Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Is it just me or is Simon Pegg the Jar Jar of JJ Trek.  " I like this ship it is exciting".  Awful.  The casting person should be fired the only casting they did right was Nimoy.

The guy who designed the new Enterpise should be fired the Design is just ugly looking.

They have that dude from Harold and Kumas as Sulu.  Sylar as the Young Spock and a Dude who looks like he would be on the cover of teen beat a magazine my sister used to read as young kirk.  He also looks  too Young to be Kirk.

90210 Trek. Smallville Trek. OC Trek you get the picture.  the bridge looks like the Apple people called it the ibridge.  ipod-erprise.lol

I wish they skipped the Academy Days and instead filled in the Missing Chapters of the First Five Year Mission, or the Period that Lead up to the Motion picture the second five year mision.  They could have gone retro Like the movies 1-6 and it would have been cool.  I would love to see the enterprise from the Undiscovered Country on Screen again.  Too bad they sold it at auction the dumbasses decided to go cgi.

Believe it or not i would Prefer a Manny Coto Produced Enterprise Movie over this or even a fifth season of that show.  JJ wrong person for Star Trek.  Going to be the second time they picked the wrong guy.  Last time was on Nemesis some Stuart Baird guy who should have been directing something like James Bond and not Star Trek.

I don't get how a guy who did MI3 a spy movie is supposedly the go to person for a sci fi movie.  Unless they are going the route of stupid action movie dressed up as sci fi.  If we have enough naked chicks, cgi and explosions nobody will notice.lol

Nicholas Meyer did not seem like the right choice either but he understood good drama and the classics of Literature.  He understood characters and the human element in the story.

JJ never stays with any project.  He has much more experience as a producer than a director or story writer.  He supervised most of Alias, Lost etc.  He very much is the George Lucas type who likes to have other people direct or write his ideas for him.  I would be willing to bet if this picture is sucessfull he will hand the next movie to a hand picked director he chooses like he did with Cloverfield.

I would guess the new movie is a lead in to a five picture series or more.  If not that much it will be a trilogy like the new batman is supposed to be.  Paramount also wants to Bring Star Trek back to tv as a live action series and also possibly an animated one.  But this film has to be sucessful for them to even have a chance of happening.

Even if the tos fans hate this movie they pretty much have to embrace it.  Bring their friends and family to see it multiple times.  It is the only way new trek will happen.  If this thing Bombs Paramount would be well within its rights to never spend a dime on the series again.

Without resorting to Drinking the Lucas kool aid how can you support Kiner.  He Butchered the Opening Theme for Star Wars.  Even Mcneely wisely avoided that.

Also Comparing Shadows of the Empire to the prequels is a joke.  Xizor may have been a Joke of A villain But at least Shadows had Luke Skywalker instead of Manakin Skystalker, Played by Wooden Actor of the Ages Hayden.

The Clone Wars is just an extension of the prequels and more of what went wrong with Star Wars while the real Star Wars remains buried and only available as laughable non anamorphic bonus discs.

I still argue that it is Laughable to compare a man of Williams Talents to Kiner.  Williams gets compared  to Wagner, Bach, and Mozart, Tchaikovsky etc.  Who is this Kiner dude seriously, lol.

I will quote what i said earlier and say again.

"There is no contest John Williams is known as one of the greatest composers, if not greatest composer of the 20th century.  Kiner is some upstart who does not even deserve Williams table crumbs."

Lord of the Rings on Blu Ray

Aesthetically i cannot abide cgi and HD Video.  HD video looks to clean and plastic and the Colors are all too computer like, almost like watching a videogame.  CGI looks all fake and unrealistic and is still not even a replacement for traditional animation, much less For traditional effects with Models that Look real because they are a phsyical reality and are not 1's and 0's in a computer.

To me the only reason hollywood has adopted these technologies is the same as the Independants for cost saving methods, ease of use, and quick editing and turnaround of footage.  You can have now see what you actually are getting on Video in realtime without having to wait for the rushes to come back from the Lab.

Not only that but because the format is already digital it already conforms to the standard for digital editing and does not need to be scanned in and then manipulated digitally.  Like George Lucas has said you can skip a step and save money and time.

He wanted to shoot Episode one on HD Cams but the technology was just not where it needed to be yet.  He was satfisfied by the Time Episode II came around to use it.

It is funny that the Avid digital editing system is a throwback to Lucas developed Editdroid.  Lucas was the one who pioneered the Idea of digital editing.  One of the First people to cut on video was a  friend of his Francis Ford Copola .  He experimented with it but did not do the final cut on it.  I believe the rough cut for Apocalypse Now was done on video that was not even broadcast quality.

