Star Wars becoming "mainstream" and "popular"
Time
Once a geek, always a geek!
Last year my best friend started yelling at people in the theatre for ROTS midnight showing. He was pissed cause he feels there's all these band wagon fans, and people used to tease him in high school about liking Star Wars. I just kept sinking further and further down into my seat saying, "Shut up, shut up, shut up." I never cared in school if people didn't like Star Wars. I thought, "Well, they're missing out, I don't feel bad for them. "
The originals were way more relevant during their time, than the prequels have been these past few years. Actual number of tickets sold is a huge undeniable indicator.

did lucas destroy star wars?
Time
I think my whole rant in the other thread belongs here. Too bad, I got no more to say 'cept I agree Battlewars!

One thing though, on revitalization...I think some fans somewhere could revitalize it, but it rests in their minds. Maybe it will find a way out. Maybe someone's already puting something into action. It may not even be Star Wars, but influenced by the spirit of Star Wars.

Someone has to goto Wonder Con at bring up the O-OT next week
Time
The OT and the PT are two completely different trilogies. The OT has suspense, drama, artistic looking cinematography, better storyline. The PT is told in a boring, straightforward way. No interesting shots. When there's action it just erupts in front of the camera, bouncing around. Both trilogies have lame dialogue, but the PT is worse cause nobody got to adapt theirs at all, or the scenes. The stupid crap lines that Anakin and Padme share would have been the same with Han and Leia if they hadn't been changed by Kerschner, Ford, and Kurtz. Who knows who else may have helped that along.
The story in the PT has no suspense, no reason to empathise with the characters. The complete opposite of the OT.
This is why when watching Star Wars one needs a strong base of the OT in their mind, then the prequels. Or else you just happen to be a different sort of Star Wars fan. I'm not gonna say nobody's a fan, but they are seeing a totally different saga than a lot of other people did. And it's not the same Star Wars. It's not good Star Wars. It's lame.

I believe there's tons of people into Star Wars that don't understand it. Their poor parents were too imbicilic to show them the movies when they were kids. I've met people my age who never saw them. It's too late for them now, maybe. Unless they have special powers they won't 'get it'. Very few people now can see Star Wars as what it once was. So, all these kids parents took them to see the PT, and they never really saw what Star Wars could be.
I know this is all my opinion, but I've come into contact with all walks of Star Wars fans, many of them prequelers, and they just have a totally different take on the saga. Makes me sick to my stomach.

I will be at Wondercon, but I don't think it will go over well to ask for the OOT. Maybe if they have a suggestion box, lol...
The thing is, I don't know whether I will go to the Steve Sansweet thing. Star Wars makes so much crap now I think it will be disinteresting and boring probably. It'll probably be all about Star Wars transformers and the awful tv show. I wonder if less people will go to it every year as Star Wars gets worse and worse. Lucas will always explain it away tho. He'll think the reason people come less and less is because they are moving on as the "official" part of the saga is over. If he only faced himself and realized people don't care because he's turning out utter crap! Makes me feel kinda bad for Steve Sansweet actually. Poor guy has been into Star Wars collecting for years, and he's in a position now where he has to 'talk it up'. Well, I guess I don't feel too bad for him. He is doing it of his own choice.
I'm really torn on whether to go for the sad comedy or to spend my time wisely while there and find something I may actually enjoy.

TV Recordings of Star Wars Films
Time
In 1993 I recorded off the Sci-Fi channel the original saga Eps 4 - 6 when Carrrie Fisher hosted in full screen. Then I'm not sure, might have been a year later, they had basically the same thing on again only this time showed them in letterbox, but I didn't see the one with Billy Dee. This was the same thing with Carrie Fisher again. Those were both unedited and before the SEs. That was all I thought I needed for a while.

You are needed. A ROTJ remake - Do you want to help?
Time
I do apologize if my post came across as a flame. I don't have anything to do with this project. There are a lot of good ideas presented there, since Jedi could've been way better than it was. I personally always liked it though cause I saw it when I was 6 orignally and didn't know any better. I just don't think Leia would hook up with Luke so quickly after Han dying, that's all. But that's just my view of the GFFA. If you wanna do it otherwise, that's totally your call. Good luck!

What you're reading now: EU style
Time
I'm supposed to start reading the New Jedi Order books, but don't know if I can start another EU relationship again after the disastrous K J Anderson books of the 90s. I wish I could read these things, but it causes me real emotional turmoil. I thought the novelization of ROTS was so boring it took me the better part of a year to read it. That's right, I finished it last week, and I purchased it when it came out in April. I blame it on the boring characters of the prequels. I think the author did the best he could considering the material.
I remember thinking Splinter of the Mind's Eye was fun to read back in the early 90s. Hearing some of the reactions to it here make me actually think about digging it out to read again.

Joss Whedon's Greedo Revenge
Time
I'm sorry if rocks come my way too, but I have to agree with Battlewars. I've never liked anything Joss Whedon has done. I know he wrote/contributed to a few episodes of Roseanne, which is a show I really enjoyed, but I hate Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. I have lots of friends who love these shows. I've watched them at times with them. I'm one of the countless people who've been generously loaned a boxset of Firefly to kindle the flame of fandom...kappooee!! (I watched the WHOLE thing, bored to tears at times.)
These ensembles he creates for his shows! They all just happen to be thrown together in this crazy life? Riiiiiiiight. I know, I know - lots of shows/movies have ensembles, but there's something different about these...it just seems cookie cuttery to me.
And the characters seem too GOOD (Firefly). I know they're not written exactly go-od, but I don't believe them. They are good.
AND -- I HATE it when people compare Mal to Han Solo! ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I much prefer the new Battlestar Galactica. But I am only a mild fan of it at this point.

'Merge' Article- Lucas in his own words
Time
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but back in the day it never appeared he'd even make the prequel trilogy, even though anybody who called themself a fan knew there was a basic framework of three stories about Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. They were not fleshed out in any way. I read EVERYTHING on Star Wars when I was kid in the 80s, and there was NEVER ANY inclination anyone intended to make three prequel films EVER. It was a nice idea that was a what if, pie in the sky thing. No one ever thought he'd do it for real. I believe he was tired of Star Wars then. In the early 90s when rumors started flying about I was totally shocked at first, surprised, and quickly became delighted until it all went to HELL, lol.
But yeah, he just needs to admit that he changes his mind over time. It's completely understandable. I'd forgive him somewhat. Everyone changes their mind on some things over time.

New Gary Kurtz interview!
Time
I love Gary Kurtz, but this convo has got to be a scripted comedy somebody wrote! Not that it's not funny!
I feel lately that Lucas would have destroyed Star Wars right out of the gate, if he'd had more say AND the technology had been around. If this new Star Wars is what it was meant to be all along then I guess I'm not a Star Wars fan, and it breaks my heart cause I've been one my whole life.
As for 5-25-77, I am currently obsessed with seeing it. I even bought the I <3 Huckabees soundtrack today cause it has the song featured in the trailer for the movie. I wonder what people have thought of early screenings of this film? Especially since it's not finished yet. Anyone who's seen it have any comments they'd like to share? I'd love to hear any more about it.
