Info Wanted: Star Tours footage?
Time
That star tours promo sounds intriguing Rowman, curious to see/hear the droid rapsong now. Having experienced 'Christmas in the Stars' album, and similar musical atrocities of their appearance on Sesame Street, I'm imagining something 'worthy' of the Holiday Special

Here's another video clip (73mb), a look at Star Tours at Disneyland Paris, from Germany's RTL channel. Needless to say, it's in German. Do we have any German speakers who can translate it?

Here's some screengrabs. The quality of the ride footage looks great, but unfortunately there's only a few seconds of it.

Sounds like a good move mebejedi.

I just found this site devoted to Star Tours, www.swstartours.net.
There's a thread by Kitmouse who made the flash movie, sounds like he could still be tinkering with it. It also mentions a DVD one of them put together full of Star Tours goodness.
"a DVD that I made, which compiled every video clip of Star Tours that I could lay my hands on, including electronic press kit clips, etc."
Ocpmovie, does that one that sound familiar, and any idea if the guys from this forum made the discs you mentioned? Admittedly their names are completely different, but that's hardly anything new.

Good upload Crypto Sith, just downloaded it and it looks like a different clip taken by someone else, although as they focus on almost exactly the same points of interest, they're are very similar. The audio is so much better in your clips though, and you get to see things from a slightly different angle, and the video quality is arguably nicer.

Interesting to hear where the clips came from. I tried to find Disneyland Source, but the site seems to be 'mostly dead' - even using the wayback machine, there's not much of it left archived. The good news, is that is lives on in its successor www.visionsfantastic.com and bizarrely on there, is a WMV version of the mpg file i uploaded, as well a smaller differently edited version using the same footage, even down to the overloud distorted audio.

Was hoping they might have more info on the ride on their site, but they only seem to have one page, with a single image devoted to it, aside from the video clips.

If anyone wants the clips from the visions fantastic site, they're free to download from the site, but you have to register (for free) to access them.

Thanks for the audio file tip Adamwankenobi, nice to hear a clear version of the ride, although if that's the file offered by hyperspace, I'd have liked to see them offer a file with a better bitrate/sample rate to paying subscribers.

As for the video, I've seen the one on the rarities disc, which is fairly low quality, and I've just found an mpg of camcorder footage someone took of the ride. It doesn't show the ride off quite as well as the rarities version, and sound is blownout (less of an issue now thanks to AdamW), but the most interesting thing about it is it shows the entrance set/animatronics during queue for the ride.

edit update: I've now uploaded the camcorder footage file to megaupload.com, its approx 74mb. Get It Here

Info Wanted: The Pink Five Collection
Time
Atomfilms do what now? Thats annoying, I missed that. Didn't know they did hi-def. Where can I find out more? Any idea if that was just a one off, or do they do for other content too?

Its a shame they don't commercially release some of their films as compilation DVD's, as streaming video just doesn't do many of them justice. I would also hope any commercial release would see a share of the profits going to the filmakers, like Trey and Amy, who deserve more than just fan adoration for their hard work. I found more entertainment value watching Pink Five and Pink Five Stirkes Back than the enitre 6 hours plus of star wars prequel. And more rewatch value too. Flattery enough yet, Trey?

It's possible to download the video from atomfilm, but you'll need software like WM Recorder to save the video stream as something more usuable.

edit: previous link removed. Why not Watch Pink Five at atomfilms.com
and/or Watch Pink Five Strikes Back at atomfilms and earn the filmakers some royalties instead.

And I have to say thanks for including Pink Five on your extras disks Rowman, it was after watching your easter egg that I sought out the sequel. I think they're both great and can't wait to see Return of Pink Five, whenever they finish it - love the salacious crumb 'i want to go to the toilet' scene in the trailer. Now if only there were DVD quality versions available...

I think we REALLY dodge a bullet with Episode III. (read inside..)
Time
The idea of Han as a Tarzan (TarzHan?) style orphan on Kashyyk seems to date back to Empire Strikes Back, or at least 1997, according to the Annotated Screenplays, with this little gem from the Empire Strikes Back section (page 131)
"Many changes in Han's character were discussed during story meetings. In coming up with a possible mission for Han, George Lucas fleshed out the character's backstory. Han is an orphan and was raised by Wookiees on their planet. He left, flunke dout of the Space Academy, and then met some kind of Ernest Hemingway character, a very powerful trader in the galaxy who took Han under his wing until they had a falling out. Han swore he'd never talk to him again."