Info: FanEdit.org is GONE!!!!
Time

I want to make it clear i was not attacking faneditors at all.  There are some fineedits and editors out there.  I am more of a preservation fan than a fan of fan edits except in certain cases where the film is actually improved or an interesting alternate take is produced on the film or its characters.

I hope the community weathers this storm and comes out okay.

I was in no way attacking Boon or the members of ot.com or fanedit.org just stating how this legal gray area in the past has become such a heated issue.

Almost reminds me of fansubbing which is a niche fandom in animation and anime.  People do it for the love of the genre, and also they get a good learning experience out of it.  Heck even faneditors might come to respect the art of editing that the pros do.  At least the ones who are not hacks.

Still i find it funny the films of these directors and moviemakers are still available it is not as if they are replaced by a fan edit.  Unlike say when George Lucas did his own fanedits of the star wars trilogy and buried the originals.  But it is okay for him to butcher them because thy are his intellectual property.

Using someone's intellectual property these days without paying or getting permission has become the same as Stealing a physical object.  It would be like back in the day kids downloaded mps without paying and they said it was not the same as stealing a cd from a store.  I guess morally you could make an arguement they are the same without paying the artist their fee for use.  Still do these poor kids who eventual get out of school and get jobs buy cds and dvds and eventually the studios make a profit out of it?

How many people who use bitorrent just sample an artists works and if they like it buy it?

Does anyone know what edit was the most objectionable to the MPAA ot was it the whole of fanedit.org site?

I guess the one edit that has been so popular and might have just pissed someone off at Lucasfilm maybe Adywan's edit.  I can see George saying "how dare some fan actually make a better special edition than i did".

questions about the 1981 Star Wars reissue
Time

The fourth Mix did not come about til 1985 and not 1981.  It was a digital mix and i believe the tractor beam line by c-3p0 was added back in.  The remix was stereo not mono.  Only a single mono mix was ever made for star wars and would have been heard in 77-78 during its original run.

IMDB is not the best source always for infromation as like wiki they can have random people add info that is not fact checked.

IMDB own sources are often accurate to a certain degree.  I have found them to sometimes have stated inaccuracies about a film just like any information database is subject to human error.

Not sure if the 1985 mix has close the blast doors.  I know the blast it wedge is only in the mono mix and blast it biggs is in every other version.

I know the Tractor beam Line was left out of the 1993 Definitive Collection MIX, and the close the blast doors open the blast doors was restored in the 1997 special edition mix.

Star Wars had 3 mixes in 1977.  one in 1985, another in 1993.  another in 1997 and 2004.   Seven sound mixes begins to get a little rediculous. Besides the fact that only takes into account the ones in english.  I have no idea how many foreign dubs have been made for star wars since 1977.

The least complete mix in 77 was the six track.  the Most complete was the mono mix and was at the time considered the definitive mix.

They still have images on the site that they don't own the copyrights to.

You can have your site pulled for as little as that.  Never mind rapidshare, or torrent links, or newsgroups.

Under the laws of copywritten motion pictures artists have the right to protect their works from being tampered with or altered, or being used in any way without their express consent.

The law is on their side not the faneditors.  since the rules of the game have changed not making money off of said illegal activities is no longer an excuse to avoid prosecution.

Anyone want to guess when the isp for fanedit.org pulls the site because of infingement?

So by definition any site on the web using content that they don't own is considered infringement.

That includes this site and TFN.  For some reason though Lucasfilm stopped going after the faneditors and people using their images on sites.  That does not mean other companies will be as nice.

Companies like Warners, DC, Marvel, sony and mgm, lionsgate etc.

Lucasfilm lawyers only ceased what they were doing when Fans cried foul of their tactics and they had to consider their bottom line being effected by Alienating buyers of their star wars brand of products.

These are not facts just hearsay from the internet.

Rank the Star Wars films
Time

to me star wars ranked is:

1. Empire Strikes Back 1980

2. Star Wars 1977

3. Return of the Jedi 1983

To me the special editions and prequels are not real star wars.  Are you guys still drinking the Lucas kool aid?  Lol   Ever since 1997 and 1999 Lucas stopped being a genius or good moviemaker in my opinion.

I will always  give endless respect for the originals and continue to wonder where he lost his way.

The only good film he made after his divorce was The Last Crusade and that is more because of Spielberg than Lucas.  Willow was decent, i liked it a lot as a kid despite being a bad knockoff of star wars and tolkien.

