Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

The thing that really worries me is that Kevin Smith said this is a good film.  He said the same thing about the Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith.  Hell aintitcool was gushing all over the three star wars prequels then around the release of the clone wars 2008 turd jumped on the lucas bashing express.

Do you guys trust Kevin Smith the guy who swore on his street cred he would never make a Clerks II?

Hollywood is full of ass kissers and general bullshitting.  Like the friends and collaborators of Lucas who were not honest enough to tell him his ideas sucked for the prequels and indy 4 so the same is true to even any of the classic trek actors trying to remain in Paramount's good graces and not to burn bridges.

They want to keep things open so they can make money too.  Though i think Shatner is deluded if he thinks paramount will ever let him play kirk again.

Even Rod and his mother Majel who sadly passed away embraced JJ's film.  So either it is good or it is shit.  So far from what little i have seen it is shit, and not The Shit as in slang for being cool or awesome.

The film Premieres here In 1 months time around where i live at midnight the night before.

After the prequels and Indy 4,  i am not too sure i want to hand over ten bucks to the cashier in the theaters to see another favorite film series be destroyed before my very eyes in mockery of there once brilliance as movies.

And if your so emotional tied to the characters or series by nostalgia or just like them for whatever reason its like getting punched in  the gut or kicked in the nuts.  Supposedly that is what people felt after seeing Crystal Numbskull.

The sets in ROTJ
Time

Favorite and best are two very different things.  As an adult i realize sitting down and rewatching the films on dvd that empire is about a hundred times better than jedi.

There are many many cringe worthy moments in rotj that i never noticed before now.  It is a very flawed film and far from perfect.  In the same way as rewatching last crusade i realized how inferior it was to raiders.  Still i would take jedi anyday over the prequels, the gout is the only way i watch the trilogy.

The only indiana jones flms i watch are raiders and last crusade.  I sometimes watch doom out of nostalgia but despite a couple parts i like it is thrown out of my viewing list along with crystal skull.  At least i own temple of doom.  Fuck crystal numbskull that is not even on my dvd shelf and i gave away the destroyed 2004 version of the star wars trilogy to my sister in law's nieces.

There are those that think Revenge of the Shit is better than Return of the Jedi.  I still think Jedi is better than the 3 prequels, Mark Hamill is a better actor than Hayden etc.

To me the biggest sin of Jedi is it has Han Solo standing around the whole movie really with nothing to do and no real devlopment to his character from empire.  And Ford looks bored out of his skull.  No pun intended, lol.

It is basically a Luke Skywalker movie.

Like the magazine cinescape article by that Altman guy said Jedi was just a rehash of a new hope just like last crusade was a rehash of raiders.  Basically lucas ran out of ideas years ago.  Crystal Skull is a rehash of raiders and a rehash of a rehash of raiders, lol.

Would the trilogy have been better if it was split into two trilogies as originally intended.   Then you have the sequel trilogy that does not have Luke except a cameo as an old man and the originall prequels being 12 films.  Lucas shortened it down to nine then again six.

The second death Star was a very bad idea and i agree with Kasden on that one.  If the budget was not an issue the duel would have been on the imperial home world in the emporers court on Had Abbadon, coruscant was a 90's EU creation.

Another reason why jedi is the weakest of the three is Lucas was very tired he wanted to tie up all the lose ends in an attempt to save his sanity and his marriage according to some written accounts. He basically took the 4 remaining films and made them into a single one.  Made Leia the sister etc. Had Luke confront the emperor much earlier than originally intended had Lukes training as a jedi shortened.

The prequels being as bad as they are reveal star wars 1977 and the Empire Strikes Back 1980 versions to be much better films.  Whereas the prequels make Return of the Jedi 1983 version a worse film.

The good Anakin in the prequels is never shown.  The good man who turned bad and had to be redeemed in rotj.  It makes the redemption of anakin skywalker meaningless because there was nothing to be redeemed in the first place.  That is why i imagine an alternate prequel story based on the available salient plot points from the original trilogy more in line with the oot and pretend the prequels don't exist.  The prequels ruin the very enjoyment of the original trilogy.

While were on the subject in hindsight i also would have liked a darker more adult Return of the Jedi that pays off Empire Strikes Back in a much larger way.   There is no fanfiction novel or fanedit in existance that does this and it might be a waste of time to try.  Ending the original trilogy with a teddy bear picnic is a little stupid, imho.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

The funny thing is if i went to see wrath of khan on the big screen and they showed this i would feel cheated beyond belief.  I would be willing to pay a lot of money to see Trek II on the big screen.

