Episode II: Attack of the Ridiculousness ***NEW 14 MONTH ANNIVERSARY DVD NOW AVAILABLE***
Time

Subtitle contest ideas, for better or worse:

"I don't wanna know what/who you're feeling, no matter how bad."

"Next you'll say there's teddy bears. In a Star Wars movie." (fits after the monkey line)

"This is worse than understanding Jar Jar."

"Can you hear me now?"

"What do you mean you're in Genesis?"

Meh. lol :P

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

In ESB, I've always thought the moment in the Bespin duel when Vader pushes Luke to the ground on the bridge looked rather awkward. I know it's impossible to do, but I think a close up behind Luke's back facing/slightly looking up at Vader would make that a lot clearer. The current angle is so far away that it's hard to tell what's going on, they just kind of stand still for a moment and Luke randomly falls. Plus the sudden lack of lightsaber sounds makes the silence a bit awkward as well.

All in my opinion, of course.

The Emperor's throne room in ROTJ has a large monitor to the right of the window (our right), though it looks to be switched off a lot of the time.

As for the meditation chamber view screen, i have removed all of the graphics and have just kept the outer detailing. It did look too busy so i'm going to keep those to use in ROTJ:R

Yay! Awesome. :)

I wonder what they'll be used in ROTJ for... maybe they could be put on the Emperor's window so he's not randomly looking out into space doing nothing?

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

Yesterday I went to see Titanic, and I got to the theater early enough to see those trivia videos/advertisements they play before the trailers. One trivia video was about the various people considered for the role of Han, and they actually played some short clips from Star Wars and Empire up on the big screen! Was awesome to see (I'm sure they were the SE's but I was too surprised to really notice).

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!

I think the kids that grew up with the PT will have an easier time dealing with it than those of us that were adults during The Great Disappointment of '99.

I was 7 when Jedi came out, so the Ewoks never really bothered me. At that age, you could have had Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy appear in the Lapti Nek scene and I would have accepted it. When I came out of the theater in 83, I probably would have told you it was the best of the three.

When I got older, I realized that it was actually the worst of the three and that those criticisms that my parents and other adults had about the film were totally correct. (I remember my mother groaning about how stupid "Leia is my sister" was.)

Even though I know the Ewoks were a calculated marketing scheme, they still don't bother me. I don't love them, I don't hate them. Perhaps they've even grown on me a bit more now that I see how much worse it can get. I'd rather watch an Ewok than a Gungan any day.

But I didn't grow up with the PT, I grew up with the OOT on old VHS tapes.

-----

Regarding the quality of the 3D, picture, and background, I thought that even in scenes where it wasn't obvious, the depth was still there for sure. Yes, I too lifted my glasses every now and then to see the difference, but upon lowering them again the 3D effect was quite clear. My eyes just needed a "refresh". The picture itself seemed very, very clear to me, certainly not like an upscaled DVD. And things in the background were not blurred at all (I even noticed things I'd never seen before, like a Gungan and droid wrestling over a blaster during the battle on the Naboo Plains). Maybe I just saw it in a really good theater. *shrugs*

I am NOT saying TPM is a theatrical masterpiece, none of the prequels are legendary. I'm just not going to say they're awful pieces of crap, either, because I appreciate them for what they are (films on their own, not films to be compared and dissected with the O(O)T). I won't deny I rolled my eyes a few times at Jar Jar's antics or Anakin's "yippee!!", but I also won't deny that it was fun being in the galaxy far, far away in a theater, story and characters aside.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

Saw it today. The only SW films I've seen on the big screen in the past were ESB ('97), AOTC, and ROTS, but seeing as how I was born in '92, ROTS is really the only one I could remember the big-screen experience of (I'm a life-long fan, I guess I just didn't know about the Special Editions except for my dad taking me to see ESB, and I was too scared of Darth Maul being cut in half to see TPM, lol).

ANYWAY, no matter the content of the movie itself, seeing "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." in a theater, along with all of the music and sounds I love so much in such amazing presentation, was AMAZING. Phantom Menace or not, it was still Star Wars. I know Adywan had commented that the sound mix was very poor, but for my presentation every lightsaber clash caused the speakers to vibrate, and hearing Duel of the Fates fill the entire auditorium made chills go down my spine.

I don't mind the prequels as much as most here (they aren't anywhere near the quality of the OOT, but on their own they aren't AWFUL, just compared to the originals they are). So seeing a movie I've known so well for so many years in such a grand format was extraordinary. Very, very exciting!

Revenge Of The Cut - Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith (* unfinished project *)

Why not? Palpatine is not a nice uncle. He is a Sith Lord for God's sake! With his final revelation, there is nothing more to hide.

In the original cut, he is a nice uncle at this point. But, a few hours later, he kills Jedi without any problems, gives order 66 and convert republic into galactic empire. This totally contradicts his character. Of course, you would say he was doing that to manipulate Anakin, so there is no contradiction in his character. The problem is, it makes Anakin dumb as wood. There is a Sith Lord standing before him, who has killed millions of people and he believe's that he is ok? How naive you have to be? This is exactly unbelievable like when Palpatine kills Windu and tells Anakin, that he does not have the power to save Padme. Of course Anakin does nothing and accept that, being a five year old naive child.

The reason Anakin believes him to be ok in the original is because of how slowly Palpatine reveals himself. If Palpatine acts cold and evil towards Anakin immediately, how in heck is he expecting Anakin to side with him (originally the point of the whole scene)? You're forsaking the Dark Side seduction aspect for the sake of Palpatine acting evil.

Another idea from me:

Palpatine reveals himself

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUFptjizGXE

As always, it's a rough idea. My goal was to make Anakin more mature, show his shock about revelation and cut as many unnecessery dialogue as possible. Also I though it was necessery to cut everything about Padme, because generally this considered to be lame. Anakin is turning to the dark side, because he wants more power. Not because he wants to save his wife. In this video, I only wanted Palpatine to reveal himself step by step. Without begging Anakin to join him. He just wants that Anakin will think about him. Anakin doesn't kill him, because he knows him for too long. He is just shocked and does his Jedi responsibility - letting counsel to decide. He realizes later that the anger he felt, when he looked at Palpatine with his lightsaber is what he wants and what gives him power. I think less is sometimes more.

There are two things in this scene, which always bothered me - music and too much unnecessary dialoge. Considering limited amount of footage, with my poor technical editing skills, I was doing my best.

Some may wonder why I post it in this thread. Well, first of all, I'm trying to give the Cutter some inspiration. Second, I'm hoping that a little traffic will bring him back here :).

Not bad, but Palpatine shouldn't act that evil towards Anakin.