I rank Indiana Jones:

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark

2.  The Last Crusade

3. The Temple of Doom

4. Kingdom of the Crystal Numbskulls

like the prequels i put seperate from the real star wars.

1.Revenge of the Shit

2. The Phantom Plot movie

3. Attack of the Wooden Romance

You should see his listing on imdb completely unremarkable in comparison to John Williams.  3 sg-1 episodes to his credit an unamed amount of superboy episodes in 1988, star trek enterprise unnamed amount of episodes, and the Wing Commander movie are the only things remotely sci fi.

Oh wow he did the stewart little cgi movie, lol.

Geez even when Williams was just a tv guy he produced better stuff like lost in space.  As campy and rediculous as that show was.

Williams and Goldsmith both were in the 20th Century Fox band under Aflfred Newman who of course wrote the fox fanfare with Cinemascope extension that became the legendary opening to star wars.

Michael Giacchino is the guy doing the new trek.  Looking him up even he is better than Kevin Kiner.  I will look at his imdb, and lol.

So okay he did MI3, Lost, and Alias.  and Now fringe and star trek hmm, he beats Kiner to a bloody pulp.

Info Wanted: Is the RAIDERS soundtrack CD OOP?
Time

Well doing a boxset and not issueing them seperately as 2 disc sets pisses me off.

Those who already have Crystal Skull will end up owning it twice, and those who would prefer only the first 3 scores end up with a whole disc wasted on crystal skull that could have been used to fit some missing material from the other scores.  As it is each film gets a single expanded cd release, plus 1 bonus cd in the boxset, 5 discs set.  Which also have space wasted on interviews instead of filling it completely with more music.

Cheap cardboard holders for the disc holders instead of jewel cases.  The booklets supposedly are scarce on info and no one has reported exhaustive Liner notes.

Sounds to me like they threw this release together rather quickly just to make a buck.  Which is sadly in line with Lucas reputation these days.

I personally will have to buy the set to compare the DCC classics release i already have and the concord one.  I still also want the expanded superman release, sadly that is only available in the film score monthly limited set.  I absolutely adore the work Williams did with the LSO.  Too bad only the six star wars films remain consistant from being all LSO scores.  the only Indiana Jones LSO score is Raiders and is therefore the best of the lot.  Temple of doom a fine score in its own right was scored by the Boston Pops, one aspect of the larger BSO.  Some Hollywood Orchestra did Last Crusade and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Originally Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would have had more original music and have been done by the LSO, instead they made a pastiche of raiders and last crusade with a couple of new themes that were unremarkable.  and Lucas cheaped out by Not going to London to have the score done there.   They also elected not to shoot on location worldwide and use mostly cgi.  Also the musical score was the least inspired of the 4 films and so was the movie.  It felt cliched and tired, compeltely phoned in.  Williams had been in semi retirement since 2005.  The last scores he had done were Geisha and Revenge of the Sith.

The question is though could the guy who scored Young Indy have done better than Williams?  His Music was okay on history of the blues but not fantastic.  His best score of course being shadows of the empire.  Of course Joel Mcneely is this mans name.

Info Wanted: Is the RAIDERS soundtrack CD OOP?

I was dissapointed to say the least that the new boxset is not the complete scores.  Many cues are edited, the sequencing is all wrong supposedly and there is a lot of missing material.

Some fan will likely have to take the various official and non official sources to make a defintitive version of the scores.  Someone like goodmusician perhaps?

Anyway i still cannot find any reviews on whether these are new restorations, reviews of the sound quality etc.

By comparsion the liner notes for the RCA release of the star wars trilogy special edition deluxe sets was exhaustive, same for the Liner notes for the film score monthly superman set.

There are a lot of films out there that if they released all the music it would fit 3 cd's so often they only do 1 and if you are lucky a double cd set.

i know the star trek the motion picture score restored expanded release is still missing a lot of alternate takes and cues.

I know wishing for a double or triple disc raiders is wishful thinking on my part.   Still the film with the most missing material in the concord release is temple of doom over twenty minutes is not included.

Even the Ultimate Edition of the Phantom Menace according to goodmusician is imcomplete.  Supposedly the  whole score would take up 3 CD's.

The star wars boxset did not have restored releases of Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi.  supposedly only later on were the original first generation masters discovered.   But the boxset was just a bundling of the previous unfixed releases.

