Star Wars DVD Music Mix Botched!!
Time
I've just called a friend, he has bought the DVDs, he'll come to my place later, I'll plug in my stereo on my dvd player and I'll TRY to have it in a 5.1 configuration (my stereo has 4 loudspeakers plus subwoofer), althought I have no idea how to do it, and I'll try to listen to it carefully so I can notice all the problems with the audio, I should be able to notice it...

If you need any more information or assistance on anything, I'd be glad to help you.

About the HAL 9000 signature, I'd approve the US of A becoming part of the UK empire again if all americans had to start talking with british accents. Wouldn't be amusing listening to GW Bush talking with a british accent?

Hopefully this is going to get a huge media attention, and a major crisis for Lucasfilm if the movies get re-called.

Well, I mean, if this happened because of audio tracks missing or lost, then there's nothing one could do... Remember when "its a mad mad mad mad world" was released with the lost trims? The audio and video quality suddenly "jumped" from perfect to horrible several times in the movie, same thing here.

BTW, does the 1997 version has the same audio problems? If not, would it kill them to use the 1997 version audio?

Sci-Fi Channel's 1997 Star Wars promos

The only ad I remember was the theatrical trailer, which feature a small TV showing up the battle of Yavin, and a narraton saying something like "a whole generation has only watched Star Wars like this", and then they showed Star Wars on full, widescreen, and told a little bit every movie. I remember that before ANH and ESB they had a little teaser trailer for the next movie.

For fun...What would be in your Star Wars DVD package?
Time
Prozac and a gun.

Jokes aside, that's my ideal SW box:

DISC 1 - A NEW HOPE, restored original version with matte lines and minor problems corrected, comentaries, music only track, dubbing in other languages, subtitles, closed caption
DISC 2- ESB, same as above
DISC 3 - ROTJ, same as above
DISC 4 - A NEW HOPE, 2004 SEs, movies PLUS every ad and trailer ever released for the movie
DISC 5 - ESB, 2004 SEs, same as above
DISC 6 - ROTJ 2004 SEs, same as above

DISC 7 - Special Features part 1 - All the features from the 2004 DVDs, plus more interviews from 1977 and today.
DISC 8 - Special Features part 2 - The influence on Star Wars: scenes of interviews in other TV shows, TV ads from other countries, spoofs, a documentary about the influence Star Wars has on today's culture and life. Fan films, featuring comentaries by George Lucas on what does he think about it. The short "George Lucas in Love".

DISC 9 - Super Audio CD with some songs from the three movies.
DISC 10- DVDROM - Star Wars and Games: demos (and some full games) of every single Star Wars game every released. A new version of Yoda's Stories.

PLUS: a small book about the making of this DVD set, some pictures, posters of all three movies, a mug.

Mace Windu's death would kind of lose its edge if it is immediately followed by Jar Jar saying "How wude!" I know that was an extreme example, but think about it. Remember all of Threepio's bad puns during the Geonosis battle? And Kit Fisto's dumb smile? If Lucas can avoid his stupid impluses long enough to make a dark film, then RotS should rock.

And also, we don't know that Padme dies. It would be unlikely because she has to live long enough for Leia to have memories of her.

I belive GL will avoid all those cheesy moments. I still have faith on him, I mean, there are a lot of people working with him, they wouldn't let him take such a bad decision as Jar Jar making fun of Mace Windu's death...

Oh and Jimbo, "Threads" makes "The Day After" look like "Muppets take Manhattam". There is only one movie more disturbing: "Traces of Death 1"

At the moment the cost of getting there from the UK is putting me off a little - is it cheap to eat, drink and get a decent hotel room - was thinking of visiting Sao Paulo or Rio.

Any help most appreciated

Depends on the game. If you want to see an international match, it's about R$80 (cheapest seat) to R$120, that's US$28.60 to US$42.90, maybe more depending on where the game is or where you're seated - last time I went to see a game, it was Brazil vs Bolivia, and I payed R$80 to the cheapest seat. If you want to see a regular soccer championship game, it depends on where you're going to be seated. A ticket in the upper seats is usually around 10 to 15 (3.6 to 5.4 dollars), but I really DONT recomend getting those seats, as they are usually used by hardcore, hooligan like fans. I'd recomend a lower, closer to the field seat, which would cost something around... I dont know, maybe R$50 or R$60, about 18 to 20 dollars. So, avoid at all costs seating in the so called "GERAL" seats. Do not buy the ticket on the streets, buy it on the authorized selling points. Usually the traveling agencies buy tickets to tourists and take them to the stadiums, but I don't know how much they charge.

Yes, things are quite cheap over here. In Rio, things a little bit more expensive as it's a touristic city. I'm not so sure what you could do over here in Sao Paulo, as it's NOT a touristic city at all, so I'd recomend coming to Brazil only if you are one of those travellers who enjoy getting lost, doing stuff all by themselves, and visiting weird, different places, and enjoy traveling around with nothing more than a backpack and a tourist guide in an adventurous kinda way. If you are the "tour bus guide"kinda tourist, you'll probably not enjoy it.

I'm a borderline basher/liker... the PT has some clever ideas and an amazing look but it just doesn't feel like Star Wars to me. That's my main concern with the prequels, it has never been about the effects.

1- Matte painting.

2- Yes, the plot.

But I was thinking about it, and I've come to a sad conclusion: no matter what GL did, we would have the PTs, because they are not the movies we enjoyed, they are "something else". I mean, think about it, what would you do if you were asked to film the PTs? Would you do something better? I belive 90% of us here wouldn't...