I would not spend 2 cents to see this contrived piece of dung paramount is putting out.  And when that reviewer compared it transfromers that seals the deal with me i'll be staying home, that movie had some of the most attrociously bad script writing i have ever seen next to lucas at his indiana jones IV and prequel best.

After seeing Lost, Alias, Fringe and MI:III i am convinced orci and kurtzman are the biggest hacks in hollywood at the moment.  Next to David Koepp and Akiva Goldsman that is.

The thing is no matter what i think this movie is going to make tons of money.  Just like the horrible comic prequel sold out in stores.

People are going to see this because it is not star trek even though it is calling itself such.  People that would have stayed away because trek was for geeks and nerds and losers or whatever stereotype is popular at the moment, lol.  What they made is another popcorn munching, cgi blockbuster that looks like a 200 million dollar videogame.  Basically the Trek version of bays transformers.  It will be action packed and sexy and not real science fiction or cerebral roddenberry trek which others hate but i like.  The cage and the motion picture happen to be some of my favorite trek in this way.

They have been making action trek flicks for years.  The last one which had any thought going on in it was Insurrection, well that ones message was incapsulated in an action film trying to be like first contact which was a mistake imho.  Then Nemesis a rehash of star trek II and an action film.  Every film since First contact has pretty much been this way.  The studios want to make money, they care nothing about getting you to think or film as art.

It is unfortunate that a great film like trek II would unseat and destroy the very franchise it saved, by making each film have to be militaristic and an action piece and not about exploration or the final frontier.

Wow i just saw the mtv clip what stupid dialogue the scene was as funny as it was cringe worthy, reminds me of the padme and anakin scenes in the prequels.

He tells Uhura who is a linguist that she has a "talented tongue"  Uhura tells him something like since he is a farmboy from iowa he must have sex with the farm animals and pine quips "not only"  WTF?  This sounds more like a Kevin Smith movie than a star trek movie.

I just knew the guys who gave Sam Witwicky in Transformers the screen name ladiesman, and had bumblebee pissing and Optimus Prime saying "my bad"  like he was from the clueless movie could not get a thing right.  All the bad one liners you could ever think of.  I hope its not American Pie in outerspace or trek 90210, but things are looking pretty grim.  These guys wrote in the comic "get Your ass up here bigboy".  Wow such great writing.  Dude a bunch of drunk fratboys might write like this but these guys are paid screenwriters in hollywood.

Their writing would not pass muster in a high school english class much less a college one.  They get paid millions to write scripts that a room full of monkeys could come up with.  Here lets smear poo on a piece of paper, lol.

This is the so called stellar Script Nimoy was waiting for he came out of retirement to make, yet he turned down generations, just wow.  Unbelievable.  I hope they paid the old chap well enough because this thing is a visual feast but written like a turd.

The sets in ROTJ
Time

I can't believe you guys are thrashing a pretty good film like Return of the Jedi while there are others Lucas films that deserve it far more like the star wars prequels and Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal numbskull.

Sure it is not as good as star wars or empire strikes back, but it is the closing chapter of three films and has to tie up the plot threads and angles from the last film empire strikes back.

As a giddy happy go lucky kids movie that makes you smile and as a swashbuckler it does fine, plus there are the darker moments towards the end.  The film deals with Redemption, and Love.  The need to fight to be free or be enslaved.

Was empire scripted and directed better on all counts.  Still Return of the Jedi is still my favorite film of the trilogy, not from critical appraisal but because i had a heck of a good time seeing it on the screen in 1985.  I cannot be rescued from that nostalgia nor would i want to be. As a kid used to seeing cartoons on tv like Masters of the universe and Transformers return of the jedi was a revelation.  I suddenly wanted to be a jedi like luke skywalker and wield a green bladed lightsaber, lol.

You want to know what i thought of Empire Strikes Back as a kid i thought it was slow and boring, the same with the first half of star wars.  Of course years later i realized how slow Jedi starts out but as a child i was facinated by jabbas palace and all the creatures and muppets.  In fact it was probably the first time i had experienced another world being created right before my eyes on the big screen.

As action adventure swashbuckling films star wars and return of the jedi are heads above the slow and plodding empire strikes back.  They recall the pirate films and errol flynn films of yesteryear as well as the old saturday matinee serials and are just plain fun to watch.  Empire works almost like a stage play which is its strength, i mean you take out the fantastic walker piece at the beginning and the duel and its mainly a character piece.  Which is funny because star trek's empire strikes back is the Wrath of Khan.  Though not nearly as good.

