x265 is nowhere near finished, it outputs worse picture quality than x264 at the same bitrate.

I think HEVC is pretty good and while what you're saying may be correct or true to you or possibly even absolutely true in a general or specific technical sense, until I see you have good reason to say what you're saying, I say it's subjective and I disagree.

x264 5000 kbps encode: http://abload.de/img/761_05000_x264p2o6x.png

x265 5000 kbps encode: http://abload.de/img/761_05000_ybrad.png

Look at the table. All the grain is gone completely.

Note that I didn't make these images, found it on google. Some settings may have been set incorrectly, but there's a reason x265 encodes are very rarely showing up on torrents.

When I basically said, it's all subjective unless you have something to back-it up, I didn't mean grabbing random images encoded with who knows which settings and which encoder (version). Give me a break. Seriously?

Also, while many on here and else where disagree, showing 2 frames and pointing out grain doesn't mean much. Yes, grain can be good, artificial grain put back in after denoising takes it out can be good, but with video compression it's about perceptual quality and we're not looking at individual frames (in exactly the same way) when we're watching the actual moving picture.

Not to mention x265 isn't AVCHD/BD compatible like x264 is.

Will x265 (HEVC) ever be compatible with AVCHD/BD? I'm not sure if that's a good reason not to use it. Doh!

My point was if they want to make an AVCHD/BD compatible version also they're going to have to make an x264 version along with the x265.

You're point or points, don't make sense, but keep on talking. Doh!

Help Wanted: Cliffhanger (1993) on TBS WED July 15th, censored for TV version?
Time

I've spouted this before and I think I was yelled at by the owner. Some people on here want everything no mater what.

Next someone will be asking for the pan and scan versions where there isn't actually any panning, so they could just take the blu-ray and crop it themselves, but of course, they want the commercials too. Why oh why? Oh, I forgot, some site has bit/byte-ratios and inflated compression-ratios and filling releases with useless things is the norm.

Much of this stuff is just wasting bytes.

Info: Discussion on <strong>80's cartoons</strong> on DVD....bad aliasing (jaggies)!
Time

If these screenshots are to be believed, it would be nice if someone made a list of these botched releases. Especially since I'm looking into cartoons to get and I really dislike purchasing things like this and not being able to get a refund.

However, I am wondering if this is an interlacing issue or even if this is a real issue that can be fixed by our OT enthusiasts.

Thanks.

Se7en: Criterion Edition preservation set
Time

Hi all, I like DF's releases, they're really good, however I was looking into Se7en and was wondering, what exactly isn't on the 'Collector's Edition' DVD that's on the Criterion Laserdisc?

DF's Disc 2 contains: Dailies, TV Spots, Original Introduction with Commentary, Make-Up Video Essay with
Commentary, Production Design Video Essay with commentary, over 1000 photographs in a photo gallery,
original motion picture score (audio only) and an easter egg.

And this review site indicates: " It was a fabulous array of material, and the only things missing from New Line's Platinum Series two-DVD set are the make-up effects with commentary by Rob Bottin, the outtakes with Brad Pitt, the deleted artwork for posters, and a few other things (which Pitt and Fincher even mention in their commentary on this DVD release). And of course, the many commentaries — some short, some feature length — seem to be new." http://www.dvdjournal.com/reviews/s/seven2.shtml

What exactly are the "few other things" as it seems DF's Disc 2 has more stuff that's was on the 'Collector's Edition' DVD than wasn't. Can anyone elaborate? Thanks.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - uncensored HDTV airing(s) (Released)
Time

Hi, anyone have a laserdisc rip of The Rescuers? Or does anyone have the censored frames or the scene in full?

If there is another thread, please let me know.

Also, I read that the frames weren't in the original release, however apparently they've been in the print since I think the '80s, however some home media made from another print lineage don't have the frames.

Please PM me, thanks.

Touché, except, you are the one who, to use your words, exploded first. Please don't re-write history, the thread is all here to see.

I think you should slow down a little. Let things breath so that you'll be happier when you get good results instead of wanting to slap someone with it because it took too long for you to get, ya know.

Take care of yourself too .... we don't need members exploding like the bird does when Fiona sings in the woods(Shrek).

Usually, no one ever likes being told what to do. At least that's been my experience.

I thought I could work around attitude and meanness, but I'll just have to ignore it and cease interest in some of this stuff. I'll just purchase a few copies of this version to see for myself, which I didn't want to do because it still might not answer the question. You guys have been really mean and I hope that puts a smile on your face because then you would be 100% nasty and mean.

Ridiculing and chiding with silly sarcasm or ironic idiosyncrasies, and especially when the post only includes silly sarcasm or ironic idiosyncrasies, can (pretty much only) be interpreted as making fun.

I'm still waiting for you to quote the post of mine that you claim is entirely devoid of everything except silly sarcasm or ironic idiosyncrasies.

I'm also still waiting for some quotes of instances of me ridiculing or chiding you.

@skoal,

Silverwook has replied.  Instead of dragging this out maybe you should stop and thank him as well.  It is what you wanted, another person to help clear things up?

Maybe I'm dragging things out, however if I am then Antcu is also. Please be fair.

Your reply, before you edited it, where you asked Antcu to stop, was better because it was fair. Sorry you changed it.
