***Citizen's NTSC DVD/PAL DVD/XviD Info and Feedback Thread***
Time
Just finished downloaded this and its one of the cleanest transfers I've seen to date. Nice work Citizen!
I defnitely need to invest in a dual layer burner so I can watch this on my TV now (just waiting for my favoured supplier to get the Pioneer 110 multiwriter in stock)

quote by Moth3r
I still think my version has the edge in terms of detail (compare Threepio's face in shot 5, but if you consider Citizen's disc as a whole - colour, absence of halos & dot crawl, audio, menus and extras I think he has upped the standard.

Agreed, your transfer does look sharper, Moth3r, any idea why? Did you apply a sharpen filter to your capture? Or could it be the resizing algorithm you used produced a sharper image.

Other thoeries - maybe citizens 5 capture merge technique produces a softer result. Or as this is an NTSC version we're comparing, was it going through two resizes - i.e. was the capture first resized to anamorphic PAL and then resized back down to anamorphic NTSC, or was the NTSC version a direct resize from the master file.

Be interesting to see how Citizens PAL version compares.

I'm really liking the leap in quality all these recent captures are showing. Almost makes me weep with joy

Star War, Episode III - Backstroke Of The West (part-finished release?)
Time
Reverand, your wish is my command. Seeding now. Right now the availability of the torrent is at 3.999 so there should be more than enough data out there. I've also noticed that thepiratebays website doesn't always accurately reflect the number of people connected to the torrent for some reason. I've recently decided its sometimes worth trying those zero seed torrents to find out of the tracker says otherwise.

Redbaron, were you replying to a post thats been deleted? As your post appears slightly out of context - although i have to agree with its sentiments.

.: The X0 Project Discussion Thread :. (* unfinished project *)
Time
Yeah, I just read the fist newsletter too. Great stuff. These insights into the restoration techniques used by the X0project team, and people like mverta, are some of the best 'side effects' to come out of the various archive projects. There's a very handy tutorial/knowledge base that's building up.

I'm also particularly interested in hearing the teams reply to THX's above post, epsecially their opinions on the Japanese Special Collection laserdiscs that have got everyone excited over in the ***The Official Dark/Sega Special Collection*** Release Thread (Not an SE Transfer)

I remember it getting mentioned briefly in the past, so can you refresh our memories, or go into a bit more detail of this sets pro and cons over the Definitive and Faces sets?

Star War, Episode III - Backstroke Of The West (part-finished release?)
Time
There's a torrent for a full SW3 Backstroke of the West DVD (4.14GB) at a thepiratebay. And the Engrish subtitles are optional.
Alternatively there's also an .avi version (700MB) torrent there too.

I've used subrip to extract the subtitles to a couple of formats, that you can download here

SRT, STL and SUB files created using OCR setting in SubRip. (80KB zip file)
SUP file extracted with VobEdit - not sure how useful this is as I've never found any software that can edit SUP files, but its a straight demux from the DVD. (1MB zip file)

As I've not reauthored the disc using these files, it's hard to know quite how accurate they are, although I imported just the stl file into DVD Maestro and the subtitles seemed to appear at the correct times.

The thing to bear in mind is they are timed to fit the controversial timecoded bootleg, which has several sections where the video repeats itselfs for several seconds. If you wanted to fit these to the official DVD they would get progressivley out of sync, so the subtitles would need nugding forward by a few seconds at key points (where the bootleg repeats).

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
Good links, none.

RE: Star Wars Tv Specials DVD - I managed to grab this from Demonoid, just before the ROTS got leaked to the internet, and the MPAA went on pirate crackdown - the upshot of this being demonoid removing anything connected with star wars from their site at the time, and this was one of those casualties.

The quality of the video looks great on the whole, no noise as far as i can tell, and it look like a dvd recorder capture. However, during between ad breaks on Animal Icons, and the E Behind the Scenes, the video gets noticeably darker for some reason, implying different capture settings at some point - not sure if they stopped recording at the ads or edited them out later. The other downside of this disc is navigation. Like you said, it has no menu, and I seem to remember there was an issue with chapter points on it as well - either a lack of, or just too many.

I can't find the original disc right now, but I did rip it to my harddrive with the intent of reauthoring it with better navigation/menu. As it stands I've only got as far as correcting the darker vieo segments, and giving it sensible chapter stops. The menu still needs work.

edit: just found the original disc disguised as a blank - that'll teach me not to write the title on it. I was wrong about the chapter points, they are sensibly laid out, but the disc is broken up into 17 titles of 10 minutes each (the bits betwen ad breaks) - which causes a problem with some players/programs. e.g. chapter advancing in powerdvd doesn't doesn't jump to the next title.

And in other news, there's a torrent over at thepiratebay for SW 3 - Backstroke of the West DVD. With optional Engrish subtitles.

Info Wanted: anyone done 'The Donny and Marie Show' Star Wars skit...
Time
I think you're all being too harsh on it. It may be bad, it may be cheesy (personally I like cheese), it has one thing going for it that the holiday special could have benefitted from - a chorus line of dancing stormtroopers. Surely I can't be the only one who gets a kick out of seeing that?

And however misconceived, it seems to be done with more enthusiasm and enjoyment from the participants, than appeared on screen with either the holiday specials or much of the prequels (or ROTJ in Harrison Fords case)

Ewok Feature Films ('Caravan Of Courage' & 'Battle For Endor') - 1999 soundtrack CD
Time

Well, I’m sorry to hear that, never encountered that one in my life. Google’s still working fine for me, and returning many pages of links for kazaa and kazaa lite searches.

Anyway, here’s something to cheer you up:

[LINK REMOVED BY MODERATOR]

The download finally completed earlier this evening. Its a .rar file so you’ll need a program like winrar to uncompress it. Cover art is included. Its the Peter Bernstein Ewok movies soundtracks, almost identical to my earlier upload, except this version is at 320kbs, giving it slightly better fidelity. Comparing the two versions, I thought this one sounded subtly richer.

Thanks, google and others won't allow you to search for it.

What!?! If you're talking about k-lite, google is where I just got that link from. I don't know what you're using but I've had no problem with google finding links to that or anything else. Sounds like you may have some sort of network censorship in place.

No, edonkey, which is inherently slow. If this had been a shared torrent I could've had it in less than half an hour.

With fileshare programs like edonkey and kazaa, you spend a lot of time waiting due to the queuing system the network uses. Even if there are people online sharing the file you want, you may end up so far down the queue at the uploaders end, that they go offline before its your turn to receive data. Even when you do recieve data, its likely to be limited to a few kbs, as the system is based around sharing multiple files at once - similar to trying to seed multiple torrents at the same time - each torrent will be reduced to a tiny trickle of data.

Try it out, you'll see what I mean.
