck dvds were awesome.

As you can tell i am a big fan of all your preservations.  and Love the HD2DVD projects, Just wish that theatrical Cut of Raiders without the Lowry tinkering had happened.  But you said the dialogue was censored.

AxiaEuxine i have not heard of any extended edits being produced only fan edits that trim some of the cringeworthy dialogue and sillyness in the movie.

The extended prequel editions ADigitalMAn made were very interresting even though you understood just why those scenes remained deleted from the final version of the movie.

If lucas ever releases all the incomplete deleted scenes for the original trilogy fans could try and put those scenes back in, but without finished effects, music or foley work and only on set and on Location audio it would be hard to make anything of them.  The best place for such scenes would be in a Jambe Davdar style documentary on the making of the films.

That is even if they can locate them.  The jabba scene was only found as a 16mm dupe of the 35mm original negative and was used on the special edition in 1997.  The original 35mm was lost so they had to make do with an inferior dirty 16mm that was printed from the original for the documentary from star wars to jedi.

Who knows if the Sandstorm sequence in Return of the Jedi that was deleted if it survives in the LFL arhcives, the lightsaber building scene was apparently never shot or only partially shot and never finished and no footage survives.  But the music score for the scene does exist.

Info Wanted: Is anyone working on The Clone Wars 2008 - with extended material added?
Time

The gout happened to me.  Non anamorphic Transfers in 2006 from a laserdisc master.

I am angry that the original films were released as a bonus disc from a source that would have been adequate in 1993 in the 20th century and not 2006 in the 2lst century.

Until Lucas gets his shit together and puts out a proper release i am done supporting him, funnily enough i used to be the one of the guys biggest fans and apologists until the slap in the face to original trilogy fans that was the gout.  Up until they i could abide the special editions as a neat Alernate cut but not as a replacement and enjoy the prequels even though they were inferior to the originals.

I payed to see the special editions in the theater.  I saw Star Wars A New Hope only once because it was consistantly sold out.  I saw Empire and Jedi twice as i can remember.  Also i saw Return of the Jedi original re-release in 1985.  I had only seen empire strikes back and Star Wars on home video, i was not old enough to see them in theaters.  I just turned 30 and was born in 1978.

I saw Phantom Menace once in theaters, Attack of the Clones twice and Revenge of the Sith twice.

I skipped seeing Clone Wars 2008, by the time i had a chance to see it was already gone from my Local theater.  Indiana Jones IV i also paid to see once and i left the theater feeling empty and betrayed.   That was the single biggest letdown in movies for me ever.  That being said there was much too be enjoyed in that movie, but it was flawed.

I have all the star wars films on dvd except 2008 Clone Wars.  I even have the phantom menace on Laserdisc, i have all the soundtracks except the clone wars.  I have every Indy movie and score except crystal skull.

I find the botched colors on the 2004 cut to be an insult as is the fucked up sound mix.  The 1997 special edition had a spectacular picture quality in theaters and the sound was just phenomenal.  I disliked the greedo shooting first thing, but i do like the jabba scene especially in the 2004 and the space ships at the end battle was an improvement.  I had almost no problems with Empire and Jedi special editions in 1997 sure i liked the old lapti nek and yub nub as a kid but the films essentially were still the same.  In 2004 it was the added emperor scene in empire strikes back and new dialogue i hated, Morrison as Boba voice over, and Hayden replacing Sabastian Shaw in Return of the Jedi ghost scene. And i especially hated the Jar Jar "weesa free" part.  I had no problem with them including a shot of naboo, or the jedi temple in the background,  but Jar Jar should have met his end by being killed by Darth Vaders red saber.

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

That untrue unfortunetely HaydenisnotVAder As Lucas has Included The clone Wars 3D cartoon in the G-canon (george lucas canon) , as well as the force unleashed game.  and the upcoming tv show.

