d_j, do you have a vacation planned after all these are out the door?  You've earned it.

Actually I have been on a kind of vacation, I have been laid off since early November unfortunately, that is why these DL's you guys sent really helped more than you guys could imagine LOL.

Me too.  Looking forward to these anyway D_J.

Sorry, by uncorrected, I meant not color corrected.  I thought your original post about this set said that you would not be doing any color correction for this version, so I made that assumption. :)  I'm just curious which LD pressing this is.  Seems like the SWE from the opening CBS logo.  I do actually think it looks pretty good.

Wow. I had no idea there was such a heated debate going on here.

Hehe, sorry if I sounded tought.

No, actually I was more supporting D_J's huge effort restoring and making available those films in - as far as I understand - perhaps the best shape you'll find.

Just observing this irony that it is at the very end of the project that "great ideas" show up.

I like to rant a bit in such cases, don't take it bad, I like to put a few sarcasms when needed. And notice that I care only that D_J is making great things with this, meaning I'm more interested in his effort than to see the result, hence my modest participation to his set.

I hope the best for him, and I hope there will be as much feedbacks for his projects than there have been people watching his thread ! You don't know how much it is rewarding (or frustrating, depending on people's choices to... "share"... Something, or not). ;)

Hey, fair enough, I guess I shouldn't have said anything.

It just seemed to me that since such a major effort was being made to catalog every last audio mix (which seems beyond the scope of just presenting the "theatrical experience"), why not include the one extra two minutes of video that was not covered on this project, or on an official dvd.

Frankly, I have been planning on adding the second crawl for myself anyway.  I wondered what DJ or others would think.  That's it.  I didn't intend to frustrate anyone.

I have actually done it before using DVD Maestro.  It really just involves encoding the video for the overlapping crawls correctly.

However, I'm really most concerned about getting a good enough LD rip of the EP IV crawl.  One that would closely match the quality of the GOUT, and would have the correct framing.

You have a lot more experience working the scripts, etc, to enhance the video.  I could easily encode the final DVD, given help with the source material.

I've got an old version of ANH I made about two years ago, which I could upload as a proof of concept.

DJ, Have you thought about adding a selectable crawl to the beginning of Star Wars?  There is really no definitive version of the original, Episode IV crawl archived.  The SE crawl has a different star field, and some different timings, so I think it should be regarded as a different version.

To me, Moth3r's pal dvd seems to be the best quality version, but when comparing to my DC and 1989 Laserdiscs, the framing is off.  Additionally, there are some noticeable recording or encoding artifacts present.

I'm just curious if you'd considered this as otherwise I will attempt to tackle this myself (I think it would require a new capture), though the most obvious issue would be matching the EP. IV crawl to the dvd Gout footage.
