<strong>The &quot;EditDroid&quot; Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread</strong> (Released)

Ok, I do this, then when I save the new IFO, it asks me, "Do you want to save it as .BUP aswell?" Well, do I? Thanks!

Yes, ultimately you want to save it as .BUP as well. .BUP file is simply a BackUP of the .IFO and the two should identical.

Of course, it's wise to save copies of the original .IFO's before altering them permanently with IFOEdit. Personally I put copies of the original .IFOs &.BUPs in a seperate folder on the DVD when i burnt it, just in case I need them in the future, e.g. for re-torrenting, etc.

Info &amp; Help Wanted: the Sebastian Shaw scene from the end of ROTJ
Time
Ah, my original vaderunmasking file on yousendit has expired, so I've reupped it to rapideshare. Its split across 3 .rar files.

Unmasking part1
Unmasking part2
Unmasking part3

You may have to wait an hour between downloads unfortunately, but hopefully rapidshare lniks should stick around a bit longer than yousendit.

Its PAL format .VOB file, cut from the G'Kar (German) version using Womble editor, so theres no reencoding. If you have trouble playing it, rename it to a .mpg file.

Hopes this helps, Hal. The clip should be pretty much identical to the Canal+ DVB version you have.

Even though there's apparently no 'official' dvd-rom contents for Empire, that hasn't stopped Starkiller from creating some to make all three releases consistent:

Release Notes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is my understanding that the EditDroid DVD offering of The Empire Strikes
Back did not feature DVD-ROM content. However, Star Wars and Return of the Jedi
both did. So, for the sake of continuity, I have created a DVD-ROM CONTENT
folder to complement the ESB DVD.

This CONTENT folder features images and content of The Empire Strikes Back
Portfolio by Ralph McQuarrie and original scripts in PDF format. The
high-res images aren't the best, but they are the best I had available.

I would like to thank the members of EditDroid for creating this most excellent
set of DVDs. I hope they don't mind my small addition.

Again, I hope Starkiller doesn't object to me nicking his post and putting it here, and thanks once more for making and sharing it in the first place:

The 'shaw as anakins ghost' end segment I posted on rapidshare a while back still seems be working: Get It Here

FYI Its taken from the G'Kar Release (sometimes erroneously referred to as the 'German HDTV' release) which is why two of the audio tracks on it are in German (English stereo is on the third audio track). It comes from a DVB source, in anamorphic PAL format.

EDIT: Ah, you beat me too it Darth Editous!

DVD-ROM CONTENT folder for the EditDroid ROTJ DVD - Posted by............: The Starkiller
Release Notes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This DVD-ROM CONTENT folder is meant to fill the void created by the missing
content on the EditDroid Return of the Jedi DVD. It is a RECREATION based on the
description given on the DVD and the content of the EditDroid Star Wars DVD. It
contains images and content of the Ralph McQuarrie Return of the Jedi Portfolio,
original scripts in PDF format and Star Wars sound effects in wav format.

I would like to thank the members of EditDroid for creating this most excellent
set of DVDs.

Hope Starkiller doesn't mind, but I've uploaded the 7mb .rar file to rapidshare for all to enjoy: Get It Here
Many thanks to The Starkiller for to putting it together.

Err..curious. What's with the 627mb "AOL 9.iso" disc image in the DVD_ROM folder?

The AOL .iso is the Mail on Sunday 'exclusive' Epsiode III CD-Rom - the AOL bit is just an unfortunate side effect or the disc being done in partnership with them.

Here's the content as listed on the back of the disc:
"This free CD ROM feautures exclusive content from Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith
Interviews
Behind the Scenes
Trailers
Gallery
Downloads
Trivia Game"

Or to be brutally honest, a couple of webdocs, stills and trailers wrapped up in a Macromedia Director frontend - there's nothing on there you can't find on web, but for a free giveaway with a Sunday paper its...adequate. The Night & Day: Sith Special magazine supplement that also came with the paper was actually pretty good.

But for future releases, how do I get the behaviour observed on retail DVDs, that is, the picture is always presented as letterboxed?

I haven't had a chance to put this to the test, but I'm going to stick my neck out and say I reckon this is something that's correctable with ifoedit.
Comparing the video attributes of your .ifo's with retail discs, the commercial discs seem to be only set for Automatic Letterboxed, whereas yours are also set to Automatic Pan&Scan. So hopefully its just a question of unchecking that Automatic Pan&Scan box.

Can anyone more knowledgeable tell me if I'm on the right track?

Nice sample images, looks like a great start Citizen. Be very interested to see how your transfer compares to Moth3r's.
I'm all for seeing more PAL transfers, and in seeing how much difference your 5 file averaging technique makes to video transfers in general.

I'm also curious if there's much difference between upscaling the image before the 5 file averaging compared to upscaling after the file averaging.

Moth3r,

I was chatting with Garrett, and he made me aware that your ANH disc plays as Pan&Scan in 4:3 mode. It was news to me - living with the joys of 16:9 widescreen tv, never thought to try it in 4:3 - and I was suprised no one picked up on this before. I just wondered if this was intentional, or something that's going to be addressed on your future releases.

