That made my day.
That made my day.

SWTJ only had one LD release in the 80's.
It was released again in Japan in 1995 with digital audio as well. It was in the Japanese THX Collector's Edition Trilogy Box (same as Faces). The audio from this disc is included my LD Audio Archive.
Thanks for posting these to myspleen. So far I've looked through at just a few spots. Wow, the beginning of Jedi is YELLOW on the JSC!
I love this idea, and I'll be looking forward to downloading.
The trailers are mysteriously absent from all blu ray releases, unfortunately.
I've posted a 720p upconversion of the SE trailers to myspleen. They use the original Theatrical DTS mixes for the audio.
They're fairly high bitrate, and they look pretty good, but they are upconversions sourced from LD.
Is there still a desire for the Laserdisc PCM audio? I can rip all three and have them posted within the next few days at myspleen, if anyone would like. I don't have the blu rays though so I don't think I can sync them. Do the old DVD versions stay in sync with the blu ray?

Does anybody knows what font is used on the GOUT DVD R1?
My best guess is "Franklin Gothic Condensed Book" or "Franklin Gothic Compressed Book". Leaning more toward Condensed.
I can probably help with the audio script if you like, Harmy, though input from hairy_hen would probably be necessary.
Sure, do you have a methodology I should follow?
I've been planning this for a while, but had started working on it only this past summer. I've been tweaking the script to try to improve it as much as possible, but it sure feels like polishing a turd with the LD sources.
I captured my sources with a Hauppauge 2250, but I've just picked up a cheap ATI 550 and ATI HD 750 to try for comparison. I'll try to post samples, but it will probably not be until after the new year.
Thanks, I believe I posted my methodology in the torrent. I am also working on syncing all six films. I currently have ROTS and ANH done, with most work done on ESB and ROTJ as well. TPM should go pretty quickly too.
I'm still considering how to handle AOTC, The theatrical version can't really be reconstructed fully, as the DVD is missing about 45 frames from the T-16 hangar scene. However the footage exists on the Bonus DVD in 16:9.
I'm not sure whether to leave it as a theatrical version, or patch it and sync to the DVD. I'll probably make both versions. :P
This would fall into the preservation category:
PW: OT
It's a processed median of captures from 5 different pressings containing the same DC master.
1) Japanese DC (1st edition) 2) US DC (1st pressing) 3) US DC (2nd pressing) 4) US Faces 5) the X0 capture posted to a.b.sw, presumably from a US DC set as well.
The goal was to get it to roughly the level of the GOUT DVD, potentially allowing an upscale to 720p, in line with the coming team blu release. Special effort was given to improving the starfield, as it is particularly dim on all DC sources. The Japanese SC is better in this regard, but the cropping is different/greater, making the DC source preferable to me.
Here's my script:
Edit: Just noticed how bad this looks on vimeo, here's a link to a much better encode:

