Yeah , I like that Seven Samurai homage as well and the old marvel series was way ahead of it’s time , they even did a similar storyline in the Clone Wars animated series . Those early issues you mentioned such as the wheel saga and the Biggs issue were some of my favorites as well . I would have to say the Shira Brie storyline is my favorite of the series , especially from about issue 58-63 .
yes . 95 and 96 were great issues IMHO . I thought there was a nice manga look to the art as well and it was long before the current manga craze .I thought luke’s second weapon was a smaller lightsaber though .
what are people here’s favorite issues or story lines from the series ?
I have all of the original individual issues as well as the 3 annuals and the ROTJ limited series , I will have to compare them as well , in the intro to the third trade paperback of the A long Time Ago series , digital chameleon claims the colors are spot on to the originals and they even dare people to compare
loving the content and musings in this thread , I am wondering if there is a difference between colors in the various reprint trades , dark horse started the recoloring with the series of trades called A LONG TIME AGO , which were colored by digital chameleon and I own those , then a few years later they printed them again in their omnibus collection , they also did two issues each of the movie adaptations of the OT with new cover art by Al Williamson, Arthur Adams ,Cam Kennedy etc . and those were the first recolorings of the movie adaptations . and now that Marvel has the license back , they are also putting out trades of the original series . I also own the hardback movie adaptations that Silverwook mentioned and I like some of what they did but think they went too far in some places like the asteroid chase in Empire where they actually erased some of Al Williamson’s artwork in favor of " enhancements " which is an affront to the artist in my opinion seeing that he is deceased and has no say in it . I have always wanted to see the entire series recolored though , but in a way that respects the artists and keeps the work intact and corrects things like the way Luke has a yellow or red saber , the two tone face of Chewbacca that makes him look like a monkey ,etc . those things bugged me even as a kid . I would buy the trades again if they put them out like that .
to each their own , Dark horse did some great work as well and The new series has some good stuff too , I am just nostalgic for the original as I grew up on it .
Over the years I have seen various posts bringing up the original marvel series that ran from the late 70’s to mid 80’s , seems like a lot of affection for it from various members , myself included , I would love to hear your recollections , musings and posts about it .For me it was a monthly childhood ritual of riding my bike to the local pharmacy to go get each issue from the spinner rack and maybe get a charms blow pop , some big league chew gum , or a cassette tape .It was the only way to re live and expand the story of the movies available to me at the time .Fond memories . To that end , I have been making homages and re creations to the covers of that series which can be viewed in my gallery here …https://screamsinthevoid.deviantart.com/ Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts on the series .thank you .
ESB reviews from 1980 ? Does anyone know where to find BBS or IRC board reviews online that show what the reviews of Empire Strikes Back were like when it came out ?
I saw silverwook mentioned the old marvel comic a few posts ago , on that note , Iupdated my gallery with an homage to issue 40 of that series…https://screamsinthevoid.deviantart.com/
After seeing the Last Jedi , I felt compelled to update my gallery with a comic book cover I created depicting a scene from it . This composition sprang to mind as soon as I saw it …https://screamsinthevoid.deviantart.com/
Really good stuff.
thank you !
I’m baffled by the visceral reactions, since I’m an old school Star Wars fan, and should be deeply offended
Yeah it’s exhausting and weird and getting worse every year. We’re going to have a new movie every year for the rest of time and I think I’m going to have to go live in a unabomber shack. (also, the screams in the void art is really cool)
thank you !

I love the original series and would love to see this . I am very interested.
love these vhs cover creations , I took my dvd copy of force awakens and played it through my old apex dvd player hooked up to an old portable tv/vcr combo and made a vhs copy of it . Might do the same for Rogue one and display with all my other vhs star wars movies.
Why not just put a random VHS in the box? (you don’t actually intend to watch it on tape, do you?)
I totally watched it on tape !
updated my gallery with a Rogue One digital movie poster I made , these are great artworks in this thread , thank you all for sharing …https://screamsinthevoid.deviantart.com/
I recently updated my gallery with a digital Rogue One movie poster I created , would be cool to have it on a vhs box . please give me credit if you use it .https://screamsinthevoid.deviantart.com/

@ Shopping Maul …thank you . I thought the post Empire issues were fantastic and agree the writing was top notch , the writers guessed a lot of plot points before ROTJ came out like the Tarkin superweapon which was meant to be a second Death Star , a forest planet with speeder bike like vehicles , small furry bipedal aliens etc . Glad you enjoyed the artwork .
at oojason …Thank you .
these are all fantastic ! kind of remind me of Japanese woodcut prints . I love the Rancor piece !
I enjoyed the fan edit of episode 3 called Dark Force Rising by Kerr . It made for a much tighter story and eliminated the most cringe worthy parts . But that’s just like , my opinion man .
I realized I posted this link to the wrong thread yesterday , pretty presumptuous of me to call my own work awesome , I will let others decide it’s merits . Anyway ,As my Avatar shows , I am a huge fan of the original Marvel Star Wars comic series which ran from the late 70’s to the mid 80’s. I have been creating digital fan art tribute covers for them in my spare time . I could not figure out how to upload images to these threads so I am posting a link to an online gallery of them Which I just created …hope you enjoy and feedback is welcome . Thank You…https://screamsinthevoid.deviantart.com/