Which goes to show Lucas never likes to throw away and idea, no matter what its merits. As an idea for a backstory I could live with it. As for including it the prequels, well thats just another contrivance that results in making the star wars universe that much smaller.

Which also leads me to another point, how come the prequels have next to no backstory?

Ewok Feature Films ('Caravan Of Courage' & 'Battle For Endor') - 1999 soundtrack CD

Yes, I've tried a number of things with YSI, different browsers, different addresses, and it starts uploading but never completes.
I tell a lie... I managed to successfully upload files lower than 1MB but anything above that never finishes uploading. The uploads just tail off and the page just sits there saying its still uploading. Beleive me I've tried it a number of times, and left it HOURS in some cases, and its always the same for me with large files.

Help: looking for... 'From Beyond' - available on laserdisc or preservation project?
Time
"you guys are my only hope..."

No, there is another...

Well a couple actually, theres the Hong Kong DVD release of From Beyond, although it looks severely lacking and has burned in subtitles,

Then there was this very promising article at the start of the year: MGM From Beyond DVD in the works - missing footage found
Sounds fantastic, but unfortunately things have gone rather quiet on that front, and no one seems to know if or when this will see the light of day.
Although MGM have been releasing a number of films I thought would never get released onto DVD, so fingers crossed that they're still busy working on From Beyond.

Hoichi, I'd love to help you, but unfortunately I've never been able to successfully upload anything yousendit. You could say I'm suffering from the opposite problem to you. However, I might have a crack at uploading to megaupload, or someone who's already downloaded it could maybe try uploading it to yousendit.

Alternatively, you could try the rapidshare links run through an online translator such as altavistas babelfish or similar - effectively rerouting the weblink and using the translator site as a proxy - I've used this trick in the past to succesfully access a few sites my ISP had problems with, and it might get around whatever restrictions are on your system.

I see your point, although I wasn't advocating Nero as much as just trying something other than DVD Decrypter if its not giving you any joy.

Trawling the forum at videohelp.com I saw mention of RecordNOW as being able to control layer change. Don't know if it'll help, but here's the thread: DVD+R9 Double Layer first burn: problems with layer switch

I've not got a dual layer burner, but I have found DVD Decrytper to be a bit flakey for burning discs. Especially if i have any other software running at the same time (and we're not talking intensive stuff), chances are DVD Decrypter will turn that disc into a coaster. Nero on the other hand has proven constantly reliable.

Its a costly experiment, but trying different software sounds like a good idea before ruling out that batch of DL discs entirely. And if you've not tried it, burning at the lowest speed might be a bit more reliable.
Just annoying that it'll cost a fiver to find out...

Ewok Feature Films ('Caravan Of Courage' & 'Battle For Endor') - 1999 soundtrack CD

Many soundtrack websites I've looked at refer to it as a bootleg CD, produced in Singapore. From what I can tell, this is the only CD version of the Ewoks soundtrack produced, and the only official version of a Ewok soundtrack looks to be an LP version released in the mid 80's. So the assumption is that the CD is a bootleg of that LP, although I've not read anything that states that explicitly. Need to do a bit more research I think.

A quick google search returned this page for some higher-res ewok cd covers. It isn’t the ‘official bootleg CD’ (if that’s not a contradiction) artwork, but looks like a fanmade alternative.

EDIT: Update - a slightly harder google search found this rather good Rare Soundtracks site - if you look in the cd covers section, then follow the John Williams link you’ll find these quality scans of the proper cd artwork:

The rest of the site is worth checking out too…

For those who asked, you'll need a program like WinRAR to open the rar files, which you can download from rarlab.com
I'm also told Quickzip and Stuffit will do the job. (A Rar file is just another compression format, and a common alternative to zip files)

As for where I got hold of a copy, originally I found a version on the edonkey network, although the one I posted is a better quality version that came from a torrent sometime back. I think it was from oink.me.uk or demonoid...