The genddy series that was better than the third one is not considered canon since Lucas gave him creative control and now he has control over the new one.  The guy he hired this time is a huge star wars nerd, so he finds it hard to criticize George.  It is as if George is a god and this guy is his diciple, lol.  Dave Filoni rymes with baloney.

It is too bad Airbender was a decent show, but of course Lucas did not have final say over that show.  Everything he has had his hands in in recent years is a dissaster.  From the special editions, prequels, to 2008 clone wars movie and Indiana Jones IV and Force unleashed all complete garbage.

He got his hands over the Eu and ruined both the NJO and the Legacy novel series.  This guy destroys not only his work but the work of others.  But of course it does not matter if Timothy Zahn wrote better Star Wars than George Lucas since as a work for hire author Lucas ends up owning the created characters and can shit all over them as he desires.

Get this TFN posted a link to an interview where Tim Zahn was mad that Lucas had Mara Killed off, but he of course used polite talk cause he has to work in the industry.  But i could see just how pissed he was.

When they killed my favorite expanded universe character i boycotted all the novels from there on out, up until then form the bantam era onward i had bought every book featuring Luke's adventures.  When it became clear they were going to rehash the poorly planned and executed prequels i wanted my money back.

The Legacy comics are an interesting take on the Star Wars universe, but could just as easily been generic sci fi since they have almost zero resemblance to the original movies.  In fact the anti heroes and angst emo nonsense must be taken from the prequel movies. Cade looks like some rock and roll reject band member and is a druggie.  Luke Skywalkers descendant is adicted to death sticks, sits around and broods and is a overal douchebag. He's more like Hayden Anakin than Luke, it would be like if the three prequels were about crack addled ani who becomes a sith to get his fix.

When did the prequels officially suck?
Time

The prequels were always going to suck the writing was already on the wall in 1997 with the special editions.  The prequels would be made to fit the special editions and not the original trilogy as originally released.

As a concept they suck, they are tonally and thematically different.  Lack real heroes to root for, or any magic of any kind.  They also lack emotion and when you left the theater you did not feel as though you were  taking part in viewing something special or being uplifted like 1977's Star Wars.

Lucas should have moved ahead with the story after Return of the Jedi.  Still now that Star Wars has become a shit kiddy series and is basically an advertisement for a product line, and become souless and sterile and safe no longer a daring series breaking new ground.

I want nothing to do with it.

I can imagine the future adeventures of Luke and company after Return of The Jedi.  I can think of the idea of Lukes father as portrayed excellently in the oot and forget the Hayden/Vader obmination that Derailed the real star wars saga and story.

Interesting Dave Prowse interview at Rebelscum
Time

You do know that is a TFN podcast right?

I refuse to Listen to their Podcasts since they have Jar Jar audio clips and Jedi Rocks song in their program.

They are also a bunch of Lucas Kool Aid drinking ass kissers, who love the special editions and the prequels, and everything that has been done to the EU.

They never talk about the need for the oot to be restored in their podcasts, or the significance of the original films.  In short they are not for the cause and are a part of the problem preventing those movies getting a proper release on DVD since they help George Lucas keep them buried.

Saga fans they call themselves, lol.  The six film tradgedy of Darth Vader, makes me want to puke.

When are they going to learn to stop giving Lucas undeserved worship and attention.  Stop going to those silly celebrations and buying his crappy merchandise and action figures.

Make the man richer who has every intention of the original films being lost forever.  The legacy of the star wars trilogy is now a 1993 non anamorphic laserdisc transfer bonus disc.

The Puggo Edition - webpage and screenshots (Super 8 transfers - Released)
Time

Was watching this again for like the fifth time or something and i noticed the red shift.

I wonder do all the Ken Films reels have red shift.  Are they all on fading stock what was the filmstock Eastman pre LPP?

I know Puggo tried his best to correct the red shift and color correct the films but once the color is gone from a print it is gone for good.