The NTSC discs, both US and Japan, have a couple spots that are missing frames when compared with the PAL transfers and the 2006 DVDs.
In ANH, it's after Alderaan explodes. There are spots in ESB and ROTJ as well, but the exact spots escape me now.
Don't know if that influences your choice, but it's something to consider.
I've started thinking about this, but I'm in no way close to getting started. I've got a Panasonic AG 1980 in the mail, and a brand new, unopened fs se trilogy set I got for $4 on ebay, ready to go. I have some other projects I'm working on now though.
I can also confirm that '85 mixes were not done for TESB and ROTJ.
In completing GOUT syncs for the JSC and '92 Japanese fullscreen sets this week, I confirmed that they contain nearly identical soundtracks. Not digitally identical, but clearly the same mix, as they stay in nearly perfect sync over the course of the entire two films.
I have also compared with the original US fullscreen releases of Jedi (CLV, digital and analog tracks) and Empire (CAV, analog only) and can confirm that they are the same mix as well.
I have been helping another forum member with this process over the course of the last few weeks. I'll be creating a general purpose guide for ripping LD audio, which I can share here when completed. It turns out that LD DTS is much more complicated than I originally thought. I'll share the details soon.
Let me send you the 81 crawl I've been working on. I've used an altered version of g-force's median script to combine captures from five different LD pressings.
I included the X0 transfer as one of the sources, along with copies of the 2 versions of the US DC, the Japanese DC, US Faces, and the Japanese CLV THX LD. I can send you the raw avi for you to use how you'd like.
It looks really good for what it is, but I haven't done any other processing to it, so I'm sure it could be improved upon.
You're right. It's been a few months since I did this and I couldn't find g-force's original post. Anyway, thanks to G-Force as well. That script really made a big difference.
Finished these back in the middle of June and forgot about them. I just posted over at myspleen.
Here are the details:
I present here a collection of the four Star Wars Special Edition Trailers.
The video for Trailers B, C, and D was ripped from the '97 Laserdisc editions, while the four audio tracks come from various sources. The most important track is the original Theatrical 5.1 Mix decoded from theatrical DTS discs provided by Jetrell Fo on OT.com. The other mixes are discussed below. Again, much thanks goes to Jetrell Fo. I hope everyone enjoys these, as I think they are the best Star Wars Trailers that exist.
Technical Details:
VIDEO
=============================================================
1. Captured the 97 SE trailers from three different LD copies, using a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 2250, in VirtualDub.
2. IVTC and combined the captures in Avisynth using a modified version of the Median script posted to originaltrilogy.com by user mysycamore.
3. Resized to 720p resolution using Spline64Resize filter.
4. Encoded to h264 using Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (Blu Ray Spec)
AUDIO Track 1 - Theatrical DTS Surround
=============================================================
(Decode to WAV)
1. Convert to 5 mono wavs (L, R, C, Ls, Rs) with apt-x100 DTS Decoder in winamp. (Produces 5 wavs @ 44.1kHz/16bit)
2. Save to 5 mono 24 bit wavs with no dither (padded wit zeros) using Weiss Saracon.
(Convert to 23.976 fps)
3. Interpret Sampling Rate as 44,056Hz using Adobe Audition CS6.
4. Upsample all tracks to 48kHz using Izotope RX 2 Advanced (64Bit).
(LFE Channel)
5. Create Stereo wav with Ls and Rs Channels using Wavewizard.
6. Apply Flat Lowpass Filter (Analog Mode) @ 80Hz with Q=24, sum to mono using Izotope Ozone 5 Mastering mode.
7. Save as 24 bit mono wav with 48kHz sampling rate.
(Surround Channels)
8. Attenuate by -3dB, then apply Flat Highpass Filter (Analog Mode) @ 80Hz with Q=24 using Izotope Ozone 5 EQ mode.
9. Save as 24 bit stereo wav with 48kHz sampling rate.
10. Split to 2 mono wavs with Wavewizard.
(Combine Tracks)
9. Syncronize Tracks in Adobe Audition CS6.
10. Save as 24 bit, 48kHz, 5.1 channel wav.
11. Encode to DTS-HD MA using DTS HD Encoder Suite
AUDIO Track 2 - Theatrical DTS Downmixed to Dolby Stereo
=============================================================
(Decode to WAV)
1. Convert to stereo wav with apt-x100 DTS Decoder in winamp. Use Dolby Surround/ProLogic settings.
2. Convert to 24bit wav with no dither (padded wit zeros) using Weiss Saracon.
(Convert to 23.976 fps)
3. Interpret Sampling Rate as 44,056Hz using Adobe Audition CS6.
4. Resample to 44.1kHz using Izotope RX 2 Advanced (64Bit).
5. Dither to 16 bit using TPDF mode in Weiss Saracon.
AUDIO Track 3 - Laserdisc Stereo PCM
=============================================================
1. 16bit, 44.1kHz, Stereo LPCM Captured 3 times to ensure bit accuracy.
AUDIO Track 4 - Laserdisc Dolby Stereo AC3
=============================================================
1. Dolby AC3 track captured as 16bit 48kHz Dolby Digital Wav.
2. DDWAV decoded using BeSplit.
3. Synced using delay settings when muxing.
TRAILER A
=============================================================
Trailer A was included on the Official 2004 DVD Bonus DVD, and has been included here for completeness. The video has been upscaled to 720p using Spline64Resize and re-encoded to h264 using Adobe Media Encoder CS6. The audio is the stereo ac3 present on the original DVD.
BONUS
=============================================================
I've included the Behind the Scenes Featurette from the 1997 SE Laserdiscs here as a bonus. The video was processed in the same way as the trailers with the exception of the IVTC step. Since the video is a mixture of film and video sources, IVTC will work fine with the film content, but will eliminate fields from the video portions. I tried various IVTC methods, but found that the interlaced video actually looked the best on my TV. You may have different results, but this was my justification. The video is presented here at the original 480i resolution. I've included both the Laserdisc PCM and Dolby Stereo AC3 tracks.
I know there are torrents, but they haven't had seeds in years I think. Maybe I can seed now that I have the files. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks, I figured out that I couldn't find it because my Usenet account was out of download credit. Thanks for the Upload.
Could you share where you found them?
I'm working on syncing each of the 6 Films right now using the DTS Theatrical CDs, and I just realized that the two of the three 1997 SE trailers are on the discs. It would be really easy to get the 5.1 mixes for these trailers, which as far as I know are not available anywhere else. They're in Dolby Digital 2.0 on the Laserdiscs and the Star Wars one is also in Dolby Digital 2.0 on the 2004 DVD Set.
Would there be any interest in this and would anyone know which other films' discs might have the first SW trailer?
Edit: After a little searching, it looks like "Star Trek: First Contact" might be the film to look for.
Just ANH, the other two don't have the shrinking ratio issue.
