***The Official Segaflip Release Thread***
Time
If I read the contents of SF009 a year ago I would not have given it a second glance.

Following the Dark Jedi preservation releases of the Laser Discs, I now believe that this release is just as important.

It makes me realise that I should get off my butt and backup onto DVD my 1991, 1994, 1995, 1997 and 2001 Fullscreen and Widescreen PAL VHS tapes (30 in all) before they perish to nothing.

Idea: Preserving Episodes 1-3?
Time
If anyone is interested, I have thrown together a quick page of the "mechanical hand" shot at the end of Episode 2 comparing the Theatrical Film release to the Theatrical Digital/DVD release.

The film version is from a really shitty CAM on VCD that a pal found for me at the bottom of a drawer!!

Here it is!!

If the DVD screener ever shows up, I will add the better screenshots to the page.

russs15, yes I have all 3, the DVD versions are encoded at 224kbps because there's nothing worse than listening to low bitrate speech, I don't often download/listen to other ones because most of the time the people who encoded them are deaf idiots; "hey it's only speech so I can put it at 32kbps mono 22050hz, I doubt they'll notice it sounds like a herd of cats being dragged backwards through a ten foot deep hedge..."

That's great. I will need to brush up on my ripping audio from DVD skills once all 3 are available.

I can't wait to hear the other 2.

You have certainly come a long way since you first told us about your Lightsaber Montage DVD a short few months ago.

I was not that impressed with any of the UK TV stuff and did not think that anyone would want any of it. You proved me wrong and your Biography Channel releases do stand out and are sought after.

I have even had e-mails from people who are aware of my (very, very small) involvement in these, asking what the next release will be!

What are your future plans??

Finally, there is SF008. You had to go and spoil things didn't you!!!!!!!

I vote for any release with any stereo, mono, both commentaries and an isolated mix (Isomix or Editdroid?? Which one won in the end??).

If I had to choose, it would be option c.

That kind of re-creates the EditDroid ANH V1 but with a better version of the mono mix, the extra 3 sountracks and DVD quality video as well.

The menu's look fab too and use an approach that I have never seen used before.

However, more than anything, I am looking forward to seeing the final product after the hundred or so e-mails, more than one total change in direction, several video clips, dozens of comparison screenshots and quite a few snail mail packages.............

If the whole package is only half as good as I think it will be we are in for a stunning release.

So, when do we start on Empire???

I have done a little research and it looks like screeners for Episodes 1 and 2 on VCD/DVD were available as well as the crappy CAMS on VHS/VCD that were also around at the time.

I have also found this site which lists many changes in different versions of all the Star Wars films. I do not know how acurate this site is or if there are more changes not listed.

They list the following for Episodes 1 and 2........

2001 Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace DVD
Podrace grid sequence is extended
Air taxi sequence is reincorporated

2002 Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones DVD
New dialogue added to the scene where Anakin confesses to the Tusken slaughter.
Additional sparks and smoke have been added to Jango Fett's jetpack shortly before his death to better present its malfunction.
After falling out of the gunship on Geonosis, a clone trooper asks if Padmé is all right. Her response of "Yes" has been changed to a more realistic groggy "Uh-huh."
Anakin's mechanical hand now holds Padmé's hand during the closing wedding sequence (this was originally included in the DLP theater release of the film).

I did see a site years ago which had pictures of the changes to the mechanical hand scene, and others but I cannot find it at the moment.

Ep. II would be more difficult, especially with no home video release of the original.

There were plenty of VCD and DVD bootlegs out there at the time that EP II was released and there was the Full Screen VHS of the film too.

Both would be a good reference as to what the theatrical version was like but wether or not DVD quality material existed for it all remains to be seen.

Is the 1080i HiDef version of EP II (currently going up on a.b.sw) the theatrical or DVD version??

TPM has been released in its original theatrical cut on laserdisc in Japan and letterboxed VHS in the US. Though the film's not the greatest, I would be interested in a theatrical version preservation on DVD. I have both the laserdisc and tape, but lack the equipment and software to really make good DVD out of them.

There is the TB Release of TPM which is the theatrical release a DVB recording from European Canal + back in December 2001.

I posted a few screenshots and a video sequence on The "9000" Saga Edit thread.

It is pretty good, not perfect but probably better than any Laserdisc/Asian bootleg out there.

These were done by the same person who also recorded the SE at around the same time. Some rate this set as the best SE out there at the moment.

All of these are in PAL but I am sure that will not bother the editors out there............

~~~Segaflip's Newsgroup Posting List~~~
I've had a slight problem with the EditDroid ESB that I'm hoping somebody can help me with. My pars check out fine, and I can extract the ISO. But when I compare the file structure against the SFV that Darth Mallwalker posted, the VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP don't check out. I've deleted and re-built the ISO, and I still get the same problem.
The originally posted ESB DVD played the film straight away without showing the menu.
Instructions were given to use a program (IFOEDIT I think) to change the DVD start sequence by playing around with one of the IFO files, hence creating different versions of the DVD.
It sounds like the SFV file has been done using one of the versions and you have the other version.
Check back in the EditDroid thread to 3rd and 4th March to see what I mean..........