I have an empire strikes back trailer that is on Eastman stock and it retains only 60% of its original color, has not succumbed to vinegar syndrome yet but is pinking.

Trailers that are on LPP stock for any of the original Star Wars films usually go for hundreds of dollars as the mass produced non LPP variety are mostly what you find.

Is the HD version for The Phantom Menace any better than the official DVD does it still have edge enhancement and bad dvnr?

IS it the theatrical version?

Or is the best quality for that version the DVB standard def from pal land or as it has been called the TB release.

Just wondering since the Phantom Menace was shot on 35mm motion picture film at a 2:35:1 anamorphic cinemascope aspect ratio.  There should be lots of fine detail and film grain.

The transfer of Episode 1 Theoretically should yield four times the resolution of The crappy HDCam shit they did on Episodes II and III.

I'm surprised Nobody has used the 14 gig version and recut it to the theatrical and rip the ac3 from the japanese laserdisc for the theatrical audio.  The dolby digital EX track.

Hell even the standard 2 channel stereo mix on that disc blows the dvd's mix out of the water, as it is uncompressed PCM and the original mix and superior to the home audio mix they cooked up for the dvd release.

Lucas never gives the fans what they want if he did the 1997 versions of the trilogy would be on dvd with the 6 track dts mix heard in theaters.

I have read him  talking about the superior Magnetic soundtrack release on the 1977 version of Star Wars.  The 70mm 6 track.  This was in the future of the Movies book by Siskel and Ebert.  Yet that is not on dvd, makes me so irrated and furious.  Imagine if we got the originals restored from the O-neg used for the 70mm versions and the 6 track mag tracks for all three films.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

In Shatner's defense i'll argue that he is being nice to JJ in his own best interest.  Because if Kirk is to Return it will be in the sequel and Shatner wants JJ to have him in the sequel if offered a real part and not a cameo as older Kirk.

The only thing is nero's fucking with the timeline would have to explain why James Kirk did not dissapear from the enterprise B only to come out of the nexus to aid picard and die on veridian III.

Because Trek 2009 is Spock Centric William Shatner is betting on the Next one focusing on Kirk.  I would guess though Chris Pine will Play Kirk in the sequel and JJ will play at being very coy about why not having Shatner in the movie instead of telling him your too fucking old.

Maybe Shatners ego got in the way of him having a part in this film?

It being pretty much on the record from everyone else but Shatner the reason why Trek V was a dissaster was his ego.

You have to agree the old cast is too OLd to reprise their roles and get another original series picture.  It is about 15-20 years too late for that.  for a real star trek VII they would have to have started pre production in 1991, with the film to come out in 1993 or 1994.  This is 2008 those actors are now old enough to be grandfathers and grandmothers if not great grandfathers and great grandmothers.

The ashes of Eden would have made a great star trek VII, or the Return would have made a great star trek VIII after Generations.  But its time to let it go.  The closest thing you will ever get to another big screen adventure is the graphic novel for ashes of eden, or the actors cameos in starfleet academy.

You will have to be Happy with the cameo roles they had in the Star Trek next generation universe.  Kelley in Encounter at Farpoint parts 1 and 2, Nimoy in Unification Parts 1 and 2, and Doohan in Relics.  As well as Shatner, Doohan and Koenig in Generations. Also George Takei got to play Sulu on Deep Space nine.

This is not including the Cowley fanfilms Starring Koenig or Takei, or the fanfilm by the Tim Russ that Also had Koenig, and Nichelle Nichols.

This also does not include Shatner reprising his role for Kirk in the Books on tape based on his kirk novels, or the other actors doing books on tape.  It also does not include the videogames Like Legacy.

Too bad the Last time Shatner will Play Kirk was in the Legacy game.  Kind of like How Sean Connerys last outing as James Bond was for the From Russia with Love game or Pierce Brosnans in Everything or Nothing.

