They are only copying and echoing the voice of their master George Lucas, who started the whole contempt for the original versions of the films. 

Note these debates did not exist prior to the 1997 special edition trilogy and the release hype for that and the prequels.

Most of their views probably start with Lucas and the making of the special edition documentary, plus through the years lucas re-iterated that those were the final cut of the film.  Then he did a second cut in 2004, what he considered just tweaking a few things.

Lucas considers the originals rough drafts he was forced to release, even though each was a finished work.

Though Lucas is not entirely alone when it comes to an artist revising and revisiting their works.  Stephen King did it with the stand, and the dark tower series.  But king did not try to wipe the old versions of the books out of existence.   Neither did Spielberg, Ridley Scott, James Cameron no matter how many times they recut one of their films.  All their movies are available in Anamorphic and good quality original versions.

Lucas is a singular entity when it comes to the original films being laserdisc dumps in the year 2006 in non anamorphic.  How many other billionaire artists who have a rightfully beloved classic and try to make it unavailable or if made available grudingly in poor form.  To try and make the revised version look better and to force people to watch the 2004 cut because it is restored and anamorphic and the 1993 is not.

The whole success of the saga hinged on Anakin acting like a  2 year old on mustafar.  Whose daddy has just denied him a cookie.

Way to Go George.

I mean this in the end is how Lucas great arc of the story of the fall and redemption of a classic screen villain was reduced to.

I mean if he really wanted 1-6 to be a super epic he should have done better writing, better directing and better casting.  I mean even with Hayden and the minimalist script where only the very end of the film in Episode III leads into episode IV, it still did not have to be done in such an inept and lazy fashion.

I've given George and the Prequels a lot of slack and leeway, but the whole success of the prequels hinged on making Anakins turn believable. What we got was mad magazine level of laughable and self parody which also was done on indiana jones IV.  If George got so old he no longer believed in the material and decided to go for the lowest of lows derision and mockery of his own works, replacing adventure stories and the human element with liberal politics.  It is time for him to retire.

So okay Lucas grew up and his heart died and he became a businessman over being an artist, still does not excuse not giving star wars over to someone who could do it justice.

In the end it turned out so bad there really is no excuse for not hiring a different director or screenwriter to help.

Anybody else notice Hayden Delivering a Bushism taken directly from Bush United Nations Talk.  I think it was something like "If your not with us then you're against us"  Bush most likely slamming France for remaining out of the second iraq war.

Hardy har har.  George made a joke, Bush is a sith lord.  I hope Lucas is happy with Ruining Star Wars and Indiana Jones for tirades against the right wing.

Even on a superficial level Hayden does not give the feeling of Anakin from the description of the original trilogy.  Hayden is a young actor so maybe someday he might make a good movie, learn to act.  But he was terrible in the prequels, and jumper.  Also in Awake.   Not going to go out of my way to see any more movies with him in them because he sucks.

Lucas could have cast an actor who could pull off the nuance a character like Anakin should have been.  He should have written the turn believably, actually had Anakin fall from grace instead of starting out an asshole and a murderer to being an asshole and a murderer. 

There were no layers to his characterization , and what lucas did was not even remotely mediocre it was pitifully bad.  Hire a good screenwriter and character director and a good actor and the star wars saga would need not to have gone out as a joke that people laugh about wooden dialogue and unbelievable romance and zero chemistry.

I mean Anakin only reason for turning to the darkside is to save padme then he tries to kill her, laughably bad.  Then instead of living for her two newly born babies padme dies of a broken heart.  I wanted to scream at the theater screen.  I thought only a moron could so ineptly carry through these three movies when you have the money and the talent all around you there is no excuse for 3 bad movies.  Episode 1 and II were bad films but episode III was an abomination.

I always keep looking for acting and some plot in the prequels, but i can't find it so it must be hidden,lol.

How about that Return of the Jedi came out in 1983, there is a good enough reason why Hayden does not belong in the movie.  For the record imdb lists him as being born in 1981.

I want my favorite movie trilogy the way i always watched them only in modern anamorphic quality.  The 1977/1980/1983 releases or nothing.  No frickin cartoon added cgi to try and make the movies jive with todays audiences or to fit in with current movies.  Destroying Classics is an abomination and it must stop.  A line has to be drawn somewhere.