Not only does the oot of star wars the films themselves need to be restored but so don't there soundtracks, there was a lot of material simply replaced or left out on the special edition releases.  Even having the anthology box on top of that still does not give you the whole scores.  Lapti nek film version is still missing.

Hold me like you did by the lake on Naboo... barf

Considering Lucas did not even write the dialogue negative 1 is critcising That is not surprising Vaderisnothayden.  Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz wrote that.  The best dialogue of Empire Strikes Back is Lawrence Kasden.

Lucas had people helping him write the originals when he got to the prequels he pretty much wrote them himself. except for minor rewrites on episode II by Jonathan Hales, and uncredited work by Carrie Fisher on Epsiode 1 being rumored.

Did he write episode III completely by himself?

In his own words Lucas says " I am a terrible writer"  he said he "hated directing".  Yet he directed and wrote the 3 prequels all on his own because he did not want people muddying his vision Like Kershner did on Empire Strikes back as he has implied but never said directly.  He also was not 100% happy with what Marquand gave him on Return of the Jedi.  So he decided to have things his way he would have to have all control.

He also says he only got about 20% of the movie he wanted on Star Wars.  and something like 40% of what he wanted overall with the oot.   with the special editions changes he now says it is closer to 55 or 60% of what he wanted.  and he says being unhindred by technology he got 100% of the original movie he wanted star wars to be with the prequels.

So the so called "compromises" and "limited palette"  he had on the original trilogy was what made the films better.  Because he had to get help from friends and colleagues and look for creative solutions.   Digital editing, creating the perfermance afterwards and not getting it from directing the actors, and cgi gave him wooden performances and allowed him to get lazy with cgi.  Thereby making the prequels suffer as a result.  He shot for keeping things consistant in their mediocrity and succeded.

I mean the MPAA is in the right as far as the letter of the law is concerned.  But i don't see how fanedits hurt their bottom line.

To me hollywoods problem is crappy shit movie making, over budget cgi laden pieces empty of creativity or imagination as far as storytelling is concerned.  Too many killing/sex movies with big explosions and no plot.  Too many comic book adaptations, too many remakes sequels and prequels and reboots.  Not much original material.

The technology of filmaking and special effects have achieved a high point now historically but over time films have gotten more mundane, less creative and less good acting and story telling.  You look back on the real gems and classics from the last hundred years or so and today films are pretty much watchable only once and as dissposable as the music of today is.  Whereas the cgi artists and animators have gotten incredibly good at what they are creating and doing and have achieved a technological leap forward.  Movies can be creative with their music, set design, makeup, and cgi and costume design.  They can be a thing of beauty in terms of craftsmanship and design but overall lacking in humanity or the thrust of the story.

I'm Keeping my fingers crossed that this movie will not be as bad as Indiana Jones IV and ruin the earlier films it is based on.  Funny thing is they have an excuse, or escape if this rapes ( i know extreme fan hyperbole but i just could not resist ) 40 years of trek history as it is a prequel/reboot.

Its like there were enjoyable bits and pieces of Indiana Jones IV and the star wars prequels but overall they were mediocre and did not meet expectations, and as a whole sucked.

The thing is when you are an adult and have a hyper critical mind you can pick things out of pretty good films that you hate or are not perfect.  Suspension of Disbelief is often up to the movie makers, but sometimes it is the audiences fault.  With the prequels it was not so much suspension of disbelief as i am quoting tolkien here "it had to be hung, drawn and quartered"lol.

Lol.  I hope this site is not next but i will not say i am surpised as all torrents of preservations and fanedits are illegal if they are distributed.  The fair use clause would only protect you for your own use.

Besides going back quite a few years they have been trying to strengthen artists rights so their films, music etc are not tampered with.  Funny how this only dissalow fans from tampering but not the copyright owners or artists Like George Lucas who go back and destroy their earlier works, and fans are supposed to be happy with that.

Extended original cut of first film released way back?

I call bullshit on this.  No version with those scenes was ever released.  Because A. The effects are not finished on those scenes.  B.  No Music or foley work or adr exists only the location set dialogue.

People remember things being there that were not there or were from the comic book, novelization, story book, or radio drama.

A small clip of the unfinished scene with Biggs, Red Leader and Luke talking was shown in the making of star wars.  This is the scene before they get in their individual X-wings to go off and attack the death star and red leader remembers Luke's Father a Jedi knight and not Darth Vader.

kevin kerner vs. john williams
Time

There is no contest John Williams is known as one of the greatest composers, if not greatest composer of the 20th century.  Kiner is some upstart who does not even deserve Williams table crumbs.