The last time Mark Hamill played Luke Skywalker was doing the voice for a television commercial for Vector Prime.  I think they also Asked him to voice the first rogue squadron game, and jedi academy but he turned them down and they used pre recorded lines from the movies or hired a different actor.  Him voicing the character was not out of the realm of possibility as he did voice over work on Lucasrts full throttle.  But he wanted nothing to do with the character of Luke or Star Wars.  I think he was even asked to write some star wars comics by dark horse at one point and said he was not interested.

Being a voice over for animation i am very surprised he has not done any voice work on the new clone wars cartoon, He could voice any character as a cameo.

Similarly Paramount could do another Trek animated series and ask the actors to voice their characters.

questions about the 1981 Star Wars reissue
Time

Northpoint Theater was also where American Graffiti was previewed and they filled the theater with teens who loved the Movie.  After that Hit screening Ned Tannen blew a gasket and told George and Francis "You boys really let me down".  According to both Skywalking, and Empire of Dreams.

The Northpoint theater was in San Francisco.  The Old American Zoptrope was run out of San Francisco, and there was a whole bohemian/hippie culture there, and an avant garde scene for movies.

I'm sure getting a screening at the Northpoint was better than say in LA where critics would tear you to pieces.

Funnily enough they could not even get Graumans Chinese Theater to show the film at first, but some other film they wanted to show was delayed or something so they showed star wars grudgingly and would have pulled it in a week or two if it did'nt play well.

I cannot remember the reason why But Graumans did not get the Premiere of Revenge of the Sith.  Almost every Star Wars film had its US premiere there.

Any test screening should conform Generally to the shooting script.  The Jabba scene and biggs scenes were in the shooting script and John Jympson rough cut but not in any near finished version of the movie and certainly not the one shown at northpoint.

The Luke missing with his grappling hook scene i don't even remember even being in the Shooting Script though i could be wrong, not sure.  I know there was a version of the script where Luke misses on his first go on the death star trench and then hits the reactor shaft on the second try.

This guy Marsters is gonna be in the Dragonball movie, lol.  He can be in a joke of a movie like that playing a character who has bat nipples and try to make up some story about a supposed rough cut of star wars no one else saw.

He may have been one of the many considered for Star Wars Episode II but there is no way he would have been considered for episode one as they did screentest 3 finalists who were all 8 or 9 years old.

Joshua Jackson was also considered for Anakin in episode II according to him anyway.  Leonardo Dicaprio Despite what Leo fans believe or not was never even considered because Lucas usually casts unknowns for the leads in his movies.  I not sure but i think it was Sophia Coppola George's GodDaughter who lobbied for Christensen as Anakin.  He nailed the performance in his screentest but then when he was onscreen he became all wooden, Georges fault perhaps .  I think robin Gurland was the one who did the test with him and natalie originally.  Lucas is not a character director and he does nothing to help them find their performance.  Well we can fix it all in post in the computer he thinks, lol.

Fred Roos is the guy who cast the original star wars, as well as American Graffiti.

Maybe it sounds too much like sg-1 to you Johnny because it is the same composer Kevin Kiner.

That is despite the fact that his music on Sg-1 and Wing Commander was largely derivative of David Arnold's work. And much of Arnolds work is derivative of Both Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams.

He cannot even get the Main Theme by John Williams right.  That is beyond a joke as even my Old High School band could have done it better justice than him.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Besides JJ cannot kill Star Trek.  Star Trek already died with Enterprise and Nemesis and has only been kept alive by the fans who go to the conventions and read the novels.

A band put out an album called "its dead jim".  JJ is trying to Rebirth Trek at least as a viable film series again.

So Trek has died many deaths before and risen from the Ashes like the phoenix of mythology.

Star Trek lives in the hearts and minds of millions of people.  It won't die if this film is sucessful or if it bombs only as far as the suits pulling the purse strings at the studio are concerned.  Star Trek like Star Wars is a part of American mythology and the names of its Characters are household names.  Even people who have never seen star trek have probably heard the line beam me up scotty, or know who kirk is or spock is.

