AMC Star Wars Marathon .....
Time

Dcp of the blu ray masters right, no thanks.

My local AMC theater does not even show films on film.

The imax is fake imax.  Its all shown on video.

When they had the Indiana Jones trilogy marathon it   was on video.

If someone digitized film prints of the originals with a great deal of care i would not mind seeing it in dcp, even though i would prefer to see them on film.

The Boba Fett movie
Time

Currently in canon Boba Fett is not even a Mandalorian, and he is the clone of Jango Fett some thug who randomly had Mando armor.

If it was the Boba of the original trilogy, minus the lame way he died in return of the jedi i would be interested. Not interested in prequel Boba.

Would be interested in finally finding out why Boba Fett and Han Solo hate each other so much and Boba seems to be gunning for Solo.

But even filling in those blanks could be really lame if done prequel style.

Boba does have an origin its just really lame like Anakin's origin. Unless they overwrite the origin and the Boba from episode II is killed and someone steals his suit and assumes the name.

Would rather have the man with no name Clint style Boba, but can they do that after the second prequel?

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

By the way, there are references to the PT in the 1997 versions too (celebrations in the ROTJ finale, remember?).

That was the 2004 version.  There were no PT references in 1997 because it wasn't in existence yet.

Not strictly true.  The Coruscant shot was in the 1997 special edition minus the Jedi temple.

There was no uniformity in dark empire or dark empire 2 with the lightsaber  colors so the orange could have been on purpose i don't have the source book only the comics.

But in Dark empire 2 they all have blue white blades.

I just assumed that was Sedriss on the cover of the source book and that as a fan of Vader his saber was the same color but in the comic when he uses one at all its blue.

Who painted or drew that cover for the source book?

Could it simply have been an artists choice or a colorists decision on the color?

I am no longer sold on it absolutely being red though after seeing the comics again and finding that the darksiders use non red sabers.

The Prequel Trilogy Films vs. The Novels.
Time

What i remember about episode III is Lucas asked Stover to tone it down.

That part about the dark being a living thing.

Have not read the book in ten years so i cannot say its significantly better than the film, but i once thought so.

It does explain that Count Dooku being killed was Anakin's first premeditated murder that he just lost control with the sand people.

I don't recall the movie giving motivation to Anakin's actions and getting in his head the way the third novelization does.

That he would kill the whole galaxy and all its people to save Padme.

In the movie he looks just like an idiot who was duped.

It is sort of cool that it has Williamson's and Goodwin's autograph.

Its not a low run though so its value to me is really in that i like the comics themselves.

It's been a dream of mine to get my hands on a set of my own. They start at around $600 these days though. =(

Even reading copies?  Ouch at that price.  I got mine so low it was a fluke.  I almost felt like it was theft at a hundred and fifty it was a steal literally as the lowest price on abebooks was 250.

I think i paid less than the set cost originally.  I mean from the publisher.

I wonder if Al's death is the reason the book has jumped up in price so high it can't be scarcity their are over 2,500 copies of that book.

Never mind second hand sellers wanting close to sixty bucks a volume for the colored reprints titled classic star wars.

I think they gouge just because its star wars.

On that dark empire sourcebook cover.

The color difference is probably an accident either in the printing or who ever did that digital scan of the book.  It is probably the second option. I don't think its a deliberate creative decision, anymore than Vader's Saber turning purple or pink, or Maul's saber turning up orange on the blu rays.

It could just be a continuity mistake like the revenge of the jedi teaser poster, the star wars marvel comic issue #1 or that book where Luke gives Leia a sith red lightsaber as a present.

Or as you imagine it also could be on purpose but it hardly matters because it is legends not Canon it does not need a retcon to explain.

Luke never fought Sedriss the Emperor never was reborn.

The best way to read the Williamson newspaper comics Star Wars run is in black and white.

I think the book i have is over twenty years old.

It is showing age issues.  But it is complete and the original run not edited and colorized.

It is sort of cool that it has Williamson's and Goodwin's autograph.

Its not a low run though so its value to me is really in that i like the comics themselves.

I think if my memory is not fogged over that it came out the same year as the def collection laserdisc set.

Star Wars Digital HD Release .... April 10th
Time

The first film being listed simply as Star Wars a New Hope is crap, as is claiming the original release date as 1977.

It was called Star Wars, none of that bad 1990's or 2000's cgi was in there.

When i saw the trailer with the cgi  millennium falcon from 1997 it made me furious this is not Star Wars.

I also saw that the colors were not fixed and laughed out loud that Darth Maul's lightsaber was still orange and Vader's saber was still pink.

The remastered books are hideous the preview i saw for empire strikes back even has a terrible cover with the 2004 Emperor.

Unless they digitally painted in the new emperor i think the book is the same.

The recoloring will be terrible though.

I think except for ROTJ dark horse hired digital chameleon to redo the colors closer to the original books.

In the much more expensive collected editions from Marvel they are available.

Marvel/disney is reprinting the whole series though if you want just the movie collections its going to be the bad new versions.

Star Wars Digital HD Release .... April 10th

108 dollars before government taxes and fees is how much the collection is on fios.  For some new bonus features, no thanks!

No original cuts of the movies no ability to rent only the special features.  Sorry no sale.

I would pay 90 bucks just for the original cuts of the original trilogy, with no prequels and no bonus materials, limited to no cleanup.  As long as the films had their original audio mixes, the original colors and original effects.

It is so insane  that the last release was done in 1993.

Lucasfilm can rot until the oot is released.

Disney's unwillingness to release the theatrical versions  of the original trilogy is going to sour the experience for me going in to see the force awakens.

Though they will not care as they will have my money.  Unless i am willing to boycott a film i want to see.

Probably worse quality than the retail BD, highly compressed.  Not sure i have never used VUDU.

I mean you take the same master and compress it further how is it going to look better?

Why would you compress it further?  BD is 1080p.  Digital HD simply means 1080p (or 720p) sent digitally (no media).  There's no need to recompress.

Because no streaming file even in 2015 is going to be 50 gigs of data. As far as i know, maybe i have old information.

I won't say the art is bad it is interesting and different from the other titles.

I prefer the old school drawing styles  like Al Williamson.  Wish someone could do more star wars comics like that.

I really liked Wheatley's art even if i hated the prequel reference.

Really sharp looking artwork, looks even better in black and white and shot off the original artwork.

Your first reaction to Hayden is ROTJ
Time

Sadly the Hayden version of Anakin Skywalker, comes off as creepy rather than loving even in his scenes with Padme.  A better writer and director and a better actor might have drawn upon some genuine emotions in some of those scenes in episode III.

Even Anakin's fall at the end is over the top and unbelievable.

He is never shown to be a good friend or the best star pilot in the galaxy, so now Obi Wan was just a huge liar.

All we know about him is he must be the chosen one because the script says so and midichlorians.