The only thing i would support are matte line removal and garbage matte removal, fixed lightsabers in one or two shots in star wars 77 and thats it.  The most grievous garbage matte that ruins the film entirely on dvd is during the death star escape millenium falcon gunport sequence.  The Falcon Versus the Tie Fighters.  There are these ugly square blemishes around the ties.  Had they had more time on star wars they probably would have recomposited that shot but they were in a rush to finish. 

Today there is no such excuses for why that remains in the film even in the 2004 and Lucas spends lots of money on Jabba and Rontos and whatever else he put into the film in since 1997.

I am against fine detail removal and grain removal.  That destroys the character of a film on dvd or blu ray.

Generally i find heavy Use of DVNR or digital video noise reduction to be as bad as destroying the movie its used on.

They wanted to make him relatable to a teen audience and to ostracized kids, what would you have done as the producer?

Did you hate the organic webs he shot out his hands instead of having that thing he has in the comics?

There is a reason why it is called an adaptation.  Books are not movies and neither are comics.

What did the cgi bug you, i thought John Dyktra did a preety good job with the first 2 films.

I thought the first 2 films were good films and the third was a bit dissjointed and needed to be edited better.  One two many villains and subplots in the movie. 

Sure Spider Man is younger than he was in the comics and is a total dweeb and a geek.  I like Tobey's spider man because he brings the character to life and makes him almost believable.  This guy is a deeply flawed guy with a chip on his shoulder and has love troubles,lol.

Basically the sith Plotted for a thousand years from the shadows for their revenge.  Palpatine could conceivably due to dark side techiques be hundreds of years old.

I think he wanted a thousand year reign of the sith Through the Empire.  How many years did it last no more than decades, not even thirty years.

I always thought Han forgiving lando so easily was a bit unrealistic.  Had Lando not saved Luke and then Helped to save Han he should be on the other end of hans blaster being capped.

I remember reading someplace that people thought after seeing empire strikes back that George Lucas was racist because the guy who double crosses han solo who is a white guy is black.  The Traitor who gets almost everyone's goose cooked is played by a black man. 

People are sensitive about these things.  They said Jar Jar was a bad racist charicature which could have come out of disney's song of the south.

He put his version of Apocalypse Now into Return of the Jedi with little furry teddy bears called ewoks beating the technologically superior empire. The Emporer's best troops beaten by teddy bears and after they have a teddy bear picnic with a yub nub song to celebrate,lol.

Not sure either it think it was 1993 arista records boxset called anthology.  Note even empire strikes back on that set has reversed sound channels.  But good musician and others have found ways to fix this i think.

I have all the sets and its the only way to have all the music unfortunetely.  Good thing someone on these boards did his best to fix jedi but as the tracks from the special edition have the flaws in the source there is little that can be done to fix it.  The sounds been squished do to too much pre-mastering.

The tracks on the fan release from the anthology even on my cheap set up are easy to tell the difference from the SE.

ABC's set he made is from both the anthology and the special edition.

I myself am going to make my own CD compilation Strictly from the original cd release. And the arista anthology.  Too bad my boxset is scratched to hell ive had it since 1993 and they have probably been played at least a hundred times.  Had i known back then i would have bought another sealed copy.  OUT of Print and no longer available according to Amazon.  Too bad i was going to buy one.

You would think digital noise reduction and hiss removal is a good thing right?  The special edition version sounds clean but is muffled sounding, the arista has analogue noise.  Guess what i prefer somes pops and tape hiss over the music being overly compressed and muddy sounding.  The fact that this passed QC is a joke.

Anakin justifies the evil he does because he is a sociopath.  Read the novel dark lord he actually thinks its Obi Wan and Padme's fault for not joining him in his rightious cause.

Then again he did tell Padme to Join him and help him overthrow the emporor.  He also tells Luke in Empire strikes back " Join Me and i will complete your training. With Our combined strength we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy"

He thinks the rebels are wrong and are lawless traitors of course.

Yeah but it goes completely against the Character of Leia's mother than Lucas built up through the films.

She would never be with someone like that obviously Lucas does character assassination on Padme who was a strong character in episodes I and II and in III she is barefoot and pregnant and stands there.  I find it appaling.  Well at least in the deleted scenes she founds the rebellion. although that never happened according to the force unleashed.

Padme was a Queen of Naboo.  Who fought to free her people from the trade federation.  She is a moral person.  She became a senator to do good.  How could she overlook and forgive Anakin's murderous ways unless she is a bad person too.