When they were originally released jedi made more than empire, and lucas was proven right to go more in a kid friendly direction in the future to make more money.  I think empire is as much for kids as it is for adults, the film does not talk down to children.  Reminds me of the uncut and uncensored grimm's fairy tales in that way.

I also realize that as much as i like Jedi it was the beginning of the end, but ewoks as annoying as they are were worlds away from Jar Jar.  Jedi's success allowed Lucas ten years later to begin planning his destruction of star wars.  That same year in 1993 the definitive collection was released on laserdisc.  A year after that in nov 1994 he wrote the first outline for the phantom menace. 2-3 years after that the original camera negatives were permanently altered for the original trilogy and greedo shot first. 2 years after that Jar JAr stepped in poo. The end began.

So what exactly are you a fan of?
Time

Qui Gon was the former jedi turned sith Lord Count Dooku's apprentice.  Therefore i think he was a lot more loose with Jedi ethics.

He probably also new anakin would turn to the darkside but seeing the bigger picture was also the one who brought balance to the force by doing away with the sith.  If millions of innocents and thousands of his jedi brethren died along the way it was the will of the living force.

Qui Gon is directly or indirectly repsponsible for the fall of the republic and the rise of the empire.

Don't forget if he did not take anakin from tatooine to be trained anakin probably would have never become a monster like vader, but Luke and Leia probably would not have been born.  He would have eventually been freed as a slave along with his mother by Cliegg Lars and ended up a moisture farmer.

The jedi are flawed in oh so many ways according to the prequels.  Because Yoda was Dookus master and he was yodas padawan.  Qui gon was dookus student.  Obi wan Was qui gons student and anakin was obi's.

Dooku and Anakin both fell to the sith because of flawed training and poor teaching by their masters.

Another irony of the prequels is palpatine needed Jar Jar's help to get those immergency powers that allowed him eventually to kill off the jedi and overthrow the republic.

Jar Jar being a weak minded fool was mind controlled by sidious.

He was supposed to act in Padme's stead when she was away under protection to prevent the war act, instead he did what she did not want.

At the same time Padme has to be the dumbest and most naive person ever to think backwater retard binks up to the task of being a senator from naboo.

You know who would've made a great Anakin?
Time

Thanks to the secret history of star wars a lot more people are realizing Lucas made things up as he went, and did not have a 9 movie outline and the whole story already planned out in the early seventies.

This is a lucas created myth and large piece of misinformation to explain away all the prequels inconsistencies.

Its not all that hard when he has direct control over all that is said about him in official Lucas publications, even when out of print Lucas publications contradict him like bantha tracks or once upon a galaxy.

Plus you have 2 sites to keep people in the dark tfn and starwars.com.

That is because Lucas thought having Darth Vader's birth and the birth of the twins at the same time on the screen was epic and poetic, and a neat idea.

Anyway they are not true backstories but reverse sequels.  How else does Padme die in childbirth, and Leia is Luke's sister and Vader Lukes father.  The first case upsetting continuity with Return of the Jedi and the second 2 bringing the retcons of empire and jedi into the timeline before 1977 star wars. In star wars 77 Vader was not the father nor Leia the sister.

Kenobi had 2 apprentices Vader and Luke's father entirely seperate characters.  Vader and Anakin would have trained at the same time, Vader Kills his fellow knight and joins a rival school with the powers he learned from Obi Wan.  Obi Wan's teachings at first strenghten the sith and not the jedi.

Obi Wan being a liar in a new hope is a retcon when in star wars as originally written he was telling the truth.

Most likely Vader and Skywalker at some point would have that volcano duel where Lukes father is killed and vader crippled and forced to wear a machine man suit.

A new tv spot was released.  Wow this movie just keeps getting more and more rediculous its just plain laughable.  This is not star trek in anything but name.

Pine Kirk "Bring some more guys and it will be an even fight"  in the space bar that looks an offal lot like the star wars one in attack of the clones.

This is top gun trek just like the abandoned academy days script by Harve Bennett, it was a bad idea in the time they were gearing up to make a sixth star trek film.  It is still a bad idea now.

NEW ZELDA
Time

I know the train thing is still a big stretch but WindWaker was set hundreds of years after Ocarina of Time when the seas have risen and acient Hyrule is buried under water and all that remains are islands.  Link and Zelda get reincarnated in their descendants.

Zelda is a sea pirate. Link is just some boy whos grandma gives him a weird elvish outfit.