Star Wars and Star Trek are incredibly seperated franchises one is science Fiction and the other space opera.

One is set in our own imagined future and another a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Still i like both, not equally mind you Trek tos was my dads franchise.  I like Star Wars better.   I used to like Next Generation better, until i liked films 1-6 and watched the re-runs.  I Still loved the original series as a kid i just thought the effects were cheesy after seeing Star Wars, though the effects on the slow and boring motion picture blew me away.  Spocks death in Trek II as a child nearly brought me to tears, yeah i was one of those people who cried when Optimus Prime died in the Transformers movie too.

The stealing of the enterprise in part 3 was awesome.  It still gives me chills every time i watch it.

I don't even care that that scene may have been stolen from a Space Battleship Yamato film, or it could be a co-incidance as i believe it to be.  Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato was made before star trek III.

People get to the point where they are so confortable with the fictional characters in Star Trek or Star Wars, that they almost become their friends in adventure.  Like the screen heroes of old.  When kids wanted to be Like Stewart Granger, Eroll Flynn, Sinbad, or Zorro.  The viewer or the reader pretty much goes on the journey the hero does, at least in a sucessful film or novel.

First you need a character you are sympathetic to, an everyman Like Luke Skywalker, or Frodo Baggins.

Lucas failed with Anakin Skywalker as nobody cared for his journey or felt sympathetic to him as a work of fiction.  It was like Trying to make the Devil a Sympathetic character which Milton could do in Paradise Lost but Lucas is no Milton, lol.

James Kirk as originally created and as played by Shatner was not an everyman.  He was the top of his class, and a pile of books with legs.  Shatner's inspiration was Alexander the great i believe as a stageplay he was in.  The JJ kirk is either a new creation or an composite of the character created by Roddenberry, added to by Nick Meyer etc.

Hopefully they don't steal the Enterprise as cadets in this movie i Seriously laughed out loud when shatner did that in his novel the academy.  Still that book had Kirk steal a federation vehicle and Spock was at a brothel to investigate art theft, lol. Not too much a surprise since Shatner's Young Kirk has already been done under the Name of Jim Endicott, and they are almost the same character.

I think JJ is a talented guy but he has a lot to prove as this is only his second film he is directing, He still has to overcome those who say he is only a tv director.  This being his sophmore effort, since he declined to direct cloverfield because he needed the time to work on this movie.   MI3 was quite good if it was a tv episode it kind of even reminded me of the old 60's show in that light.  But as a movie the scale was not big enough or broad enough an idea or execution.  After MI2 which was a huge expensive blockbuster.  I wonder if JJ understands that movies are supposed to have a large epic scale.

The one thing MI3 did that the first 2 films did not do was focus on the characters not just on the visual effects and stunts.

Still the guys who wrote this New Trek wrote Bay's Transformers also and that had bad jokes and cringeworthy dialogue lots of sexual innuendo and explosions.  The Trailer for trek gives me the Transformers feeling. and as that movie made tons of money that seems to be the direction they are aiming for.

The '04 OT on Spike TV
Time

Don't forget he did not just add cgi to star wars trilogy and destroy the originals.  He has also ruined THX 1138 with no original being even on dvd,  he added cgi to the opening of graffiti.

He even added cgi to the broadcast of Raiders of the Lost Ark.  True in American Graffiti and Raiders it is a single shot replaced, but the tinkering was neither wanted or needed.

Never mind the Digital scrubbing or dvnr Lucas has done to the DVD versions to remove the film grain to Make the movies look like they were shot on HD video and not film.  Also recolor grading the films.

It is so stupid that the only non butchered versions exist on Laserdisc and are non anamorphic.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

We can only hope the finished movie is not as bad as the trailer.

If Abrams is really destroying Star Trek as you say Hunter6 then William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy are helping him as is Jonathan Frakes.