The only film in which Anakin is shown as kind and unselfish is Episode I.  Why did Lucas forget to show Anakins finer points in II and III.  Or was it just that padme falls in love with a bad boy type of thing?

If that is the case then it is way too lame and ruins the oot.  The prequels seriously suck if you try to use them as what leads up to the originals. Or Maybe the jedi where always assholes and liars and Luke should just have joined the sith.

Anakin fell from Grace and was seduced by the power of the darkside.  What fall there was no grace to fall from, what power of the darkside it probably was just a lie by palpatine that the sith could prevent death.

Revenge of the Sith shows that the jedi and the sith are pretty much one and the same.  There is no black and white or right and wrong its all grey and morally relative. The jedi follow absolutes just like the sith. 

The bush reference with if your not with me then your my enemy was laughable.

I thought that was killing Younglings according to George.

But that of course flies in the face of the fact that Anakin is an asshole in Episodes II and III and had no problem killing sand person kiddies in episode II. Of and unarmed females too.  tough guy that anakin.

The novelization does make a distinction though that his first murder is dooku, in episode II he was just mad because they tortured his mom to death.   He said they were like animals and he slaughtered them like animals.

That it was not premeditated and he just lost his cool it was just manslaughter,lol.

Anyways jedi are above the law and don't answer to the senate anyway and since they have their own distinction of right and wrong they are to do whatever they want regular people need not be concerned.

I hate the 2004 abomination of a set its plain awful.  Sith should not have pink lightsabers unless that was Lucas deliberate creative decision.  And Who am i to argue with Lucas he knows the best for Star Wars right?

Well considering i have only sat through watching that pile of shit twice on the big screen, and none times on dvd maybe i did not remember it or it was not important to the films plot.

I do remember the painfully stupid lightsaber duels between Hayden Vader and Kenobi and the Emperor and Yoda, the yoda flipping around like he was flugged into an eletric outlet.  Just as bad as Episode II.  and the emporor throwing those pod like senator thingies at him.

You guys think the jedi flipping around in the prequels are ridiculous you should see the superpowers starkiller has in the force unleashed.  Its almost as Troy Denning writing Luke Skywalker.  Of whom one reviewer compared like Luke cutting stardestroyers in half with his lightsaber.

Well he has crash landed a star destroyer twice and survived,lol.  He brought down a imperial Walker with the force.

He is noticeably weak here and holding off Luke with his other hand with the saber in it.   He looks like he is trying to rise to his feet but is too weak to do so under the fury of lukes angry attack.

Any way Luke is using the darkside here to over power vader.  

If it was luke versus Anakin in Episode III luke would still win.  I have no idea how vader won in empire strikes back if you think the anakin of the prequels is in the suit.

I mean starting with Jedi Vader became a pussy.  He also gets owned by Dooku in Episode II when he was anakin and when he is vader in episode III by kenobi. He cuts obi wan down in episode IV only because ben lets him to create a distraction so our heroes can escape.  He even gets owned in the force unleashed by Starkiller.

I mean look at what Palatines electricity does to vader.  Vader has no human arms either. He probably could have used force lightning as the vader with no suit In Episode III.

The real reason is because it was not in the script.

People look for logic in a series of childrens films that are pure fantasy and not real.  I guess a lot of this is the EU fault because people think everything must be explained.  Even George fell victim to having to explain everything uncessary in the prequels while not explaining other things.

Star Wars is Space Fantasy/ sword and sorcery.  Not Science Fiction.  Star Wars universe has its own logic but it happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.  This is Once Upon A time in a kingdom far away.

Other than the basic human story that relates nothing can be related to earth time or earth men, it is not set in the same temporal universe we live in.  Denies the laws of physics and has sound in space.

If it is science fiction at all it is science fiction lite a subdivision where things like space opera and sword and planet stories get moved to, but they are closely related to fantasy which has magic and no science.  The events and objects and all they use at far too fantastical and forget the science in science fiction.

Someone like David Brin would say there is a difference between sci fi and SF.  SF uses real hard science and physics inside a story. The other sci fi relates to pure fantasy with science fiction trappings in  which it is there to only service the plot.  Usually in television or hollywood films where real science bores audiences and gets thrown out the window.

Just because star wars has spaceships and technology does not make it science fiction.  Lucas claims he never intended it to be.  Only Fox wanted to market it that way since they refused to market it as lucas wanted it called space fantasy, when they absolutely refused the name space opera.