In other Zelda games their was an ananchronism in their being a postal system.  They had no such thing in the middle ages, but hyrule is not earth and its all make believe anyway and the games are made for kids and the young at heart.

I agree the train thing is lame, but the demographic being Children who own DS systems and kids like trains its a no brainer for sales potential.

Even being a huge Zelda fan because of Nostlagia even i can admit that the games and their themes are juvenile in nature.  The stories are cool, and the music too, and the games are damn fun to play.  But their are really no adult themes in the game, no realistic boodshed or killing or sex.  A reason why older folks gravitate to the PS3 and XBOX360.

Zelda games are very much made for a pre-teen audience to like 12 year olds.  While the Final Fatasy games are more geared toward young teens to middle teens.

I know of very little adult level fantasy games out there.  Whether for the PC, 360 or PS3.  I mean there is fable 2.

No worries man.  Thanks for doing this project.

Doing what Paramount refuses to do, put out the special longer cut in good quality.

I know to honor the directors wishes only the directors cut was on dvd, but now that the theatrical is coming to blu ray the issue seems moot.

You figure for the 30th anniversary of the motion Picture they would spend the money to put out a 3 Disc Blu Ray of all three versions of the film and in 1080P fully restored.  They would have had to rehire Darren D. to redo the effects in 1080p for the directors cut.

How do they honor the anniversary?  With a bad new Film by JJ that pales in comparison to the motion picture, and a bare bones dvd release that is just a direct port over of the HD scan they for the HDTV version.

Another SW.com survey, another chance for OOT fans to voice their opinions, complaints...
Time

Too bad you have to be a member.  I am never paying to use Lucas online ever again much less ever resubscribing.  The magazine has gone done Hill ever since Dan Madsen left.

Plus Lucash star wars.com website did not put out all the promised bonuses for hyperspace like possible old documentaries, deleted scenes, commentarys.  Not only did they remove the DVDrom commentary for the 2004 box set release of star wars and empire strikes back, they never bothered to do one for Return of the Jedi.

I swear other than being a flash animation site, or being spam to sell more Lucash products there is nothing on there remotely even any good.  The old site despite the fact it could have been improvements was still better.

I mean its a joke when TFN site is better and easier to navigate than Lucas site.  Despite basically linking mostly to the Lucas site, repeating lucas based employee reporting on star wars and indiana jones releases verbatim.  And overall kissing ass and gushing.

Still the dvd's are still not fixed and deliberate creative decisions so to ask him to spend any money on website development or content is out of the question especially since the last star wars film was in 2005.

Mielr what happened to being an unabashed Lucas Basher?

By the way dvd or blu ray at this point is not enough the original elements need to be restored and vaulted and a new negative made.  They would have to basically restore the o-neg that has been altered in 1997 which robert harris said he was up to the task.

The fact that the films could be forever lost and are rotting in Lucas Archives is unforgivable, since the films need to be safely preserved not just for future home video release but ultimetely new theatrical release prints being viable of the originals. Robert Harris does not consider a film a true restoration is there is no film print to be screened after the process.

What Lucas considers an Archival Master is the one he handed over to lowey at Blu Ray resolution way lower than the total resolving power and resolution of film.  A 1080 master is a frickin joke.  Sure Lucas can dump that telecine to blu ray of the 2004 and call it a day which is lazy.  For the newest Blu Ray releases they scan at least 4k on films shot actually on film and not HD VIDEO. And the VistaVision elements of the oot need to be scanned at least to 6K before bieng reduction printed to a new 35mm master.

I have verizon fios high speed fiber optic and Utorrent is still saying it could take up to a week.

But what do you expect from 1 seeder vs 56 leechers.

While downloading and being stuck at 57% i have already uploaded 36 gigs and have yet to finish, lol.

That's ok though i had a bit of a seeding ratio standing to make up for on demonoid and thanks to star trek and fanflitration its mission accomplished.

Despite this small community and a few people mentioning interest in the thread i am suprised just how many people want this, not surprised to fanfiltration having a following though.  After the excellent bond set he made and dune as well.

I hope someday he finished forgotten thunderball and fanfiltration of the apes.

This ASSHOLE really pisses me off
Time

Links to places selling edits and preservations regardless of intent is against this sites rules and could get yoy banned.  Plus unless you voluntarily remove such links you are wasting Moth3r's time as he has to remove them then lock the thread.

I have noticed a lot of useless and spam threads lately from new members must be some new trend.