Even that Phase II/ New Voyages fanfilm guy is defending him.

There is still not a finished cut of the movie the version that the nimoys watched had almost no finished effects and no music.  If the sillyness of the acting and dialogue can be fixed editorially and the music adds depth and emotion to the film it could be good.  I doubt JJ this late in the project is going to have new lines of dialogue written and acted by the actors, or redesign the enterprise bridge and exterior to please fans of either the tv show or old film franchise.

There is still little info out there were there any shots done with Models or Miniatures, or was the movie shot on film or HDcam.  I am sick of people calling a project shot on video a film as no film was used to shoot the fucking thing.

Life Day is Coming
Time

Well i would lile a life day for the oot, you know a proper restoration.  But since star wars death day came in 1996 when Lucas cut up the original negatives it is highly doubtful.

You should be thankful it is the thought that counts, and also Thankful it was not a copy of more american graffiti, howard the duck or the holiday special on dvd, or Indiana Jones IV.  There are more bad Lucas projects than clone wars.  I'll make the assumption you have the special editions and the prequels on dvd, what could be worse than that?

The worst bunch of star wars dvds i ever bought were the gout, which i call the official Lucasfilm bootleg version since the quality is nigh unwatchable and horrendous.

Yeah i have the ultimate set and an unfixed version so i don't have the 2.0 original mix on Superman the movie only a 2.0 of mixdown of the new 5.1 and of course the 5.1,lol.

The guy i bought the set from on ebay never told me it was the non fixed boxedset.

I never did the disc send away thingy because i found it a hassle and am too lazy or wahtever.  Unaway i read somewhere cannot remember exactly where online that the 2.0 stereo theatrical on the dvd was improperly mixed or something like the audio pans are out of wack on the surround steering or something.

The dude who wrote that dvd review suggested getting the laserdisc and ripping the PCM audio and syncing it to the movie.   I would of course have to settle for the us release on laserdisc since i cannot find the japan release.

Clone Wars 2008 Redux - working title - CANCELLED

I saw the clip on Youtube as well and while i thought the voice over was an improvement the music is all wrong, and even though Ziro now no longer sounds gay he still looks gay.

I mean there is no way you can make him a green looking hutt that is older than Jabba and a scarred killer and thug while he is all purple and looks like he has make up on.

Are you going to redub the roger roger robot voices i find those extermely annoying.

And watching the tv show is hlarious as every week Grievous  is incompetant and loses more  ships and droids and escapes like a coward.  And he is supposed to be this terrifying Jedi Killer.  No wonder Anakin and Obi Wan did not take him seriously in Revenge of the Sith he is a walking talking tin heep joke.

Too bad the extended tv cut of Superman only exists as a 16mm pan and scan flat print.

I once saw the abc cut up on ebay it went for hundreds of dollars and the print was fairly faded.

I did not bid on the print since it was pan and scan and i would have had no way to get it transfered since it is a copywritten motion picture film.

The guy who bought it if he has a projector must be pretty pleased with his find.

Still even a faded 16mm dupe tv station print is better than a vhs tape recording of 1980s vintage.

Too bad Mitch does not have access to one.

Is saw some of the cleaned up Alex S footage on Capedwonder.

Looks almost like when it first aired on tv.  I wonder if you can ever really get dvd quality from this source?

I myself am still looking for a recording of the supergirl broadcast with those scenes found in no other version of the film.

Years ago i bought my Sister the limited anchor bay 2 disc release.  Which had the international version and directors cut.  Though i would have liked to have given her the tv cut and the theatrical us version as well they are not on dvd.

I find it funny the first time i saw superman was the extended tv cut, it was the same with dune and star trek II.  The dune cut made its way to dvd officially but Wrath of Khan and Superman tv cuts are still only fan preservations.

I was dissapointed when i first saw the extended donner cut on tcm thinking it was a cleaned up version of the salkind international tv cut or kcop/abc version and then i realised the music was different the sound effects were different and it was missing a ton of material.