You would have a harder time comparing John Williams to Jerry Goldsmith, who was equally prolific and has devoted fans for his star trek scores.

Whichever upstart JJ chooses for the new trek film would be a better comparison to Kiner.

Williams did write and score music for television even though he cannot be labaled as a tv composer, he was a movie composer of symphonic orchetstral scores.  The Scale of his works written for the LSO is not even comparable to a small tv hollywood orchestra.  Kiner is a tv composer, and as such writes for a different medium and his scores are tonally different completely.

Kiner's scores For the Clone Wars movie does not work for the movies but works well on the small screen.

I don't think this dude can really grasp the concept of the giant scale of motion picture scoring.  He did the score for Wing Commander.  When he gets films like the original star wars trilogy, the original indiana jones trilogy, E.T., Jaws, Superman under his belt then we can talk.

Oh and when he gets to conduct a real orchestra like the LSO let me know.lol.  I mean he would have had a tough job as is if he had to fill Williams role as Conductor of the Boston Pops.

You also might as well Say who is a Better Indiana Jones composer Joel Mcneely or John Williams.  The other guy did Young Indy and was blasted by fans for not being as good as williams and for being different to copying him.  If you compare Mcneely to Kiner again Mcneely wins, His Shadows of the empire score is worlds better than the 2008 movie score for clone wars.  Plus his quoting of williams themes was much more faithful.

Overall i don't hate Kiner's work, it is just of the saturday morning cartoon variety.  And a lot of its sounds like jungle music which would fit tarzan but not star wars.  The main theme was butchered however for that he will never be forgiven by star wars fanatics.  Still in all fairness his music is not the worst music ever for star wars for that you have to look to the holiday special, and ewok and droids cartoons, and the christmas album.  Also to me nothing could be worse than MECO's electronic disco star wars.  My god that makes my ears want to bleed it is so awful. Some things should remain buried in the 70s and 80s for good reason.

Plus you also have Rap and Heavy metal renditions of the star wars theme which are an abomination.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

It has been reported that JJ Abrams is going to bring fun back to Star Trek.  As it has been a long time since it was fun.

Hopefully he gets the film somewhere between the more cerebral Trek like the Cage and The motion Picture, and the action romps like Star Trek II and First Contact.

I just hope the trailer is a way to put people off and not how the movie actually is.

I have read a run down of 20-40 minutes of footage on a site based off of what abrams is toring with.  And the context of certain things in the trailer make better sense.  I might not like the whole time travel angle and the kinda funny way that is being used to explain away design changes.  But this is a film for 2009 and not a tv show airing in 1969.   The scene with Leonard Nimoy described as being Pivotal to the entire  plot of the film should move fans of tos.  If this movie is a Spock Centric film and not Kirk Centric then that explains William Shatners absense.  The only real question to me is why is not Nimoy directing the movie, he understands the character of spock better than anyone living does.

It it turns out to be just another enjoyable sci fi popcorn flick with eye popping effects and a non existant plot then it will not satisfy longtime fans.  The fact that they claim they are sticking to the human elements of the story and making good drama fit also with action in the picture sounds awesome but can they pull it off?

They have a lot to prove since these guys wrote the awful script for Transformers. Bayformers as it is now called by its haters.  That was a good popcorn flick but raped its source material i hope the same is not done here.

I have a General Question about the Prequels and Wanted to Get Peoples Thoughts ( Prequels consistent with non story cinema verite filmaking?)
Time

I could find no info on the internet so far.

What are peoples thoughts, about the prequels and the idea that they are cinema verite, out of the french new wave auteur theory.

Cinema Verite is often a "tone poem"  or theme piece with images and sound to convey an idea or emotion through the juxtuposition of images rather than following a script or a story.

One of Lucas favorite films at USC was 2187.  From the National Film Board of Canada made by Lipsett.

He loved off the wall movies like Dr Strangelove, and HELP!.  Goddard and Truffeut were the french filmakers who inspired him.

Anybody who sees THX 1138 should also watch Goddard's Alphaville to see where Lucas got his ideas.

Other great directors who were an unfluence on lucas were not nececcarily out of the new wave culture.  Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, John Ford, Alfred Hithcock, Orson Welles, Sergei Eisenstein, Fritz Lang.  Filmakers form all over the world.  Lucas claimed he lived, ate and sleeped film.  Film was his life at USC.

Star Wars in 1977 was original and genius because it distilled down the history of movies in various genres and borrowed from Worldwide mythic themes and archetypes.  The Samurai film, the western, the pirate movie, the swashbuckler, the monster movie.