The TR-47 selling stuff is not new.  It is unfortunately out of this sites hands after banning him.

People can try to contact sell.com and get him in trouble, not sure if they have any policy in place for this.

I think he had an account on Ebay and was banned for selling illegal stuff.

There is also some guy on ebay or used to be from the UK who sold stuff from this site too.  Then he set up an account here to advertise his site that sells bootlegs.

This is not exclusive to this community either there is a wanker named stopTazmo who sells anime fansubs and scanlations of manga that he gets downloaded for free.

Whenever you are mailing discs out to people as a pif you are taking a risk yourself, and at your own cost the blanks and postage.  When people you send this stuff to for free go and sell it its a wonder why pif is a dying thing.

The thing is other than excluding TR-47 from trades and pay it forward on new projects, how can you stop him from downloading freely available torrents.

I would not be suprised that within a couple of days sites like ioffer.com will be offering the fanfiltration star trek disc, geez i seriously hate these jerks.

Preservations and Edits are a grey area or are illegal enough already without certain people who do not create them but steal and profit from them.  They steal from the movie companies and the people who create these edits and bring unwanted attention to them.

As long as something is available at retail i suggest people buy it.  The stuff that is not petition people like Lucash to release the damn documentaries.  and until he does keep the discs created by people like editdroid privately in your own or friends collections and don't for fucks sake sell them.

Return of the Jedi: the worst OT film?
Time

That is exactly what should not be done though, and he did it anyways.  The original trilogy should be kept as far away from these notorious bad spin off films as possible.

The oot despite its flaws is pure filmaking art and magic in the way it moves you on a basic human level.

The prequels provoked nothing less than a meh response in me, though i did not leave the theater in absolute outrage as i did when leaving Indy IV.

That pic made me laugh my ass off.  Funny thing is it reminds me of that redone trek trailer by some fan using the audio and footage of the star wars prequels, in the trailer Jar Jar says "I like this ship.  It is Exciting"

I mean what is the worst that could happen in this movie they have a robot sidekick called bad robot, lol.

They won't do that but some fans made jokes to the contrary.

Man whats with all those water pipes in engineering i though this was a star trek movie not a super mario bros movie.

Replace scotty with a plumber named Mario and he would be called on by captain kirk to keep the pipes unclogged to achieve warp speed.

THE OT SOUNDTRACKS SALVAGE - <strong>SW</strong>ESB<strong>ROTJ</strong> -&quot;remastered&quot;(so far)+ LP's (Released)
Time

Sonically the sound of 7FN's Empire Strikes Back LP rip frickin rocked as i listened to the opening bars of the star wars theme blare over my speakers.  The highs and the greater depth of sound i can totallly notice with my ears, even the lows and the greater soundstage and equalization beat the special edition release hands down.

I don't have the software nore do i have the 24 bit original 7FN made.  If you made a sound graph of that versus the Arista Records and Special Edition Releases Plus the truncated original RSO cd release on Polydor what the result would be i don't know.  I do know from experience High end captures of LP material give a much warmer sound than music that has been overly digitally cleaned by noise reduction, processed or compressed.

The one problem is that some tracks have pops or hiss or a crackle.  Though i would rather have that then ruin the sound by Processing it through a DNR filter.  I did that once with Goldwave and used the light settings and still the music was altered.

You know who would've made a great Anakin?
Time

I remember someone on these boards said Heath Ledger would have made a great conflicted Anakin.

Probably because he played Joker in Dark Knight before his death, i don't know.

I have heard others said Elijah wood , you know that frodo guy, lol.

For years the press wanted Kenneth brannagh, not sure if i spelled his name right, to play Obi Wan.  A Shakespearean trained actor.  Unlike say Ewan Mcgregor whose claim to fame was an indy movie called train spotting and he was an unknown method actor.

Had he already been famous i don't think George Lucas would have used him.

Portman when she was chosen for episode 1 was a young actress and virtual unknown except for the professional and the diary of anne frank stage play.  She is did some movie i think called Beautiful Girls or something.

Liam at the time was most known for playing Schindler in schlinders list, and also Rob Roy.

They liked Jake Lloyd in Jingle all the Way, that is why they picked him.  They liked haydens performance in virgin suicides.

I think like the original trilogy the prequels should have been cast as an Ensemble of three actors, the three main leads.   There needs to be good chemistry between the male leads and the female lead in this.  Though there was never any doubt that Padme ends up with Anakin and not Obi Wan, unlike say in the original star wars film where Han and Luke had a rivalry over the princess because she was not his sister.
