What are you going to do with your SE discs?
Time
I plan to write something along these lines (unless people come up with something we can all use): thank you mr. lucas for creating and making the star wars movies. I mean no ill will towards you, but i am sending back these movies because the only ones i ever wanted were the original star wars films, but purchasing them made that impossible unless i also bought these, so you can have these back now to do with as you please. very cordially yours, (insert name).

Sorry about three posts in a row. It's just how it happened.

I have one more thing on my wishlist, though: the theatrical cut of Phantom Menace (and the other prequels for that matter) on DVD. The changes they made to that movie were worse than most of the SE stuff for the OT (not that it started out that great to begin with), but that extended podrace stuff is the worst crap ever and kills the pacing for the movie. I just want it to die! Whose idea was that, anyway?!

LOL, I agree so, Gaffer. And to think we now require theatrical cuts to movies most of us don't even like...It's funny to think of, but so true.

The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!
Time
I think the trilogy will be fine. I know I posted before in here, but my complaint was that they'll be extras discs. Actually it's kinda funny. It would be interesting to see how the 2004s compare with the OUT in a set together...but almost certainly this set is for those who want the OUT. People who would want the others have had ample opportunity to already. These "extras" will have to be the most anticipated extras on DVDs ever, lol. Can't wait to watch them, even tho I already have the ones OCP did such a good job on this past year. Just watched Jedi earlier tonight.

Yay Star Wars! Yay September!

Hmm, another relevant Robot Chicken would be the JAWS special edition, where the supposed Steven Spielberg goes back and alters JAWS. It's very funny.

I want to see that one. I hadn't heard of it...don't have tv just now. Would be fine except for the few cool shows like this one.

If the SEs had never been made, most people wouldn't have noticed minor differences in versions of the OT. There's going to be so many different versions of the films out there now. Star Wars is such a mess. It's sad that some of the most popular movies ever made are riddled with so much controversy and audience pain. Why oh why did the man have to fiddle with them? Sometimes I wish I could be like my friends who don't blink twice about Star Wars. I think I may need a 12-step program, or even rehab to forget about Star Wars.

I don't like the fact that the OOT is an EXTRA in the set. I say people should use those to make two new copies for each movie. A copy that marries the 2004 DVDs sans SE alterations and these orignal "extras" discs with the non SE stuff. Also, a straightforward copy of the extra disc, not to be labeled as an extra. They aren't extras. They ARE the movies. It's insulting to release them this way.

Star Wars books and summer sunsets
Time
I have been wanting to get back into some of the EU books. I enjoyed the Zahn trilogy as most others here have said. For EU those are probably the best recommended and best reads around. The first Han Solo trilogy by Brian Daly is good too. Someone else mentioned some of the early comics...I would second that. And if you are one to read comics, the Dark Empire series that was published by Dark Horse Comics in the early 90s was really good too, IMO. They released it in graphic novel form as well, at one time, so you don't have to hunt all the issues down. Dark Empire takes place right after ROTJ too.

I want to try Rogue Squadron. Sounds like it's pretty good.

Star Wars EU is so all over the map it can be tricky to find the good stuff, it seems.

Scientology is one of the most ridiculous organizations I've heard of in the modern world. They won't be nailed down by anything supposedly trying to describe what they are about. So, they say they aren't a religion or church. Well, they have tax exempt status and they have the word "church" in their title. So, someone says okay, you aren't a church, oh then they change their tune. They ruin peoples' lives and make them think they are sad so they need this organization? I can't believe the US government doesn't do anything about them torturing people. There's this thing called human rights, and Scientology rips it a new one every day it continues. I say a bunch of world powers should get together a multi-country armada and blast their pathetic Sea Org out of the freaking water.

I'm reading "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd. I like savoring what I'm reading, so I take it much slower. For a while I couldn't read anything because school reading burned me off of all books for a long time. I used to LOVE reading. I want to feel that way again.

I would love to read that book. It's the basis for A Christmas Story, the movie, correct? That guy had a knack for hitting things on the head.

Yeah, it is that book. It took me a while to find in a real bookstore too. Instead of doing the easy thing and buying it online I kept looking in the stores. Eventually I found it after around a six month search.

lol, I am the king of reading too many books too fast. Just ask shim. I usually have like 3 books on the go. One for home, one for school and one for the bus. It usually takes me about half a day to finish a novel. I'm not kidding. I do slightly over 100 pages an hour. I finished hobbit overnight. I finished LOTR in a day.

All I can think is wow, that is way fast. I could never read anything that fast.

If you go to university you'll find yourself doing research as well. I went to UC Berkeley myself. Even in the film dept. you do research all the time. Oh, and I hate school. At the same time I understand I should be grateful, however, since there are many who never get the chance to go this far. It's proving very hard for me to make the most of it. It's also hard to remember a lot of what I learn, so I sometimes wonder, 'is it worth it?' Life is so contrary.

Hypothetical: "Let's do it right this time!"
Time
This is a pretty sweet idea, Jenny...and one I've imagined about before. I've thought a great deal about the originals before...and how that spirit could be resurrected for the prequels. I always feel like it was some wonderful, special blend of talent that happened to befall the movies, and would be VERY hard to grasp again. Like they were a product of that particular time, and those who contributed to their making. How could it be revived for the PT? I'm probably being way too gushy about the whole thing, but those movies are somehow beyond words for me. If only the PT could have seen the same care and creation. One thing I would say is needed: a wonder of the stars. It's all too easy and forgotten in the movies as they stand now. Sure space travel is a normal part of life in the GFFA, but somehow in the originals I always felt this romance about space itself. That should definitely be in the prequels. It's just a little thing, but there you go.