Too this day this is the only cut available on Blu Ray.  As I believe Richard Donner has come to see this as his finished cut similar to how Robert Wise viewed his own star trek dvd cut.

I don't know why they refused to restore the theatrical sound mix as it was released in six track mag and would have been awesome on dvd.  Even the stereo dolby mix could have benefitted from going back to the master tapes.  It is really a shame the best sound presentation for Superman the Movie was in 1978.  The best it ever sounded on home video was on the Uncompressed PCM theatrical track on Japan Laserdisc.  Which is nearly impossible to find now.

Unless of course you could get your hands on theatrical 35mm film prints and get someone to transfer the audio, lol.  If i remember correctly Donner said the original mix elements were in too poor shape to be reused on the newly created mix.  He obviously meant the original seperate discrete elements and not the master tape derived from them.  Yeah that would have meant a generation loss but better than not having the audio mix people loved in 1978.

Even the super8mm digest version need to be preserved on dvd.  I wonder what scenes are featured in the cutdowns?

I wish i was rich and could somehow Get a hold of a three strip dye technicolor print of Superman with the Six track mag, that and star wars, lol.

I just read Caprica got Picked up by the Sci Fi channel.

Not sure if this is true or not.

If it is a test of a few episodes or if they picked up the whole first season.

Supposedly Season 1 and 2 are being remastered for Blu Ray.  I am not sure if they are even out yet.

I do know the restoration on the classic galactica was an utter dissaster and dissapointment.  After claiming that universal spared no expense in restoring and transfering the original negatives the dvds were almost vhs quality and not dvd enhanced standard.

I bought the 90 dollar boxet and was pretty fracking mad when the quality was that low.  Still i liked the uncut episodes and deleted scenes.

A lot of the episodes had a nostalgia factor for me.  You could tell that even though Dyktras effects by Apogee where expensive at the time that they were rushed and are cheap looking by todays standards.  A lot of the show is very dirty looking like it was shot on 16mm and not 35mm.  I almost think they only went back to the earlierist film prints they had and transfered them for the dvd as if that is the shape the oneg was in someone should clearly be fired.

Because only a multi million dollar restoration can save the way the show looks and a cult classic like this show is not going to get that care and money lavished on it when they can spend all that dough on the current incarnation.

The live action scenes looked almost newly shot on the dvd it was the shots with the composite opticals that were several generations lower in quality and something should have been done to make it right for the dvd.

If they saved those old effects they could have recombine them digitally thereby skipping the generation loss they had in the 1980's with the optical printers.

Too bad almost no film studio or tv studio saves those shots even CBS had to recreate there stock fx on the remaster of star trek.  Only Lucas appears to have saved his opticals.

Yet ANOTHER DVD boxed set...*sigh*
Time

Well Lucas won't even spend the Money to get a new transfer done of Episode 1 it is like re-released for the fifth time in its extended dvd cut with the bad edge enhancement and dvnr.

Still no true theatrical version or theatrical audio mix.  Only found on the japan laserdisc.

Why be surprised though the original trilogy that made him rich beyond the dreams of avarice got released in 2006 as non anamorphic bonus discs from a laserdisc master.

Even the 2004 and the prequels dvds have suffered from lack of quality control.  None of the theatical versions on the prequels and new home audio sound mixes and editing.  The 2004 special edition trilogy cut has bad audio on a new hope, unfixed lightsabers and incorrect ruined colors.

These were not deliberate creative decisions these were Lazy releases with zero quality checking or control.  and Like 5 re-releases later the same flaws have not been corrected.  Something tells me the blu ray release when it gets released by slow poke lucas in 2014 when Blu Ray is ending its life cycle it will still have these issues glaringly unfixed.  But it will probably have another sound mix in 7.1 and even more stupid cgi.  But the matte lines around the tie fighters and the ruined Lowry botch job still unfixed.