To me i don't care either way its fantastic fiction and escapism just like Tolkiens lord of the rings.

To me genre restrictions are boring and more about classifying books and where to put them on shelves and to sell books than anything else.

Science bores me to death anyways if there is no good story.  Hard Science Fiction almost always sucks with some exceptions like Asimov.

It is hard to believe the guy who created Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker also created ewoks and Jar Jar, Hayden Vader and the wooden romance of padme and anakin.

For those who are not aware Lucas did not write the love scene dialogue in Raiders or empire that was Kasden.  However he did write the dialogue in attack of the clones and revenge of the sith.

The snappy and witty lines of a new hope were written by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz.  The Weakness of Jedi comes from Lucas.

Kasden merely did a quick rewrite to help Lucas but was not really involved in crafting the story. 

George did not listen to him anyway.  Kasden thought Han Solo needed to die, so did Harrison Ford.    A second death star was lame and that the ewoks were too kiddie.

I personally agree with Lucas that killing Han off would be a mistake.  And that the ewoks can be given a pass if you look at star wars as a fairy tale for children.  Empire was too adult like and then jedi was like a childrens cartoon in comparison.

The day TFN has a turning point is when they can review films and books objectively and not worry about angering the grey bearded one.  I bet he does not even read his own site much less theirs.

They are biased for Lucas in a way, you would claim that originaltrilogy.com is against Lucas.  But that groups everyone as having the same views and not treating them as individuals.

I don't Parrot things or follow a bandwagon mentality i thought the special editions were awful when everyone thought they were great.  I hated Indy 4 when i first saw it not after reading the reviews,  I hated the prequels after seeing their awfulness in theaters i did not need someone to tell me they sucked.

I love the original trilogy for indy and for star wars and not because someone else said to, i would like them even if they made ten cents.

The Last time i visited there they were attacking the South Park Creators and defending Indiana Jones IV for their beloved messiah.

Lucas indirectly creates the term Nuking the Fridge and they act like its the greatest fucking thing since sliced bread.  That movie was fucking awful on all counts.  Like Watching a sequel to plan 9 from outer space.

i don't know of any other movie director i respected so much as to watch three failed attempts at movies and give them a fourth chance to fuck things up.  My god add the clone wars movie and that is five goddamn times already stop giving this hack your money.

But i listen to my LP, The first CD issue or the arista box and the clarity is there and the sound is not squashed like being brickwalled.

Too bad i needed to read an article online by a williams enthisiast years after i bought them to notice that something was very wrong.  I always felt they were a bit off, but i never could figure out why.

The tops of the musical waveforms have been either overly softened comprssed or just plain chopped off.

This reminds me of why i have to get the guitar hero version of metallicas new album and not the cd which was ruined by Rick rubin as a deliberate creative decision.  Just like They ruined Calfornication and stadium arcadium by the chili peppers.  I have even gone back to some of my foo fighters albums and found them a victim of the loudness wars.

Anyway this proves without a doubt that a demand to Lucasfilm for a remaster is needed, never mind the empire strikes back release being fucked from improper mixing as well.  Only Star Wars is a perfect release.  Jedi is also missing music that was on the anthology set.  Someones need to tell LucasFilm to show a little respect to John Williams and pay for a fixed release. That and the laserdsic dump of the original films makes me more than a little mad with them at the moment.  I guess its not worth doing to Greedo unless there is money to be made.

This is not really Special Content, but The Rocketeer was released in pal Region 2 in 5.1 english sound and anamorphic while the us release is a laserdisc dump in 2.0 and letterbox.

The Evangelion Films for those who like anime were also released in Japan region 2 in anamorphic and with dts sound.  Too bad no english subtitles or dub tracks.

The HD remasters to dvd of Space Battleship Yamato season 1, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Ghost in the shell, Lupin III movies and tv, are all japan exclusives for anime.  The Ghibli Film My Neighbor Totoro has the original fox dub in japan and not the bad disney one.  Also the film Princess Mononoke is a 3 disc edition and we got only a single disc.  The second Urusei Yatsura movie was released in anamorphic and remastered in japan but no us release.

Japan had a 2 disc edition for Underworld Evolution, Aeon Flux, and X-men the last stand.  The last stand was available in just about all regions except the us which got barebones single disc.

The Flash Gordon 1980 pal DVD not sure if its the UK edition or french one has an audio commentary with brian blessed and the director.