Inconsistent use of "the force"
Time

Basically force powers in the oot depended on hereditary characteristics and training.  But the force was infinite in its ability to be tapped into.

In the prequels we are told the more Midichlorians a  jedi had the more power and potential they have.  Anakin having a higher midi-chlorian count than yoda.

Therefore the stupidity of the prequels turns the originals into Luke and Leia were effective Leaders and fighters for the rebellion because they were passed Anakins midichlorians, lol.

I have enjoyed every star trek movie up until nemesis.  That movie just does not work for me at all.

Each trek film had a theme or message or dealt with something.  Even nemesis did the only film that seems to be a dumb action flick is first contact.

The worst films Final Frontier, Insurrection, Generations and Nemesis.  I can honestly say those are the worst.

Though Final Frontier and Insurrection feel like star trek.  Generations was a crap way to kill off the kirk character and an awful movie above all.  The same theme of death and aging had been dealt with better in wrath of khan and did not need a rehash in generations or nemesis.  Shit they even revisited it in insurrection.

None of the films seem particularly original in that regard.  Except for II and VI.

Possible Star Wars Holiday Special screening in NYC!

So they are interviewing Skot for the official site interesting.  He is the resident expert here on ot.com for the holiday special.  I also remember his deleted scenes site from back in the day.

If i did an interview with the official site i would consider myself a sellout since the oot is still buried and unrestored.  I will not give Lucas money for his site, magazine, or dvds until he does.

I may have caved on Indiana Jones IV but that is the only exception because i trusted Spielberg to keep lucas in check.

The last Lucas product i bought was the gout in 2006 and the quality is unwatchable even on my small properly calibrated  19 inch crt that is standard definition and 4:3.  Empire and Jedi are barely passable and star wars is just a joke.  The washed out colors, the badly damaged dirty print with dvnr smear.  Natural grain is not the problem as that is part of the image and should be there.  The removal of the grain on the 2004 lowry transfer is just an obomination.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Sorry but i am a fan of films 1-6 and the original series and will not be seeing this awful bastardization.  Its like a teen movie with explosions, half naked chicks and stupid dialog.  Just like Transformers by Bay.

Compare this trailer to the trailer for 1979's motion picture with the beautiful model of the enterprise and voice over by Orson Welles.  That was epic.  This looks like a teen drama dressed up as sci fi.  90210 trek fits it nicely.

The academy years concept that Harve Bennet came up with was similar if not as bad as the jj crap.  Even the romulan wars movie written by the band of brothers scribe would have been better.

OOh look at the bad cgi and overly bright colors ILM at its prequel best.

The real Star Trek original series feel in the novels has also been few and far between.  I think Pocket books purposely neglected the original series so they can sell JJ related crap.  Though they still Have TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise novels well represented.  The only original series stuff is like mirror universe.

I hate these new sequels, reboots and prequels.

Sci Fi and movies were awesome back in the day 1977 had star wars, 1978 had superman and 1979 star trek the motion picture.  1980 Empire Strikes back, and 1982 Wrath of Khan. 1983 Return of the Jedi. 1984 the search for spock.  Back to the future 1985.  The Voyage Home 1986.  Undiscovered Country in 1991.

The new effects are awful the enterprise jumping to warp, and the space battles look like an animated cartoon.  and the writing is amateurish fanfic at best, awful at worst.  The studio throws them hundreds of millions of dollars.  When the last good trek film that was also an action flick and not real trek first contact was made for like 45 million or something.

Yes the fact that there are film prints floating around does not prove it was shot on film.  I never claimed it was.  But a special that supposedly cost a million dollars in 1978 you would think it was shot on film.

Back in the  sixties and seventies stations still used 16mm film prints for broadcast, That is how star trek was originally shown on nbc.

As for the holiday special supposedly the Negatives are lost or destroyed for the nelvana cartoon segment.

I know the Star Wars footage from the lost cut exists on film.  The scene with the little guy running through the legs of the man on stilts and vader and the imperial walking down death star  corridor. The stock footage of the falcon and the star destroyer.

As for the newly shot footage of the wookiees and chewie, Luke, Han and Leia.  Someone must know if it was shot on video.

I know that in the 1980's u-matic was used for video masters.  All of the Carl Macek Robotech was originally on u-matic tapes.  When they went to do the dvds the whole show had to be recut from scratch and the film originals were telecined from Macross and the other shows used.  Recently they had to do the same with Voltron.