Your work on ESB sounds great BTW

Can the Ewoks be cut out?
Time
Short of completely editing out Endor, the only way I can think of making removing all Ewoks work, would be if you replace them with shots of Johnny Rambo in the forest from First Blood. Think about it - he's doing the whole primitive versus technology thing, and he's laying all those traps to catch unwary pursuers/stromtroopers/scout walkers....

Sounds like a great idea to combine those UK tabloid giveaway discs onto one DVD. Very sneaky of the Sun to spread an hours worth of material over two discs...(insert tabloid slagging insult here)...
Still it got me to buy the papers. Sassan frassan rassan....

If you've got access to a scanner, the Episode 3 Special Night and Day magazine that came with the Mail on Sunday would be also worth including on the disc. I found it more interesting than the CD-ROM.

Thanks for all the babyhum releases so far. Great stuff.

Sounds like it'll be an interesting watch!

It certainly does. I don't even remember half of the stuff mentioned on the disc. But that probably has something to do with living in the UK and not having a satellite/cable subscription.

Wow, you're a busy man, OCP, that's your second disc in a week - Inconceivable! Sounds like you're releases couldl be a great compliment to babyhum's - giving great SW coverage from both sides of the Atlantic.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work. News of your releases is starting to have a Pavlovian effect on me

10 of the best Star Wars moments - article from MSN
Time
Well, a list like that is always going to be subjective, there's more PT scenes in there than I would have on my list. The thing I had the biggest issue with in the article was this:
Quote

6. Yoda vs. Dooku - Cheese Factor: None. It's the coolest thing Lucas has directed in the new episodes so far.

For me this is one of my personal worst ever scenes in a star wars movie. I've NEVER wanted to see Yoda fight, and for me the scene just played like the "Ghandi II" scene in Weird Al Yankovic's 'UHF' movie.
Quote

No more Mr. Passive Resistance. He's out to kick some butt. This is one bad mother you don't want to mess with.

I always assumed Yoda was so strong with the force he was beyond needing to use a lightsabre. With the prequels there seems a severe lack of anyone using the force, and instead being a Jedi is now about waving a sword around.
Then there's the whole spiel from Vader saying the death star is insignificant compared to the power of the force, yet with the PT the power of the force seems insignificant compared to the ability to wave a glowstick. Growing up with the OT the Jedi always seemed cool. Yet the PT makes them seem cringeworthy and lame. And I think the Yoda fight sums it all up for me pretty well. Even with that rationale aside, for me, visually, spinning Yo-Yo Yoda is cheese incarnate.

At least the clone wars cartoon made better use of the force. The jedi actually seemed cool again in that.
And for me the Anakin versus Asajj Ventress fight at the end of the first (second?) season belongs amoung my list of top star wars moments.

Help: looking for... Return of The Jedi Cut with Alternate Workprint Ending???
Time
That'll be one for the Star Wars.com Urban Legends page

Although being the official site, its not exactly impartial, and they have been known to rewrite star wars history on occasion, as per Lucas' revisionist whims.

The only alternate(ish) ending I've seen for Jedi is a roughcut of the 1997 Special Edition changes, consisting of the original ending footage intercut with storyboards for new shots of the planets celebrating, set to what sounded like an early version of John Williams 1997 SE end celebration music. No exploding Falcons though

I'll be sure to get up early and look for tomorrows mail on sunday though, ta for that russs15. Wonder if that'll be going for silly money on ebay too? Some people are paying 15 quid for the heroes and villains dvd's? Wow. "Those guys must really be desperate"

Very nice looking screengrabs. Are they from before or after mpg2 encoding?
Looks like a very good start, Moth3r. The edge halos doesn't look as obvious as the star wars transfer, and the colours look pretty good to me. The only point for criticism I can see is the red behind c3po looks a bit noisey, and seems to have a bit of a moire pattern running through it. Is this a casualty of dot crawl or a problem in the original source? And more importantly, how does it all look on a tv?

Anyway, I'm a big fan of your work so far, and looking forward to seeing what you do with Empire and Jedi.

And yay for feet and inches, and pounds and ounces - Imperial measurements seem appropriate for this site

Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time
Saw this on cinescape: Alien Planet

Not strictly star wars, but it promises to feature the bearded one:
"On May 14th, The Discover Channel will air Alien Planet, an conceptual exploration of an alien world teeming with life." Sounds a bit like BBC's highly speculative "wildlife documentary" series, 'Walking with Dinosaurs' - except this would be 'Walking with Aliens'.

"Other participants include Jack Horner, Craig Venter, George Lucas and NASA's chief scientist, Jim Garvin.
Alien Planet premieres Saturday, May 14, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. "

Idea: Star Wars (1977): Classic Edition
Time
I'll probably not screw with the colors on the 2004 DVD too much. It's an awful-looking transfer, very poorly done, but it would take a LOT of work to make it look any better

Have you considered using a high quality version of the 1997 SE as your source, such as the G'Kar version that was made from an anamorphic digital broadcast (admittedly in PAL format)?
